For my kind of usage, 95% on-road usage, the rest, for the need to go off-road and 4x4, the P-Series GWM LTE 4x4 is a winner. Comfortable ride on the road, all the best safety and tech features few of them can compare with, actually much better fuel comsumption as expected (8.7l / 100km in city/suburbia, 10l/100km long-road, gunning it). Very happy with everything thus far! 5 year warranty / 100 000km, being a 2022 model, I think for 300k less, with all the safety and tech features added, plus double leather stitching, I got a fantastic buy! Loving it! I'm not a farmer, but a city-slicker, and I'm very happy with my P-Series LTE 2022 4x4. Best investment I've made thus far! P.S. Never imagined myself driving a Chinese car, in my lifetime, being a Mercedes and Honda fan, all my life, I am pleasantly surprised at this amazing vehicle, thus far! Only time will tell. But with 4y warranty and service left, got very little to lose! Let's see! (Apple - Designed in California, made in China lmao)
I was about to say as well that the Adidas you might be wearing could be designed in Germany but made in China, so methinks the 'China is fake or cheap' argument needs to be looked at on a case by case and this P-Series needs to be given a wild pass because it's sure a good bakkie.

The 3 liter Isuzu D'Max and clone Mazda BT 50 can with a simple computer remap gain another 50% more power and torque, one diesel specialist in Australia is with exhaust, turbo, intercooler and injector modifications doubling the output. But safely and reliably a 30 - 50% power increase with a remap is a no brainer, the 6 speed Aisin/Warner trans will handle it with a good cooler no problem.

The power figures are up the shit, the hilux claims 500nm but gets out dragged and easily out pulled by the rest, in Australia the reliability king is Isuzu's mighty 4j followed by the Triton, Hilux is old , outdated and ridiculously expensive, still has a class action against Toyota for engine problems. The Rangers on paper are great but have years of unreliability to shake off, you either got a good one or a shit one, its a 50/50 gamble and Ford and Toyota are renowned for being bastards with warranty claims, Toyota already making excuses for high oil usage in the new Cruiser blaming owners.

The Japanese brands have focused on the older customer who is not tech savvy, while Ford/Amarock have realised that younger customers are more comfortable with tech giving Ford/Amarock the opportunity to appeal to a younger audience…
@@DJTrumpMAGA agreed! Proud owner of a Triton. Unbelievable vehicle and keeps things simple so that it will last a long time to come. The insurance on Hilux and Amaroks is eye-watering.
I like tech, and in this case the Hilux is probably not the best, that one usb port and poor sound system quality., But still the Hilux interior is a very nice place to be in, the best cupholders( please use it and you will not be happy with your Ford). And I sit inside my car for long periods. I have personally sold my 2019 Hilux due to the terrible suspension, and my old 3.0 d4d is still giving me great service and with a tweak in the engine still gives 190 kw which not any of the new Diesel Fords or Amarok can equal. And the old Hilux still got the best cupholders. 😂😂😂
I wonder what shocks and springs in South Africa does the Hilux use ... i drove a triton back to back with a Hi-lux Conquest ... Triton was way smoother on the road. Both running on 30psi stock tires
I've always hated my Fords by comparing them to others, but they always did the job really well, but wait, 5 Fords later and am loving them like no other. Rangers rule.
Fantastic review. My input on a Hilux: its a nice place to be in the driving seat. But upgrade the sound. But the layout is for me. I still doubt the suspension compared with the D4D’s. I hear about all the good caracterisstics of other bakkies, but if I have to buy now it will be difficult to buy anything else than a Hilux. But hopefully the new Triton as I have always liked them, but they are always just that bit behind.
Look..the Ford Ranger and Amarok are by far better than the Hilux. Thr Hikux is basic therefore a bit more reliable. The drive on the Ranger/Amafordn is outstanding. The interior is top notch..without comparison.
