So we’re all in agreement that the angry, little Duderstadt Class is the 24th/25th century version of the Pioneer Class, right? For some reason, I haven’t seen many people mention it, maybe because it’s obvious?
Based on the date, the Pioneer seems to be the immediate predecessor to the "Blackhawk" reconnaissance vessel, where they decided the secondary hull was better connected to the aft engineering section than on the forward saucer.
@@rolandmiller5456 The only argument about it being a precursor and not a separate line is that we don't see that configuration represented going forward, suggesting a developmental dead-end.
Now I want the USS Boaty McBoat face.A scout ship captained by a Scottish captain with a taste for Yorkshire tea tea, white, 2 sugars or "computer, tea, NATO standard" 🤦♂️🤷♂️😂👍
Love this design. The secondary hull placement and giant nacelles makes it look like it was built for speed--there's something agile about the sleek design.
Anyone notice that newer ships in Starfleet only seem to last 20 years or less? I was hoping the Enterprise-D would be recommissioned at the end of Picard, at least to break up this trend.
The underslung secondary hull design grew on me over time. Really like the design of the ship overall, and she looks gorgeous from both the side and tilted top profiles
There's one ship class I haven't seen y'all do, and that's the Nova Class. It's my favorite of the First Contact/ Voyager era designs. It's a science vessel based on an escort design.
What I like about these 2 classes is that they are reasonably sized and buck the trend of vessels just getting bigger over time. There is no logical reason for vessel to be so large unless the mission calls for it.
🖖😎👍Very truly very cool and very nicely well informatively explained and executed in every detail way shape and format provided on the Starship U.S.S. INTREPID of Picard and all of those with the same name before her and on all of the specifications and functions of her as well; Any ways a very great wonderfully job well done indeed Sir!👌.
I mentioned this on another video regarding this ship but as much as I absolutely _adore_ the Intrepid, which believe me I do, I can't help but think that it would've hit even harder than it already does if the Interpid had been replaced with the Enterprise-F in the series.. Sure the Odyssey Class is much larger than the Neo-Conny, but seeing *_The Enterprise_* of all ships compromised by the Changelings would've been a massive gutpunch and also made the stakes even more apparent.
Rare that season 3 episode 5 of Picard was the only time you see a Duderstadt-class ship. That design looks good except for the positioning of the photon torpedo launchers tucked in the center.
I think the name Intrepid keeps being reused for several reasons. First, it's a good name for an exploratory vessel; I'd expect nothing less for the Intrepid-class USS Voyager to venture to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Such a mission certainly wouldn't fit for the USS Sitsathomeport. Second, Star Trek from its inception has loved WWII ship names - the American carriers in particular. All three of the Yorktown-class carriers have lent their names to Starfleet vessels (Yorktown, Enterprise, and Hornet) as have the Lexington-class (Lexington and Saratoga) and the Essex-class Intrepid, Princeton, Shangri-La, Valley Forge, Kearsarge, and Franklin (I'm sure I've missed a few). Additionally, the carrier Intrepid has been preserved as a popular museum ship in New York City, lending a readily visited (for American audiences anyway) real world connection. It is somewhat weird from an in-universe perspective that the various Intrepids don't share registry numbers like the numerous Enterprises and Voyagers. It's of course explained from a meta viewpoint: none of the Intrepids has been a "hero" ship.
I get the idea of being familiar to the audience. But this is a great example of how the enterprise breaks it's own cannon..why isn't there an intrepid A, B,C, etc... The Potemkin as well...
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, but in the case of this Star Trek : Picard ship design there's an strange similarity to a dual G/C spot stimulator toy.
Adam AGAIN No wonder King Charles Shceduled his Coronation today! 😉 As for the video, Intrepid is one of a handful of names used in TOS and reused in the various incarnations of Trek. Maybe you all should do more of them, Consitution, Constellation, Yorktown and of course Defiant! Unless you already did! 😁
Much better looking than the Neo-Constitution ex-Titan-A. I guess we can say this ship has three hulls if we count the section aft of the saucer as the main hull. Very interesting and unique design.
7:30 They weren’t even on when that happened. I can imagine this Ship being a Spin-off Class of the Springfield-Class, they have similar hull configurations and if Added to STO, they should include the Springfield aswell.
