5 Reasons to Buy a FULL-SIZE SUV over a MINIVAN …sold my Toyota Sienna for an Escalade!

- Here are the top 5 reasons to buy a full-size SUV over a minivan. I recently sold my 2023 Toyota Sienna 25th Anniversary Edition and bought a Cadillac Escalade ESV. We couldn’t be happier. We absolutely love our full-size SUV. Are there pros and cons to each? Of course. But for our young family of 6… the Escalade made much more sense.
5 Reasons to Buy a Full-Size SUV instead of a Minivan:
1. No compromised space
2. Safety
3. 4x4 ground clearance
4. Power/towing capability
5. Avoid the minivan stigma
What are your thoughts? Would you agree? Did I miss any reasons?
Thanks for watching as always.

"Mrs. Untamed didn't want to part of "THAT group of moms." Wow!
After having our 3rd child, our 4Runner just wasn’t doing it for us.
We opted to get a 2020 sequoia TRD Pro. Bought last week and haven’t looked back. Full-size is amazing.
That’s awesome man, congrats! That gen sequoia is fantastic! Plus that V8 is glorious. 🙌
I mean, Sienna VS Escalade ? Not much of a comparison TBH. 2 different class and size of vehicles, Escalade is also a luxury vehicle. Thanks for the video !
All 5 reasons make sense to me, based on your family’s needs. 👍🏻
Yes up on the mainland where you guys drive faster and have more Semi’s I think the Escalade ESV/Suburban/Yukon XL etc is a better deal.
I am still going with the Sienna with the 36mpg as it is more maneuverable for our tight spaces here in Honolulu
Definitely having that extra room from the 3rd row n back is a plus. Growing up my Pops had a 94 Chevy suburban and having that extra room made the long car rides comfortable
Nice! Yeah it’s proven to be perfect for the kiddos… they love all the space. No complaints to be honest. =]
The 6.2 engine it's good ??
I'm sure it drives great, there's plenty of room, but I know people who sell their car after 100,000 miles because they're afraid of repairs, and the Toyota will do 500,000 miles and still drive without any problems.
Beautiful SUV Untamed 🔥👏🏼🔥👏🏼🔥👏🏼🔥
Thank you, Mike!! 🙌
I've been having this same internal argument with myself for the past couple weeks. Im about to upgrade from a midsize sedan to either a minivan or fullsize suv, and I'm really leaning on the latter to fit the role of the "Family Truckster" and this video really bolsters the idea in my head.
With all the boxes that a full-size SUV checks off for me its just hard to consider a minivan. I need the towing capabilities and love the space in the cabin, plus a classic body-on-frame truck platform is so much more rugged than any unibody. Plus I'd love for my 2 kids to be able to enjoy the extra space growing up in it. For my price range, used Armadas and QX80s (same platform) are looking to be the best deal overall.
I really enjoyed the vid, thanks!
P.S. theres also THOSE moms in the Full Size realm and yours being an Escalade pushes that stereotype that im sure the wife is aware of 😂😂😂
A minivan is hands down the better choice and I like trucks, but if you’re talking passenger space and comfort, you can’t beat a minivan. An Odyssey/Sienna/Pacifica have more cargo space than a Tahoe. You’d have to step up to a Suburban to compete regarding cargo space and even then, a Sienna destroys the Suburban in regards to second row leg room. Try it out, you’ll be surprised.
@smrtguy77777 test drove a 2017 sienna XLE and a 2018 Armada Platinum and fell in love with the latter. The sienna was just "meh" in my opinion. You're completely wrong by my standards. The full size SUV is exactly what I need from what I have learned from the test drives. I need towing capability and I live in an area where my outdoorsmanship could use a decent off-roader. Sure you can't beat the Toyota name generally, but the Y62 Armada (it's a Patrol) is the best thing I can afford and I dig it
@smrtguy77777 also I'm upgrading from a 2013 Passat, so either a minivan or an SUV will be an upgrade technically😂
My friend had a problem with Cadilac after 100,000 miles, the transmission broke down, the suspension cost him about 10,000 then the window on the driver's side didn't work. Parts very expensive! So it will be 100 thousand miles, expect repairs! or replace the car with a new one after one hundred thousand miles have passed
Live in New York City I have TLC stigma like cab driver now
Wow...thats a beautiful spec. Minivans are coo but I'd take this over one any day,
Thanks man. Haha yeah both Mrs Untamed and I feel much better driving this compared to the Sienna. 👍
I am a minivan lover, but the point you made about being rear ended by a semi is always my concern too with minivans. This would be the main and probably the only point that would sway me towards this suv.
