  • The Lone Piper at Queen Elizabeth II Funeral
    The music that signaled the start of the Queen's mornings signaled the end of her funeral, as he played one final lament, “A Salute to the Royal Fendersmith,” while her coffin was lowered into the Royal Vault beneath St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle.
    Pipe Major Paul Burns
    I felt it was the most simple part of the day but the most poignant
    I've made a couple of subtle edits of my own to enhance the original broadcast

      Princess Diana was loved greatly too. It was an amazing turn out for her as well. I remember men and women openly crying in the streets and the beautiful sound of the church bells as her casket left the church after her service. I felt so sad for Harry and William. Both just boys at the time and having to solemnly walk behind their Mom’s coffin in public for some distance. Also Diana’s brother’s speech for her was beautiful and touching, and the massive round of applause in reaction that spilled from the public outside and spread inwards into the church. Elton John also sang ‘Candle in the Wind’ at her service. Unforgettable. All of it. The Queen’s service was touching too. Incredible life of service. 💜

      I play several instruments, but think bagpipes would rank first as my favorite (even though this is not one that I play). I know of no other musical instrument that so instantly cuts to the heart, and that so poignantly stirs emotion. Knowing that the queen loved the pipes and awakened daily to a piper outside of her window makes this last farewell to her all the more stirring and sad.

    The tune was written by Pipe Major Jimmy Banks 1st Battalion Scots Guards in memory of his Brother,I hadn't heard the tune before but what a haunting melody and Pipe Major Paul Burns played it on an excellent Bagpipe which added to the fitting Tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the 11.
    May She Rest In Peace.

    • @kirsteneasdale5707
      @kirsteneasdale5707 Год назад +4

      I hadn’t heard the tune before either. Apparently PM Jimmy Banks’ original title was ‘A Salute To Willie The Royal Fendersmith’. It was written as a memorial for his brother, Willie who died in an accident 30 years ago.
      Jimmy Bank’s tune is really lovely and I can see why The Queen liked it. It is a beautiful tune, created out of the composer’s own personal experience of the loss of a loved one.
      How fitting and how poignant, for this to be played at The Queen’s funeral.
      I think ‘A Salute to Willie The Royal Fendersmith’ will now, justifiably, join the ranks of those other well known laments, traditionally played in times of grief (Flooers O The Forest, Sleep Dearie Sleep, and Amazing Grace).
