What is new in Rokit 5Gen?
THREE NEW VOICING MODES
With new Mix, Focus, and Create Voicing Modes that are optimized for different monitoring applications, the ROKIT Generation Five Studio Monitors provide 3-in-1 monitoring flexibility
UPDATED TWEETER
The KRK ROKIT Generation Five features a woven Kevlar® aramid fiber cone woofer for superior damping and modal breakup control, while a new 1” tweeter benefits from a highly damped silk dome diaphragm that smoothly extends the high frequency range up to 40 kHz
FACEPLATES, MOINTING POINTS, FOAM ETC.
To my surprise, generation five features integrated mounting points on the bottom for use with KRK mounting brackets, perfect for immersive audio studio installations. What is also new, you’re getting two magnetic faceplates for protective grille or no-grille flexibility. Basically grilled versions have no noticeable impact on sound, so use it, especially if you have a cat or a small child in your studio. The box also includes acoustic foam wedge to minimize resonance and support angle setup. This is especially useful for the smallest speakers when you put them on your desk, so that tweeters can aim at your ears.
My recommendation
My recommendation - choose 8. They will work well as full-band near-field or even mid-field listening. Their clear, dynamic sound and appropriate bass presentation are perfect for the production of any electronic music. If we were only assessing the bass, they are very close to my powerful, 3 times more expensive APS Aeon monitors. Unless your room is really small, i.e. less than 12 square meters, then choose Rokit 7. The 7s are only slightly inferior to the 8s when it comes to bass depth, so you probably won't use the enormous power offered by the largest model. Despite having a similar sound signature, the 8s are simply slightly better monitors, offering greater precision in the bass and generally being slightly better balanced. However, if your budget is limited or you are just starting your adventure with creating music, choose 5. These are the best-sounding monitors with a 5-inch diaphragm that I have tested. You will be happy. They offer a balanced sound, solid punch, low-end impact and adequate dynamics and power for more serious tasks. You won't be able to perform professional mastering on them, but you can do professional mixing. They also have a great price-performance ratio. Contrary to appearances, it may make more sense to start with a synthesizer and smaller monitors rather than larger, twice-expensive monitors.
I got the Krk g5 8 no hissing sound at all no eq setting adjustments just left mines on flatline love em
awesome review! very in depth and offering history of this line of speakers. Perfect video for newbies and someone buying their first speakers
Great review! I just got. a pair of 5's G4 for only 200! Super excited, I had a G3 in the past and I know I love their speakers for near field, I think they are some of the best when you consider their cost.
exactly:) Congrats on your new speakers!
The screens across the front should protect the drivers from any carelessly discarded panties that may inadvertently disrupt the audio from reaching the listener.
keep going... you so crisp clear and clean like KrK
Thanks for the explanation! and the video! I'm in doubt between G4 and G5, and you was answer my mind questions! Thanks!
Perfect review, I didn’t know these existed until tonight. Was looking for a good review and I definitely found it! Edit… I just want to add that I read when speaker manufacturers make a speaker it’s usually the 8” model that is designed first and other sizes are subsequent designs. Edit just bought my pair of Rokit 8” gen5 based on this review, thanks! On route.
Thanks for this review. Are you going to make a sound test in a future video ?
Thanks!
You know if the v.5 3-WAY with 10" woofer is coming later? I'd love to know that.
Thanks for the review.
What about the atrocious hiss of the G4’s, is it still the case with these G5’s? The hiss sound of the G4 Rokit 7’s made me return them instantly after noticing the hiss, it was way to present as if constant white noise was playing too loud due to the cheap class d-amps used.. major and well known issue of the G4’s
I have R5G4 + S8.4 (fronts on foam, sub on pucks). Very satisfied, not going to buy new ones. Thanks for comparison.
Why did KRK do away with the kevlar dome tweeter and go back to the silk dome design?
Would you recommend the Generation 5 or Yamaha HS?
Nice review Polo. I got the rp7 gen 3 and i attenuated the highs by -2b and they are perfect in my room so i feel what you say about the 7 inch. Fun fact is a lot of my sound engineer friends are bashing krk but i actually sold my neumann kh120 after i got the krk as in my room they are better.
Thanks for sharing your experience! 25 setting EQ on KRK is definately a good thing to have. I used to experiment a bit with my APS Aeon, boosting or cutting highs by 0,5 dB or 1,5 dB. I guess every monitor, though almost flat in responce, have a little bit of a character:))) I think KRK did a good job with a new series, the sound/character hasn't changed much
@@PoloTremolo very nice to know, and yes APS is very good the neon might be superb, i have a pair of aps 2020 too very underrated brand
I've demoed a lot of speakers in my room and the only ones I've REALLY enjoyed are the KRK. I'm thinking the front ported bass ports make a huge difference in my room, but as far as my ears tell me, the KRK are my favorites! Was very surprised by their excellent quality sound considering they are not known in forums to have the highest reputation of all brands.
@@ryanguy6789 im exactly right there with you and i have/had more expensive kits but my room accoustics is not the best, i think krk might be really suited for less than ideally accoustily treated room more than others.
what mode is best for listening ?
I used to own the Rokit 7 G4s and they had self hiss/noise. It wasnt just my unit as others have also reported the same. Is this self hiss/noise still present on the G5s? I moved to using Adams instead that had zero noise.
I've had my 7 G4's for a few years and never had any problems so I wouldn't ask if it's still present as it wasn't with the entire series
Its the same class-d amp which causes this audible hiss when nothing is played. Its more of a cost cutting measure than anything else. I still use the G4 despite that glarijg issue.
got some G4 7s the best bang for your buck (KRK Rokit not necessarily the G4 7) that there is bright but not obnoxious tons of bass though i use a sub too, an amazing set, im interested in the Rokit 10/3 maybe
I Gave away my Rokit 6's Switched to Yamaha but might get Rokit 8's
Only thing I wish they kept from the old model is the blue screen 😩
Do you think rokit 8 would be too powerful if we cannot set them up at the further distance? I would have to set the rokit 8 up closer, like how you had the 5's on the desk. I have a much older generation rocket 5 and they are plenty powerful for my space.... But my goal is to get the best sound possible. I don't need them any louder just looking for sound improvements. I have always had difficulty mixing low end....perhaps it's my technique. However I feel like the rokit 5 (gen 1) speaker just isn't representing what's taking place in the mix properly.
I've got gen 3 rokit 5s and I can hilghy recommend a matching 10 inch sub and isolating speaker stands for all 3.
@@mattycharles1 Thats a solid idea...maybe i will just go for adding the sub. Thanks
@KC-lg8qf it makes a world of difference. Ild start by getting the tops sounding nice and sweet and bring up the volume of the sub just to meet and support them. Out of the things I've bought in my life my subwoofer has given me the most happiness
@@mattycharles1 awesome! I will give it a try.
no 10's ? :(
