    13:20 Any GPS equipped plane has a Direct To feature. Not all planes are equipped with GPS. I've flown many hours in planes without integrsted GPS using a pilot GPS map on my phone. The option in the watch is nice as a backup, or a backup to a backup. In my case integrated>tablet>phone>watch(if I had one)>paper maps. Anything that keeps me away from referring to the paper maps is a holy gift from God.

    Honestly I just dig the look of the Tactix (a bit) more... even though I am in the arm forces I don't think I'll use the extra features much. I've had Fenix watches since the 3HR and these things are just insanely good. Ive beaten these beasts to the max and they just are indestructible!!! I've dived, jumped, swim every day, mud, heat, just name it these watches are just amazing.

      @Chase The Summit Yeah I love the extra features of the Tactix 7, I’ve been in the British army since 1990 & I would use some of the extra features & totally understand the aviation info which I was surprised that in most cases give me enough info to takeoff & fly towards my destination plus the cut commas would be good as I have had to collect all of the smart watches that our guys may use in the field as it would give our location away & can actually put a virus in our systems should a guy get infected & then connect it to a laptop. The kill switch would b useful on a VERY bad day. Yup 👍 the tactix 7x is certainly the watch for me 😁😁😎

    I’ve had the Fenix series watches for many years, and now the Tactix Delta Solar. Love it. The combination of solar with sapphire lens was a major selling point. After a year of use, I can say the solar does actually work in the sense that it mitigates power loss noticeably. Also, the nylon strap is not only comfortable and robust, but also shows virtually no signs of wear after a year. Although it is purely subjective, of course, I think the Tactix series watches look great as well.

    • @bsmukler
      @bsmukler 2 года назад +1

      Not really. You can get carried away, trying to see a difference in RUclips videos or in photos. In practice, the sapphire screens are fine, in fact crystal clear in sunlight. I have since sold the Tactix Delta Solar and now have the Fenix 7x Sapphire Solar, with identical screen clarity. Battery performance is incredible.

    • @bsmukler
      @bsmukler Год назад +1

      The Garmin Fenix Solar watches (unlike the Instinct Solar) use Solar to augment the battery life, not to fully replace traditional charging. There is a lot more going on in those devices than, say, a solar powered G-Shock, which could in fact run virtually indefinitely on solar. Yes, the Fenix Solar charging is effective, and does slow the otherwise normal battery charge depletion, and I would say the Fenix series is extremely reliable. As far as lifespan is concerned, it is mostly a matter of how long the owner wants to keep their watch. Garmin does keep updating the software on legacy watches for several years, and of course you could keep using the watch anyway, even without updates.

    Hey Dave, the reason I’d choose the Tactix 7 is pretty simple, as an avid mountain hunter, the GPS capability is a must, but honestly, the Fenix 7 provides the same functionality. As a flight medic, servicing remote mountainous regions, the aviation capabilities and night vision, something we use regularly, is really a must. Perfect watch for that situation and that’s why I’d spend the money

    Garmin sure knows how to build quality watches. That tactix 7 sure looks like a tank!!!…I own a Fenix 3HR since 2017. Got it at $299 on a special deal at a local store and to this day, still performs as good as the first day I bought it. The case itself have scratches but the sapphire crystal still unscratched. Battery still last almost 2 weeks in watch mode, don’t know smart watch numbers since I just use it as a watch an only connect it to a phone to sync workouts. I use it everyday, just take it off for charging hahaha. I used it while deployed to middle east, it has survive a lot of punishment. I am impressed and also sad thinking some day will die on me after all these years of serving me so well. It sure does show its age when compare to more recent models and would love to get one of those tactix models since I first saw the tactix Charlie but they are a bit expensive and on top of that, this one has sentimental value for me after all we have gone through.

    I've had a variety of tactix and fenix series of watches over the years and I thought this was a pretty good review that summed up all the features and differences for people. I also think you are pretty much spot on when you guess that if people need tactix series features, they already know it. I use the stealth feature on an older model regularly because of job requirements. I also use some of the aviation features of one of the older models. I love that this one wraps all of that up in one model. Good review.

    13:50 When you’re shooting at a long distance, the bullet trajectory will depend of a lot of factors, including initial speed, aerodynamic coefficient of the bullet, wind, or even things such gravity and earth rotation. So contrary to most game where you just point and click and it would kill the target even if it’s really far, in reality it doesn’t work that way. You need to take count of all factor to adjust your point of aim to be different from the target you want to reach. That’s why you have a way to adjust aim on rifles and rifle scopes. So, when a sniper will need to reach a target, s/he will evaluate the distance and then apply the correct adjustments to make sure s/he can aim at the target and the bullet will go exactly where it was meant to be. Snipers can have a sort of small calculator that will also measure wind, it’s manufactured by Applied Ballistics. However, it’s one more thing to carry, it can be lost, destroyed or else… so having a watch that have onboard applied ballistics calculator, it will allow a Sniper to have a backup and use the watch as a way to know the appropriate adjustment values according to the distance of the target. I hope it can help to understand this feature… so long story short, it’s a feature for (long distance) shooters, so very specific to military, LEO and sport shooters.

