I ended up purchasing a 47 OLED Sapphire to upgrade from my 6pro. Yes it's expensive, but the difference between the 2 watches seems pretty massive and after watching your previous video about if the sapphire screen was worth the update, I went with that. Great vids as per.

Not sure how much more batter we need? Biggest upgrade is for rec scuba divers like myself that dive 4 or 5 times a year on vacations and want a dive watch with their standard rented equipment. Now i dont have to have a separate expensive dedicated dive watch.
Hmm but for some of us that have never bought a training/smartwatch, this thing is the bomb. Glad I waited a few more days to order as I was about to pull the trigger on the Epix2.
I hear you. Which watch would you pick is GPS speed tracking was important to you? I would like it to be able to detect spikes in speed and ignore them unless the speed is sustained for at least 1 or 2 seconds. Is that even possible?
Looking at new Fenix 8 design where they used thin flat tactix bezel … I’m afraid there won’t be any tactix for a while. I love my 7 amoled and only feature I wish to have from fenix 8 is mic/speaker to answer those calls occasionally.
If you take the Fenix 8 and load the Applied Balistics app, you have accomplished the same thing plus, you have a dive computer (if you are into that sort of thing). I bought the Tactix 7 AMOLED this past year and wish that I had waited. I know that this is an early review but, this watch with the new software and added features makes this a perfect watch. I am seriously considering putting my Tactix 7 AMOLED on eBay and grabbing this one.
Agreed. I don’t want to carry my phone around for runs and short hikes, but still want the ability to stay connected. I’ll stick with my Ultra 2 for now while being jealous of Garmin’s battery life
@@Chad-ee2ko For real! It's like, listen, Garmin, I get that I won't use LTE in the backcountry, but that is 3% of my year. My short runs and hikes are 97% of my year, and I want to avoid carrying a brick around while doing those things. Let me choose to turn it off or on!
I do not think that this feature will ever be a good fit due to the way the phone OS’s are tied with the number sharing capabilities. I actually struggled a lot on a recent business trip where i could not have my iPhone with me but, a cellular option on my Tactix would have saved me a lot of pain. Nice early review! I have a Fenix 6S and am debating on upgrading. The new features and software are enticing for sure. I love MIPS and not sure if I want to transition to AMOLED, but there is no small Fenix 8 with MIPS 😢
The addition of the diving feature has made me reconsider purchasing the Descent MK3. I believe there are significant innovations in both design and functionality. First and foremost, the internally sealed buttons are crucial, as many of my friends have experienced issues with the buttons on the Fenix series. The new button design seems more durable. I also notice improvements in the software. Is the $300 price difference for the base version worth it? Considering the diving feature, voice commands, and the inclusion of a speaker and microphone, I think it is.
Just got my first Garmin a week ago coming from Apple. Got a Fenix 6 Pro to see if I wanted to convert. Loving the battery life so far. The 8 seems like it now has the features Apple has that really set the 2 apart other than battery life. Text dictation is a feature I used all the time. Not sure it's worth the extra cost to jump to an 8. It's a pretty hefty price. Great video. Thanks!
Been waiting for this for a long time. Was about to get up and go to the gym but had to watch this first. Def thinking about buying one. Nervous about the price here in the uk but I’m gonna have a look now. Love the steel bezel. Great review. Thanks Dave.
Thanks for another great video Dave! You never disappoint! Now I've always appreciated Garmin's fantastic build quality, industry leading metrics and hyper focus on fitness. I've been a fan for many years owning the Venu, Instinct, Fenix and Epix models. While I recently left the Garmin universe to go all in on the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra (some might cringe, I know), charging $1,100 for the 47mm Fenix 8 is in a word...exorbitant. Garmin's increasing price tiers will no doubt keep people away and perhaps that includes me as I was contemplating a return. I know that the Fenix has always been their flagship and I recognize that they don't make you sign up for a silly subscription to access all of the data but...with these prices they're motivating people to buy older Garmin models that are on sale, used Garmin's on Facebook Marketplace or perhaps, other brands (Apple, Samsung, ??). Ok...my rant is over. It is an amazing watch...but that price tag. Whoa.
I’ve used my Fenix 3 HR Sapphire for the past 8 years and love it! I’m thinking about upgrading to the Fenix 8 🤔 the price is the only thing holding me back
Just ordered F8 AMOLED 51mm, moving from Apple Watch Ultra 1. Tired of getting health info and training suggestions collected in 10 different subscriptions based apps.
