This game is a real masterpiece! I really like how you can only save a finite amount of times. At first I was pretty annoyed by this. "What, you can't save whenever you want? This is so stupid!" But then I realized the genius of it. Not being able to save as you wish makes you mortal. Because you may only have one save left, you really think about if you want to use it already or if you don't want to go check out this one room you haven't looked into so you can save after that. Because dying means you'll have to replay a bunch of the game since your last save, it keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I thinknits good but you shouldn't be able to run out. Makes 3 or 4 hours at a time the standard and if you die your time is qastes. Ink ribbons are good but you should be given an abundance so you dont run out
@@cbandit7715 Then whats the point of having Ink Ribbons if you don't run out. If people want to be a wimp and play Resi HD without losing Ribbons, play Very Easy mode.
I got it for free last month on psplus. This game's scares hold up really well. Honestly why did they ever change from survival horror to action I will never know why.
They said they wanted to appeal to the fast action, FPS action fans. They completely switched formulas when call of duty was booming and they wanted that COD money..thats the real reason, and unfortunately it WORKED! if im not mistaken RE5 is the biggest selling RE game ever. Im just glad they are taking it back to their roots!
When you play 5 games with the same mechanics, as great as they are, it gets old. Look at all the flak Call of Duty gets or more recently, Assassin's Creed (even though they add and change mechanics quite rigorously with every new game). The change brought by RE4 was needed in the same way the change in VII was needed. Splinter Cell as well, after 5 games (including both versions of Double Agent), the mechanics was getting stale, even if the gameplay loop was still satisfying. Conviction was needed to inject new blood into the series.
One cool touch about the Resident Evil HD Remake is the fact that they let you use Jill and Chris' outfits from the Lost in Nightmares subplot from RE5. That made me soooooo happy! Such an awesome little addition.
ViciousBane 56 I don’t know. I’m part of the Team Silent fanboy club. If they’re not part of it then I don’t want it. Every game after 4 was highly disappointing, so I’m not sure who more can handle the franchise.
Whit Baez I’m sure he could. I would like to see it though. Silent Hills looked hyper promising, and certainly would have shut me up. I hope it gets picked up, but I’m not going to give it the half-life 3 treatment and wait for something that won’t come.
every PlayStation owner must download this game now. PS Plus giving this game for free. it will only last a day or two max. the graphics in the game look amazing. go download it
Excellent review on this Chris. Its really refreshing to actual see a review on a game and not only be very unbiased about the platforms its currently on but to not make an issue of certain limitations on the those certain platforms its available on as well. If you really want all the techno jargon and nitpick at technical details than go bother with some gaming website. For the rest enjoy a simple down to earth review with a gamer that's passionate about the games he plays.
I totally agree with you! What a great game... I don't get it why Capcom decided to change the direction of the franchise so drastically. I like RE4, it's a great game, but it's not RE anymore. Rumors are, that they are thinking about a RE2 remake, if the first one is selling well. I bought RE2 for my N64 for 200£ lol, so I definitely would buy a RE2 remake.
Great review Chris! I'm 21, So I was a little young when it came out so never played it, Might check it out now, Hey Chris your videogame reviews are the reason I started RUclips man! and why I aim for high quality! Your the best!
That's really hard to answer, as Resident Evil has changed so much through the years, making them essentially entirely different games. As for the oldschool games, my favorite is the Gamecube remake of the first (will more than likely be the HD one once I play it.) As for the action oriented ones, I'll pick what only I seem to like and say Resident Evil 6.
I just bought it for 5 bucks right now. My wife was just talking about it and her experience, so thank you Chris. I'm sold. And this game really is the first time I really got scared and saw games differently after that. One of the best games ever made.
I love how REmake and RE4 are like the pinnacle of RE series.. REmake is as perfect as it could get in terms of horror and RE4 is as good as it could get in terms of action adventure. Capcom just can't top these 2 games.
