Comparisons need to be between same sized monitors, or else it would be unfair, as the larger monitor has physically more low end extension, has an easier job pumping out air pressure. :)
people are saying you shouldn't compare krk 5 with hs7, but in my opinion you've done a great job comparing them bcz they're nearly at the same price range.
one other difference is that the bass whole on KRK is in front of the speaker. In my studio, when I use the KRK, I hear bass with more precision than HS7. It's more difficult to place good the HS7 to have perfect bass sound in the room. But for the rest, the HS7 is more honnest and flat. And on HS7 you dont have this standby lol .....
Great video! I just bought the yamahas because I primarily make hip hop as well. I’ve always wanted to the yamas so I’m def glad I got them. But that’s dope you have both. Kinda cool you could like switch out your speakers during mixing to see how they compare for a final master.
Ayye, Yamaha gang 🤘🏾. It is pretty cool to be able to hear the difference between the two. I heard a lot of things about the Krks and Yamahas , so I was glad I was able to play them side by side and really hear it for myself . Glad you like the video too ! Much love
HS7 and if the lows are not present enough add a sub, you can add lows but it is very hard to remove them. The KRKs highs have a buzzyness I don't like in the 20khz and like you said the mids are a little muddy, the KRKs are crazy good for casual listening though!!! The Yamaha HS7 are much better for mixing and production.
Funny people are commenting about the comparison, and the size differences, monitors directly on the desk, but the reality is this has some of the best sounding dialogue that I’ve heard on a RUclips video, probably due to those panels behind you and if I look in the studios of a lot of my favorite artists that have the best sounding mixes that I’ve heard the monitors are directly on the desk soo 🤷♀️ probably because they’re using them for production and not for mixing so much. And if I got either of these monitors in this video would be more for production use not mixing.
KRK helps you to fight for charactor and more mid/treble frequencies which is a good thing for me because mix will translate better on smaller speaker that are less bass heavy like laptops and mobile phone speakers they also have less frequency adgusment buttons so less messing around for beginners. Yamaha are naturally clear they can help to identify unwanted high end frequencies that might stand out in earphones. they also make you want to add more bass to your mix and they have a better stereo feel.
I cant adjust the stereo with my HS7, it's very difficult, the sound is more MONO. When I use my RP5 G3, the sound is very more in stereo and i directly hear if my track is too much mono or not, and I have better stereo result when i hear in my car ...... But yeah, if there is too much 2kHz for example, sometimes i will not hear it on RP5, and I hear it on HS7. It's very different ....... wich one you prefer ?
I have a set of KRK 5 rokits. they are older. (Also have the KRK 10s sub)They are just like the new 5 classics. With the sub Low end isnt a issue and the mids and highs are far cleaner with the sub. I really like this set up. But I know them well. That is where some people get lost I think. Knowing your setup helps a great deal with the end product.
history of krk : KRK RP5 ..... KRK RP5 G2 ..... KRK RP5 G3 ...... KRK RP5 Classic (=G3) ..... KRK RP5 G4 .... KRK RP5 G5. (i have the RP5 G3 in my studio)
The KRK roket 5's with the KRK 10 sub is a crazy good set up. But you need a bigger room. I have mine in a smaller room right now and the sub can get to be to much. the external switch for the sub comes in handy for A-Bing the mix in a small room.
Hey Isage, I'm looking for someone who understands acoustics to ask for information so I can clear up a doubt. I bought new hs7 speakers, I hear a rattling coming from the back of the speakers when playing the low frequencies and in particular the Subs, I wanted to understand if this is normal or if the speaker has problems . The room is treated well acoustically, and I hear the rattling is inside the speaker so if there should be a problem I think it is from the speaker itself. Thanks in advance🙌🏻
Hey But how does your Mixes sound on each set?...do they sound better after mixing on the HS7 or the KRK Rokit 5?. How I'm hearing it through my Studio monitors the Hs7 makes the beat sound like its already mix but the KRK sounds more natural like the beat needs mixed.
@@isagebeats ok thanks for the reply. One last question... So if you played the same beat in your Car and each beat was mix with the two different monitors, do you still hear the muddy sound in the mix? does the hs7 still sound clearer once you take both mixes in the car or headphones.