Any concerns with reliability? Or is there a reason you went with that generation Escalade vs the current generation? I am thinking of getting a used Escalade (15-20 model year) or a Tahoe from (21-23) just not sure which is more reliable
I have it under warranty then an extended warranty. I’m not worried about lifter issues. Seem to be less prone on 2020 models based on what I’ve read on forums too.
Let’s be honest, this will be gone in a few weeks anyway 😂
Beautiful machine. Black exterior kinda hard to keep clean. Now you need to build an accessory garage to keep it out of the weather.
Let’s see you park it in the garage and close the garage door. 😄
Good points. Keep that family safe.
Haha yeah about that 😆
Need to move my shelving if I want to park it and shut the garage. 😬
Thanks man
Agree x 5
I’m waiting for the Sequoia L edition.
What year is yours, and how many miles it looks b/w 2018 and 2020.
This is a 2020 29K miles
@@UntamedMotors thanks for sharing. It looks really sweet.
Would be nice to get a video from you talking about how good/bad it is to own it a little bit down the road.
Are these larger vehicles difficult to back up? I want a minivan or SUV but my mom said a sedan is easier to drive and back. She said there's no way to see behind you in the rear with a minivan or SUV.
That’s what back up or surround view cameras are for. You can see everything. Plus many have parking sensors that also work if someone walks behind or in front of you.
You sound like you still live with the parents. Unless you're paying for the vehicle, be happy with whatever your mother wants to get you.
If you wanna have fun while you're still in high school though, the minivan is the way to go. Me and the boys would take the minivan EVERYWHERE on the weekends. Plus they get better fuel economy than SUVs
Hope that 6.2 don’t have lifter issues
Hope not! 🤞🏻
Our daughter did. $3,000 to repair and GM would not take responsibility. One reason why I NEVER plan on owning a GM product again.
How are you able to trade these cars in when you want?
Takes lots of phone calls to negotiate the best possible deal that allows for the least amount of loss.
@@UntamedMotors thanks for answering very fast 2 lol
Next step Mercedes sprinter😂
Agreed
Haha the thought has crossed my mind a couple of times… 😂 🤔
@@UntamedMotors Mercedes-Benz is adding an all-electric variant to the Sprinter van family for 2024.
Just wish that was 1/2 as reliable at a Toyota or Lexus
Yeah same here man… same here =\
I had 5 kids and 4 of them in diapers at the same time. We bought a camping potty and keep it in the back. It shaved two hours on a trip to the mountains.
Oh wow! That is impressive! You just have the patience of a god lol. Pro move with the camping potty. 👌
I can only afford to buy the mini van, and i can only afford to fill up my mini van at the pump...😅
when you have teens you will love it
But I like your videos 🎉
Why the Escalade over a sequoia?
Rules for those on an unlimited budget.
This is embarrassing....
Yeah. You can buy two Siennas for the price of an Escalade.
The ESV version of the Escalade is even more expensive...
Sounds like you care too much about what others think. 😂
Nope not at all. Do you?
New Cadillac Escalade is JUNK. THIS TRUCK is a NIGHTMARE
And now you’re stuck forever forever with this😂
Haha didn’t get it to flip. Needed a family hauler that actually fit us and out things.
I'm afraid this might be the only cool lux vechile in this seating/rear space league
@@noctilucent7396 cool money pit, money sinkhole, sponge, freeloader
Strange reason
Umm wha?
This brand USE only by BLM TLC or funeral business I hate this track
Nah minivans are better than full size SUVs
Not even close. Unless your only priority is fuel economy. 👎
@@UntamedMotors minivans are more practical, more spacious, more efficient, more equipped, with more value, more tech, minivans are better vehicles.
@@rafaelg9016 far less space in the minivan and won’t take an impact quite like this full-size suv. I’d prefer to put my family in this when it comes to safety. Imagine a minivan with its tiny front end hitting this in a head on collision? Suddenly all the reason you like vans more don’t matter huh? 😉
@@UntamedMotorsyou do know that crash test ratings are not just how the vehicle takes a hit but actually more how the occupants fare when taking that hit.... Right? The air bags and equipment in minivans are very substantial and they still have the necessary crumple zones that all vehicles have. A bigger heavier SUV would still be safer but only if the occupants were retrained and protected by enough air bags. So much more than just big vehicle vs small vehicle.
@@BrandonContracting I’m very aware. You’d rather be in a minivan vs a full size suv in an accident? 🧐 a Prius has a 5 star crash test rating. Doesn’t mean much when it slams into a semi. Basic physics is important to consider, not just the ratings that are pushed to help sell vehicles. 😉