@@curtisgoodwin8962Agree. Garmin is way behind at this price point. UI is archaic. Only reason to get a Garmin over AWU would be the insane battery life offered by Garmin relative to Apple

MiP display had gotta be the win, but totally need to save for the HIGH price tag That was a huge feature I wouod have jumped ship on if they didn't include it. Thx for going in depth for the voice recording/mic/ voice command response.
Just the video I've been waiting for! Thank you mate 👍🏾 As an EPIX Pro wearer for the past 6 months (damn I should have waited) I'm very much leaning towards a new purchase. Appreciate your content!
I have Fenix 6x pro and now it is time to get the new one Fenix 8 51mm AMOLED. Using it for exercising and diving. And of course for the mobile phone friend.. ☺️ Just waiting for the to get it. Just ordered it.. 🙃👌
When is your Garmin Fenix E video out? I know you literally just released this one. But interested to know what the E has to offer. The fenix 8 is nice but very expensive.
Garmin's lineup is looking impressive! For Android users like me, choosing between Garmin and Amazfit for fitness is tough. I’m not too concerned with the "smart" features of these fitness watches; my main priorities are having a reliable watch, tracking general fitness and health, running with GPS, long battery life, and comfort. Comfort alone rules out 51mm watches-seriously, who wants to wear something that massive? The leak proof buttons here are a really cool innovation! So well done to Garmin, I like to see things like this hit the market. PS: Sure, over $1000 is a lot, but most users don't need the full set of features it offers. What's cool about it are some of it's most innovative features will trickle down to lower models in the future. Perhaps a $300 Garmin will get those cool buttons, or the dynamic re-routing.
Thanks for the great review as usual. I was waiting for the speaker and microphone feature as that will come in very handy during many of my activities. Looks like the new software is a big improvement both visually and functionality so that is great to see. I ordered mine from Garmin today and should have it in next day or two and can’t wait to try it out. Will be selling my EPIX Gen 2. Thanks again for your hard work.
Ive got the Fenix 6 pro solar and love it, the battery life has spoiled me from getting any other mainstream smartwatch. Was wanting to upgrade to the 8 but that price... Think I'll hold onto the 6 a little longer!
I would love to see the voice feature integrate with setting workouts easily. Right now Garmin's workout builder is slow and clunky, I would love to use the voice feature to say something like start a run with 2 miles at x pace, then 5x0:20 sprints, then recover 5 minutes, repeat sprints, etc or start a hiit workout with 5 rounds of 5 exercises 30 seconds each with no rest in between. That would be amazing!
Ha. I just bought a refurbished Fenix 6 Pro. I like some of the updates, but can't afford spending that much. I figured buying the 6 Pro gives me the functionality I need at a better price.
I have the Fenix 6x Pro which I bought it back in 12/2020. Still works great and the battery life is still decent. I can't see buying an 8x at that price. I am, however, looking a the Polar Grit X Pro 2 which is cheaper and offers a plethora of features along with excellent battery life. So, when the time comes, let's see what happens. Enjoy your 6 Pro, it's a great watch.
The price is insane taking into account that at least for now there are no must-have features compared to Fenix 7 just a never-look with the same functionality.
Maaannnnnn I was SO READY to upgrade my Fenix 7S Sapphire Pro but I dunno if I will. I love the gold faces as a watch I can train with but also wear to work but I was really hoping for a battery life improvement and still have the Solar - as that is handy as a sports teacher and also while out on longer runs. Honestly my dream watch would be the Enduro 43mm gold face with the battery life! I'm happy to sacrifice the Amoled lol. Thank you heaps for these videos. Will be keen to see the later reviews when you've had a chance to use them more.
Was thinking I would go with the 51 mm to gain screen size, but since the screen on the 47 mm is the same size going with Amoled sapphire 47 mm. Looking forward to the speaker & microphone
a really nice watch, but when I saw the price, I realised that I still love my Fenix7 Pro very, very much and will continue to do so for a long time to come
@@bilaltahir9978 tbh i haven't really used those features. I've used the microphone to set a timer a few times which has been super handy to do on the fly. But as far as playback I haven't tested really.
Well its cool that they offer different sizes the 47 and 51 just look dorky on a small to medium size wrists plus it seems like such a large watch would be uncomfortable to run with. The 43 seems like a good balance between being too large and too small.
Thanks for another wonderful review. Do you see the Fenix 8 47mm to be easier to read than the forerunner 965? As an older runner presbyopia makes it harder to read at closer distances, I switched from the Epix gen 2 to the forerunner 965 because the font and size of the letters/numbers was way more readable. I would definitely buy if it is even slightly easier to read.
