@@_J.F_Wait. So you are telling me the Garmin Tactix those Delta guys wear while pictured shaking Biden's hand after Oct 7 are not standard issue?!?!?!?
Time another question...Does the Garmin Tactix 7 Pro have a DLC titanium coating, like the Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire? Since it is not mentioned on the Garmin page!
Will definitely be looking to replace my Charlie with this guy. Super sick and tired of draining the battery by bumping the GPS button, which was fixed in the Delta but there wasn't enough of an upgrade to justify the cost. Love the people in the comments "buh is it really worth it buh" Well if my life potentially depends on being able to read that GPS grid under night vision, yeah I'd say it's worth it. Lots of the little stuff is niceties, but that one feature alone is critical, speaking from experience.
I cannot imagine a situation where I would be wearing night vision and my life being dependent on looking at my watch to know where I was. It's a nice watch but, the extra features do not benefit me, which is fine, I got the Fenix 7X SS. In the UK, you are paying £200 for a slightly different bezel, a green LED and some software tweaks. If I did need those features, I would be issued with it and not have to rely on a civilian watch. But, that's just my opinion.
@@pauljnelson Clearly you're not in the Canadian Military. I was in a LAV that snapped a radio antenna, had no backup radio, no DAGR, no TACNAV, had literally nothing but my watch and I had to be able to read it under night vision while moving. So while it's neat to say "it'd be issued" that's an absolute fallacy for a lot of units and a lot of jobs. The existing solutions often aren't as good as what's available on the private market either, and the update time on most DAGR system's is awful long for anything time sensitive like fire missions. Hell I had a DAGR shit the bed on my section commander's course. I'm good with a map and compass but it's a lot more effective when trying to recce a location to have a GPS.
@@justinpeck3667 you're right, I'm not, I'm in the British Military. We're taught not to rely on technology, it's there as a back up. Besides, there are much better private handhelds that have better accuracy, resiliance and longevity. This is a watch with small GPS antennas plus, despite its battery stamina, cannot easily be recharged in the field. Hardly something is be willing to bet my life on when required.
@@pauljnelson Yeah maps don't work so good at 30km/h cross country in the dark, ask me how I know. I've worked with lots of Brits you can't lie to me- you like your toys as much as the next group- the difference is your issued toys work. As far as accuracy you obviously haven't used one much, because despite the small antenna the accuracy is roughly +/- 5m and the update cycle is far faster than a DAGR. Prior to the Tactix my backup was a 701: similar size, similar antenna, no issues with accuracy or tracking. I still the 701 dismounted as it takes AAA's but I've used the Tactix with the GPS frequently for 11 day light exes without running out of power. I'm also primarily mechanized so power is less of an issue and GPS becomes more important. Again, sure it's a backup, but if your TACNAV shits the bed good luck navigating with a map. Hard to pace bead a vehicle cross country. But I've only used it in like 7 countries and all kinds of terrain, totally untrustworthy compared to the Queen's solution.
@@justinpeck3667 there's a difference between liking toys and being reliant on them. As for using Garmin watches, you've made an assumption there, I've had one since the Fenix 5, through the 6X Pro and now the 7X SS. The last one uses exactly the same as the Tactix 7 with the same accuracy. If it works for you, that's fine but, the Tactix is a niche product that many don't need and are just as entitled to their opinion as anyone else. It does not make your choice any less valid.
Now the downside is I rarely see the tactix line go on sale compared to the Fenix line. I'm waiting until closer to black Friday or cyber Monday before I make my final choice
Ya I can’t recall ever seeing the Delta go on sale but that seems to be the case for more specialty units where they simply don’t sell the same volume.
