There’s no problem with an elytra. Travelling faster is actually good because it means that people can find better places to build 10x quicker. Also, before it was harder to beat the game. But now beating the game and getting an elytra isn’t ‘endgame’ if all it takes is massacring blazes and spamming gold at piglins then spamming beds at the ender dragon so you can ender pearl across void until you can find one.

In my mind Elytra is quite useful for building and scoping out areas and biomes, saving players time and energy when it comes to playing the game. I think it deserves itself a bit of a nerf, but with the new updates to the game, anyone could argue that minecraft has just became to easy. The idea of putting it in the end, was a good play on Mojang's part until the end became too easy to achieve. Where it would take longer to get to the stronghold by hunting endermen, the nether update gave us piglins to speed up the entire process. Heck even the ender dragon being the "final boss" and giving us "the end" achievement can be defeated with a few beds.
In my mind, and elytra just makes the game more efficient, is it a bit buff in my mind? Yes, but I think that taking away firework rockets would ruin it. Minecraft is solving more problems by creating more problems. Perhaps in the future the Elytra could be dealt like shields, arrows or other airborn projectiles could have the chance disarm it for a few seconds, from the classic mobs to skilled archers.

The main problem is the progression in Minecraft - it's too fast and too easy. No one uses leather armor, horses or camels in the early game because it's better to just get some iron, build a nether portal and start mid-game, and also no one uses mine carts or the recovery compass because it's better to just get some diamonds and find the end portal.

    • @Gigi4u
      @Gigi4u 7 месяцев назад +180

Minecraft is a sandbox game and does not have a set progression path to take. It is up to the player how they move forward in the game , for example you can make a portal before getting iron armor even through it is ill advised to do that early but you can. You can also just take your time and not rush through the game so fast and enjoy it at your own pace. I feal like the game isn't as absurdly easy as some people say it is,it's just that you got good at the game over the years and no longer feal the challenge a new player might experience on there first playthrough It happens to every game you have mastered. No subsequent play though will be as fun or challenging as the first.

    • @Gigi4u
      @Gigi4u 7 месяцев назад +40

@@Blue_Doge true most people today think minecraft should get harder and harder with every update even though it would make it harder for new players to understand and finish the game. Portals are for new players hard to understand but when you successfully understand what to do you are good to go but with the recent villager changes, they are making a already complex system a lot more confusing and convoluted for new players to understand. Like how is a new player supposed to know that enchantment books are bimome dependent or that swamp/jungle villagers exist without Googleing for it. It is bad game design when you need to Google the answer for a problem you face.
Also the new villager map don't help much because they are also biome dependent and if you don't know that ench village type has a unique enchantment you will not know what use it has autside of finding different village's.

    • @Blue_Doge
      @Blue_Doge 7 месяцев назад +11

@@Gigi4u yea the biome villagers are terrible, the workbench ones where the right balance of haveing some complexity without scareing newbies. and if you wan't to make minecraft harder just add something like a deep dark relm (that actually gives a benifit for exploring there) and don't make the stuff that is supposed to be easy for the new players hard.
Also a big gripe I have about the new villagers is it isn't nessisarlly complicated just tedious and confusing

    • @Gigi4u
      @Gigi4u 7 месяцев назад +12

@@Blue_Doge ultimately the villager changes don't add any skill to the process but instead waiste your time Hulling around villagers for thousands of blocks multiple times. It isn't fun or requires skill it is just boring time wasting, that makes getting books from villagers unnecessarily time consuming and boring. At least with the armor trimms you hand decent trade of for making netherite harder to obtain in exchange for decorative armor designs. But with the villagers they are taking something away and not giving anything in return.
New players already have a hard time understanding all current villager mechanics but if these changes get implemented a lot of people will strait up stop bothering to interact with villager due to the difficulty of understanding and working with them, especially moving them to other bimomes in a boat on land.

Rails should you allow to make a whole train, with a locomotive wagon and attach as manny wagons with chest as you want, it would make the rail transport more "overpowered" but in a different sense, instead of allowing for a fast way of travel it should allow you to move a shitton of materials in one go from one place to another, bulk transport.

