Can you imagine there are actually still fans out there who refuse to engage with DS9 as its supposedly not "real star trek" as its based on a space station? Imagine ignoring the greatest Trek for such a sad reason lol
What never made sense was for a 23rd 24th 25th century there’s only one Spacedock at Earth , where’s all the orbital platforms and orbital defences, as well as the power station seen in DS9
There were more than one space dock and were mentioned in the books. But the space dock at Earth was one of the few that had dry docks where major repairs could be made and were close to production facilities where ships were built and therefore where required repair parts could be produced and sent to the dry docks.
I was waiting and hoping for a final mention of the deepest deep space station Babylon5 - just entirely due to the DS9/B5 controversy back in the day. Even so, enjoyed the video :)
my theory would be that Deep Space Stations inside the UFP Territory make sense since not every sun has planets or even colonies and some are systems are shurely off limits because of the Prime Directive and they fit perfectly in Roddenberrys pitch of Star Trek since they would act like an Oasis, coaling station or refueling point from the 20/30s that are deep in a nation buuut also inside a desert. the Writers may never found distance, star dencity or population important for their story they wanted to tell which is all good and fine, worked for decades BUT, since when does such things let us nerds stop and try to find meaning and sense in throwaway lines
The 'K' series space stations were named so, because they were built along the galactic border with the Klingons and acted as a multi-purpose space station, to resupply both civilian and Starfleet ships alike. They were also listening posts keeping an eye on the movement of ships in Klingon space. However once the Klingon fleet started utilizing the cloaking device, these stations were not that useful anymore, hence the later Epsilon listening posts built to replace them ( As seen in The Motionpicture). You are partially correct that the K series stations were later sold to private interests, or scrapped though. Otherwise it was an interesting video.
Deep Space Relay Stations an entire group of subspace relay stations placed at different points to help with long range communications. Interior stations are Relay station xxx while those on the edge of space are DSRS xxx Theres also deep space monitoring arrays, deep space listening arrays :)
What's up with that beta that pops up in the left corner every now and then. Is it because it's expanded universe or whatever the Star Trek equivalent is?
I think it's a convention that arose from the wikis. The wiki for canon Star Trek (i.e. the shows and films) is called "Memory Alpha", after a planet in the Federation that houses its national library; the wiki for expanded material (books, games, etc.) followed the same naming convention, calling itself "Memory Beta."
Starfleet: We'll call the station "Deep Space 9."
Bajor: We'll call the station "As Local As It Gets... 9"
Brilliant.
Nope, once they moved it away from Bajor orbit and to the mouth of the wormhole, it was "Nearly as Local As It Gets...9"
Legend has it Deep Space 1-3 were sabatoged, and Deep Space 4 was stolen.... borrowed by Sinclair to fight the Shadows 1,000..... wrong show.
🤣
I blame the Shadows
@@bigfootwalker5399 I blame Zathras.
@@goldenknight578 i think you mean Zathras or Zathras...hm
Of course we will have to blame Zathras. Maybe not Zathras, but FOR SURE Zathras.
Another thing is Deep Space stations seem to be set up to function autonomously if they are cut off from the normal federation logistics.
"I've never heard of DS9 so moving on." 🤣🤣🤣

Nice....Can you do something on The Nyberrite Alliance.....Really hard to find anything on them

Budget restrictions and time restrictions for effects

I always figured deep space stations were put where there were no UFP planet near to deal with the basics of what the station covered

I could never figure out why DS9's docking pylons pointed inward. Makes no scenes.
There were several scenes at those docking pylons.
I always thought it was so smaller ships with weaker shields, or no shields, could be better protected inside DS9s.
@@killnotic Exactly.

i think its meanly a scaling problem....there are som sceens a Galxay-class ist bearthed with pleanty of space
I always found it weird that Deep Space 9 was Deep space since its so close to Bajor but this vid explained why. Mystery solved lol.
Thanks for discussing the other Deep Space stations

While i much prefer your channel Stsrbase1 did this 3 months ago

I would assume Deep Space Stations were allocated in interstellar space outside any solar systems.
I always thought an ESD could be the space part of a of a Starbase😀
never been the biggest fan of federation space station for me the just look abit boring i would not mind to see some diversety
Have you done a video about the new UFP Deep Space 9?
My favorite DSS is DS K-7 of the TOS era.
🖖
dont think anything importen happend on ds9
Not all star bases were orbital.
Why does DS9 have so few windows/viewing ports?
i mean, it's basicly a Space Amazon Warehouse
UFP maps always fail to address the 3d nature of space
It is to make it easy to read. A 3d map of the galaxy would e very confusing to look at

You’re right. It’s Beta Canon.

I like Rick
You know I do like hearing more about them but man. They couldn't have more boring names.
