  • This is going to catch on. NOVOCADO SMASH. I think it’s a massive upgrade on Avocado smash, let me know what you think in the comments. More protein, more fibre, more plant points.
    Thank you to over 200 of you who asked me for this recipe!! Wow! 🤩
    So, as the name suggests, this fantastic smash is actually avocado free.
    Recipe below with nutritional breakdown:
    🥑 It looks like avocado smash.
    🥑 It tastes like avocado smash.
    🥑 It has the texture of avocado smash
    🥑 It has more protein than avocado smash
    Per serve:
    101kcals
    7g fibre
    6g protein
    Lots of people cannot eat avocado because they are allergic sensitive, histamines or upset their digestion so this is a great alternative.
    But because this recipe is also higher in protein and fibre and regular avocado, smash, so it’s definitely worth the upgrade.
    What I discovered while making this was:
    1. Peas taste too much like peas, and chickpeas taste too much like hummus, but when you combine them they take on the texture of avocado. You need the chickpeas to make it creamy and soft.
    2. Before you ask, I did try this with Edamame beans, but it honestly just looked like grey tasteless hummus. The peas are needed to give it a vibrant green colour.
    3. The garlic is optional, but lifts the flavour level.
    Recipe, serves 4
    150 g frozen peas. To defrost pour boiling water over them in a cup and wait a few minutes. Simples.
    I tin or around 250 g chickpeas, washed and drained
    2 to 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice or bottled Sicilian lemon juice.
    Half a teaspoon of salt and pepper.
    Optional 1 small clove garlic
    Pinch of chilli flakes
    Combine all the ingredients together in a food processor until smooth and creamy. Adjust flavours to taste- I might have added a little more lemon in the end.
    I rubbed my sourdough toast with a raw garlic clove and drizzled it with extra-virgin olive oil. I then topped it with the special. Novocado smash. Each portion contains 6.5g of protein, but I would still add a little extra.
    Why don’t you try topping it with one of the following;
    -Two poached eggs
    - Crispy spicy tofu
    - Feta cheese?
    - Mini Parmesan balls
    - Spicy chickpeas

    So what's wrong with avocado smash itself? Avocado has way more benefits than peas. Protein is important but so is fat. Especially coming from avocados. Unless you want a totally different dish but then why do you feel the need to call it novocado?

      There is nothing wrong nutritionally about avocados but from a carbon footprint point of view they are pretty rubbish, which Is why I am going to be trying out this recipe for sure. Thanks for living wisely Dominique!