Last tactix "delta" is still one of my favorite, and should upgrade from fenix just on design of the bezel ..:) For sure not use all func. but the delta back when that came out made my Fenix looks crap..:) Waiting on my Tactix 7 now..:)
Thanks for your review! It almost seems that the “base” Tactix might hit that sweet spot that you can’t get in a full size Fenix7x… which is a full size watch with the flashlight but none of the solar to “cloud up” the screen. Do you think the non-solar Tactix would be more viewable because of this? I love my Fenix 7x pro solar, but have to admit that those extra layers of solar, touch an sapphire have made the screen pretty aweful compared to the previous top of the line Fenix 6x. Thanks
I don't think the removal of solar would make any difference - it's more of sapphire vs non-sapphire. There is a slight difference between the Tactix 7 Pro vs the Fenix 7X Solar (non-sapphire) that are shown in the video whereas the sapphire has a little bit more glare at some angles.
My Fēnix 7 sapphire titanium pro was very clear and crisp. Tried the 6s and it had poor contrast oddly. Got the 7x SS and it’s by far the most cloudy screen. I’ve been experimenting with various versions, and I don’t think it’s the sapphire unless it’s something unique to Garmin’s sapphire crystal. I have high end watches with sapphire that are perfectly clear head on-maybe some glare to the side. Personally, I think it may be a combination of factors for the 7, but the main one may be the touchscreen layer. Not sure though, many companies can achieve perfectly clear screens with touchscreens. I also tried the 7 Solar with no sapphire glass and it was still cloudy looking. My 6 Pro Titanium was VERY clear but no solar. Anyone with a non-solar 7 able to weigh in?
@@mantykarhu I pulled the trigger and ordered a Tactix 7 (from a trusted company with a great return policy) to compare side by side to my Fenix 7xPro Solar Sapphire. I could tell an immediate difference in general "readability" of the screens. I have managed to get some good pics that are pretty explanatory, but I guess can't post on here. The lettering on the Tactix is just brighter, crisper and easier to see in everyday settings. The black background looks blacker and makes the black background of the 7x look slightly maroon. Not to mention, the absence of the solar ring is just cleaner. I've not seen significant gains in battery from the last two generations of solar Fenix's that I've owned, so doing away with that solar layer, in my humble opinion, makes this screen just a bit clearer... enough to be like my good old non-solar Fenix 5 and early 6. I prefer the more modern appearing bezel on the T7 and have already removed most of the "tactical stuff" which I won't use and set it up just like my F7 for running and other regular sports activities. I'm SUPER happy with the standard Tactix and after 4 or 5 straight generational upgrades through the Fenix line, will be selling the F7xSS.
Sapphire is always always always better. Not even sure why there is a debate. It's either you can afford the sapphire or you can't. There is a reason Rolex glass and all other glass of high end watches are sapphire. My tactix 7 pro sapphire solar non ballistics comes in next week. I never thought I'd put down my Rolex but the health data and monitoring of things has become important . GARMIN will be my new primary watch.
@@keithcooper6905 Hey, I have been trying I find comparisons of this! seems some people don't understand and think they look the same but from some photos it seems obvious! is there anyway of seeing the photos you have to compare? Would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks for the thorough information, really like all the videos that you make. If I buy a garmin watch, will I be able to use all the features including maps, navigation and gps tracking, etc while having business trips to other countries, like asia or europe?
Interesting, as youo'd think the Tactix would have a higher lip, something I prefer, more akin to the G-Shock level of protection. It's strange that they would go slimmer on the Tactix.
Hi! I work from home and walk my dog three times a day. I'm no pro, but I'm pretty good at throwing the ball at my dog. Do I need the Tactik 7 Pro Ballistic? Thank you ...
I find it REALLY strange that Garmin went with the green LED on the T7. In training we have always been taught that the light that is less easily seen by the enemy is dark red. Having a green light burst like this will not only destroy your natural night vision but will immediately reveal your position in the field! Ridiculous
Since they’re already packing tons of feature in the Tactix. Might as well put in SCUBA and freediving activity profiles in there to make it sort of like an “end game” watch.
I think there may be a difference in the water resistance rating from their dive watches to this model with 10ATM. I actually have a question out to them about it and will try to get back to confirm.