I agree. Toyota has been holding on to that reliability, with no consideration for safety and tech features. I guess the majority of the South African consumer, when it comes to bakkies, need a reliable, off-road 4x4 bakkie, on their farm, and the average boer don't care about tech. They don't live in the big cities, so Toyota has gotten away with it for years. I think they have to get their s*$t together, as Ford is giving them a run for their money, but GWM is also catching up really quick, for a lot better value. These giants, some even manufacturing on our home turf, have gotten away with it for far too long! You'll be lucky to get cruise control as a thing on your Hilux, but a GWM P Series gives you adaptive cruise control, blindspot warning, lane assist, 360 camera etc. on the LT series as standard, to name a few! If I was a farmer, yes, the Hilux would be the choice. But if you're a city-slicker, that now and then would like to take your family on an adventure, with safety and tech as your main concern, then, a GWM P series is perhaps your choice.
What would've been interesting is adding the previous Ranger Thunder to the test just to see how it still compares even though there's a new generation.
Id say instead of bringing old models for comparison rather add extra models like the BT50, Mahindra. Rather make a seperate video to compare old to new.
The Navarra has not tested well when heavier towing due to the rear coils and its torque spread is not up with the Ranger, Isuzu, Hilux etc. Off road a reasonable choice , however I am aware of several that have suffered rear main seal leaks from new, and warranty replacement hasn't solved the problem, I suggest the Amarok.
I am speaking under correction but I felt the tow capacity was incorrectly displayed "P however only has a load capacity of 650 kg. In a world where a tone is the norm. Braked towing capacity is 2,250 kilos. That's adequate." is what I found.
I have a 2016 Ranger 3.2 wildtrak 4x4 auto and burst a water pipe while driving. NO warning lights on the dash......motor packed up 10km further......which of these bakkies have water level alarms?
You can get the Navara for R705 000. That is far cheaper rhan a Hilux and Ranger, nearly R300000. I cant justify that gap to not rather buy a Navara. Maint plan and guarantee of the best. Actually persons owing the Navara rave about the ride quality, and tow ability, and with the looks, it may just be my choice. I owned a 2011 Mavara and that was just as good as anything else on the market then.
The undisputed king of all bakkies in all markets. The current benchmark. The bakkie which all other bakkies aspire to be. The only bakkie with the wow factor.
The P series is amazing for the 1st year. Thereafter not so much. The windows sounds like a cat being murdered when they are opened or closed due to the rubber hardening. Then the rattles and knocks start on the suspension. And these rattles are NOT covered by the warranty!
Sorry to hear about that but honestly that hasn't been my experience, owned my Pseries 4x4 LT brand new since 2021 and 40 000kms later it's still solid as ever. Guess I've been fortunate. 😊
Hahahaha shit…..I thought I was the only one… I sprayed some WD40 on my windows and squeak is gone. To be fair my amarok and volvo had these squeak too. As for rattle, yep… my 2022 AWD LT started a few weeks ago, something rattling from under or the bed…. Can’t tell…. Overall still like the Bakkie very much. Heated seats are so useful in these winter times.
Where was the BT-50?, unfortunately it hasn't seen sales in SA, however it sells well in Australia and according to one of the top Australian RUclips auto channels its a much better choice over the D-Max. The channel also warned consumers to stay clear of the GWM ute or bakkie, an acquaintance now wishes that he had taken that advice with his two GWM bakkies, the channel stated that GWM would throw you under the bus and thats exactly what they have done. The channel also states that the problem with Ranger is Ford, VW aren't great with customer service down under either. The channel dedicated a similar length feature as this one to after market service and warns us consumer that the only time on the clock in the dealers showroom is "bullshit '0 clock." In my personal pov, the Ranger doesn't have the same appeal that the outgoing one did when it first launched. Its too box-like, the Amarok is the better looking of the two, the Navaro sports a dated interior, whilst the exterior is somewhat appealing on the eye, the Triton is long in the tooth, great front, odd rear, just watched a video of the new one, the D-Max is dated too 😳, (coming from an Isuzu fan), Toyota (as with all of them) are overrated, ride on people's perception, usually underkitted , expensive, and the Hilux looks odd too...the rear looks at odds with the rest of the vehicle. Toyota got the styling right with the Tacoma, apparently the new Hilux will be based on that pick-up. The Amarok is probably the best choice out of the lot, in my personal pov, for looks, cabin ergonomics and ride comfort. Odd that a box is more aerodynamic than a sleeker version 🤔 Great video, I enjoyed it.
