    I can relate to this soo much. I’ve been meditating almost every day for the past 6 years (the same length of time that I’ve experienced chronic fatigue - which eventually developed into M.E./CFS 2.5 years ago after struggling at university), and although I often experience benefits straight after meditation, it’s never been enough to reduce my overall stress levels and for me to notice the benefits trickle through in my every day life, and I have always felt this has much to do with the environment I’ve been in not being right for me. I’ve always felt chronically stressed living in the UK, even through my school years and also experienced mild health symptoms back then, but this feeling has been the norm for me. It’s not until I’ve experienced being abroad for long periods of time (the US, Chile, Germany) that I’ve experienced being a healthy and relaxed person. I’ve never been able to explain why this is and so have tried to force a fulfilling life in the UK, by going out and meeting people, dabbling in all sorts of activities at Uni, getting out in nature, practising spirituality, healthy eating exercise etc etc, but I’ve always been so stressed when doing these things, so I’ve experienced so much thinking along the lines of: what’s wrong with me? Why can’t I have healthy relationships, or enjoy my course at university, or ever relax? But I understand my experience and struggles have been a result of an overly stimulated nervous system which those around me haven’t been able to understand and I tend to put up a wall pretending that everything is fine. Ive tried tirelessly to relax my nervous system and improve my life through meditation and leading a “healthy lifestyle”. But I think removing myself from high-pressure environments has always been the key for me. Anyway this was a bit of an essay. Thank you so much for sharing yet another great recovery story Raelan! Your kindness and enthusiasm helps so many of us. And Sam thanks for sharing your story. I’m going to reach out to you! Blessings to all 🙏

    I just wanted to comment here to say I recently completed Sam's 4 day Vedic meditation course after 18 months living with Long Covid. This course is 100% worth the time and money. I had been struggling with intense fatigue, joint pain and struggled to surrender to the situation to allow my body to heal. In just 10 days, I have been getting to sleep much easier and having deep sleep (around 9 hours a night!), I have experienced consecutive days of no pain and I feel much calmer about the situation. Sam is extremely kind, gentle and very knowledgable. He genuinely cares for your health and well-being and is invested in sharing this meditation to as many people as possible in the most accessible way as possible.
    I had tried many types of meditation before and this is by far my favourite. Wishing you all well.

      What type of meditation is it, and about how long does it take? I was doing Joe Dispenza's type of meditation for awhile. It was helping w/ acute depression and grief, to help calm the mind chatter while I did it. It didn't cause any real healthy changes over months.

    Update: So I actually went a learned meditation with Sam at Soma Meditation and it was brilliant! Feeling good and optimistic and for once, I feel that I will eventually overcome anxious living with the Vedic method.
    Really loved this. Thank you Raelan! Sam's story speaks to me. I also was on a carrot only diet for a few months when I stopped digesting food, and I am an empath. Switching off the world has been the only thing that has helped me calm down. I am meditating daily and feel the benefits, but I am struggling to get a robust nervous system still. I have been happily and humbly reminded that I am a beginner at meditation and over the years I hope to see the 'light expand'. I cant wait for Part II!! Much love to both of you.

    I think there are (at least) 4 big groups in the ME/CFS world.
    1 - People that started with "post viral fatigue" or a "viral like" illness -- probably, viral persistance and/or mitochondrial disease
    2 - People that started with bacterial, parasitic infections or fungi exposure (food poisoning, mould, all that jazz) -- similar to point 1, persistent bad guys in your system.
    3 - Fight / Flight / Freeze - central neuro system issues. People that progressively got worse with time due to continuous stress exposure and lack of learning good mechanisms to deal with it (childhood trauma or neglect could be present here). Also there are cases of 1 big traumatic event triggering ME/CFS (car accident, sexual abuse, etc ...)
    4 - And here are the ones that usually think - "how is that everyone but me recovers?" - yep, I am talking about people that has ALL the issues mentioned from 1 to 3. Some of them may not even know that they have bad pathogens in their body! The lack of comprehensive testing, lack of Doctor's knowledge...
    Unfortunately I know that I am part of the latest group. I've had Covid, food poisoning (twice), bad bacteria found in my gut, parasites found in my gut, several rounds of antibiotics, several bouts of trauma, PCOS, good lord!
    But I am doing SO much better since I started working with holistic programmes and doctors. It's time and money consuming, very few folks know how it's like but... it worths it. Don't give up.
    I am sharing this as I've read below someone hesitant to believe that this guy had ME/CFS. What I believe, is that probably we have the genetic predisposition for it, but some unlucky ones catched all the bugs that were flying out there along the journey 😂😂 so we may need some extra help!
    I believe in the power of the mind, I meditate, etc - but I know that anti bacterial, anti fungal and antivirals may be a key part of some of you guys. Keep researching!
    Tons of love x