I know this is an old comment but you hit the nail right on the head. RE4 and the RE1 remake are both masterpieces for different reasons. They are my two favorites in the series with RE2 coming at 3rd place.
such a shame resident evil has gone to shit. This game is the perfect definition of survival horror. I really hope the re2 remake will be as good as this
REmake is one of the perfect survivor-horror games that has ever been released. Too bad Crapcom completely trashed the series by turning it into a shooter game with michael bay-esque explosion effects.
they have to or else the series would've been stale and boring as it continues. people would've been bitching how copy paste the game would be, like it's a CoD type of Survival Horror game and not try to change anything (just look at the previous RE games right until Code Veronica X, it's been the same copy paste with improve graphics, that's all).
***** So your logic is that if the gameplay stayed the same, people would've eventually bitched about it? False. Games like Mario and Legend of Zelda's core gameplay mechanics stayed the same and people and fans still enjoyed it. RE games would've been fine, but now it's nothing more than action adventure game for call of duty fanboys with short attention span.
MyLostTemple apparently you failed to understand between copy paste game with a game that has the same core mechanics. yeah, Mario relatively has the same core mechanics but does Galaxy plays exactly like the rest of other Mario game? if you say it is, then you obviously didn't play Mario game. that can be said with Zelda as well. having the same core mechanics and tweak/improve it is different. RE games from the first game up until Code Veronica X which include spin-off like Outbreak, it has nothing but the same over and over again. same model with different texture, same monster with different texture. the only thing different was RE3, because that's the only game where the main character, Jill, can evade which gives her own identity for the character and also Nemesis which clearly different than the same copy paste Tyrant/Mr. X/Birkin in RE1, RE2 and Code Veronica X. it's not my logic but it's a fact. you sounded like you don't even play games that much.
***** Hahaha, that is the biggest crock of horseshit I've ever read. You sound like a moron who has no idea what you are talking about and just pulling every single shit out of your ass. Your logic of whole "copy & paste" argument is not only stupid, but also ridiculous. Admit it, you've never played any of the old, classic RE games to spew "they are all copy and paste". Idiot kids like you are the reason why capcom had to change the entire gameplay mechanic of RE, just to make money. At this rate, I'm just hoping Capcom just bringing in back the old classic RE games like RE0 and remake them as HD. Because half of the "fan-base" gets their jimmies rustled without action and explosions.
Hey Chris. Just want to say that I love your videos and I have been a fan since I first subscribed to your channel back in 2014. Btw, the long awaited Fantastic Four trailer just came out and the opinion about this movie has been really diversed among fans knowing that Fox tried to "reimagine" the Fantastic Four. So would you mind making a video to share your thoughts about the trailer and about the reboot in general? Thanks man. Have a great day!
Im glad I played Resident Evil 5 and 6 first before I played any of the older games. It shows me people hate on those too much and they are actually fun games. It might've skewed my view. But I am playing the remake now and liking it. Some of the fans can't adjust I guess. Would be nice though to see Resident Evil 7 go a little scarier but 5 and 6 were satisfying.
My favorite game of the franchise is resident evil 3 nemesis, but i have to admit that the resident evil 6 game has the best and most exciting plot of them all for me.
I watched my brother play RE3 when back when on the PS1 and I caught up with RE4 back when that released with having a small amount of experience with Code Veronica. I love the classics but I've prefer the controls and camera of the newer games. RE5 still stands as my favorite since RE6 did go a little too fast and action-y and I will always hate RE4 for making me take care of Ashley... every single play through I had to wear the gangster and suit of armor outfits so I could enjoy the game more.
I could never get into the first few Resident Evil games. I love the atmosphere, but my god the tank controls, camera view, and save system were god awful. It may have been great at the time, but as a gamer who missed out on that generation of games (went from 2D games on the Super Nintendo to the PS2), I could never get by the archaic game design,
I would love to see you do a review of Resident Evil Revelations 2. I just finished playing that through, and it definitely gives me conflicting feelings, and it seems that way for many critics as well. The gameplay was tight and fun, and the two characters working together the whole time with different traits was really genius at times, and the story was thrilling. But the graphics looked really dated (I don't know why they made it like that because it's really obvious), there are a few too many boring/dry sections, and some of the enemy designs were pretty lackluster (but not the final boss. That shit was creeeeepy!) What are everyone else's thoughts on Revelations 2?
