- Stick invites Matt on a mission to help destroy something called the “Black Sky” from falling into the wrong hands. Down at the docks, Black Sky turns out to be a kid, and Matt foils the plan.
We all know Matt’s rule about killing people, but this is where it meets reality and the voice of reason. Stick knows Matt’s rule is impossible to uphold, to continue at the rate it’s going. If Matt doesn’t realize it, Stick is going to beat it into his brain, or try to at least…

Matt was losing until he switched to the boxing. That's something Stick didn't teach him, so he couldn't counter it properly. Very nice detail.
Yes, the show is popular for having a fight scene that goes hand to hand with story (pun intended). Just like in season 3, when bullseye was getting his ass kicked up close so he tries to get some distance where he has the advantage. Fisk sucks at fighting so relies a lot on his weight and size to make up for the difference. This show very amazing with details, fight choreography and as well as, the story.

He was teaching him a lesson, a few actually and the one I loved was to not fight angry because that’s how you lose. Matt is way better than stick at fighting because he’s younger but stick keeps calm which makes him sense what Matt is going to do next. Matt was raging in this fight and it’s why he almost got beaten.

The worst part about Stick here is that he wasn't lying, he actually did kill that kid. Matt would never have reacted like that if he heard that Stick was lying.
Exactly. Matt can tell who is lying and who isn't. I love how the show is not scared to go dark.
That's why Matt steps back and just stands there up until Stick says how he "put an arrow through that thing's heart", cos he was sensing Stick's heartbeat in the hope he was lying.
Or maybe after all those years, stick learned the art of lying and kept his heart rate down.
yes but its possible to keep the heart rate down when lying, for example by thinking of something else by saying something with the same answer, stick could have done that.
Stick is a man in his 90's, yet he moves like a man in his 20's. Guy's amazing.

Stick can sense the slightest of your moves when you don't even expect him to.
Also, he's much more experienced than you in h2h combat, so he also knows how the attacker plans his next move and how he could dodge it.

I wish they had kept the stunt coordinators from this season for the Defenders. This scene was fucking amazing.

Then again, if that conversation had went down like that, we'd have been deprived of an excellent fight scene, and years of pent-up resentment and abandonment evaporated. So I'm glad we got what we got.
They don't all live in the same world for them the aliens attacking New York City never happened

I like to think Stick looks at Matt as his son just as much as Matt looks at Stick as his dad. I love this fight scene because Stick was still taking Matt he just didn't know it then.

Deep down he got a son. And he knows it. That's why he left him. Though I'm sure he kept tabs on him. Hell he might have even been watching him from far away thinking "Dumbass, should've taken him with me. Now he's gone soft."
@@adriansepulveda9452he was keeping tabs on Matt throughout the years. He even sent elektra when he was in college to gauge his mental state and see if he could do what he wanted him to which was to kill and finally bring him into the chase. In the show you find out that stick was always planning on coming back and bringing matt in but Matt's sense of justice never changed and elektra left because she loved him but couldn't change him

@@shinji_27 hard for them to see like he tries to teach matt there are other ways to see use your other senses. While others try to see what's infront of them stick uses his other senses to take em out. So basically don't always rely on your sight.
I love this fight for how simple it is
1: they aren’t fighting to save or hurt the world like most heroes and villains do, they are fighting for their different believes, Matt attacks first because he killed the kid, a sign that Matt is trying to end violence, stick murdered the kid, a sign that the kid couldn’t be redeemed
2: I like the setting, it isn’t a big place like an airport, a distocian battlefield, or a ruined field, it’s an apartment, where they don’t have many choices to move, just a place where they can hit each other till one bleeds
3: the soundtrack
Imagine hearing a noise and checking in to see two blind people fighting.
Only Scott Glenn could play stick and have it believable that an old blind man could be that bad ass
Stick has this arrogance about him that suggests he knows how we all should live, but he can't even face the challenge of the emotional state of a 10-year-old. Let's not forget that he said he would prepare Matt, but what has he done? He taught him for like a year, then Matt gives him a paper bracelet, and Stick heads for the hills. "Figure it out for yourself kid, I don't do feelings". And he has the balls to say things like "Haven't I taught you anything, kid?"...Well no you haven't, not in the long scheme of things. You, an old man with years of experience and wisdom were put to the task of teaching a boy your way of life. You do that for around a year or so, then the boy puts a paper circle in your hand, then you shit your pants and leave. It's astonishing he stayed as good as he did without your guidance. Maybe if you had the fortitude of overcoming pre-pubescent affection, you could have done a better job with him.
He left for a reason. To harden Matt. If he'd stayed, Matt wouldn't have the rage that he does. And the people he's fighting against would take advantage of that weakness of heart
Wallace Thompson Well it sure as shit didn't work. The driving force of Daredevil is that he cares. If he didn't want his heart soft it would've been better to stay and harden it for him. Train him like an actual mentor. Going away for 20 years isn't going to do anything in terms of preparation.

Like Stick said: he needed Matt to be a soldier, while Matt wanted Stick to be his new father and fill the gap he faced as an orphan. It was a matter of conflicting interests. Stick determined that Matt didnt have it in him to become the killer Stick needed against the Hand, so he ditched him. You wont go through boot camp forming family bonds with your drill instructors.
Its kind of ironic, since in the comics, Stick left because Matt was TOO agressive and impulsive, causing Stick to consider him unruly and unfit for service within the Chaste.

Scott Glenn is a great actor. He was actually cast as Clay in Sons of Anarchy...they even shot the pilot episode with him, I've never seen it...seen stills of him in the cut and he looked the part...what could've been...but Ron Perlman absolutely crushed it.

I get why the bad lighting is in 90% of Daredevil fights, whether its because Matt uses the dark to his advantage against "able" bodied opponents or because he predominantly fights at night, but why does that have to apply here? They're both blind and indoors, someone turn on a goddamn light so I can see what's happening!

I'm a DC fan, but I started liking this show and The Punisher. Now they're both gone. Why? Cancelling these shows was the dumbest thing to do. These shows were equivalent to Smallville. Maybe the networks should ask what the customers want to see, want to watch and keep or cancel. Take care and be safe everyone!

3:50 It's a hell of a thing when you earn your teachers respect by kicking his ass. I heard in the next man cartoon ones that the protest movement of a teacher is when they are surpassed by their own people. Stick got schooled to appoint and at least he's humble enough to admit that to Matt. At least I hope that's what he's doing and not another manipulation.
Matt was still pretty unexperimented at this moment Stick wasn't even trying I hope for a rematch when Matt will be stronger in Season 3 maybe

Even while missing a hand and having been impaled through the leg, Stick got Elektra under his sword... And hesitated (likely because of his feelings for somebody he still viewed as a daughter). That cost him his life.
Dude may have been over the hill, but even the down scaled MCU version of Stick was a force to be reckoned with.

What’s great about Stick and Matt, is they are a version of father and son. Weird father and son!! Stick actually is proud of Matt, and Matt really does love Stick. You see it in S2 when he is telling Elektra that he’s going to save him, and when he does save Stick Stick tells him how proud he is of him.