  • @Feintgames
    @Feintgames 2 года назад +9

    A few of the features you mentioned are available on the Fenix 7 (or 6) but with a different name. The "Kill Switch" is just a factory reset which is in the menu on previous watches. The METAR is available on the Garmin app store for free from a private developer. Night vision mode could be simulated by lowering the watch's display output, but probably not as dark. The LED mode is different and the ballistics calculator isn't available outside of the Tactix series. But I would argue that even though the ballistics calculator is pretty robust, I would instead use a dedicated ballistics app on your phone or on a separate device because entering values into your watch is rather tedious. I do like the lack of solar ring, though that negatively impacts battery life maybe. I'm just not sure this is better than a Fenix 6X or a previous Tactix generation to justify the price. And a nylon band that costs that much is pretty sad.

    • @ChaseTheSummit
      @ChaseTheSummit  2 года назад +1

      For sure, Kill Switch is just a factory reset. The uniqueness of it is just how quickly you can access it. Comparing it to the 6X isn't really fair. It's basically just a very unique Fenix 7X and if you like the look and somewhat niche features it may be worth the $200-$300 premium price.

    • @danscoular
      @danscoular 2 года назад +2

      You’re right, and yes you can factory reset. The kill switch is nothing more than a shortcut, but given its purpose, a shortcut is necessary.
      I have tried using a Fenix with the backlight turned down to 5% at night and around NVGs and is it far, far too bright. Actually the focusing on my NVGs is all wrong for looking at my wrist, and actually reading the watch but it allows acceptable light discipline.
      Likewise I am sure there’s a way to switch off all data connections and recording, but stealth mode is reassuring.

  • @VladBarrett
    @VladBarrett 2 года назад +1

    Hi! Here are my 5 cents.
    After 3 months of using this tactical nylon band, I would definitely conclude, it is as durable as horrible at the same time. When you are wearing your watch 24/7 when sleeping, in the shower, or in training, the band starts smelling like the 1-week socks of a marathon runner. In a case of a regular silicone strap after a simple wash with soap, it helps, but with a nylon one - it is not the case. I've been trying even putting the band into the washing machine in a jeans pocket, then leaving it for a full day just to make it dry completely, and after a day of wearing the situation with smell repeats. But the smell is one side of the medal, the other one is how uncomfortable the nylon strap is, absolutely non-flexible, non-convenient, and the metal lugs add so much noise when jogging or training. So, my personal marks are 5/5 for durability, looks, the quality of metal lugs and buckle, and 1/5 for the convenience of everyday usage. Maybe I would change it back from silicone one to tactical nylon only for hiking or wakeboarding/surfing/motocross when extra durability is a key, but for regular usage - silicone is the best possible option.

    I went with this watch as an anniversary gift for my boyfriend. He’s an outdoorsy guy and serious hunter. The Apple Watch didn’t do it for him and the smartwatch features weren’t super necessary, only wanted the basics. He was really looking for a nice chrono watch with basic smart features actually but I saw this and had to get it. I think what sold me was everything it had he would actually use and all that it has to keep him safe for my peace of mind. He’s been out hunting where he got so dehydrated he was hospitalized. I like that it measures stress and sleep to factor in more water and let him know when he needs more. He does shoot with rifles and has gone to ranges to make adjustments. I think for hunting, it will help him see what lands are public or private and mark what spots will be best for hunting and minimize how much he has to drive around figuring it out. I thought about the MARQ because it definitely has more of the look he was going for but at much more of a premium and with half the features as this, I think he will love this. He was looking at the $200 range of fossils and citizens but their software stunk and I don’t think he would’ve had a good experience using them. I know $1600 is a lot and I’d never want or need him to spend that on me, but he’s worth it and anything that helps him be healthier and safer is all I need. We also train together at our home gym so this literally does it all and I think it’ll be perfect. I wish it came with a titanium band but I’m debating the Garmin one and that way, it can be more dressy when he needs it to be. I was first looking at the polar grit x pro titan, that was my budget. But then was looking at the fénix 7x pro sapphire solar. I think what pushed me over was ultimately the ballistics and features he would use plus it does look much nicer and more of the style he was wanting. The other watches just try to copy each other and look like Apple Watches or just smooth bands. Too sporty. We aren’t runners, pilots etc, but yeah, I didn’t think I’d be spending so much but from what I could see, to have all you’re looking for, you have to be at the $500+ range. The cheaper watches just have poor software and battery life etc. I’d rather spend this on something like this than simply a designer watch that only tells time. I really just hope he likes it.