Solar or die. I live in the desert and shoot 🔫 in the mountains. Worst case scenario, solar is your best friend. Nice review, I would like to see more of the phone to watch reviews for everyday wear. Thanks 👍
I posted a vid on youtube of me testing the tactix7 solar by leaving it in the sun at 78% battery for more than an hour and checking plus testing it throughout the day for several more hours… still stayed at 78%….
Thank you. I had a question . Why is it that the sapphire glass is not dark on the G-Shock watches but the sapphire glass is dark on the Garmin watches?
Thanks for a very useful review. For information such as at 9.32 . Do we need to connect with wifi and phone to get all these real time info on the watch ? Thank you and keep up the great work. Subscribed and liked ❤
At the end I picked up Fenix 7 instead of 7x because 7x is quite a big watch and it looks like an alarm clock on the wrist , it's quite impractical and annoying during climbing.
do you happen to know if the metal hardware on the nylon strap is titanim as well, or stainless? reason for my question is that I have a metal allergy and cannot wear stainless.
I love the old tactic delta and this one is great but new watch faces are really unreadable, so small! One of the best feature of the old Tactix was the clean design and readable watchface.
hey fellas, I got tactic 7 pro 1,5 year is just daaaamn good quality, way over Apple Watch or samsung. but keep updating, sometimes might get you troubleshooting too(had battery issue, time sync or altimeter problem)
Hi, i have a question. For the fenix 7x sapphire do they do same thing as the fenix 5x sapphir? Like, for example: in the fenix 5x sapphire edition you can add the lbs of the weights when working out?
How do the buttons feel on your tactix 7? Coming from a remix 6x, it’s like there is more travel and even some rattle on the tactix buttons… at least on the one I picked up. My Felix buttons feel solid in comparison
Sapphire in general (regardless of solar charging) is more reflective which may make it seem less clear than gorilla glass. For me, I barely notice it but for others it can make a difference. However, I’m also one who would prefer to worry less about scratches with the activities I do than a minor difference in clarity.
Nope, the Delta is based on the Fenix 6 series and the Tactix 7 is based on the Fenix 7 so the underlying base software and fitness features are different. I believe the tactical features are similar though.
I’m just a mountain biker and backpacker who likes the style of the Tactix over a 7x SS. No HALO jumping for this guy. I mean, when you are already in the $1k range for a watch, what’s another hundo?
@@DesFit I currently have a Fenix 5x Sapphire and think I just want a change in appearance since I’m “upgrading” for some of the new features on the latest watches. Just curious, have you heard about a difference in clarity of the solar sapphire glass on a F7x versus the non-solar Sapphire on the standard Tactix 7? Some users have reported the solar glass seems to look “foggier” than the non-solar version, especially indoors. Appreciate the great content!
What do you think about Software Version 13.22 - Backlight Bug? Your backlight always turn on when viewing maps, starting a new GPS activity, etc.. No way to turn backlight completely off.
Excellent review.... I just bought a tactix 7 pro My biggest problem is that I can't find the widget hunt.....and one of the reasons that I bought it is that I am a hunter...could you give me a solution please?
It should be available at the bottom of the list of activities (upper right hand button) but if it's not there you should be able to add it (the + option at the bottom of the list). Hope that helps. Thanks!
i feel the left button click feel is not same as the right (fenix 7x), is there anyone have the same problem? the left button feels like has a half click status, like th camera focus status
@DesFit what is the best sport and everyday watch between enduro 2 fenix 7x ss and tactix 7 pro according your opinion. whats is the soze of nylon tactical strap and ultrafit strap? thanks and good job
Update firmware 13.22 : Garmin has changed the backlight behavior : " The new backlight behavior is the intended result for the v13.22 software update. For example - the backlight will turn on when: - Acquiring GPS to start an outdoor activity or when acquiring GPS to save a location waypoint. - Viewing the Map whether by itself as a feature or within an activity. - Going into the Sunrise & Sunset glance and viewing the Sun position menu on the map." the behavior described above has been introduced by Garmin with update to 13.22, and can NOT be disabled by the user ! The switching on of the lighting in the above mentioned cases is inevitable and can NOT be deactivated by the user. This is also confirmed by Garmin. With this, Garmin has made this actually tactical watch unusable for the military, because there is no option to disable this. I look at the map in the field and give away my position by the light. Life threatening. The problem is discussed in the forum, and Garmin's statement: "This backlight behavior is intentional and we have no plans to change it.