Loved the original back in '96. Loved the remake when it hit the GC in '02 and loved this HD upgrade. RE is one of the greatest games ever. Played this through twice back to back, once as Jill and then as Chris. Worth every penny of the £16 it cost - especially as I know it's a game I will happily return to again and again. I doubt if it would ever happen but I would love to see this kind of remake done to RE 2 & 3.
I've recently purchased this game and to me it's actually terrifyingly scary and funny. I'm really enjoying the game. On a side note I had no clue about the Crimson Heads. I actually played a couple hours in without even finding the note about burning their bodies, and unfortunately four of them came at me haha. Very good game here.
Another thing I love about the older REs is the fixed camera with the gorgeous pre-rendered backgrounds. It makes for a cinematic feel like the creators really have something to show you in terms of the puzzle solving. It's always terrifying when pop over to the next screen and you realize you've just run into a zombie and don't have your shotgun equipped at the moment, so you're screwed. Even worse with the hunters.
Just saw this game on my XBOX Live account and definitely plan to buy it seeing as I am a major fan of the original from the Playstation. Can't wait to check it out and hope to see them coming out with revamped versions of RE 2 & Nemesis. Also want to get a PS4, because I'm a PS child all day. Thanks for the review Chris!
I'll have to agree highly. my eyes were also very happy to see every single detail playing this game all over again. its crazy how this game that is 12-13years old and still lives up to todays standards.
100% agree with this rating. This game is so good. RE1 remake is my favorite Resident Evil game and one of my top favorite games of all time. The atmosphere of the game, the tone, it just has that perfect creepy element about it. It’s 2022 writing this comment and the game definitely still holds up.
I am glad for this review I felt the same way about Evil Within. Even though people disliked. What I love about Resident Evil One and 4 is why I love Evil Within.
As an avid Resident Evil fan since the 1st one baby lol. I have to say this updated version is awesome! The visuals, the new jump scares that I was not expecting. I know this is just an HD version from the 2002 Gamecube version, but hands down this is worth the 20.00 they ask for. I would hope that one day Capcom jumps on the bandwagon and remakes Resident Evil 2.
Still the best resi by far imo. Loved the original and resi 2 but the resi 1 remake was damn near perfection. This is how remakes are supposed to be done. The remaster is great for those who never played the gamecube classic.
I love this game! I missed out on RE1, so RE2 is the first one I played and is my favorite probably just due to nostalgia, but this one is a close second. I did however catch the game on gamecube and played it until the cube broke. I love how they just touched up the game a bit and hope they can do this for RE2. I've thought the newer action REs are just ok. The older REs that are hard where you have to conserve ammo, health, and even saves are where it's at.
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but you can get a physical copy on the ps3 there the Hong Kong release that is in english and even has reversible cover slip that includes the RE/Biohazard covers. You can get one on new on ebay for around $45. Not sure if that interests you but you seem to enjoy physical items. Great videos btw.
Original Alone in the Dark on PC DOS from 1992 is a father to them all. By the the way i wonder if Chris is aware that his Gamecube Resident Evil is not an original. I played original Resident Evil on Playstation back in 1996.
Oh man. I'm a huge Resident Evil fan myself. This game still gives me so many memories. No other game compare to that and theres no other game that i've completed multiple times. My dream is to build exact mansion as in resident evil 1 :D
This game is thing of beauty. It seriously could have been made today on current gen systems and it wouldn't look out of place. Roll on the Resident Evil 2 remake (hopefully!)
Chris, you better talk about Trigun and Outlaw Star on that Toonami video, I've been wanting to hear your opinions on those two for a while since you loved Cowboy Bebop so much
Great game. Originally I didn't play the N64 version but I did play in on the PS1 back in 95 or 96 when it came out. I probably finished the PS1 version 6 times and likely the same for RE2 and RE3. That said the HD version was great since it changed the game enough that it felt new in many respects. I also enjoyed the new control scheme too. WESKER!!!