This was an awesome review and a beautiful watch! This will be a great device despite the increase in price. And I understand why it’s so expensive now with all of the modernized improvements on the software side & screen technology. Garmin could have lowered the price slightly of the current Fénix & Epix lines and reduced the cost of this watch by $100. And I believe this is direct competition for people who like the AWU but know its features & battery are currently lacking. I recently bought the Fénix 7 Pro SS and absolutely love it. As you mentioned, hopefully some of these software updates get passed down to the recent watch generations.
Wearing a Fenix 7X Solar and it is simply a power bank beast with all the activities I do. Fenix 8 Solar is looking great though and I am glad they kept the MIP display with solar version in 51mm, which obviously will be my next watch. Apple watches are completely non-sence to me with a day or two battery life 😅
First Fenix 8 video I’m seeing, so the algorithm seems to be working well. Will definitely use your links if I decide on the 51mm as an update to my 3 yr old Epix 2.
I was excited to hear that the MIP solar version got rid of the solar lens. I’m hoping the MIP looks as good as it did on the fenix 6. It’ll be hard to choose between the MIP and amoled though, the titanium amoled with the orange band looks so good!
For years I am waiting for a rectangular Garmin watch which extends its landscape format asymmetrically to the left side (under sleeve). With a larger screen, bigger solar panel and lots more screen real-estate so you can better see the map, or a video, or an e-mail, or be able to use larger fonts! My ideal size: 2 inch height x 3.5 inches wide (asymmetrically mounted to have more watch to the left side of the watch strap). That is a 3.9 inch diagonal screen (assuming a thin frame). Better sound and much more useful even if a tad more heavy - it could even take phone calls and replace the cell altogether while in vacation!! Of course smaller sizes could also be offered. I guess Apple has a better chance of doing this than Garmin - the iPhone Wrist.
Just ordered my 51mm Fenix 8 Solar. It's crazy expensive, but I'll recoup some of that after I sell my Fenix 7x Sapphire Solar. I'll have it for 4 years easy, and they retain their value quite a bit, so I feel like I can justify the purchase.
Great review! I prefer the forerunner, especially the price point. $1,200 is not justifiable. I'd like to know when the next gen forerunner is expected.
I am starting to regret buying my Tactix 7 AMOLED. I was torn between the Tactix and the MK3i. With this early review, I can see clearly that this will support the basic shooting solutions and diving. I did not need air integration so, this will serve as a very well qualified dive computer. I look forward to an in depth, long term review to see how it goes but, this checks a lot more boxes and, with the dive computer component, this price tag is very effective. Having a sports watch and a dive computer can easily cost half again what this all-in-one combo brings to the table. Side note - you really should try SCUBA. Some of the most beautiful parts of this planet are under water.
Thanks for this good video, but so much work init. I'll wait for the coming Fenix (9 or 10) Fenix 8 sounds good but also, kinda the first smart-multisport watch and guess will see where it's headed. I am still so happy with my Fenix 6x sapphire, I bought it years ago thanks to you and your videos!
thanks for making this video. I like the proof leak buttons and that will be my primary reason to get upgrade. I own a fenix 7x and i love my 7x so much. The only issue for my 7x is the button. Not sure is it a design flaw or mechancial wearing off, sometimes the start button and the down button get jammed. If i need to get the fenix 8, i will probably choose the 51mm size. My dilemma is whether choosing the amoled or solar mip version.
Happy with my tactix 7 amoled. All the features I want, except those button from the new one would be nice to have. Other than that - reallt glad to have all the needed features on mine. Altough looking forward TACTIX 8 series. I think that one will be even crazier than epix 8. Will see.
I know it's not a lot of new additions to the watch, but the one I really wanted was a speaker/microphone. Glad to see it's on. If the next Apple Watch is a flop I'll finally make the switch to Garmin
Dear Dave. Thanks for always making "straight to the point" reviews. You have a really good pace and I always watch your videos. I have a question that I hope you will answer. Is the screen the same as from the Garmin Epix 2 series? I wonder if the screen has become brighter?