That's right, there are bugs that dupe items, there are literal cheats, and ways to play in an unfair and broken way.
So if the elytra feels like a cheat to you, just don't use it. Simple. It's not an issue for you to play the way you want to play.
It's not like the game forces you to use an elytra, you can still build that railway, and it will just become the "slightly faster than walking, non-degrading, automatic potentially visually stunning way to travel that doesn't require consumables" instead of the "fastest way to travel". It doesn't need to be the fastest, it has its niche IMO. No one mentioned that minecarts are the FASTEST WAY to get through tiny spaces like tunnels, so if you're going into an underground area and don't feel like opening it up because, idk, it would ruin the buiild, then minecarts are objectively the best option.
Horses? They are the fastest over land with no setup that is non degradable.
Boats? Obviously they see much use for obvious reasons... a lot of Minecraft's world generation is ocean biomes. And ice tracks are fun to use and super fast.
Heck, you can even make TNT launchers just for fun.
None of these things are obsolete necessarily, so I don't see how Elytra is bad at all.

I personally think Minecraft could benefit a lot from adding actual railways. In real life they are very useful, and I'd love to see them in the game. Imagine transporting a humongous quantity of items by rail. Then we could say: sure, the elytra is faster, but railways can transport so much more. This way maybe people would actually build such infrastructure; from a mine to a construction site, for example.

Part of the issue is Elytra's outclass other methods of transportation so they made it so repairing it requires phantom membranes, which are annoying to get. However you can just use mending on an elytra, so mending is the issue, right? Then it stems to a big part of the issue, the anvil. Anvil repairs are simply unreasonable as a repair method due to the punishing nature of using an anvil to repair. I'm completely fine with both Elytras and mending but the anvils need some rework or big buff for it to go back to it's original intended use.

In my survival world Elytra was amazing at the start, but over time I ended up using it a lot less - mainly as last-mile transport method, with main transport infrastructure being a mix of piston bolts (faster, fully automatic and allowing to afk while moving) and ice roads (much faster, less attention required). I guess this tends to happen more often when your builds are scattered tens of thousands of blocks apart from each other. Buffing minecart tracks to be on par with piston bolts would by itself solve a lot about Elytra controversy - giving players a tradeoff between requiring effort to build for effortless travel, or requiring effort to travel every time.

Elytra’s have a pro that saves them against the power creep: they allow for free movement. That makes them better for short distances and unorthodox rutes. A few weeks ago there was a bug that allowed for horses to be breeded to run even FASTER than a rocket-spammed elytra, I exploded the shit out of it, and it was extremely fun. Building the infrastructure to breed horses correctly as well as the grind and exploration for getting the resources to get enough potions to get to that level of speed we’re all a very fun challenge with an awesome reward, so awesome in fact that it revived my passion to build infrastructure for land traveling, as I now have a 6k block-spanning highway and are currently building a road network. That hasn’t stopped me from having an elytra, as it is extremely useful for moving around my base and reaching spots the horse would struggle with. In my case, they weren’t opposing excluyent sides of a coin, they are complementary tools for moving around the world, since the horse is my best option for long distance travel

      > painstakingly jump upwards 1 block at a time, or spend time constructing massive, ugly staircases/ladders so you can walk up or down hills
      >use a horse, which inevitably becomes lost/trapped/left behind when you encounter a low-height biome (such as a forest) or body of water (horses cannot and will not swim while riding them.)
      >build a railcar or a water/bubble elevator, which is resource intensive