For me reliability will always go above ANYTHING!!! if you value more a comfort ride and and you are not going to go hard terrain driving go for the Ford or Amarok, want a bullet proof long term ownership and good resale value go with the Japanese (specially Isuzu and Mitsubishi)
I must say i disagree with the triton I am disappionted in the triton but i must say the 2007 3.5 litre v6 triton is probably one of the best except for the fuel economy But it is amazing to see that mahindra doesnt make it into this In my opinion i would rather buy a mahindra and change all the things that i dont like for the price difference

Hilux
Isuzu
More likely all diesels legislated off the road due to emissions, even in South Africa
Isuzu and Mitsubishi have by far the most robust and reliable drivetrains.
my good Sir, what did you end up getting ?
Great video🙌
But why use the legend for comparison and not the raider? Shouldnt the legend be compared to the fords wildtrack? And will there be a Ford Raptor vs toyota hilux GR comparison👀
Thanks for the comprehensive video. It was great to hear how they all compare.
I'd probably go for either the isuzu or the Ford, but GWM piques my interest.
Thanks for the the great detailed edits on each 4x4 Sir !
Great video as always. hoping you guys do an in-depth review of the new Mazda bakkie.
The Mazda is there, you just need to look at the Isuzu, but with a Mazda badge. Same same.
The Japanese brands have focused on the older customer who is not tech savvy, while Ford/Amarock have realised that younger customers are more comfortable with tech giving Ford/Amarock the opportunity to appeal to a younger audience…
Yes young and inexperienced. They don’t know what they are getting themselves into with the Ranger and Amorak.
@@DJTrumpMAGAAnd the hilux is so outdated my great grandfather had a superior suspension on his ox wagon
@@DJTrumpMAGA agreed! Proud owner of a Triton. Unbelievable vehicle and keeps things simple so that it will last a long time to come. The insurance on Hilux and Amaroks is eye-watering.
young people r buying golfs ...they're not smart enough to realize the power of a bakkie
What if Honda also bring bakkies to SA? but they have bakkies for the US, we can do with smaller engines not what they have there.
The Honda bakkie in the USA is unlikely to ever come to SA, the Ridgeback they get is unique in it being a unibody platform. Would love to drive one.
Hey I saw the new Toyota Crown in Milnerton today. Nice :)
I'm a Isuzu fan, but I'm just checking what happened to the Mazda BT 50?
Love the Hilux, tupperware interior and technology dating back 20 years. Rattles included in the inflated price........
I have loaded 900kgs in the bin no problem and I towed 3000kgs no problem in the p-series multiple time, and bakkie is on 150 000kms no issues
Lovely show,great staff
welldone to the team world class presentation
P series ❤
Love the LCD clock in the Hilux, simple and straight forward 👍
That clock reminds me of the Toyota Cressida
Times have moved. Why bring old craps into the convo? Madness
@@vhakisa well you clearly didn't read my comment with much understanding
@@jonastsatsi1414 the video is all about the "new 2023" models. Not ones from the previous years. I hope now you understand
Id say instead of bringing old models for comparison rather add extra models like the BT50, Mahindra. Rather make a seperate video to compare old to new.
@@vhakisa You are clearly a troll, a bully, a mean girl and an angry bird.
Great review Ciro👍
as a south african, im either getting an amarok although very disappointing compared to the old one.... or ill get the navara
Very true...