Shame that the "hunt" profile is reserved for the Tactix, it would be right at home on the regular Fēnix series watches. While I'm sure there's crossover between military and hunters, I've personally never needed night vision or a Killswitch to hunt Pennsylvania whitetail, but I'd love to have the hunt profile on my 6x pro, I just can't justify the cost of the Tactix for the access to it.
It's kind of crazy that it's green I'm not sure if it's become the norm but I know my buddies fighting in conflics now are only using red if they use a light, beyond that a red light is better at seeing blood for hunting, I'm not sure why they went green when there's been countless studies on red vs green light affecting nightvision and professionally the red like is considered your best option due to its effectiveness at not being seen from a distance vs green, I may have a bunch wrong. but the green light on a tactical watch feels less professional. Anyone else know more and can explain?
It was well over 2 years from the Tactix Detla to the Tactix 7. I'd anticipate quite a while before they release a new version since the 7 just came out last year.
In your opinion, should I get the Coros vertix 2 or the Garmin Fenix 7X? I know the latter option is newer, but I hear the vertix 2 has a longer battery life, can't confirm that though lol. Is the fenix 7X really worth 1k USD???
Check out this video which gives some real-world comparisons between the Vertix 2 and Enduro 2 (which is just a Fenix 7X with even longer battery life). ruclips.net/video/JelJnlIX2MA/видео.html If the longest battery life is your main concern, yes the Vertix 2 has longer battery life but the Fenix 7X and Enduro 2 have substantially more features.
Question as well - what of the new watches are you liking the best for daily use? Going Epix like everyone else? Can’t believe the nylon band is $129 if you buy it separately - crazy. And last - good lord could Garmin get any better at specialized functions, settings, and features?! All of these are incredible if you’re in that field. Even Hunt profile is crazy!

Echo and Foxtrot would work, but Golf presents problem with their Golf focused watches.
Excellent explainer video. Many thanks for clarifying the differences between these two very capable watches.
Glad the information helped. Thanks!
Damn sir this is a great review, im a backcountry hunter and long range shooter so i think im gonna pony up and get this
Time another question...Does the Garmin Tactix 7 Pro have a DLC titanium coating, like the Garmin Fenix 7X Sapphire? Since it is not mentioned on the Garmin page!
I was hoping you were going to fly a plane to properly test that "fly" activity. ✈️ So close!
I like things with wheels. Wings? I'll let someone else handle that 😁
😄😄
😂
Will definitely be looking to replace my Charlie with this guy. Super sick and tired of draining the battery by bumping the GPS button, which was fixed in the Delta but there wasn't enough of an upgrade to justify the cost.
Love the people in the comments "buh is it really worth it buh"
Well if my life potentially depends on being able to read that GPS grid under night vision, yeah I'd say it's worth it.
Damn, incredible comparison! Thanks.
You’re welcome and thanks!
Damn, it does everything 😊 Thank you👏🏾
Really informative video, thanks for posting this.
Sure thing! Thanks!
Last tactix "delta" is still one of my favorite, and should upgrade from fenix just on design of the bezel ..:) For sure not use all func. but the delta back when that came out made my Fenix looks crap..:)
Waiting on my Tactix 7 now..:)
Any idea if the Tactix 7 will get the upgraded software features such as shaded relief maps and such like the Fenix Pro Series got?
Did anybody counts how many time Des said Tactic 7? Thank you Des always great 👍🏼.