I mean, I'm one of the people who, when I've _gotten_ an Elytra, mainly use it for gliding. Seriously, best thing to do for a flight travel hub? Build a build-height tower with signs telling you which side to jump from to travel to your iron farm, main nether portal, etc.
That said, what I think would solve a _huge_ problem with this is to give minecarts a small buff. We can make carts for ourselves, carts for our stuff, we can build a furnace cart, and we can make chains. Why can't we make a minecart train already?
My thought for how to fix carts/rails?
Keep the powered rail as it is - they're great for hands-free rapid transit.
Make all Minecarts hold two entities like boats do. This means two players can share a minecart, or a player and villager, or two villagers.
Let us as players remove a "seat" by putting a chest in there instead. Or... Remove a seat and put a _furnace_ in there. Now you have a cart that, when right-clicked on, you sit in it, and right-clicking _while_ you're sat in it lets you put fuel in it. Not just coal - Any fuel source. W to go forward, S to go backward.
Make the "Minecart with Furnace" move at fast horse speeds... When it is powered with fuel, that is. When it's unpowered, it coasts like an empty minecart. This would allow for empty-cart-prepared tracks with powered rails to continue kicking the furnace cart along, making powered rails _not_ useless, because they are still the main method of propelling unpowered carts and making sure you can make it to your destination.
Allow a "Minecraft with Blast Furnace" creation, which can move at ice-boat speeds, but only when fueled with coal, coal blocks, or lava buckets.
Furnace Carts can't "creep" like normal unloaded minecarts with players can. If you have no fuel, and you aren't on a powered rail, you are going _nowhere._
Allow carts to be linked together with chains. You now have basic minecart trains, which can either bring lots of people to a mine, or you and several chest carts.
Because we've created two-seater carts... Allow the creation of the Minecart with Double Chest. No seats, all storage.
The more carts you add to the train, _the slower your furnace cart gets._ You want to go _fast_? Blast Furnace Cart with just one player in it. You need to haul 12 double chest carts and yourself to the top of your mountain base? You might be better off with a standard furnace cart - it's stronger, not faster.
Give us a "buffer" track piece that is _meant_ to stop minecarts at the ends of tracks.
Why is this not overpowered? Because all of this takes time to set up. You're going to need _tons_ of iron and gold to make minecart rails and powered tracks and minecarts. You'll need at least one spare furnace (not a big deal), or a blast furnace (also not a big deal). You'll have to build and spawn-proof tracks and bridges. If you're hauling stuff, you're moving at slower speeds, even if you can haul way more stuff along.
By having at least _one_ thing that can be at speed-parity with an Elytra with _proper setup and planning_, you make the Elytra not overpowered, but you don't power-creep the rest of it.
Elytra become great for end-game exploration, where you're scouting around for new areas.
Horses are still good for land-based travel with high jumps.
Ice Boats are still stupid-fast, require no fuel, but require specialized setup with ice blocks to do their thing.
Carts _become_ useful again as a planned transportation method, and are the _only_ way to haul significant amounts of items around, or ship items from one base to another.
Blast-Furnace carts become the "hot-rodder's favorite" for speed on land. Need to hustle your butt from your farm over to your super-smelter to cook all of this chicken you got? Load up your inventory, set your tracks, and toss some coal in the hole. Your friends are screaming that there's a Warden in your mine and they need some help fighting it? Blast-cart to the rescue. They're the _alternative_ to Elytra, but could easily come with some downsides. Maybe blast-furnace carts with fuel still burning explode like lower-power TNT carts if they come off the track and fall. Gives incentive to _not_ leaving "open tracks" all over the place and instead having proper stations and end stops.
Powered Rails are still _essential_ because they'll "get you home" in the event you run out of fuel in your furnace cart, even if you lose lots of speed in the process.

For me, transport in Minecraft basically falls in three groups:
    Infrastructure, non AFK
This is stuff like ice boats and horses. You have to build the path, whether its ice roads, canals, or clearing trees and building bridges for horses
    Infrastructure, AFK
This is just minecarts and piston bolts. Takes a while to build, but you can leave the keyboard completely while using it.
    No infrastructure, non afk
This is where the elytra falls, as well as simply walking, though usually with walking you do the same thing as with horses where you build paths and bridges if you're walking the same way a lot. The thing is, elytras have a very minor downside for how fast they are, you have to control them when flying places. When flying to the nearest desert this is negligible, but for longer distances it can be preferable to build afk methods of transport. There's three ways I can see of bridging the gap:
    Making AFK transport faster
Minecarts travel at 8m/s, however with piston bolts traveling at 20m/s with no issues, I think the speed of minecarts can be buffed to 20m/s. Likewise, ice boats can be made fully AFKable by having a button that has you move forward without holding W (like an auto walk). If this were done, ice boats could be kept at 40m/s as the resources to build an ice road are more expensive than rails.
    Making AFK transport cheaper
If minecarts can't be sped up, rails can be made cheaper, or minecarts can go further without the need for powered rails (ie a craft of rails getting 64 instead of 16 per go, or minecarts being able to go 100 blocks between powered rails instead of 36)
    Making elytras require infrastructure
This could either be nerfing rockets and implementing a system where you can build objects you fly through to get a speed boost, or having those objects repair the elytra. Essentially, to fly long distances, you have to build stuff, but to fly short distances you do not need such infrastructure

