Watching this today for the first time and today JJN is an even more prominent figure on the blues scene. What has been consistent through the years, apart from his chops, is how he seems to be such a nice guy.
One thing that I like about the Lucille model is that because it doesn't have F holes, it comes with a back cover plate behind the volume & tone knobs and the switch, which makes repairs and modifications super easy, unlike other 335 type instruments where you are forced to fish everything through the F holes, which is way much more of a pain...
Too many snarky comments here. This guitar sounds great and the dude playing it did a great job of showing off the tonal range while playing soulful, tasteful licks. If it's not for you, move on. Gibson did nothing wrong here. (though I do agree that the editing did get out of synch a few times)
Phil Hurley some guys just aren’t happy unless they’re trolling Gibson. They can’t afford a real Gibson so they constantly beat them up online . Meanwhile they’ll buy from a cheap competitor who’s basically copying Gibson ie LTD and a like. That’s fine if you don’t have the scratch for a real Gibson but don’t bitch about it play your imitation and move on .
Phil Hurley, Jim Morris, and bud grzo; all three of you nailed it. Additionally, a lot of those trolls are mediocre guitar players, at best, who play with so much distortion and effects through crap amps that they can't tell a good sounding guitar from a cheap one, anyway.
Carl Johnson idk man, I’ve owned a few Gibsons, I have been enjoying the 2018 SG Special, but all the snarky comments don’t come out of the dark. They have been lacking in quality control, and have been way overpriced on their semi-quality models. Then, they come out with this (which I dig the guy and this axe) and botch the b-roll. I’m a video guy by trade. Gibson can afford an editor who at least can do that. Also, lots of boutique builders who can make me something as good if not better for the same price as a factory Gibson 335. In fact, I ordered one for Xmas. Trolls will be trolls, though.
I have a 90’s Gibson Lucille, I removed the fine tuning tailpiece and fitted a Bigsby! Sounds amazing! My Desert island guitar, does everything! I was always surprised Mr BB King chose a fine tune tailpiece. He was the master of tone, taste and feel!
Nathanael Fredericko Erm, really? Does no one care about fairness and accuracy anymore? The guitar is easily less than 1/4 of that price and I’m sure they’ll sell out the whole of the limited run at that price.
Chibson, lol. Those guitars are total shit. If that’s what you can afford, cool but don’t try to compare Chibson to the Gibson Custom Shop. That is totally laughable.
David Baker Agreed. Let’s be honest about this... Chibson guitars are for people who care much more about the way a guitar looks (usually from a distance) and its (fake) image than they do about how a guitar sounds and plays. 🤷🏼♂️ If you want or need a reasonable quality cost effective guitar there are a multitude of much better options out there, but ultimately some people just want to make other people think they’ve bought a Gibson.
Becuase they're too broke to afford a Gibson. What gets me is the dip shits who claim epiphone is better. I own several of both epis and gibsons and hands down - Gibson wins every time.
Am lucky enough to own a Lucille (the traditional, black one), which I bought in mint condition (ie, probably played once or twice max) for $2200, so a fantastic deal. I must confess I bought it more for its beauty and musical significance (and my own twisted aspiration of somehow sounding like B.B. King if I had the same guitar) than because I really “needed” one. Plus, it was just such a good deal. Funny thing is, I was disappointed at first. Found it hard to play, slow fretboard, hard to get the sound I wanted (I am used to strats, and humbuckers definitely require a bit of adjustment, not to mention the looooong sustain). Then I really set it up to my liking, learned (to an extent) to play it as I wanted; and I must say that now I would now never, ever part with it. It is, very simply put, an extraordinary sounding instrument. Unreal. In a league of its own. I now have two strats, a PRS McCarty (another stunning, fabulous-sounding guitar, but that’s another story...) and the Lucille - and I can honestly say I love the Gibson to death. Buy one if you get a good deal (obviously the $7000 Gibson recommended price is a rip-off...), you will NEVER regret it! Am in love with it now. Cheers all.
Well, it’s obvious that Gibson’s total lack of quality control extends to their hack video editing. This is a perfect metaphor as to why Gibson is failing.
Lovett beautiful guitar I like the three colors Alpine White cherry red and ebony great guitar i.m glad you came back with the Lucille Epiphone so cool.🎸🎶🎶