What a dorky looking ship. It's like someone was building a model that only had a saucer and nacelles and then they decided to stick a prostate massager on the underside.
I hate to disagree with the wiki, or memory alpha. But it is painfully obvious that the 24th century Intrepid class was not a long range exploration vessel. Its crew too small, the quaters weren't built for extended cruises away from port, evident by how Kim's neighbor would bang on the bulkheads when he practiced his clarinet because the bulkheads werent built to dampen sound that effectively because the ship wasnt designed to be lived on indefinitely. Its clear that while the Intrepid made do and did serve well in scientific roles when needed. It was never a science first vessel. Star Fleet had a rule that all ships needed science labs because you never know when your going to be the only ship in the sector to get detailed scans of a temporary anomaly or alien vessel or whatever. But the Intrepid was incredibly well armed for a ship so small, very heavily automated, being that it was about 1/5 the size of a galaxy but used 1/10th the crew. It had an unusually large compliment of shuttles for a ship its size, and its warp core was excessively large for a ship its size, easily giving the ship more power than it would ever need. It had no kitchen from the launch, with Voyagers being built by Neelix to conserve on replicator energy. It only carried at maximum 3 years of deuterium. A supply that could be wasted much faster if the crew wasnt careful. And the lack of backup systems. They had no hydroponics before the delta quadrant, only a single doctor and 1 nurse for a crew of 141 and not a single crewman with medical training as backup save only for an EMH who proved more than worth his emitter's wait in latinum. Its obvious. The Intrepid was built as a multipure tactical ship that could be mass produced and be fast. Its necelles are purpose built to deal with the warp 5 speed limit starfleet put in after TNG discovered conventional warp travel of the time damaged subspace. The ships ability to land on a planet and either dislodge large amounts of cargo or personnel directly or even remove and repair entire coils in the field means it was modular and meant for rapid service and deployment. This was Starfleets best attempt at a general purpose ship for the 24th century, an answer to the Klingon bird of prey, a ship that is well armed for almost any tactical scenario. has limited science labs that can serve most needs, and can easily transport resources and personnel quickly across the federation. But its lack of back ups, lack of comforts, and lack of long term storage shows it would never have been intended for deep space. Also, no astrometrics. No star fleet ship can claim to be an exploration ship if it doesnt have even an astrometrics lab.
They could use names like "Pegasus" "Phoenix" "Deadalus" "Ganymede" etc... A ship full of Vulcans, while on the nose but they could name it the USS Surak for example. So many names they could use
The ship only looks angry because it's borrowed part of the design philosophy from the d7 where there is a protruding hull facing directly at your enemy such as with the deflector array mounted drive section.
It should have been able to go to warp with one nacelle. If two nacelles were absolutely necessary to form a stable warp field, then starships would have 3 or more of them.
I was thinking the same thing. Sort of like ideally you want both warp engines online, but if one of them is out, you can at least limp home, or to the nearest station on the remaining engine, albeit at a slower warp speed. Otherwise it paints a pretty stupid picture of StarFleet procedures and protocol, as well as their training programs. They could have at least included some dialogue saying something like, "They can still make warp, even on one engine, but it will take them longer to catch us." Then again, I stand by the position that the writers of new trek have all the critical thinking skills and imagination of a gumdrop.
@@tr4480 That’s always been my “head canon.” A ship missing a nacelle might be able to do 1/4 or 1/3 of its normal maximum warp speed. Enough to at least limp along. There was some dialogue about this in the Voyager two part episode “Year of Hell.” One of Voyagers nacelles was trashed and Janeway told B’elana to abandon repairs and focus on the good one.
