- After Karen agrees to stay with Matt, she later sneaks out of his apartment and goes to her apartment to get a USB drive with important information about Union Allied on it. Matt follows, luckily, because an assassin is waiting for Karen at her apartment. Seconds later, Matt busts in, and it’s a fight!
In the pouring rain, Matt and the attacker go toe-to-toe, trading blows for like five minutes, but Matt’s senses help him overcome his first worthy competitor.

I love it how daredevil in the series actually has energy and he gets tired out unlike other superheroes

Dayson Tan its because other superheroes have SUPERPOWERS that help them fight.
Daredevil has super-human senses, he can predict his opponents attacks better than a normal human.

I just realized that the reason this fight is so difficult for him is because the rain is muffling the assassins' movement. I also love that while this puts him at a disadvantage in footing it gives him an edge as rain bouncing off the knife makes it easier to detect and dodge.
Another cool detail is that this isnt shown in the mc's thoughts or smth like that, it is instead implied in a couple shots when he switched hands with it.
I thought it helped him tho cuz the rain makes sound for him so he knows we’re he’s at
This fight is when I realized this show would be astounding.
Before the opening theme when daredevil acts like Jack Murdock when beating up criminals is when I found out.

I honestly really love how he ends up having to struggle against some no name assassin in the very first episode, whereas most other shows would start out showcasing him being some expert badass wiping the floor with half a dozen guys just like this dude, I'm looking at you Arrow (Still like ya tho) Really sets the tone for how grounded the fights were gonna be. Matt is still learning but he kicks hella ass nonetheless
Razzrazz90 True, but in arrow it's in its fifth season, so he is an expert now, he got trained by Slade Wilson and The league of assassins and was part of the god damn Bratva

Razzrazz90 That's true along with Gotham since it's annoying how you have people easily mow down everyone in a fight even a skinny twig like Bruce who is still young can fight a total of 10 people but not feel exhausted
The assassin's name is Mr. Rance. He was featured earlier in the episode on a live feed and was said to have brutal methods, as shown.
It protrays him as human. He wasn't blessed with super human strength. He had to work hard to be in the shape he's in and still has to train to keep in shape. Even Batman doesn't struggle against injury or lack of energy. I think they need to do this more.
It's hard to do a fight scene in a dark room without making it look like you're hiding the choreography. This is how you do it right.

I'm so grateful that dark, gritty, and violent action like this is canon in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I haven't seen the most recent Captain America, but I heard the fights were sort of like this. I wish the movies had bloodier action like this show does.
Lot of marvel movies are PG 13 so they can't have bloody fights like in Daredevil but Deadpool will be somewhere around PG 16 like Daredevil so there will be more brutal.
And then there's Deadpool...

Man, even after one season Matt went through some shit. I love it when I show this good gets you so attached to a character like Daredevil.
The first time I saw this I had to like give myself a moment to process everything that I just saw because I thought it was the most amazing thing I'd ever seen. This was one of the scenes that made me say "shit I'm cancelling anything I have planned for the next few days".
both lived in a dangerous city, both dad's were killed by criminals, both wanted justice, both hated to kill people, both will never shoot a gun, both are mysterious characters, both use a mask, both are extremly good fighters and both are so fucking awsome

I know that I'm going to get hate for this, but I love the black suit so much more than his red suit.
No hate at all. The black suit is the best. However his first helmet when Gladiator finished the red suit didn't look right so it was written in to have in damaged so they could make a new one, which looked a lot better.

No you're so right no cap the black suit is so much better. It literally just looks cooler and there's no silly helmet with tiny horns that look like puppy ears on top.
I really love how Matt is effortlessly able to perform these acrobatic stunts during the fight scenes, it just makes the fights so much more cooler
To see how Daredevil improves as a fighter from season 1 through the defenders is amazing. He's given all he can handle from this one hitman and yet in The Defenders takes on 2 of the five fingers of the hand by himself no problem. It's great

Scott Peterson Yeah the new suit is super awkward looking, the black suit had a certain elegance and character to it. Fortunately we shouldn't have to deal with it more than a season before he upgrades to a more lean and stream lined suit.