Best RE ever. Capcom have never quite managed to top the atmosphere of this one. The police station from 2 was amazing too, but the isolated feeling of that mansion hasn't been beaten.
What a game. camera angle is the key. So much intensity. Playing alone in cold dark nights in foggy winters with sound track and gameplay is not for weak hearts. Jill Valentine kicks ass here
I’ve had a crave for horror games all day today, so I searched Resident Evil on PS Store... and it’s actually cut down to $5.00! Definitely gonna buy it, ‘cause I‘be always wanted to properly experience what started the franchise.
Love this game and you're right it still gives ya chills! 10/10 is a good review but, the price makes it need to score higher but of course can't. Btw nice 1980's Godzilla remake on the video.
Maybe I missed it but I would love to see your RE2 review if you've played it I am a huge fan myself. I have the Umbrella logo tattooed on my arm with "Test Subject 1974" written above / underneath it
Does anybody really prefer playing as Chris over Jill? Btw,I've played the original PS1 version, but still haven't played the remake,so i'll definitely be getting this soon.
On videos it seems Capcom didn't or couldn't (??) get rid of the lag when running into a new background, as if the game was still loading it. Is it really still there? It seriously bothered me even on the Gamecube.
I only played the original for Playstation, but I was just a dumb little kid back then and only played it to shoot "teh zumbies". I think it would be cool to revisit it now as an adult and see it from a more mature perspective.
I remember playing this when I was young - I have one question Does it still have the dogs jumping through the window? Man that made me jump and still does lol
Stealth game?! Agree! Im aiming for the platinium trophy for this game, so some of the challenges for it are beating the game in 5 o 3 hours (to get the rocket luncher) so its mandatory to avoid as many enemys as posible in order to save time and of course your ammo.
Hey Chris! When I start playing Resident Evil for the 1st time, is there a chronological order to play the games in or can I just start on any one? Btw, I really enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work!
I would give it a 9.7/10 simply because while the mansion and over 90% of the game has been enhanced and look incredibly sharp there are areas in the game that doesn't shine quite as bright. One area that i noticed was the control room after running past the sharks. Immediately the room image looked like it had allot more compression compared the others which have gotten an amazing work done to them. Gametrailers.com also mentioned the caverns area in their review and i can agree on some parts there, but for me the control room and the area with the ladder outside the control room looks the most compressed in my opinion. This "could" potentially be a very small update that capcom could do something about, release a patch with a few sharpened backgrounds, but i doubt it. In any case its something very minor and doesn't do anything dampen the experience. This is an amazing remastering of an amazing game. I loved playing this game again and i love that i now have this game on my computer in HD. Anyone who loves survival horror and puzzle games will really enjoy this game.
Played it a few days ago and just like the first time I played this game it puts me on edge. This game certainly has stood the test of time. They really need to remake Resi 2.
Aaaaahhh finally man I want to play it NOW...I do have the Gamecube version but I'm missing disc one...fuck Resident Evil 6 was such a pain in the ass, but I did like Leon and Ada stories
Not sure why, but for whatever reason the audio is a tad out of sync during the last minute. Sorry about that guys! Thanks for watching as always.
I love your new retro gaming intro
Keep up the great videos!
Not sure why you think you know about games, you know nothing of RE
Didn't even notice it before you mentioned it. Btw love your reviews.
What do you think of "The Evil Within"?
Stones T Doesn't collecting N64 games, including some rare ones, mean anything?
That was too close. You were almost a Jill sandwhich!

That Video Game intro... just... Byoutiful
LOVE LOVE LOVE the new intro!!!
I don't know about psychological..but everything else you said i agree with.
Is the goofy voice-acting still present?? That was always one of my favorite parts of the original.
Not really goofy but still awkward
I am glad for this review I felt the same way about Evil Within. Even though people disliked. What I love about Resident Evil One and 4 is why I love Evil Within.
