    When I started in studios in the mid 90s the nearfields in ever studio was either the Yamaha NS10a or NS10M or a pair of KRK rockits 8s and then the studio would have large "mains" mostly Bowers and Wilkins or some other high end brand.

    Finally comparison review on these two. I have had the KRK 8s for years for cross referencing w/ my main mixing monitors the Focal Shapes, but have been thinking about swapping KRKs w Hs8s.

    I've been using the KRK Rokit 5 G3 for a few years and I found them too present on the low frequencies. For some it may be a plus but for those who play the guitar with digital plugins and have to listen to it through the monitors, it's not a great thing. They say that the G4s have less emphasized bass, but the Yamaha HS7s seem more present in the mid frequencies and flatter. In my opinion, for those who play the guitar, I believe that Yamahas are the most suitable choice. The KRKs perhaps perform better for general listening. I would like to know your opinion on this. Cheers from Italy!

    • @Gibsunday
      @Gibsunday  11 месяцев назад +1

      I can see that. The Rokit 7s have an EQ that allows you to add or remove any frequencies you like/dislike. So while the HS7’s might be flatter, you get what you get.
      Having the ability to change the R7’s EQ means that I can mix for different scenarios and I agree, they’re more enjoyable for listening.
      Still, you can’t go wrong with either and this is a preferential move.

    • @FaberGT86
      @FaberGT86 11 месяцев назад

      @@Gibsunday thanks for the quick reply, I didn't know your channel and from what I see you are also a guitarist. So, if I understand correctly, you are now using the Rokit 7s and no longer the HS7. However, I was thinking of making the opposite choice 😅. From what I've heard, the HS7s could work better as flat response speakers when used directly with digital plugins or modelers than the KRK Rokits. Then obviously, it depends on your needs. The Rokit G3s (the ones I have) perhaps have an even more prominent bass response than the G4s. Maybe switching to G4s and having the possibility to parameterize all the frequencies would be fine too. Hard choice! 😅

    There's a school of thought that monitor speakers aren't supposed to sound good like a hifi speaker but rather to sound neutral, like if it sounded good on this speaker it will be great on others.

    • @Gibsunday
      @Gibsunday  2 года назад +4

      Yea, I’ve heard that! I have a friend who’s a producer that loves trash speakers. He knows if it sounds good there, it’ll sound good anywhere. That said, I’m mixing guitar parts for RUclips and at this stage, these are perfect for just that.

    It's all a matter of taste and perspective but I think the KRKs have a bass spike I don't like. Adding bass is easy, add a sub if the monitors lack some, removing bass from a monitor is just not really possible ... The most important factor is "do the monitors sound good for your use? " For metal, rock and stoner ... the KRKs (I also own both) make my life more complicated because I always have to keep in mind that there is a bass spike that will bias the mixes towards highs overcompensation and under eqing bass. This is why I mix and master on the HS7 and validate on the KRKs.

    You missed a big flaw of the rokit7’s. The hiss, once you hear you cannot unhear it, its so bad and for mixing and mastering purposes a big nono for me and lots of other hiss detectors out there. Sad because i also love the looks like you do. Now before y’all start commenting, i’m talking hiss without the xlr cables connected even.. adjusting the volume or high end doesnt matter.. its a big production flaw of the g4’s 7’s

    On the Yamaha Hs7 you have 2 input sources just wanted to point that out >.> and I love the rokits brand but man adding that screen was a bad idea because it’s just another part within another part to replace when it stops working :/ but overall they are both good studios monitors.

    • @Gibsunday
      @Gibsunday  2 года назад +1

      Yea, I forgot to mention 2 inputs. I think I’ve had them so long that I became too familiar with the features, if that makes sense.
      For the screen, it certainly creates an opportunity for failure, but that’s a great durability test in and of itself.

    Mixing vocals on krks is way harder than on a HS.
    Evrey single time HS is clearer than krk. More clarity.
    If you mix on the HS it will sound good on the krks aswell
    Other way around you will hear you f”Ed up.