+Michael Torres im with u go read frank millers man without fear novels matt murdock is only seen once with the black outfit before he decides to dawn the red suit they skipped over that huge arc in the character to make things more realistic .in the comics up until this point matt didnt want to be in hells kitchen didnt want to do wat he ultimately wound up doing they dont show him struggle with that choice here .in this show he likes being a vigiliante its fucking dumb the show was alright but im smarter than that to be elevating it up to something more than what it should be

I love that Matt isn't this unbeatable Martial Artist & instead he improves over the course of the series but despite his improvement there are still people who are capable of matching/beating him.
Yeah. They always make sure to pit him against opponents with skills or powers that he hadn't previously faced in order to keep him on his toes for the major fights. I'm sure if we got a one shot of him fighting random thugs today, he'd mop the floor with them.

I like that this guy really gives Matt a run for his money. As far as a straight street fight, it’s the most evenly matched fight in the series besides the fight with Kingpin at the end of this season. Matt probably had some respect afterwards.
Kingpin was actually surprised that Daredevil took this guy out, he must've been one of Kingpin's greatest and I can see why
He is the guy that got Fisk to finally start paying attention to the man in black.
when i feel tired studying and am almost done but feel like giving up, i always replay this scene in my head and in particular his dad telling him "get to work". it works!

Agreed the dude put up more of a fight than punisher did against daredevil who almost easily countered every move from punisher and knocked Punisher down before he pulled out his gun because he's like "fuck it I'm gonna shoot the red dude from a distance 😈" 😂

If DD had a high tech suit that made him more durable and also helps him save a lot of his endurance then he would outclass guys like Batman and Arrow, the only advantage they have over him is $$$$$ and don't tell me '' they'll use sonic weapons'' , DD has fought Klaw who is basically a sonic weapon and beaten him and has been doing his vigilante tenure and enduring all the pain without a high tech suit.
Amazing show !!! Love the fight scenes and how complex kingpin personality is...Charlie cox at first when I saw a few pics on the set I didn't like him but now I love him !!! And his stunt is amazing (same stunt guy than captain America)

Does Daredevil in this show have physical hypersensitivity as well? Wondering if pain is magnified for him like his other senses. In the Ben Affleck film they show him chewing on pain relief pills.

Tactile nerve endings have different receptors for different type of stimuli. One type to register temperature change, one type to register pressure, one type to register puncture damage, one type to register pleasant caresses etc.
For example, we are much more sensitive to puncture damage on our hands, feet and face than on the back, or stomach.
But this is sci-fi, so it can probably be explained by Matt simply having enough pain tolerance & willpower to ignore most abuse. In the comics he willed himself back from death, after all. Admittedly, Stick had to track down his soul and threaten to kick his ass in the afterlife if Matt didnt go back to his body, but he still did it.
What I love about Daredevil TV is that fights don't last 10 seconds
considering that matt is able to see things through,touch hearing and smell.the vibrations that the rain drops would make,would give him a nearly perfect sight (well as perfect as he can get) so hes kinda of op in the rain

I like how all the netflix MCU series have a seriousness that fits the character. Daredevil, although enhanced, is very easily killed. Same weaknesses, jessica jones although strong, was entirely about being mind controlled which even with all her strength she cant control, and now with luke cage, his series is much different because its not so much about WHETHER he can stop the crime, its, HOw and what and where and the best way to go about doing it, and the consequences of using your power to stop crimes, not so much whether youc an actually do it or not. im excited to see the atmosphere of iron fist. is it going to feel more like jessica jones? or daredevil?

Um, I don’t think Daredevil is enhanced... his blindness just makes his other senses high as heck. Also, his years of training from Stick helps.

Netflix made a MASSIVE mistake when they cancelled this show!