The street price is 5,5K for this one. Actually, is is a revamped version of the black Lucille in Alpine White, with a few stamps and engravings. The choice of JJ Nichols to swallow the pill is to attract younger generations (with $$). It would have probably been better to promote a brand new JJ Nichols signature model, rather than another BB King variation. Personnally, I am a bit tired of the signature models of dead heroes (BB KING, Jimi Hendrix, Rory Gallagher etc.) There are enough living ones without digging in their graves. And yes: the fine tuners are to get the right pitch in complement to the headstock tuners. The intonation is made by the screws on the Tune-o-matic bridge.
Yes, I was wondering what that BS was about getting the right intonation from those thumb screws? Didn't make any sense. It sounded to me like he was trying to convince himself about how great this guitar is. The set up and finish had better be perfect for the $ - that seems to be highly unlikely these days. Sorry to be negative but it is what is.
Diego I’m afraid not. Intonation is affected only by the active length of the string and it doesn’t matter about the length of string behind the bridge saddles, so in this case the fine tuning moving the anchor point behind the bridge rather than at the bridge won’t affect intonation at all I’m afraid.
TP-6 is for fine tuning, has nothing to do with intonation. It does what it's designed to do extremely well. I have one on my Les Paul and will never go back to the stop tailpiece.
I find it telling that every negative comment had nothing to do with the tone of the guitar. Just confirms my belief that all Gibson haters are deaf. lol
This is a tribute to a super great blue's Legend ( B. B. KING ) and his legendary guitar Lucille. R. I. P. KING OF BLUES. I know Lucille was a all black Gibson guitar. But i think B. B. KING would definitely approve of this and so would Lucille.
Idk about the stereo outputs.. most common mod is to make those mono. SUPER glad y’all kept the varitone. Most who complains they can’t get a Gibson semihollow to sound like BB have bypassed the varitone
What amp did they used in this demo? All sound very cool regardless of lapses and video editing. JJ is a fine guitarist and doesn't have to sound like BB to introduce this guitar. White is beautiful too... Chuck Berry used to play a vintage red or burgundy Lucille so so much for Lucille's being Black only.
Everyone is so critical of the price of this guitar and saying how bad the editing is, when who give a shit, just appreciate how incredible the tone actually is, and the quality and all the features, it sounds incredible, looks incredible and everyone has gone so against Gibson that you don’t even look for what matters in a guitar anymore , your so focussed on criticising tiny details that aren’t even related to the guitar itself
Hire a video editor that knows how to sync audio and video.
And maybe hire/find someone that can clean a guitar. That headstock... Yeshh...
Guy sucks, presentation sucks, editing sucks, its like sad the guitar is nice but seen better.
Lol. Maybe after they sell enough Lucille ES, they'll be able to afford a video editor
That would add another $1,500 to the guitar price.
@@Dartheomus Lol
Wtf that video editing?
Edited in the style of a badly dubbed Hong Kong action movie!
Simon Bray they are going for that Chibson Qualitycommercial to sale more 😂
Seriously. Who put this together?
Gibson doesn't realise it's customers are guitar players. It's a 'lifestyle' brand.
Who the fuck cares? We're not screen testing for Cannes, we just want to see and hear the guitar. Eye 👁 roll 🍥.
Isn't this basically the guitar from Eric Clapton's new Christmas video.
That was my first thought when i saw it
I'm dreaming of this white guitar..❤
I thought that Lucille was black...
I thought Lucille was an all black guitar with gold hardware
Your right it was . this isn't it white really ? . plus with bb king gone it's not stamped with his approval no thank you .
There were many Lucilles.
@@StairwayToEvan92 Show me BB playing a white Gibson ES. This is just another way for Gibson to raise the price of a guitar.
His original lucille was a dark walnut wood color hollow body F holes, later he had gibson make him a black solid body ES355 that we all know and love
Good Lord! That's a good start!
I love the tone capacitor switch! Every guitar should have one of those.
Yup!
1:25 Video and audio time lapse glitch
I noticed that, too.
more like incorrect audio. someone straight up played something different and tried to incorporate it into the demo.
C B the editing as a whole, whoever Gibson paid for this I would have taken less money for a better job and I’ve never edited a video in my life
Amazing. Sounds so much different than what your fingers are doing....cool features 😜
Watching this today for the first time and today JJN is an even more prominent figure on the blues scene. What has been consistent through the years, apart from his chops, is how he seems to be such a nice guy.
Beautiful guitar. I was fortunate to see BB King live back when riding with the King was big.
Jared is a monster player. So articulate with great feel. Can play anything