      Thank you for all of this detail, I think it’s very important. What I can say is that I constantly got unwell through my life, I seemed to catch everything! Since meditation (I know I keep banging on) I had only one case of “the man flu” (my fiancée calls it) in 3.5 years. No sore throats or coughs or anything. It’s almost like my immune system started working correctly. I remember in 2019 there was a big flu that wiped everyone out in the office for 2 weeks, I was the only one in the office. I had it, but my immune system was on top of it.

      @Hello It's K thanks for your message. This isn’t mindfulness. Mindfulness is a benefit of meditation. What I am saying is give your body the best chance to heal, help it go into parasympathetic more often by allowing the body to go into some deep rest. Of course this isn’t going to work for everyone by itself, but it’s an important ingredient in a wellness strategy. It directly works with your central nervous system.

    I recently started a pretty intensive meditation practice and it is definitely helping me (w/ both ME/CFS and histamine intolerance). I had experimented here and there with meditation in the past, but would give up after just one or two sittings because I felt like I sucked at it and so it must not be doing any good. The game changer for me was when I heard that EVERYONE sucks at meditation for the first year or so. You just keep doing it. The crazy thing is that I'm getting such immediate and obvious results DESPITE the fact that my mind usually wanders most of the time. (Sometimes almost the entire time, lol.) I do meditate a lot, though. Four hours per day ideally. But sometimes much less, so don't let that discourage you from giving it a shot. Love to you all. Thank you so much Sam for sharing your story, it resonates so very much with me being a highly "sensitive" person and highly empathic and it's the thing that I'm gradually figuring out is needing most attention for me to get better. It especially resonated with me when you said you had flown to Miami to find out more about he Methylation Cycle , as this is the sort of thing I get caught up in too, and yet I need to look in the other direction for the answers as the body can take care of that when in the right state. I have just done Dan Neuffers course on brain retraining, but haven't yet hit the nail on the head. Raelan's channel has been super helpful. Any more hints on dealing with the empathy and setting boundaries would be helpful, as it's only recently I've realised I'm picking up on all that extra stimulus and taking it on board as my problem and reality. I also see that not everyone commenting here really listened to your story, which is frustrating, but you handled that well ;)

    For lack of a better word,
    brilliant.
    Not only do we hold on to things from our own life, but from so many past generations. And such kind of things are embedded very deep within. Meditation helps one to let go of all that, but slowly, very slowly. So, one needs to give it time, not do it like a university degree.
    It is such a blessing that you found it, Sam ❤️
    Love and strength to you, so you can pass it on to many more 🙏

    I came across this vid today as I'm approaching my SIBO issues and learning about methylation and genetic issues (i just ordered books about em a week ago). I've had CFS for 4 years and I've been doing SIBO herbal protocol for a month now. As Sam said, I've been feeling a bit worse in the past one month idk if that's Hexheimer reaction or die offs from herbs (oregano, berberine, allicin etc) but my mindset was "ok this feels quite bad, but im willing to do this for another month". This interview got me on the fence about my protocol. I'm already getting 20 percent less energy due to the protocol, and not even sure if this thing's gonna get me through fatigue.
    I'm already a yoga person, I personally find it really helpful and I think I still have energy to at least go do things around the house thanks to yoga, but I really wanna give the soma meditation a try!
    Do yall think if I should continue with sibo protocol? might be still beneficial....I wanted to hear if the protocol Sam was doing contributed to his recovery, maybe in the next interview