    Hello, I’ve had this watch for a little while now and didn’t 100% know what I was getting into as I’ve never had a nice techy device besides a smartphone. I’ve found the tactix 7 to actually be extremely useful. I travel a lot for competition shooting and the ballistics I save in conjunction with temp and altitude from the watch saves me a ton of time making on the fly adjustments and they’ve all been very accurate. Initially needed the GPS and that has saved space from carrying around maps and bulkier devises. Sometimes I’m out for over a week at a time without the ability to charge so the solar helps ease my worry about bat life. Tons more to say but I like finding excuses to use all the features which adds to having something like this. Get out there and have an adventure any way you can.

    I would love the Tactix and absolutely use some of the extra features like NV-lighting and stealth (being a comms guy I know how vulnerable RF emissions can make you.) I think it’s a little funny that the watch has green instead of red, since we tend to use red when not under nods. White green and red would’ve been the best combo. I’m hoping to pick one up but I’ll wait until Black Friday. Maybe it’ll drop under a grand for the top end one?

    Here's my use case. Just bought the Tactix 7 Pro. As a pilot, I wanted to buy the next iteration of the D2 Delta, to replace my aging D2 Charlie.
    Problem is, the D2 Echo never surfaced. Instead we got the Marq Aviation (older generation), the D2 Air (no maps) and now the D2 Mach 1 (no solar, just 11 days of battery in smartwatch mode and about 24 hours with GPS). None of these watches fit the bill. What I want is a watch with aviation navigation features that also lasts weeks between charges in city life and sustains days of hiking with solar.
    There's only one candidate: the Tactix 7 Pro.

For me personally I just wanted a watch that could do absolutely everything and I didn’t mind spending the money. I wear it every day, including to bed, to monitor sleep patterns and HR patterns…useful for workout endeavors. It was definitely a pricey pick but given the use I get from it and how long I expect it to last, well worth it to me. The maps are great for hiking/camping and setting waypoints for preferred routes. It is a large watch so it may not be for everyone just for that reason, but I’m of appropriate size for it and it doesn’t feel clunky. The battery life is phenomenal and it’s unbelievably light for the size and features. Highly recommend.

    So basically, no one needs this watch short of certain jobs in the military. Hunters surely don't need the watch, but I'm sure they'll all claim they do. You don't need anything but a timex to waddle 200yds. from your pickup truck to your treestand. The average hiker has far more requirements from a watch than a hunter. The only reason there's so much interest is because all a company has to do is market something as "tactical" and there's a large segment of the US population who will pay anything for it, namely the least tactical people.

While the Fenix series does a great job with my daily workouts and outdoor adventures, I do hunt and enjoy shooting. Also, I am also a professional pilot. While the aviation information is "neat", I will probably never use it at work. However, the ability to get the weather information from a nearby airport while out and about is very useful. The fact Garmin sell aircraft avionics - especially nav related - I'm sure puts those flying features on the watch on a sport pilot's wishlist - making the price insignificant.
    And military personnel know the risks now of data leakage from fitness apps compromising security so those features are going to trickle down to other models and brands maybe.
    Garmin are also competing with G-Shock in this space I guess with the cool factor v functionality tricky to balance.

    Hey, Enjoyed your video. I think I am going to go with the Tactix 7. Two reasons really, one is I do like the look of the watch and when you are spending that much money anyway, what's a couple hundred more? The second reason is I watched a different video about the watches and that video mentioned the Hunt mode. Apparently, in that mode you can save waypoints with certain sightings, like deer, moose, etc. I am not a hunter but will be using the watch for hiking/camping and thought I could use this to document various campsites/interesting spots along the way, etc. The other thing is that I like the knurled buttons, silly though it may seem. I figure to wear the watch 24/7 and over time those subtle niceties become more important..... One other thing is the fact that the Tactix comes with the extra band that closes the cost difference gap somewhat. Those are just my thoughts/justifications for my decision.

      Now that you mention it. Yes the buttons feel a bit more stable but it’s subtle. Thanks for sharing.

      I felt this way also coming from the EPIX, the buttons on the Tactix 7 feel more consistent across the board during operation.

    In my opinion !All is good but if you have long sleeve the watch buttons are to easy to push and that makes the watches good only for ??
    We cant have watches in the field and have them to activate every time you bump it !! Its unusable for any serious use!!
    Thank you!
    Great videos.

      Not sure I understand? The buttons are not easy to accidentally push unless you've got something right on top of them.

    the fluo green strap really is the last thing you'd want on a tactic watch

    7:40 green LED is no better for night vision, just read papers from the railway workers or astronomy crowd. Though it fits the color of Tritium lamps the Brits use and some sights on small arms.

      It's easier to see things in the dark with the same night vision saving abilities as red. It's used on flight decks for that reason. The only reason red is preferred in the field is that red diffuses a bit more quickly, so it's harder to see at a distance.

    I’m disappointed you didn’t go out and buy a M-16 and a crate of ammo to test the ballistic accuracy. 🙂 Another fun review-that’s the closest I will get to the T7. At $2100CAD, that costs more than my beater car.

    I own a tactix Delta Solar and the only reason I went for that model, is because of how it looks; it's smoking hot!!!