New intro hype
I Love This Remaster *Chris*
You sir, are awesome for this review.
Loved the original, and I would like to play this one!
I love the Survival Horror side of Res Evil, made you think not just blow shit up
Original Alone in the Dark on PC DOS from 1992 is a father to them all. By the the way i wonder if Chris is aware that his Gamecube Resident Evil is not an original. I played original Resident Evil on Playstation back in 1996.
Cool intro and awesome review.
I really loved this HD Remaster!!! Probably the best 2015 January release in gaming (don't know about Dying Light)
I give it a 9/10
You gotta play Chris it’s a entire new experience. Slightly tougher but good.
What a game. camera angle is the key. So much intensity. Playing alone in cold dark nights in foggy winters with sound track and gameplay is not for weak hearts. Jill Valentine kicks ass here
this game is a freakin master piece. I bought on the xbox one. and always come back to it to finish the game one more time
Abraham Guajardo should try the mode with all the zombies invisible.
I’ve had a crave for horror games all day today, so I searched Resident Evil on PS Store... and it’s actually cut down to $5.00!
Definitely gonna buy it, ‘cause I‘be always wanted to properly experience what started the franchise.
This was my first playstation game I ever owned. I'm with you man I loved this game.
Love that Gaming intro!
Love this game and you're right it still gives ya chills! 10/10 is a good review but, the price makes it need to score higher but of course can't.
Btw nice 1980's Godzilla remake on the video.
Chris needs to do walkthrough/playthrough
That intro is awesome! :)
New intro!! Awesome!!
Maybe I missed it but I would love to see your RE2 review if you've played it
I am a huge fan myself. I have the Umbrella logo tattooed on my arm with "Test Subject 1974" written above / underneath it
Does anybody really prefer playing as Chris over Jill? Btw,I've played the original PS1 version, but still haven't played the remake,so i'll definitely be getting this soon.
Love the intro!
Have ya played it?
Awesome intro chris
On videos it seems Capcom didn't or couldn't (??) get rid of the lag when running into a new background, as if the game was still loading it.
Is it really still there? It seriously bothered me even on the Gamecube.
I decided to play Resident Evil HD recently and I'm addicted to playing it.
Love the new Gaming intro! total nostalgia!
I only played the original for Playstation, but I was just a dumb little kid back then and only played it to shoot "teh zumbies". I think it would be cool to revisit it now as an adult and see it from a more mature perspective.
Would love to see reviews on some other RE games!
I feel like giving movies a rating out of ten makes more sense than with videogames.
Great vide doe
I remember playing this when I was young - I have one question
Does it still have the dogs jumping through the window? Man that made me jump and still does lol
That's an iconic moment in the RE franchise, so I seriously doubt they would remove it.
Yep, still there! Haha
agree, that part made me cry like a little girl :D
What are the best control options for the game?
Stealth game?! Agree! Im aiming for the platinium trophy for this game, so some of the challenges for it are beating the game in 5 o 3 hours (to get the rocket luncher) so its mandatory to avoid as many enemys as posible in order to save time and of course your ammo.
Hey Chris! When I start playing Resident Evil for the 1st time, is there a chronological order to play the games in or can I just start on any one? Btw, I really enjoy your videos! Keep up the good work!
Resi 4 might be my favourite. Perfect blend of horror and action. Pure badassery.
Chris, you play Silent Hill 2. The greatest Horror game, it has an amazing story.
Anyone who loves survival horror and puzzle games will really enjoy this game.
love the shirt
Played it a few days ago and just like the first time I played this game it puts me on edge. This game certainly has stood the test of time. They really need to remake Resi 2.
I could never beat this game years ago. Maybe i'll buy the HD version and try again
Love this game.
That intro, A+
Aaaaahhh finally man I want to play it NOW...I do have the Gamecube version but I'm missing disc one...fuck Resident Evil 6 was such a pain in the ass, but I did like Leon and Ada stories
I bought it for 4.99 last month, very worth invested
10/10 - I'm so happy they released the HD edition!
Great review
Man, that's a kickass intro.
