F-150 guy here. Rented a new 19 Suburban and drove across half the country. Did 3500 miles. By the second day it had become referred to as "The Burb". Had seven in it and packed with luggage. Still had room for another and all their stuff. Did 23.5 mpg hand calculated.
Handing the keys back was rough.
I'm in love.
My wife and I rented a 19 Tahoe for a vacation. Just two of us for the road trip but 6 of us rode around in it locally. Packed with luggage and coolers it got 28MPG with the variable displacement active.
I want one.
similar experience here! went to California for Thanksgiving last year the vehicle we had rented was unavailable so they gave us a free upgrade to a Suburban. It drove like a dream and it held 7 no problem. I have been looking for a decent used one but they fly off the lot before I can get in.

Lol it's funny. Americans think 20mpg is good mileage, over in Europe where gas doesn't cost the price of a pickle we get 40 to 75mpg. Happily driving 1.7 litre diesel

Found this channel yesterday, spent 10 minutes looking for a suburban video... good timing.
Grew up with that truck, new one every 3 years or so. My dad still has the last one he bought, a 2010.
Jesse Mora suburbans are wid it use em at work never knew too much about em so this was nice, I tried finding videos of it swinging but the one from the intro was the best I’ve seen I talked to my girl about suburbans recently cause my dad was able to borrow the one from work to go out and it was fun.. it’s comfy and quick I wouldn’t understand why you’d hate one besides them Lyft/ Uber niggas in Hollywood area... my girl gonna love this vid it’s funny

Im from Belgium and when we went to New York with my familly we rented a Suburban there. It was the most american thing that i have seen/sat in. We loved everysingle part of it it was so big 😂. By far my best memories of the trip

A suburban in New York must have been quite the adventure.
I recently took my 02 suburban, with over 300,000 miles, on a 600 mile ride trip. The only issue it gave me was the air conditioning. One of the best vehicles I’ve ever driven on or off road.
300,000 miles is a show of reliability.

edit: i should also mention that it has the denali package which should have a 6.0, and i think the transmission is just the weak link, since it cant keep up with the torque of the motor + how much weight its having to push

maybe they're far from a perfect vehicle, but god damn when you see a convoy of black suburbans (or Tahoes etc), the dominant presence is just in your face. love it
They're alright, but the new ones are way too underpowered. It weighs 6000lbs, it should be making 400hp minimum and have a 600hp supercharged v8 as an option.
Paying over $40k for a vehicle that does more than a 14 second quarter mile is a rip off.

I live in Tunisia, just near the US embassy. The only American cars sold here are the Cruze, the Aveo, the Mustang and some fiat Jeeps, but those are technically sold worldwide now.
Every time I go to work in the morning, there's a fleet of black suburbans with big armored bumpers going in and out of the embassy. They truly do strike fear.
Nothing compared to a convoy of Mercedes S600 or Rolls Royce's
Man I remember a couple of years ago seeing 4 ninth gen burbans back to back, bark blue, with push bars, foglights, a little bit more lifted, all blacked out windows. With what looked like an ambulance, but dark blue and tinted the fuck out right behind them.
I was like that looks so badass.
I think itd be dope to see how the paint process for cars has changed over the decades.
My father had a 1985 Chevrolet Suburban in gloss white paint with blue interior, good ole 350 with dual exhaust, Mickey Thompson rims wrapped in kelly charger tires, air shocks, and lowered 2 inches.
It was a fun vehicle to drive and cruise in. It sucked filling it up while being in high school. It took a $20 to just fill it up a 1/4 at a time lol. Drove like a Cadillac!

I grew up in a brown 1997 Suburban 2500 with the 6.0 v8, lift kit, soft 8 off-road wheels and mudding tires.

This is true. Many of us Americans complain that our gas is 2.50usd a gallon. But we should actually be thankful that our gas isn't double the price like Europe.

The Suburban/Tahoe/Yukon is by far one of the most cars that screams 'Murica along with the F series trucks and large old full sized sedans. These are also pretty common here in the gulf states in the middle east.
In high school, we had a late 80's model "Bourdon" with the barn doors and a stick shift. When you have a family of 7, you needed a Suburban. It was a beast! We bought it used, someone had put an old cast-iron cemetery gate on the front and lovingly named it the "Bondo Buggy."

