I finally see this 6 1/2 years after release and it’s as relevant now as ever. I just saw another video elsewhere that didn’t show the extra strip in the feed. Maybe Lamy changed the feeds since then. I bought my Al-Star just a few months ago and haven’t had to disassemble it yet but this beautifully clear demonstration is timeless. Thanks, Stef! Fascinating, thank you. I have a ludicrous amount of Lamy pens in my stash, of which 17 are Al-Stars. I've never seen a complete teardown before. I never knew about that little black slide-in portion of the feed. I thought it was all just one moulded unit. The few times I've removed the feed I never noticed. What strikes me the most about this is the way there's quite a bit of design that went into the pen, and the fact you can even do a full teardown of the barrel is a particularly nice touch. Don't know why but I like engineering that is intricate yet sturdy and serviceable. Thanks to you here, I now have a whole new appreciation for my Lamy pens as companions to my equally ludicrous number of vintage Parkers!
@@grandmiapens Yes, I love vintage too, almost always Parker low to midrange. My most exotic are a few Duofold AF. The majority are 17, 17 super, Lady, 21, 25, 45 and 51. There are several Duofold Junior, Slimfold and Victory, and a smattering of others. I love them all and it continues to amaze me how long they've lasted & how well they still write.

Followed Denysost's tip below to remove it for cleaning and unfortunately, I irreparably damaged my feed cap by crushing an almost invisible sleeve meant to fit snugly into the ink cartridge or converter to prevent leakage. Oh well, I'll never make that mistake again. Already use syringes to fill disposable cartridges, but great tip for those that don't. I'm subscribing today and look forward to more of your videos. i was sitting for a month with my Lamy skipping and in need of a cleaning up, and could not figure out who to separate the tiny piece in the feed. Your excellent video allowed me to figure that out in 5 min. Goood job!
This is very, very helpful -- but I wish I had seen it BEFORE trying to replace my nib... and inadvertently pulling the feed partway out. I seem to have twisted it, and now am unable to pull it out (or push it back in, for that matter). Any suggestions? Again, thank you so very much for posting this extremely detailed video. Very much appreciated!
TIP: I've struggled removing INK feed from section after I've used very dry outdated ink, it pretty much glued all together, so I have pushed the feed out by applying pressure from the barrel side (from the back of the finger grip, where you'd insert ink cartridge, if that makes sense), using a blunt, non-sharp object gently push it out and feed should come out.
Don't laugh. Well, ok, laugh if you must. I have a number of other fountain pens but just bought my first Lamy LX, which is spot-on identical aside from some cosmetic coatings and the like. You video was a tremendous help. Easy-peezy, Japaneezy! Cheers, mate!
I don't know how you are able to remove the feed so easily. I can't. I have broken two feeds trying to remove them for cleaning from a lamy safari. I don't know if I am done with lamy or not.
Hello, Mr. grandmia pens. I'd like to know if Acer concept 9 Pro EMR pen will be more convenient to use, is it the king of EMR pen. The newly released Acer concept 9 Pro has the unique dual key + tail eraser function of wacom pen Pro 2. Most EMR pens are single key pens. The dual button pen has only the old Fujitsu pen (the old EMR pen has a pressure sensing level of 1024, and the cursor offset is too large), and the Dell canvas pen No. 27 lacks a tail eraser. I wanted to buy one for wacom EMR devices like zbookx2 and dellcanvas27, which was perfect, but I searched the entire Internet and found that there was no independent sale.

Hi Stef!! I loved this video. I'm trying to put a Lamy Joy Fountain Pen back to work, I hadn't used it in years. It had dried ink all over it. So I got as far as your tutorial would go because I'm having a bit of trouble assembling it now. How could I put the "feed" back into place?
Nice video but my al star fine nib writes quite dry and inconsistent. When i write really really slow it writes great but being a student i have to write fast so is there anything i can do?
Grandmia Pens thank you but unfortunately i cant find brass shims and the one ive seen that fits all the criteria is like ten times the cost of an al star. Ive heard that feeler guages work well and i can get them but im not sure if it is so how do feeler guages look like that i can use?
I bough an Bluegreen one. I have to be honest: removing the nib from inside the cylinder is quite difficult. I was never able to do it: can only move the silver piece from the nib....
My clip seems to have gotten loose, do you have any idea how i could fix this? also, the cap no longer "clicks" into place, any advice would be helpful if you know how to

I tried to remove the nib of my Lamy Safari and it's easy. But it's impossible to remove the inner black body

If it is the black inner lineing then that does not effect the workings of the pen. So just leave it.