      Hey, I came off all protocols, I just didn’t feel like they were working or something was missing. I had a healthy diet, no processed foods etc. That doesn’t mean it won’t work for you, but I tried it for months and it wasn’t for me. I always think it’s worth giving enough time for something to work. If it doesn’t, at least you know you gave it your best and you can move on to something else. Meditation is what did it for me. Hello, meditation played a big part in my recovery and without it, I don’t think I’d be where I am today. It opened me up to the way that I think (who is actually inside the mind). I became happier and so much calmer inside. It helped me massively with the stress in my life, this isn’t an overnight fix. Just by meditating, it helped me become more conscious about how I lived my life. Which lead me to make better choices along my healing journey. There was no question about my diagnosis, believe me, I didn’t want it to be true, because I’ve seen what it did to my mother and grandmother. Above all, it helped me feel safe and from that point my health started to increase. For me it was an integral ingredient in my recovery process. I hope this helps to clarify a little. This was not a quick fix. There will always be situations where meditation won’t be enough by itself. There are things you can do in conjunction.

It was really interesting about struggling to learn and retain information...I've always struggled with this.. somehow I managed to fumble through education and career despite this but I never put 2 and 2 together!!! Did you say it was the meditation that changed this for you? Or was it just that you could relate to the subject matter and still struggle with other learning etc? 🤔

    • @soma-meditation
      @soma-meditation 2 года назад +1

      Hi Karen, yes meditation was that pivot point. Basically if we are under stress and our sympathetic nervous system is constantly being stimulated, our pre-frontal cortex (thinking and creativity) is inhibited because the blood flow is being redirected to our limbic system (amygdala/ stress response). Meditation helped me feel safe more and more often, my amygdala didn’t think I was being chased by a leopard. Which means so many functions come back on line. Hope this helps.

      Thank you for the explanation.. its really helpful. I have noticed my brain fog has been clearing but didn't realise that the meditation I do will be helping with that! I'm not sure I'd be able to learn something new just yet but now I have hope for the future 🙏

      You can heal. It's not so hard. You should detox your body. Mainly your liver and gut. Example: Coffee enema for liver and fermented food for gut health...
      Some people see benefit from high dosis vitamin C.

    Yet another story of someone going off to college and getting sick. It's the moldy housing that is causing this illness. Lowering our stress tolerance, making us believe the stress is at fault. He "did well at the gym" but not in his dorm, hmm.... And changing his environment led to his recovery. Is this becoming obvious yet? University isn't stressful enough to cause this!

    • @soma-meditation
      @soma-meditation 2 года назад +1

      I actually did university from home, no dorms for me. Worked full time and did university in my evenings and weekends. I also had mold on my bedroom wall in a house I lived in for 12 years. I started looking into mycotoxins later (after my recovery took a huge step in the right direction), as a friend mentioned it. I looked at Dave Asprey, the majority of the diet I was already doing. During the worst parts I moved around a lot, too. So for my own experience mold wasn’t the factor, it might not have helped, but wasn’t the main factor. Depends on someone’s ability to detoxify those mycotoxins. What we Absolutely do know is that stress plays a huge part in many illnesses.

    • @ratfacekick
      @ratfacekick 2 года назад

      @@soma-meditation Thanks for the clarification, but Dave Asprey is not an expert on the subject. It doesnt come from foods. You just told me there was mold in your house, which most people dont even notice because its inside walls and behind ceilings most often. It took me 15 years in my childhood home to develop full blown cfs, so you moving before the illness was not a requirement, I concede on the dorm point. However moving during the illness was a requirement to get away from the poison and to recover. You just confirmed you did that. No amount of meditation cures this illness while trapped in a water damaged environment.

      @@ratfacekick all I can give you is my own experience. I moved to 4 different houses around London after the mold house and my symptoms got a lot worse. My mum actually recovered from CFS in that moldy house. Mold could be in almost every home these days…
      My mind changed, I changed, the way I experience life has completely changed, stress doesn’t affect me like it used to. The way I respond and react to everything, I feel safe and calm throughout my day, which is something I’d never experienced. That’s what changed for me.
      Along the way perhaps my body became better at removing toxins from mold. The effect of learning meditation and practicing it everyday was way too significant and impactful. It eventually brings a level of balance back into the body, so the body has a chance to heal. As always it takes time.

    • @ratfacekick
      @ratfacekick 2 года назад

      @@soma-meditation I think what you did is pretty awesome actually, I don't want to downplay the importance of calm and balance. But I believe it was a tool and not the cause of the illness. Being stressed is hugely common, and few get cfs. Most cfs people are unusually calm given their circumstances. I think it's fair to say that one must address both