I got a 99 Suburban. The 2500 model with the 7.4L about a year ago. She was neglected by the previous owner, but a little bit of love and a 1200 mile road trip later, she's running stronger than ever!

You sure its a queen? My 97 the queen folds up on the sides over the wheel wells and wont lie perfectly flat, but couple inches a full size slips right in like a glove in between the wheels, with room for gear in the corners
Serveck I believe it was a queen with some custom alterations to make it fit perfectly. Also had a kid-size bunk bed fitted widthways along the back window.

Suburban is all time favorite car ever, never going to be a bad truck/SUV. My family has the 2007 LT model. It's so good, it looks like a midnight edition.
I grew up riding in a 9th Gen. had 230k miles on it before the rear end rusted out. It is true what they say about GM trucks; "You know its going to last when the check engine light comes on."
10th gen with 350K+ miles on it and still goin' strong!

I took my driving exam in a suburban. I didn’t park in between the cones but they let me reverse and try again cuz the car was so huge. I passed!
I did mine in one and just had to back into an ordinary parking stall. After trying and failing several times at parallel parking.
I love how the Suburban/Yukon XL was redesigned for 2021. They look so sleek.

I saw a suburban with tints on the front window. It was about 1 meter Long. And 1 foot wide rectangle you could see out of. The rest was blacked out... Which is pretty illegal where i live, but very cool.
75IFFY you can get your windows tinted in any car customization shop in your area depending on the legal percentage of tint allowed ..

Ehhh as much as I like Silverado’s it would be a boring episode. There’s nothing SUPER special about them. Their just generally considered strong reliable trucks for the most part. It would be like doing an Up to Speed on a Toyota Camry. But that’s just my opinion

Man, I remember seeing the Suburban 75th anniversary Diamond Edition at the dealership. It was glorious, and I was a kid with huge love for GM. Now I don’t love them as much as before, but the Suburban will always have a special place in my heart. As well as the Toyota Land Cruiser.

My '99 2500 8th gen is one of my favorite rigs I've ever owned. 454 woth 270k miles and still going really strong. Heated leather piwer seats, heated side mirrors and front/ heat and ac. My friends '10 Escalade has ac seats and that's the only thing my truck doesn't have. I love it and will drop in engine and trans as needed. I'm not getting rid of it.
Great video! My mother got hers brand new in 2005 and then our neighbor got a brand new Yukon and our other neighbor got a brand Tahoe Z71. She started the trend in our cul-de-sac all purchased within the year😂
My late grandfather drove a 'burb. In the 1970s, everyone was driving station wagons. My grandfather proverbially noted, "In fifty years, everyone will be driving Suburbans"
Well, he was right sort of. Clearly not everyone, but they certainly are popular. One must consider how this car, above all others, has been in production since 1935-while many other brands and models have faded away with the passage of time.
Not in the 70s we were driving vans but they ruined the van market makeing them all look the same so we switched to burbs

@@asmith7094 Oh and finally hit 196,052 original miles. Was originally used as a farm vehicle in Arizona and sold to me in 2020 in California. Almost no rust except the exhaust. Love my Beast.

1) Thank you so much for making an up to speed of my favorite vehicle of all time. I grew up in Janesville, WI. My dad’s friends put together the suburban I grew up in and drove through high school. We’ve owned three and now I get to drive UNLs fleet burbs.
2) the Tahoe and Suburban were released at the same time in 2008- perhaps you meant the Tahoe/suburban took cues from the Silverado?
3) the latest gen suburban was out for the 2015 model year- check out 2014 suburbans on the used market
4 Years late to the show but I have a 2004 Yukon XL. Absolutely love it. 412,000km on the original drivetrain and still goin strong.

I love my 2009 suburban. When my dad first bought it, I was only a kid. Now that I'm a grown man, he gave it to me and it means a lot to me.
Here (in Paraguay) when Alfredo Stroessner was president (dictator) from 1954 to 1989, during his government the police bought the 6th, 7th, and 8th gen, the name given from the people was Caperucita Roja (like the story of the Little Red Riding Hood) because it was red, and it was also used a lot to kidnap people who were suspected of being against the president or had left-wing thinking and they were taken to a few places to be tortured or made disappear (they killed them), if you ask someone who lived in that era, he will tell you that everyone was afraid if the Caperucita stopped in front of your house or followed you which meant that they were watching and/or chasing you; personally i think it was the best police vehicle we had. And obviously the embassy of United States has an armored fleet!