I agree with most of this, though I also believe that other transportation methods should get some kind of niche so instead of being the end all for player transport you'd have different tools for different situations.
At least minecarts should get their own niche as a type of item transport. We already use them to gather materials from farms into sorting systems so we could expand on that to make it easier for them to transport a lot of resources automatically over large distances. Which is what trains are used for in real life anyways and would give a good reason to make the infrastructure even without an increase in cart speed.

Flying should consume food, lots of it, in such a way where it isn't reliable to fly long distances unless you're carrying several stacks of it, this way long distance hauling from one place to another wouldn't be viable using Elytras, bus would be preferable to use other means such as boats or minecarts.

There are, in fact, pros and cons to the existing elytra versus other forms of transit.
    Ender Pearls:
    Pros- Skips over difficult terrain.
Cons- Requires precise aim. Uses valuable inventory space. Damages the player.
    Horse:
Pros- Can account for changes in terrain. Affected by potions.
Cons- Depends on keeping a living mob alive. Does not work over water, steep hills, or chasms.
    Bubble Elevators:
Pros- Incredibly fast. Can be of any length. Allows AFK travel.
Cons- Requires a small amount of setup time and resources. Only works between vertical locations.
    Minecart:
Pros- Dependable, difficult to interfere with. Can basically go anywhere. Works in tiny spaces. Allows AFK travel.
Cons- Requires setup time and resources. Only works between set locations.
    Boat/Ice Highways:
Pros- Ludicrously fast. Works in tiny spaces.
Cons- Requires setup time and difficult-to-get resources. Cannot change depth levels. Only works between set locations.
    Elytra:
Pros- Fast. Can easily change directions on the fly.
Cons- Requires aim. Difficult to use anywhere that doesn't have a large amount of open space. Damages the player if they're not careful. Uses valuable inventory space.
The elytra works well when travelling between open locations in the Overworld or the End. It doesn't work very well in caves, the Nether, forests, small spaces, places with open hazards, places with poor visibility, or anywhere else like that. It's fast and adaptable, but unless you have ridiculous reflexes, large open distances are the only places where it's practical.

Honestly I'm in favour for buffs, like stackable potions so you can have 16 speed duration potions so you get a good hour of boost for a single inventory slot given you set up the farms.
Increasing the speed of minecarts and yeah Letting boats climb up blocks, even if it's only a half block at a time, I do definitely think the rockets are overtuned though.
The elytra was still really worth it on release and actually encouraged building around it be it watch towers with fast elevators or vertical tnt canons.

It's honestly the only reason I play the game for any amount of time at this point. Flying is really really fun and it's cool to have an incentive to build a mob farm for gunpowder. I think minecarts could be better, but they are also very practical for redstone and generally moving around mobs, so it's hard to claim they have been power crept. Horses and boats are available very early on at little to no cost. If any transport option deserves a buff, it's the pig, tbh. It also wouldn't hurt to add some sort of ground that buffs the speed of anything walking on it, as that could make building roads for horses/pigs a way to allow them high speed.

Back when I started playing minecraft before the introduction of Elytras I thought how weird it was for a game so similiar to terraria not to have the same kind of movement equipments, so when Mojang finally added them it just seemed normal. In Terraria you have access to wings since the second half of the game ("Early hard mode") and the wings themselves are very balanced because there are many different types of them with unique quirks (like being able to glide rather than "flying upward", or being slower but reaching longer distances) and because alternative modes of transportation, like teleporters or mounts all have their own unique benefits (and downsides) to them. If Minecraft implemented a similiar system (I.E. adding a flying mount that would free you from the necessity of renouncing a breastplate) the meta would be much more open to competition

In the server I'm in we're still planning on building a railway system for the same reason we build gardens and zoos and cities and cathedrals, it isn't necessary but it is useful for creative expression.
