Actually the x finial does unscrew but only for vintage safaris. I own an umbra safari which I purchased 40 years ago. It's not savannah green or terracotta, unfortunately. The finial fastening changed in later generations but mine unscrews via the X allowing one to separate the X screw (with plastic threads), a retaining ring, and the clip (which is a closed loop). Below is a brass disk which accepts the X screw. My problem was that I wanted to remove the inner cap which is below the brass disk and is damaged. Still unable to do so. Finally, pushing down the brass disk, both disk and totally disintegrated inner cap came out. Did the same with an old, dried up Safari rollerball with a good inner cap and replaced the fountain pen's. Fixed. Thx for video - it motivated me.
I wish I watched this first, I just busted two liners in the cap swapping clips, and now neither snap down anymore and I need to friction seal the cap against the barrel, probably leading to a damaged barrel down the line. I think I used a pusher a bit too thin, so I had to 'aim' for the finial, and ended up missing more often than not. I wish we could buy replacement inner caps, but alas. Luckilly it was just a couple safari caps, worst case scenario here is that I have spare parts :p
Thank you very much. Worked like a charm. Allowed me to thoroughly clean out my Lamy Vista. Used a cross pen ballpoint refill to pop out the finial.
Excellent!
Thank you very much... I just fixed my Lamy Fountain Pen using this technique. I used a steel Cross Pen 👍
Appreciate your effort. And time. 🙏🙏🙏
I did same. Cross pen refill worked very well to pop out the finial.
You’re a lifesaver! The clip on mine (first fountain pen ever) got wrenched in less than a month. It’s been bugging me so much!

Amazing to hear!
Great video, I have sentimental lamy pen(don't we all) and didn't want to replace the cap with a new one.
Thank you for this! The clip on my Safari has lifted loose, and this let me tighten it.
Man you saved my day . Thank you so much!!!
Thanks so much! Saved my pen❤
Glad it helped!
Thank you! 😃
You're welcome!
Leaving my Lamy AL-Star unattended at a party resulted in a loose clip. Maybe now I'll try to repair it, thanks!

Hahahaha
The X cap does not screw
Naughty germans
thank you so much
Welcome 😊
what is the diameter of the small part of the rubber piece (ie what is the perfect diameter for a pusher)?
all that is left for me to do is to find a clip and finial color that fits with the purple safari
Used a chopstick
That's just German engineering
