    It's lovely to see how versatile your patterns are. It helps us beginners who find it a little hard to visualise how a dress will look in different fabrics and the different versions of the pattern. I would like to see your Betty dress collection. Thanks for the vlogs they're really helpful.

      +Tracy Charalambous So pleased - that is what I hoped would be the outcome - I know it is hard to visualise fabrics etc when you are just starting to dressmake!

    Great shift dress collection! It is my favorite kind of a dress, though most of people around me prefer a fit and flare dress (I also love the Betty dress). It would be lovely to see your collection for each pattern. Looking forward for the next video.

    I love the concept of this video. Showing multiple makes of the same pattern in, "real life" does far more to illustrate a pattern's versatility than any other method of explanation.
    If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a RUclips video must be worth 500,000 words!
    And of course, your beauty and elegance only enhance the loveliness of your makes.
    I think it would be a great idea to have tutorial(s) whereby you demonstrate how to shorten this pattern to the shirt length, AND the more a-line, color-blocked style.
    BTW, the color-blocked version did not say, "monastic" to me. It immediately brought the mid 60s to mind. And I'm sure the way you accessorize it when you wear it (no crucifix around the neck, for example) would be in your lovely vintage yet modern style!

      +laceyunderall22 Thank you - I am glad you enjoyed it! Will plan a tutorial video for the colour blocking, making more a-line and adding cuffs!

    An old trick for static cling is aerosol hair spray. In the PNW static cling is inevitable for certain fabrics. Spray under every layer of fabric very quickly. I don't know why it works, but it does. My personal favorite is the India white. Picturing that with skinny jeans, well, you must look absolutely stunning.

    'Went to the URL for the class & 'page taken down'. Went to the URL for buying the pattern & 'this site can't be reached'. The shape of the shift dress you have there is just as they were in the 60's (I was a child, but remember them well), and I want to make my 93 yr old mum one now as I'm buying a sewing machine again as she's nostalgic for a 'shift dress' to keep her cool this summer (we live in Australia). HELP!

    Hi Lisa! I know this video is old but I am dying to find what I think you called your whistle fabric? The black with sort of beigy rectangles scattered on it. I love it so much and want to make your shift dress in it. Any idea what I should search for? Have had no luck googling. Thanks :)

    Hi Lisa, I love all the different variations you have made! I've just finished making my first using the ultimate shift dress kit. would u recommend grading between sizes on this pattern? or does the style in itself suggest it should be proportionally one size? my fit is ok but looser in the bust and waist (im a classic pear) but perhaps that could be the cotton fabric.

    • @SewOverIt
      @SewOverIt  8 лет назад +1

      +Kimberly MacLean Yes you can grade between the sizes to make the hip a little larger - just place a metre stick on the correct size line at the bust and take it out to the larger size on the hip. Make sure that you grade out to the same point on each side seam and extra if you think you need it on the centre back seam. For the dress you have just made you can fit it in under the armhole.

    after seeing your amazing collection of shift dresses I bought the pattern. eek! very excited to get sewing. just one question though. do I need to apply interfacing to the neckline facing? all of the other dresses I have made have used interfacing on the neckline. Thanks :-) x

    • @SewOverIt
      @SewOverIt  8 лет назад

      +Tanya Bennett You can apply it but I often don't as I don't like it to be rigid so it's up to you!

    • @tanyabennett2638
      @tanyabennett2638 8 лет назад

      +SewOverIt thank you for your help :-) I decided to use interfacing, I have some that's not too stiff. I can't wait to get started on my next one. do you have a tutorial for adding a Peter pan style collar? Or could you point me in the right direction for one? Thanks xx