Are you seriously telling people they're not allowed to comment if they don't like the guitar?
Varitone in all its glory. Sounds great
I have a 90’s Gibson Lucille, I removed the fine tuning tailpiece and fitted a Bigsby! Sounds amazing! My Desert island guitar, does everything! I was always surprised Mr BB King chose a fine tune tailpiece. He was the master of tone, taste and feel!
@Daniel Hernandez Jr I had the exact one as well. Added the Bigsby, it worked it perfectly.
JJN is awesome. Thanks for using him to demo this guitar!
You get the intonation just right w/the tune-o-matic bridge; the TP6 tailpiece has nothing to do with intonation, just fine tuning.
me : how much for this?
gibson : $25000
me : oh no, thank you. i already have a chibson
Nathanael Fredericko Erm, really? Does no one care about fairness and accuracy anymore? The guitar is easily less than 1/4 of that price and I’m sure they’ll sell out the whole of the limited run at that price.

Some people really do love to hate Gibson...

slash2jimi Guess your one of the lucky ones. I have not had such luck with my Gibsons. Finally bought a SRV Strat and never looked back.
I don't hate Gibson, I own three, two LPs and a Byrdland. My problem is their pricing.
Can you blame them?
Yeah. You shouldnt hating on something you cant afford

I never saw BB King with a white signature?!? Is it another pricey joke?
Will you release another fanciful signature on behalf of a dead man?
I agree, I bet B.B. wouldn't like it.
@@fernandes5986 😉👍
I wouldn’t mind if it was just the same guitar with colour options. Personally, BB used to use a 72’ Walnut 355 as Lucille, and I’d love that colour.
They released white ones in the past even green, blue and red when he was still alive so he probably approved of them at one point
I don't care if it's mustard yellow, did you bother listening to how otherworldly beautiful the instrument sounds?
Fine tuners will not change/improve intonation.
That was my thought too.
Bullshit while you're intonatin you can use the fine tuners
transtremm I agree
Diego I’m afraid not. Wow! Superb playing. 👍
So the Alex Lifeson without f-holes or the mini-toggle?
What did he say a 1:44? Great for the compia?
Wow came here for the guitar but stayed for the player, bravo!
Great tones on that guitar
Beautiful.
From one Wisco kid to another

What a beauty! Love the guitar too.
hello, what is the best thickness of strings to put on such a guitar? room?
Well played.
Technical explanation from Gibson as to the operation of the Tone Selector; "It makes your tone sound super different."
It’s about damn time
This dude is so good at guitar it’s ridiculous.
What does the tp-6 have to do with intonation ??
Nothing. I would like to think that he just misspoke, but who knows.
TP-6 is for fine tuning, has nothing to do with intonation. It does what it's designed to do extremely well. I have one on my Les Paul and will never go back to the stop tailpiece.
I bought an Epi Blueshawk mainly for the Varitone. It really does increase the versatility of the guitar.

That is real impressive. Would like to learn more about that Fine Tune Tailpiece

I think it looks cool. I have the black Epiphone version so will wait for the Epi white one!
great choice by Gibson getting JJN to demo, guitar looks and sounds fantastic, wish I could afford one

What a versatile guitar, i wish les pauls would come with those features.

Such a beauty 👍❤️👍
Whats the amp he’s playing through ?
Recently had one given to me, and I am missing the chicken head knob, does anyone know where to get authentic parts for them?
I wonder how many thousands
Is that the guitarist that played with pink for the song perfect? The unplugged version.
So rare now to get hold off I can only get one by order a Made to Measure with push-push pots and then a Piezo Power Bridge .....
It's like a 59 caddie with all the options, and just as pretty.
He also had a red one but no white. He did have a white/cream color Les Paul.
That fine tune tail piece is just a bragging right 🤷🏻♂️
My favorite guitar in the color I always wanted. Have to figure out how to afford it...
Jared can jam just like Lemmo. Dope guitar.
Is it me or did he use 2 guitars on this? one with jumbo fretwires and one with the vintage size fretwires?
Gibson is on it's way back folks!!!!
Probably the best Gibson has made in awhile
I’m happy to play it it’s just so expensive
Please Gibson put back the "Lucille" mother of pearl signature on the Headstock (and "no signature" pickup covers) as it's been for years.
"Like country sound, almost?" It doesn't 'almost' sound like country, it DOES!