So, we only ever see two, or hear of more than four intrepid class starships, so it's possible there just weren't that many of them commissioned, in which case, the fact we don't see any in STP is merely the fact that they were used to the point of breaking. We know voyager was decomm'd pretty quickly after her return, given what she went through, and that was decades before STP, so it's safe to assume they're successors have completely replaced them now. Plus, whilst we see hundreds of ships at earth, we don't see thousands, and an organisation the size of the UFP and its Starfleet would require many times more ships to function, so I'm guessing what we really saw was the primary battlefleet(s), whilst the support fleet(s) of less battle-ready status were trying to fill the gaps for the expected duration of festivities. I really like this new "Dude" class and can't wait for them to hit STO, she's a real pretty dude for an angry starship. Of course, they'll have to mod the design a little for turrets and omni's (seriously, why do no ships have centreline weapons anymore in Trek?), but I have faith the team will be conscientious in doing so: they're pretty good at ships these days. I went had a look at Larry Miller's designs and had a right giggle when I read she's supposed to be an FDC, like, she has less IV than a Connie; where are you putting the fighters? (the Hornet is tiny compared to the Dude)

One more Intrepid for the road: The real life USS Intrepid is now part of the Intrepid Museum in New York, which also hosts the Space Shuttle Enterprise. Maybe this connection has contributed to the recurrence of the name in Star Trek, or maybe it just really sounds like it should be the name of a starship.
I I’ve always loved Voyager and it was my favorite fam many years got me through some hard times. And I always love the intro music. But I always ruined it a little bit for me that we were expected to believe that out in these nebulas and such in the far rages of space with a bunch of perfectlyshaped asteroids spelling peoples names
There's nothing unusual about a time honored ship name being reused for a new ship after the previous ship has been destroyed or decommissioned. Real navies do it all the time as a way to honor the legacy of the name. The British Royal Navy has had 15 ships named Enterprise since the 1700s, and the US Navy has had 8, including three aircraft carriers, the latest being the Gerald R. Ford class Enterprise currently under construction right now.

So, given this rollercoaster ride of happenings, it's none too likely that we'll see too many of those grand ole TNG+ era ships in any great abundance going forward...but when we do, smile and savor.
You know what got me with the romulan evacuation doesn't Romulus have a ton of ships why couldn't they evacuate the people
True story. When I was a child, my mom forced prune juice on me. I thought it was punishment. The whole warrior's drink thing really cracks me up.
"The ANGRY Ship"
Kirk: Reliant?
Surely not - it's part of one big happy fleet!
Worf became the greatest Klingon since Kah'Less because he was the first regular klingon since Kah'less. They left that sword in space because of the smell.
I'll say similarities in I think she's a separate class and an upgraded class on her own
@@rolandmiller5456 The only argument about it being a precursor and not a separate line is that we don't see that configuration represented going forward, suggesting a developmental dead-end.
I simply haven't heard the word 'Intrepid' enough times in this video. :P
Anyone find it ironic that the USS Hikaru Sulu was involved in the destruction of the USS Excelsior?
It sounds like the Intrepid needs to be scheduled for Star Fleet Anger Management training.
You can also assume that since the class is called "Duderstadt," there is/was presumably a USS Duderstadt in addition to the ones you mentioned here.
Yeah, of course. The funny Thing is, that "Duderstadt" is a City in the State of Niedersachsen, Germany
i say it again but the intrepid remind so much of a modern day pioneer class
My dreadnaught is called the U.S.S. Rogal Dorn
Planned obsolescence 😆
Still outperforms real life where ships are scrapped before they are commissioned.
The underslung secondary hull design grew on me over time. Really like the design of the ship overall, and she looks gorgeous from both the side and tilted top profiles
I have a feeling that Lieutenant Commander Adam dislikes the word Intrepid ;)
There's one ship class I haven't seen y'all do, and that's the Nova Class. It's my favorite of the First Contact/ Voyager era designs. It's a science vessel based on an escort design.
man is so annoying that eaglemoss is not arround i would love a xl model of the ships from picard like intrepid and titan a/enterprise g
I have never, ever wanted to name any of my ships in STO by those names, thank you.
after watching some ST:O videos from a different youtuber, I like to christen my ships as the USS Extra Parts 😛
13:10 Ironic that the Hikaru Sulu was one of the ships that fired at the Excelsior.
Since the Excelsior was destroyed, does that mean Elnor is dead?
Thanks for another amazing video, you always make me smile Lieutenant Commander Adam.
I so much enjoy the humor you inject into these videos! I hope you never stop producing videos.
Duderstat is names after Doug Drexlers wife.
I named my enterprise j the “Flapjack of DOOM” in Star Trek online.
I love this design. Refreshingly different 😊
I really love your Trek analysis. Lots of fun Sir:)
I get the idea of being familiar to the audience. But this is a great example of how the enterprise breaks it's own cannon..why isn't there an intrepid A, B,C, etc... The Potemkin as well...
