I'm surprised because many people are offering amazing interpretations of Matt's chuckle at 0:26 mostly regarding his personality, trauma and his love of violence (and don't get me wrong, I absolutely love reading people dissecting Matt's psychology, it's fascinating) but isn't he just smiling there because he tricked them into thinking the gun was loaded ? It really just seems to me like a "ah-ah gotcha" moment
@@cb-9938 This isn't a single shot sequence. Not even just the stairwell portion. There's several wipes and hidden cuts. They're well done and create a great sense of flow but they're there. There are some extended bits within it with some complicated and well-executed blocking/choreography of the actors and the camera. The direction, cinematography, camera operator and editing is all incredibly well done. And the actors do an excellent job in some very demanding-looking sequences. It's a brilliant fight sequence. One of the best in any superhero film or TV series.
I love that when the gun clicks Matt realizes he can just beat the absolute shit out of these goons with that hand without running the risk of accidentally shooting someone. Vicious too getting pistol whipped like that for an entire fight. I also love how the older man is just genuinely a good person. He cares about the guy who just randomly came to save him not knowing it was a literal superhero who came to his rescue.

Definitely. a lot of the production crew that are in fight coreography/stunt work are videographers and scene coordinators these days. Especially on marvel projects. Scenes like the bus fight in Shang Chi were basically directed by stunt guys.
That chain just made this scene for me , whipping out and destroying the lights to guve him an advantage. Awesome ! I also loved the descent into “hell” theme going on since the fight progressed down the stairs towards a red blinking light that says “exit” . Great symbolism

One thing I love about this fight is that so often in these types of fights you'll see the hero hit a guy and they'll go down, then the fight moves on as if they're done for. This fight does the same thing, then a few seconds later, that same guy who is still mostly fine, re-enters from behind the camera. Watch for it and you'll recognise the costumes. If unless someone is seen getting absolutely brutalised, they'll usually come back after they're knocked down. It's awesome because yes it definitely adds some realism, but also it makes the fight feel more frenetic. Matt's mopping the floor with these guys, but just like actual human beings, being hit once, unless it's a particularly hard hit, doesn't take you out of the fight.
Why can't more marvel shows be just like this? Forget humor. This is a perfect example of what a superhero tv series should be. Disney should have learned from this.
Many people say that he's fighting better in tight spaces and they're right. There's a reason for that however, his multiple enemies are getting too crowded in tight places and cannot use the number's advantage at full.