Another drinking game would be how many "P"s I said in the Polar Pacer Pro review 😂 Thanks!
@@DesFit 😄😄
Interesting, as youo'd think the Tactix would have a higher lip, something I prefer, more akin to the G-Shock level of protection. It's strange that they would go slimmer on the Tactix.
Perfect, to the point. Thank you!
You're welcome!
Great, let me know what they said.🤙🏼
@@DesFit Any response from Garmin?
Thank you
Sure thing 👍
Hello! You have fascinating tests about fitness watchs! Will u have a test about Withings Scanwatch? It is looking interesting!
I want that bezel on the Epix!
That’d be nice looking 👍
Yes please, i want that too
Very nice des love the look of the tatix great video 👍
Thanks Dusty!
So do you mean the solar actual works ? Its a plus up for battery life?
Great video, Des! 👍👏
Thanks!
do you happen to know if the metal hardware on the nylon strap is titanim as well, or stainless? reason for my question is that I have a metal allergy and cannot wear stainless.
I love the old tactic delta and this one is great but new watch faces are really unreadable, so small! One of the best feature of the old Tactix was the clean design and readable watchface.
Just download one for like 99 cents on the connect store. I have my Charlie running a modified version of the Instinct and it's been perfect.
Really like the look of tactix, more than the fenix.
👍
hey fellas, I got tactic 7 pro 1,5 year is just daaaamn good quality, way over Apple Watch or samsung. but keep updating, sometimes might get you troubleshooting too(had battery issue, time sync or altimeter problem)
Hi, i have a question. For the fenix 7x sapphire do they do same thing as the fenix 5x sapphir? Like, for example: in the fenix 5x sapphire edition you can add the lbs of the weights when working out?
Is the tactix 7 pro better than the marq commander??
How do the buttons feel on your tactix 7? Coming from a remix 6x, it’s like there is more travel and even some rattle on the tactix buttons… at least on the one I picked up. My Felix buttons feel solid in comparison
The 6 series buttons seem to be a little better than both the F7. The Tactix buttons feel better than the F7 but maybe not quite as good as the F6.
"tactical nylon band", now i've seen everything!
Awesome video and channel!
Quick question. Do you have any feedback on the Garmin Decent Mk2/Mk2s for trailrunning and running?
Thanks in advanced.
It will be the same running functionality as the Fenix 6 series. Thanks!
Thank you. purchased :)
Enjoy!
One thing I noticed between the delta and the new tactix, is the new one is much more comfortable than the delta.
Due to the weight?
Tactix 7 Standard has Sapphire crystal without the solar ring, I have read it makes for a better display, easier to see, less washed out..
Sapphire in general (regardless of solar charging) is more reflective which may make it seem less clear than gorilla glass. For me, I barely notice it but for others it can make a difference. However, I’m also one who would prefer to worry less about scratches with the activities I do than a minor difference in clarity.
Is it possible to ask for a list of differences between the different Fenix 7 solar sapphire watches please

@@DesFit hey thank you. Really enjoy your reviews and have subscribed. Can you suggest any large tuff digital watches with big clear faces?
These come with quite a few watch faces and there’s also an enormous amount of 3rd party watch faces you can download via Garmin Connect IQ.
I like design of the bezel. Looks better than the fenix
Great video ... question for you ... is the Software the same on the Delta and the Tactix 7
Nope, the Delta is based on the Fenix 6 series and the Tactix 7 is based on the Fenix 7 so the underlying base software and fitness features are different. I believe the tactical features are similar though.
@@DesFit Thank you.
I’m just a mountain biker and backpacker who likes the style of the Tactix over a 7x SS. No HALO jumping for this guy. I mean, when you are already in the $1k range for a watch, what’s another hundo?
Hey, if you’ve got the means go for it! It certainly does have a distinct look to it vs the Fenix 7. 👍
No way to turn backlight completely off.
so as far as heart rate/GPS accuracy is it the same as fenix/enduro ?