I can’t wait for the USS Obstreperous. That’s the ship I wanna serve on!
It's amazing now, with the right music, angles and staging, a normally inoffensive and inanimate object can appear terrifying 😨
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, but in the case of this Star Trek : Picard ship design there's an strange similarity to a dual G/C spot stimulator toy.
I just wanted to say thank you to Terry. Loved Picard.
Adam AGAIN No wonder King Charles Shceduled his Coronation today! 😉
As for the video, Intrepid is one of a handful of names used in TOS and reused in the various incarnations of Trek. Maybe you all should do more of them, Consitution, Constellation, Yorktown and of course Defiant! Unless you already did! 😁
True! I saw all this previous designs on the site Devianart years ago.
This ship reminds me of the pioneer class from star trek online TOS era
The original angry starship was Enterprise when it rose up behind the Reliant and delivered the torpedo and phaser shots that ended it.
That Intrepid class is a badass design..
Worf was raised on the farm world of Gault, not Earth. The Roshenkos moved to Earth later, where they took on Alexander
it reminds me of the pioneer class starship you get at the start of startrekonline's tos campaign
What a dorky looking ship. It's like someone was building a model that only had a saucer and nacelles and then they decided to stick a prostate massager on the underside.
I'd be an angry ship were I shoved into ST: Picard too! Poor ship. 😂
To be fair, Intrepid is also a name that has a lot of history on Earth as well, most notably with the 'Dry I' that still rests in New York.
Great review! One correction - the TOS predecessor is Toronado, not tornado.
"And then the spaceship got mad"
-Noble from Lost Pause, 1995
All Federation ship registrations start with NCC. All aircraft registered in the United States start with N. I'm sure this isn't a coincidence.
It's funny because i wanted to rewatch the scene where it rises up and scares the Titans and i typed "Picard season 3 that ship is pissed."
They could have at least included some dialogue saying something like, "They can still make warp, even on one engine, but it will take them longer to catch us."
Then again, I stand by the position that the writers of new trek have all the critical thinking skills and imagination of a gumdrop.
The Intrepid accidentally reveals that there is a "DOWN" in the ST Universe, towards which she is pulled and sinks as she loses power. lol.
14:50 it screams “Hot Rod”
I was in trepidation of the word, _intrepid_ , by the end of this video! 😅
Wait, so there's a Wasp class, but the ship _actually_ _named_ Wasp is Hornet class?
Well the name vomes from real world navy. Ww2 . A carrier, I think .
The hornet was the sister ship of enterprise in ww2 ( carrier's) snd constitution class in star fleet . .
But if you type. Uss wasp .star trek . ( try venim geek media) image of the wasp class, and an 8 min video discussion of the class . ( sphere with 3 nacelles early star fleet )
I've been asking an established Trekky (a few infact) what a ship is called for ages and he simply cant answer it (you'll know the tuber too im sure), Im sure you can tho your easily the most thoughtful and knowledgeable😊 (maybe Lore is up there too 😅) are you interested in helping me identify a bizar ship and proving yourself the greatest (cos ive actually asked a few channels now so i will definitely go back and tell them all you answered it where they couldn't)?!?.....👍👌👍🖖
Go for it :)

Just how many SenSooors are there???? Lol
I like how torpedos alway seem to fly so damn slowly. Slower than today's rockets... and in space!
I never realised it until this video, but does anyone think the Intrepid here kinda looks like those things out of "Arsenal of Freedom"?
I I’ve always loved Voyager and it was my favorite fam many years got me through some hard times. And I always love the intro music. But I always ruined it a little bit for me that we were expected to believe that out in these nebulas and such in the far rages of space with a bunch of perfectlyshaped asteroids spelling peoples names
Beautiful
Mine was the USS ASSKICKER, Intrepid Class NCC-1313
There's nothing unusual about a time honored ship name being reused for a new ship after the previous ship has been destroyed or decommissioned. Real navies do it all the time as a way to honor the legacy of the name. The British Royal Navy has had 15 ships named Enterprise since the 1700s, and the US Navy has had 8, including three aircraft carriers, the latest being the Gerald R. Ford class Enterprise currently under construction right now.
love that we all agree that it was angry
