    DISCLAIMERS ON FORMATS COVERED:
Notice I said POPULAR formats, meaning a format where there is a significant amount of people who compete in it for tournaments and so on and so forth. Now Popular does not mean official even though two of the formats I will be covering were official formats being Japan Nintendo Cup and VGC, but it is an indicator of what a good portion of competitive players thought was “optimal” at the time. Also sometimes the Pokemon Battle Historia doesn't provide enough information to talk about certain Pokemon so I add Smogon analysis to make sense of it. This is pretty rare though.
To the people asking why I don't cover Smogon Singles for Gens 1 and 2: It wouldn't really be a history video if I covered those because online Smogon gen 1 meta to my knowledge wasn't actually played until late 2000s. I wanted to cover tournaments/competitive battling that was actually played during the early years of Pokemon (late 90s).
To the people asking why I cover Smogon at all for singles: To my knowledge, Smogon was the most popular format for Gens 3-5 and held a number of tournaments throughout the years. As for Gen 6, I am not covering Battle Spot Singles because there is more information and explanations about sets being used relative to their own meta on Smogon. In other words, there are few written analyses about Battle Spot Pokemon besides the Top tiers and I would like to avoid theorycrafting because it may have a hint of bias (though I theorycraft if I REALLY couldn't find information on a certain Pokemon). The keyword here is explanations. Though I did find statistics of most Pokemon used and most moves used, there wasn't really any explanations on why. Also the few Pokemon I did find analysis of for Top Tier Battle Spot Singles had very similar move sets to the Smogon OU sets anyway.
For the record, I do not care what rules or formats people play their battles by nor am I saying these formats are the only formats that should be played. The way you play Pokemon is between you and your opponent and I will not fault you for using evasion or whatever, I just like examining popular tournament formats.

One thing: there was a unique Togepi that you could get in XD Gale of Darkness that was guaranteed to have Tri-Attack. When combined with a high SA Togekiss + Serene Grace and Silk Scarf, it's a pretty nasty combo even without the original STAB it got from the normal typing. Very rare nowadays, but totally legit.

As an update to this, I just found out that Togepi and Togetic can actually learn Tri Attack as a TR in Sword and Shield. It seems to be one of the standard awards for Max Raid Battles in a lot of places within the Wild Area, so this combo is significantly easier to get your hands on now, even if it doesn't have stab anymore.

If you then transferred it to Gen 4 you could evolve it into Togekiss. It would be Special Normal STAB that thanks to Serene grace would give a 40% chance to cause either burning, paralysis or freezing

    • @vegetavsluigi
      @vegetavsluigi 6 лет назад +1

Somalian Pirate History of Fox is quite easy: He was great in 64, he dominated Melee, he was okay in Brawl but Brawl was cancer anyway, and he’s great in 4.
As for Pikachu: Dominated 64, pretty good in Melee (and even got a clone), wasn’t all too spectacular in Brawl, and is pretty good in 4, but only has one real representative in Esam.

Togetic actually hasn’t been in the lowest tier in recent gens, largely because of the introduction of Eviolite. It’s movepool has expanded along with Togekiss’s, and it can also pull off a good Paraflinch set, especially with its good typing and Eviolite-boosted defenses. It’s speed also isn’t as much of a problem thanks to it’s increased bulk and the fact that it’s in a lower tier. As far as I can remember it’s in either RU or NU (though I think it’s NU because RU is full of walls who don’t care about air slash and clerics who can clear paralyzation as of now)

    • @gengarzilla1685

While that is true... in gen 5- today he does have a special Cutsap berry set...
Basically relies on exploding or spinning really quickly before dying

Man! I keep saying "if i could make my joy into a cure for depression, i would get over my sadly terrifying fear of needles to do so" but all i needed was a Togepi to just take my mental joy to others. I wish atleast cause i am overly happy alot of the time.

Do Typhlosion, Meganium, and Feraligatr before moving on to Generation 3 evo. families! You should do the generations starters final evolutions before moving on to the next generation of evo. families! I WILL NEVER GIVE UP! FOR JOHTO!!!

      Not really.
Feraligatr is the best sheer force user and has access to Dragon Dance and Water STAB
Typhlosion's strong special attack and speed combined with a limited but powerful movepool packs a punch that he's able to sweep in double battles. In fact he was at one time stronger than Charizard offensively and under Sunny Day, Typhlosion is frighteningly powerful with Eruption able to take down a Cresselia with just two hits and that's without choice specs.
Meganium, while doesn't really do much offensively, can still be useful as a strong support as that's what Meganium was intentionally designed for, boasting a ton of support move combinations that most other support Pokemon don't have.

Not really. Feraligatr's access to water STAB and Dragon Dance make it a far better versatile sheer force user than Landorus. And yes, while Gyarados is certainly better, unless it fails to set up with Moxie unlike Feraligatr who gets Sheer Force right off the bat, that doesn't mean Feraligatr is bad. If anything, your comment neglects the fact that because Feraligatr is one of the most versatile sheer force users out there. He's not only the best sheer force user, he's widely considered by many people as one of the most OP starters out there.
Now your just underestimating Charizard before his Mega Evolution. What Charizard lacks offensively makes up for it defensively. Also any good player will learn when to use Typhlosion at the right time instead of having it die in a situation it can't win. If used properly and timed right under the right conditions, Typhlosion can easily sweep Pokemon faster than him like Greninja or Espeon if you know Typhlosion has flame charge. Even so, you greatly underestimate the fact that Typhlosion's access to Eruption and Eruption alone changes everything, combined with his other moves and strong stats makes him a Pokemon with offensive power that overpowers most Pokemon.
Meganium isn't really inferior to most other support Pokemon. In fact he's decent at doing the job of setting up defenses, curing or placing stats on Pokemon. Due to it's access of combination of moves like Aromatherapy, Reflect or Light Screen that most other support Pokemon don't have, Meganium does stand out a lot. Still it needs a lot of improvement as there are still a few other ones that do the job better.
