Watching this series in 480p back in the day, I now realize how many artistic design details were just completely lost in that blurry broadcast smear. This show truly deserves a 4K remaster!
That blurry broadcast smear did help with the special effects though. Like the paintings they use to extend aeras like the jefferies tubes and the promenade didn't look like paintings due to the blur

Dear Otoy, I just wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for the incredible work you do in preserving and showcasing classic Roddenberry Star Trek. Your channel is a treasure trove of nostalgia and appreciation for these timeless works. Watching your beautiful documentary, I couldn't help but be reminded of the things that made these showcased works so special. The artistry of the Motion Picture still resonates in its stunning design, capturing the essence of the Star Trek universe. Armin Shimerman hosted this DS9 recollection superbly in his entertaining and compelling dialogue. I must admit, when Deep Space Nine was airing, I found it a bit difficult to fully grasp its brilliance. However, when I had the opportunity to watch it in its entirety, thanks to streaming services and a full set, the true excellence of the series came through in the most enjoyable way. The intricate formula that DS9 presented unfolded before my eyes, and I was captivated by its depth and complexity. One aspect of the series that particularly fascinated me was the seamless blend of science, religion, and spirituality. It was a thought-provoking amalgamation that explored fascinating concepts and challenged our understanding of the universe. The science fiction or fantasy worked and jelled cohesively! Once again, I want to extend my deepest appreciation to you, Otoy, for your dedication to preserving and showcasing these classic Roddenbery Star Trek works. Your channel is a haven for fans like myself, allowing us to relive the magic and immerse ourselves in the captivating world of Star Trek. I am inspired to make something myself now, and for this I am grateful. Thank you for all that you do.
CBS and Paramount are to sorry to remaster this excellent series that IMO is the best Trek series. It would be nice if Trek were sold to another studio as I have read, then maybe DS9 would be given the recognition and support that was handed to the lesser quality shows like TNG and Voyager.
Back in the 90s people were screaming "This ISN'T STAR TREK!" How little has changed now. Looking forward to Discovery and Picard finally being rediscovered in, oh, 30 years or so.

God such a difference now. All the hate that DS9 got similar to what Discovery and Picard got.....all of those who cried about how it wasn't Star Trek...I warned them at conventions about history repeating how wrong they would be and well history repeats.
@chemicalhap discovery and picard are different beasts though. Like on discovery for example whenever there's a battle I can't hear anything that's going on discovery's Bridge. The inserting of modern disco music whereas everyone else avoided it also gets my goat
Astounding. So many things I’d not noticed before. Of all the modelling and lighting the things that made me think “that’s perfect” are the carpets and Quark’s bars floor. Weird I know, but they are just so spot on: texture, lighting, colour. This walkthrough with the virtual camera and editing is also amazing, and Armin is such a wonderful host. Thank you.
When this show first came out, I was like wtf..... but by the time the series finale aired, I found myself a bit choked up with the last 5 minute montage of memories.... what a journey. I felt like the whole DS9 cast became part of my family and we were parting ways forever.....
Me too. But it is important to know that while TNG was shot on film, DS9 and Voyager was shot on video. The remastering of TNG was possible because of the high resolution on 32mm film. The best we can hope for is some kind of AI Upscale of the original video source of DS9 and Voyager 😉🙏🏼
@@pderham26 I stand corrected 🙂👍🏼 You're right! It was the final release that only exist on tape because of the added low resolution digital effects. If any remastering is to be done of the original 32mm recordings, ALL effects has to be redone in 4K 👍🏼👍🏼
@@FrodeFender Yeah I've seen some really nice upscales that would be a massive improvement over what we have now, but unfortunately I don't think CBS/Paramount even cares enough to do THAT much for it.

We need a full HD remaster of this show. I was just trying to get my wife to watch it on Netflix for the first time, but the low quality of the footage was an instant barrier to her being able to get into it. :( Also, I really wish we could get all these sets and locations in VR, from DS9 to the Enterprise D. There was a brilliant fan project of the Enterprise D at once point, but it sadly got shut down. Giving us something like that with proper modern VR movement, turning and interaction would just be stunning. Star Trek has never bettered the TNG/DS9 era imo, and it would be so nice to be able to go both watch both shows in glorious HD and go back there and stand in this world's special locations in VR and just be there again from time to time. Edit: Just saw some of your clips for the Vision Pro stuff. They look awesome. But, obviously, most people aren't going to be able to afford a Vision Pro, so it would be great if this kind of thing was assessable in more affordable and mainstream VR headsets too, be it PC VR or the Quest line. I have a Quest 3, and I would truly love to be able to walk around a high quality recreation of the Enterprise D bridge on that headset.

He said last year in 2023 that $20M from Viacom CBS could remaster TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT in 4K. However I don’t see anything happening anytime soon when Viacom CBS which owns Paramount and Star Trek is currently up for sale.