Ah I wish the flashback wasn’t completely cut out. I felt like that flashback was a really powerful scene, it showed what drives him
Hopefully the series goes back to the visceral, impressive style showcased here. Having him fight hundreds of ninjas seemed lackluster compared to this.

This was one of the Kingpin's best fighters at the time. He's why Fisk started to pay closer attention to Matt moving forward. That and Matt wasn't as skilled as he later became.

And despite daredevil taking effort against Rance and john healy, punisher and bullseye on the other hand were both easily dominated by daredevil who took effort by Rance and john and the way they actually fight against daredevil for another thing is actually more skillful and quicker in combat than frank and bullseye were and melvin potter still managed to give matt a harder brawl in close combat than bullseye did in the close quarter combat
That's probably because guys like Punisher and Bulleyes are trained in hand to hand but use weaponry as their main form of combat and use hand to hand as a last resort
I chalk that up to Rance and Healy being the first that Matt had ever gone up against at the time who were simply that skilled. Like I'm certain that Punisher and Bullseye are better. I'd also wager that they'd be very easy to subdue at this point in DD's career.

this was better than the nobu fight and that was suppose to be one of the biggest fights in the series. they didn't really put much effort in nobu fight. at the beginning it was getting really cool. but close to the end after the knives it was just "Oh daredevil runs away while getting sliced." if they wanted to go that approach they might as well had him evade off of walls and stuff to get away instead of running. I wanted more ffort into daredevil trying to beat him. they could have made it better
Davone Doyle The Daredevil vs Nobu had a lot of effort put into it as Nobu is a martial arts assassin and he's a member of the hand so Daredevil was clearly outmatched but he still managed to put up a fight even when he was heavily cut up across most of his body, It's brutal plus the fact he didn't back down from fighting Kingpin even when he was severely injured.
Daniel Hindson I get that but towards the end he just ran away basically. I love that fight too but when I compare it to this one. well this is much better. throughout the series after episode 2 they get real sloppy with their fight scenes like the final battle and nobu. I just enjoy this more. but I think that's because steven de knight. he only directed a couple episodes. the episodes he directed was the ones towards the end and those were the worst ones to me. it felt everything got escalated then it slowed down and the finale is where it picked up a bit but it still wasn't the best episode
Davone Doyle Anyway I'm more excited for the Netflix future with Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and Iron Fist being on a team for the first time and I always wanted to see a fight between Daredevil and Iron Fist it could be like Iron Man and Thor on their first encounter. The Punisher, Elektra and Bullseye need to be introduced somewhere down the line.

I think one reason daredevil wins a lot of his fights is because people usually think he's completely blind (especially with this outfit) so they underestimate him and think that it's gonna be an easy fight
His enemies don't know he's blind.

Peter Washington Subconsciously some henchmen would hold themselves back. Imagine if you were about to fight a kid that was a black belt in karate. Like, yeah, you know he's good at fighting, but still, subconsciously you remind yourself that he's a kid and that makes you sort of hold yourself back from giving the fight 100% effort

How did Daredevil struggle against this random assassin yet he can defeat Iron Fist and hold his own against an overpowered Elektra?
Hamza Khaliq This was when he was first starting to be a vigilante when he fought Iron Fist and Elektra he was way more of an experienced fighter
He was still new as a vigilante in here, in defenders he was wayyyy more experienced and skilled, you can see through almist each episode he learns from his mistakes there's a video called "daredevil:each punch has a purpose" and it explains it, plus i think he should not be able to win against Danny but whatever it's the defenders fault
Because this was the beginning of his vigilante days, he's still very inexperienced. In The Defenders, he has way more experience. Not to mention, in Season 2 Stick also teaches him how to track the pattern of his opponent's breathing in order to anticipate an attack, which proves to be far more effective than his previous methods of tracking their heartbeats.
Compare this to the trash handing of Daredevil in She Hulk.

Not every random thug. Fisk makes sure he hires the best help he can afford so of course a good chunk of the opponents DD faces in this season are highly skilled.