@@henreyberry5 no problem . So basically any studio monitor that you decide to use will work, you just have to know how to use it . The KRKs have a colored (inaccurate) low end versus the Yamaha‘s which have a more clear and flat sound. In my opinion the yamahas makes it easier for you to make more accurate decision when EQing and leveling, especially In the mid range frequency.
I have RP5 G3 and HS7 sinds 5 years. Always ....... Always in my car or when a friends listen at home, the mix with RP5 sounds better. I can more work on the mids with yamaha, but work on the bassline, the stereo and the trebles after 8kHz it's very better with my RP5 G3. Also, i have less hear fatigue when I work with RP5. With the yamaha, after 30min i must do a break.
Nice Video! Have you experienced the back- and frontfiring of the bass different? I mean, did you have to change the way you listen to and mix the bass since you have the yamahas?
More or lees the same... i mean you don't need to upgrade from the rokit to the yamaha. If you really want a differnce invest more money and go for genelecs for example. I have go for the KRK g4 8 for producing and djing and they amazing ...
Always cringe seeing krk fanboys comparing krks to the yamahas. Like for anyone serious & considerate enough about mixing then the yamahas're the real deal, it's not rocket science you know 😭
Yea if you make drill and trap yamaha hs8 or 7 is for you. If you make hip-hop boombap then get the krks different strokes for different folks who do different music.
Hi! I bought a pair of yamaha and unboxed them today. However, after unboxing them, I noticed that the studio monitor had a color fade in the corners. My question to friends who have purchased this product is if this is possible with a brand new product? Did you guys notice something like this after unboxing? The discoloration is minor and grayish. However, it is minimal in both the top and bottom corners. Is it possible that the product is not brand new?
Unfortunately these are the 2 studio monitors I own. The Yamaha Hs5 would be the better comparison, however my option on the quality and accurate sound representation still stands. Yamaha has a better speakers. I hope that helps clear up any confusion.
It's still a fair comparison. Both of them are somehow in the same range. Edit: Most of the time, the HS5 is compared to 3" monitors, but I tell you... if that's the case, then it's a clear winner in that scale. The Genelecs are an exception because no matter what size you pick, they are always sounding big (but that's another story). I have an HS5 for about 3 years now. I worked with Krk rokit 5 g3 a lot of times too (in a different studio). I'd say that when I played Zedd's "Clarity", that bass drop is legit accurate; something I don't get with the HS5 which rolls off starting at 73Hz. My HS5 is in a fairly treated room and it already sounds quite lifeless. Only that remained are the mids especially 800Hz-1.2kHz which is quite harsh. Best remedy though is that you measure your ideal distance from the wall so they're equally distant and are sitting properly in the middle closer to you (near-field literally). Then set them at least a feet or 2 from the wall. By the way, a smaller room is also preferred. That way, you can listen more in a quieter way, making it much more workable in longer periods of time when mixing/producing. It's almost close to listening to a headphone clarity but with the exception of the bass again but tolerable. At least, you're able to reduce the room reflections. I admit it's a love-hate relationship with the HS5. The KRKs are good because you don't need a subwoofer. I don't complain like what others do, typecasting it to EDM alone. It's pretty much a versatile speaker in my humble opinion. Above all, it's more of a preference like choosing a car really. You can't go wrong with either of these 3 (Krk 5's, HS5 or 7). But if you already wanna avoid giving yourself headache and guess work especially for a first pair of speakers, remove the HS5 in the equation and choose between the HS7 and KRK 5 especially if you want to check the whole mix. Or... continue get the HS5 and pair it with a subwoofer. Or... get the HS5 as a 2nd set of pair IF you already have a another pair of monitors as your mains. Or... get the HS5, get yourself an Auratone too and check your mixes on them, then in your car, phone and laptop, etc.
@@seanvgmusic3630 awesome dude. I have crossed off the hs5. Now I will find out how loud the HS7’s need to be as I often like to produce at low levels. Krk5 g4 has made a great value proposition delivering a wide freq range for much less money than compared to hs7