I appreciate you putting effort in to explain that crazy lineup! 😂 I have the 6 Pro solar (which after watching your review of it I finally bit the bullet and got it years ago). I like the Fenix 8 looks, the battery life is definitely an improvement especially from my 6 Pro Solar, but I don’t think having a new menu and being able to take phone calls is worth it for me. I like the voice actions though and the addition of a flashlight is nice. I don’t think it justifies a $1000+ upgrade for me. If I were in the market for a new one, I’d get it though. For now, I’ll wait until the Fenix 9 lineup and then scoop up an 8 Solar on sale 💯
I have the Fenix 7x Pro Solar Sapphire. I would prefer the AMOLED screen and I LOVE the look of the new Fenix 8. Maybe I'll wait for the Fenix 8 Pro which will have a better speaker, more clicky buttons and sonar features for wireless gas monitoring. IDK. What else can they add at this point?
Love the look of this watch, I think that I will be getting the 43mm one. I currently have the Venu 3S . I really like that fact the you can set a route for a run or walk if you are in a new place and done know the area.
Got the Enduro 3. I will wait for more mature voice technology and quality of the microphone, maybe Fenix 10. As long as they always keep the flashlight!
Good review sir! To each their own but it might be time to upgrade and relegate my Forerunner 920xt (the OG Square body trisports watch, which is still rocking as my daily!) to the tribars on my bike. I'm a guy with thick wrists but these watches are getting goofy big, hell, I'd do the 43mm if it could be configured in solar. I'm up in the air on F8 47mm colors though. The black is classic sleek and understated but the titanium (if switching out the yellow band) would also look good and not look like every other tactical/trisports watch bro that's out there. The amoled is beautiful but I'm thinking that the benefit of having to charge less often would be worth it with a solar version.
Very nice review 👍 . All in all I mostly care about sport tracking features and not about smart watch features, so except for the scuba tracking there seems to be nothing else. I'm going to keep my Fenix 7 for now. It's a solid update if you like OLED screens, which I don't, and voice assistant and features more on the smart spectrum.
Just ordered the fenix 7 pro solar sapphire for a great price! ( upgrading from a fenix 5 ). Was really thinking if I should buy the fenix 8 , but I dont like or use the speaker or mic. Also I prefer the MIP display . would love to see a comparison video of the 7pro and 8
Thanks for the good review. I really like the design of the Fenix 8 and the new solar panel. Is it worth upgrading from the Solar 7 Pro to the Fenix Solar 8 if I don't need the microphone and I don't diver? Will I get any extra perks on the 8?
Is it possible to make a quick video on the golf portion of this watch? I really love all the features but the golf capabilities is going to be the make or break decision for me.
I can’t find this watch anywhere day one, Best Buy also shows sold out already. Amazon’s quiet too. Strange! Got the Epix Pro from Amazon on launch last year.
Thanks for the review! Definitely a minor upgrade from fénix 7 pro. Like others are saying, I’ll be waiting a few years for some serious upgrades. Not that I had $1200 to buy this watch anyways 😂
I agree with the UI back porting to at least F7. They had in the past done some of that, but this came with very few HW upgrades so I think they’re gonna keep the SW exclusive per DC rainmaker. Sucks and think we should try to petition

I was really hoping for LTE connection so I’m sad Garmin didn’t roll that out. Great video, though!
On these trips, i am now using my Apple Watch Ultra to keep that connectivity going.
Thank you, Dave ! Your review is the first thing that I've watched when it comes to Fenix 8 🤙💪
Just bought the Fenix 8 Sapphire AMOLED 47 mm. So excited to try it out 😊😊😊
Are you happy with it? Would you’ve gone with the solar instead?
@@ZacTexC I have bought the instinct 2x solar in addition to the Fenix 8. I plan to make the Fenix 8 my race watch and the instinct 2x solar my day to day use
Always the first reviewer I go to. Thanks Dave!
lets gooo! im super excited to see this. its a shame the S version is unavailable in MIP based but im just glad there is a MIP option. long live MIP. i have a 7 pro so im not going to upgrade
Enduro 3 is the way to go. Much better price, huge battery life and the MIP.
@@olirc yeah, but no dive rating. not something i need but its a good peace of mind thing against water damage - i'd like it if i could afford it. but theres no reason other than that realistically to get the fenix 8. i really hope the advanced strength training and strength training plans are added to 7pro though
@@olircIf a 7s fits your wrist you would look funny with an Enduro. It would be nice if they made a smaller version of Enduro.
"lets gooo!"
Cringe AF
@@channul4887 ok?
I recently bought the Fenix 7PRO SAPPHIRE SOLAR for 700€ when it was discounted and I will stay here for a long time. Fenix 8 looks awesome though!
Nice early review! I have a Fenix 6S and am debating on upgrading. The new features and software are enticing for sure.
I love MIPS and not sure if I want to transition to AMOLED, but there is no small Fenix 8 with MIPS 😢
This is exactly where I am
I'm there too, but with a Fenix 5X (even older and fewer features).