A long ass time ago (I was in 6th or 7th grade now I’m 19), my dad got into a wreck in his Mazdaspeed 6, so we had to get a rental. The rental we got was a black 2013 or so suburban. I remember my dad saying how he didn’t like it but he had to get it because it was the only vehicle the rental agency had. And I was in orchestra back then so we had to go get my cello. Needless to say it fit effortlessly and I still felt like I could have a tennis match inside of the suburban. I’ve always loved em and I always will

Both my dad and my grandfather own a Suburban. My dad's is a 2012 and my Grandpa has the latest version. My grandpa, I'm pretty sure, has owned maybe every version of Suburban since 1995. Living out here in Central PA since then has caused him to crash into several, poor deer, nearly totaling the truck every time. It was the perfect excuse to upgrade to the newest version every year. He inspired my dad to buy his Suburban, like father like son.
My Grandfather had a 1950 and a 1968 GMC Suburban ..... My Father had a 1974 Chevy Suburban as well as a 2007 Suburban .... These things are awesome ..... This video is great .... I used a 2003 Z71 Suburban which was super cool .... Now I have a 2010 LTZ .... The Suburban runs in my family for the longest time ...

It's a gas hog in the city yes but it does have a gigantic fuel tank.
You can drive 600 miles on a road trip before you have to fill-er-up. I had a 2015 Suburban that I drove from Philadelphia to Florida. I only had to stop once in Florence, SC for a refill. If it’s just city driving in Philly, you can go 400 miles between fill ups, and it runs on 87 octane.
Flashback to my high school days: going with my dad and grandpa (both of whom were Chevy guys) took me to get my first ride and I pick an '03 Suburban, which only costed $7k back then. Been in the Suburban game since. Fast forward to today, my Escalade ESV V-Series has been unloaded off of the truck and I'm headed to the dealer to pick it up.

The dually 'Suburban' you see actually wasn't mass produced. It was an option to have the Suburban body placed on a 1-ton chassis for a Silverado. They are extremely rare (the most notable one being used in the movie Twister). But the Suburban diesels were around - albeit they were kind of junky unfortunately. The diesels were ahead of their time, and people didn't know how to maintain them; so they didn't last very long.
@@sreilly The specific diesels used in the production models were actually quite obsolete compared to those used by Ford and Dodge. GM didn't have a decent diesel option for their trucks until 2001, which was also when they stopped offering a diesel option for the Suburban.

@@theunknownone5990 also gm just didnt offer their diesels in the trucks because the only ones that made sense where their experiments with 4 strokes because they weight in at less then gms 3 cylinder diesels while producing more power. Albeit less reliable then gm diesel/detroit/emd options they really where the ones that made sense as they produced them inhouse like all Detroit and emd diesels till they sold them the series 50 and 60 where codesigned by John Deere's so gm had plenty of very good options just you didnt get them below a medium duty because of weight

I just rebuilt the motor and tranny in my 1999 after 215000 miles on the original power train. I will never get rid of it, and now it’s got some fun goodies with the rebuild. Hehe.

Lol, alot of the Mormons I Idaho have them. My mom's side family is Mormon and they all have suburbans or yukons to stuff their 6 kids into. Also I have a good friend of mine who is Mormon and they have a Yukon. I dont blame them it's a great vehicle, you get alot of the capability of a pickup but alot of room for people on the inside but I will stick with my pickup trucks.
I was raised Mormon and we always either had 'Burbans or Tahoes. My first car was a 2000 Tahoe z71. Great cars and can definitely carry your convoy of kids.
I drive a 7th gen suburban, it’s a 1989. Best car I’ll probably ever own tbh, drives amazing, sounds amazing, tows amazing (done 12,000lbs with it), and the cargo/passenger capacity is just great. The barn doors are awesome. Mine has a 350 small block, super reliable, super fuel inefficient tho. 10mpg is kinda rough. But I think it’s worth it, if you have the money I highly recommend buying a squarebody suburban.