Night vision setting also disables the optical sensors because they act as a huge light beacon to others wearing night vision.
I just got the tactix 7 pro.. does getting the nylon band wet destroy it??
Excellent review....
I just bought a tactix 7 pro
My biggest problem is that I can't find the widget hunt.....and one of the reasons that I bought it is that I am a hunter...could you give me a solution please?
It should be available at the bottom of the list of activities (upper right hand button) but if it's not there you should be able to add it (the + option at the bottom of the list). Hope that helps. Thanks!
@@DesFit fortunately there's not at all....not exist
Helle Des! What is the size of your wrist? And which watch is your daily driver?
I have a 187mm circumference wrist. I tend to rotate through watches. Thanks!
the bezel on this tactix 7 pro looks much nicer than on Enduro 2
Depends on what you are looking for but great that they have some options 👍
can we use debit card wave just with using this watch when make payment at groceries?
i feel the left button click feel is not same as the right (fenix 7x), is there anyone have the same problem? the left button feels like has a half click status, like th camera focus status
That’s interesting. I thought the buttons on the Tactix were positive where the ones on my Epix have some of that half-press feel.
@DesFit what is the best sport and everyday watch between enduro 2 fenix 7x ss and tactix 7 pro according your opinion.
whats is the soze of nylon tactical strap and ultrafit strap?
thanks and good job
Update firmware 13.22 : Garmin has changed the backlight behavior :
" The new backlight behavior is the intended result for the v13.22 software update.
For example - the backlight will turn on when:
- Acquiring GPS to start an outdoor activity or when acquiring GPS to save a location waypoint.
- Viewing the Map whether by itself as a feature or within an activity.
- Going into the Sunrise & Sunset glance and viewing the Sun position menu on the map."
the behavior described above has been introduced by Garmin with update to 13.22, and can NOT be disabled by the user !
I mean, you never know when a Pennsylvania whitetail may turn the tables on you!
What’s the difference between a red led and the green led if they’re both used to maintain night vision?
The red is more for safety and visibility to others on the Fenix 7X
Does the Tactix 7 Pro still have the golf app?
For me it is the bezel of the Tactix. Period.
What is the difference between tactix 7 pro vs aviator?
How intense is the vibration alert? I’m hard of hearing and rely on vibration alarms to wake me up 👀 Thanks
Garmin vibrations tend to be pretty strong
Where’s all that light coming from while your demonstrating the night vision mode? Sure seems to wash out any screen you might see.
Can you use the nylon band on the finex 7x?
Yup! It’s a 26mm QuickFit band that fits the X model Fenix watches 👍
@@DesFit Thanks 😄
The solar ring magically disappears after you use the watch for a while (don't notice it anymore). Fenix 7x Solar
When will the new tactix 8 pro be released?
It was well over 2 years from the Tactix Detla to the Tactix 7. I'd anticipate quite a while before they release a new version since the 7 just came out last year.
What's the size of the glass? 3:34
How is the size of your wrist in centimetres? Please🙏🏻
I have 16,5 cm anda still doubt about te size of Phoenix 7 or 7x. Thanks.
Does the tactix need to be paired with a phone or internet to use GPS?
No, it has an independent, built in GPS chipset
side by side, tactix 7 pro makes the fenix 7x look ancient and unattractive with that bezel.
I’m so jealous of you. I really like the Tactix 7 Pro
And correction - just Standard. Holy cow that night vision backlight! Very very cool highlight of that. Great job
Even though it's a bit big for me I've been using the 7X on a more consistent basis - it's seriously because of the flashlight! I use it constantly.
@@DesFit Yes that’s what I am desperate to use it for! I constantly am using my phone for my flashlight, and periodically grab even a headlamp! Are you not noticing the extra weight? Seriously loved this review because not as many are reviewing it and I’m seriously wrestling with it as a genuine option for me because I love the design over the 7X