I would like to see the JAG T9, Mahindra Karoo and Peogeot Landtrek included in such a shoot out.
I am speaking under correction but I felt the tow capacity was incorrectly displayed "P however only has a load capacity of 650 kg. In a world where a tone is the norm. Braked towing capacity is 2,250 kilos. That's adequate." is what I found.
Any feedback on dust issues in the cabin on the ford and amarok bakkies while driving on gravel?
P series for me
I wish the landtrack Peugeot would have been included in the video. Great information overall
New Generation Ford Ranger is a stunner and it is very comfy
Which bakkie is your favourite and why?
My favourite bakkie is my neighbours one. I can still drive a fun car. And borrow his bakkie when I need a bakkie
Hilux is the best bakkie there is.
Indistructible Hilux 😊
The undisputed king of all bakkies in all markets. The current benchmark. The bakkie which all other bakkies aspire to be. The only bakkie with the wow factor.
Amarok with Ranger tub , ranger gear selector , old Amarok V6 and 8 speed ZF.
At P Series price.
Hilux shouldn’t get a mention doesn’t even have the same safety standards as Ford or Isuzu, Mazda new latest standards
😂
Compare the old amarok in this review. To me the old amarok is better than all these bakkies
What happened to the Nissan Hardbody, it seems as if it been left behind. Are we gonna get new ones in SA, on the level of this brands?
I like bakkies they're my favourite.
Also had my P Series LT 4x4 from 2021 and no such issues whatsoever. Solid vehicle.
@@lennymful No issues with these in Australia, anyone winging like that online is either jealous or 15
I have LS model 2021, no issues at all, so far I m happy with my P Series
I want to say the Amarok is the best but I don't like it for some reason. Ranger wins for me.
Give me the Amarok with V6 diesel Panamericana trim and I am sold
I love all Japanese Engineering
All the bakkies are beautiful but still I love Isuzu
As pricey as the Hilux is, it is still the best overall solid, as the monthly sales figures shows. You can't have South Africa without a Hilux.
Hilux proves that being the best-seller and actually being a good product are 2 completely different things
Not even close.. more like anc votes.
Indeed popular, so popular that if you can’t afford one you must steal, rob, rape, murder for one . No for me.
@@yissibiiyteso Hilux is not a good product?
@@yissibiiytehonestly one of the best comments I've ever read concerning hilux
Go do a 4 grand mapping on the p series and you sort the power and lag problem
He is just cool....and seems pretty right in all he says
Where was the BT-50?, unfortunately it hasn't seen sales in SA, however it sells well in Australia and according to one of the top Australian RUclips auto channels its a much better choice over the D-Max. The channel also warned consumers to stay clear of the GWM ute or bakkie, an acquaintance now wishes that he had taken that advice with his two GWM bakkies, the channel stated that GWM would throw you under the bus and thats exactly what they have done. The channel also states that the problem with Ranger is Ford, VW aren't great with customer service down under either. The channel dedicated a similar length feature as this one to after market service and warns us consumer that the only time on the clock in the dealers showroom is "bullshit '0 clock."
In my personal pov, the Ranger doesn't have the same appeal that the outgoing one did when it first launched.
Please review the land rover sport and disco
My favourite part I’d the Toyota’s roller shutter demo.
Which one the best pick up no list from 1 to 7 !!!!
Watch a Video, Triton vs Hilux, I Like the Nissan plastic Because it's Easy to Clean, Thank you.
I must say i disagree with the triton
I am disappionted in the triton but i must say the 2007 3.5 litre v6 triton is probably one of the best except for the fuel economy
But it is amazing to see that mahindra doesnt make it into this
In my opinion i would rather buy a mahindra and change all the things that i dont like for the price difference
Awesome
I would buy a LX570, Landcruiser 200 450 d , with 150k mileage for this price and have more money left in 3 years with a much better ownership storey
No you wont. 2016 lx570 is well over R1.1m with 150k km.