Still waiting for my delivery. I will let you know. Thanks for the Video, I am excited to receive mine now!
Garmin is a downgrade on the HR sensor, training metrics accuracy and sleep metrics. My Epix2 is a POS compared to my AW ultra.
@@curtisgoodwin8962Agree. Garmin is way behind at this price point. UI is archaic. Only reason to get a Garmin over AWU would be the insane battery life offered by Garmin relative to Apple
3rd Fenix8 video I saw & you're the only 1 to note about the dedicated flashlight! MiP display had gotta be the win, but totally need to save for the HIGH price tag
That was a huge feature I wouod have jumped ship on if they didn't include it. Thx for going in depth for the voice recording/mic/ voice command response.
Just the video I've been waiting for!
Thank you mate 👍🏾
As an EPIX Pro wearer for the past 6 months (damn I should have waited) I'm very much leaning towards a new purchase.
Appreciate your content!
What will u do with your epix?
They are pretty much the same what you wished you waited for?
@evilphuk Sell it I guess. It's in mint condition
@phehibs My old Galaxy watch had the speaker & microphone function, which I loved and used often.
Also like the smaller bezel = bigger screen.
Thanks for the awesome video ❤I’m definitely going to get the 51mm in solar !! I never had a Garmin watch before but I’ve always wanted one
I have Fenix 6x pro and now it is time to get the new one Fenix 8 51mm AMOLED. Using it for exercising and diving. And of course for the mobile phone friend.. ☺️ Just waiting for the to get it. Just ordered it.. 🙃👌
How big is your wirst? My wirst is 18 cm... I can't decide between 47 mm or 51 mm😢😢
I use a Fenix 5x saphire, it is indestructible and battery life is awesome 5 years so far. I hope I can change it with this new Fenix 8 saphire 51 mm
Whoever has the big fist will use the 51mm one.
Looking forward to the speaker & microphone
a really nice watch, but when I saw the price, I realised that I still love my Fenix7 Pro very, very much and will continue to do so for a long time to come
I'm still happy with my Forerunner 955. I would like to have a Fenix series tho,... one day
Picked up the 51mm Amoled today. 🙂 Thanks for the video definitely helped with all the extra(new) features it has.
How do you find the microphone and speaker?
@@bilaltahir9978 tbh i haven't really used those features. I've used the microphone to set a timer a few times which has been super handy to do on the fly. But as far as playback I haven't tested really.
@@Five7weezy what about the other things? do you like the watch? are you satisfied?
1200 EUR... come on...
Just bought the Epix Pro about 6 months ago. Hope Garmin continues to send software updates.
Great video as usual. It reminds me of the Coros. I’m still keeping my Ultra 2.
My first stop when checking out the new watches! Great stuff Dave 💪🏃
Thanks Dave! Keep up the great work!
I'm excited to get my hands on a Solar version. From what I've heard they look much better!
Nice review. Just placed my order in for the 43mm version!
the best fenix 8 review
Just ordered my 51mm Fenix 8 Solar. It's crazy expensive, but I'll recoup some of that after I sell my Fenix 7x Sapphire Solar. I'll have it for 4 years easy, and they retain their value quite a bit, so I feel like I can justify the purchase.
Still waiting for LTE...9th rendition maybe?
Great review! I prefer the forerunner, especially the price point. $1,200 is not justifiable. I'd like to know when the next gen forerunner is expected.
Thank you Dave, amazing watch !!!!! Now Garmin is ready to compete Apple & Samsung even if the competition never existed 😁
😂😂
The Fenix E is a bizarre thing to offer.
Check and mate, all Apple Watches! Finally, Garmin added the voice functions, and without downgrading any other their pros. Cool! Well done!
Sure, with these prices they could even include diamonds
Still need have a phone by side to be able call. no eSIM support.
@@alexa9771 there are discounts on Garmin, occasionally, so the actual price will be lower for sure
@@jiridvorak yeah, but I don't know anybody in my circle who uses eSIM in the Apple watch (maybe due to its battery life...)
Just got the 51mm amoled sapphire.
It looks great but unless you have over sized hands the 47mm stainless might be the way to go
thanks for making this video.
Thanks for this first interesting review. I have a question: is there a voice guidance function for map navigation from a downloaded gpx track?
Aaand my 3rd and laast comment is, I`m gonna get the Enduro 3, because of the price, great battery life and the sapphire lens.
Great video! good points & comparisons to epix! I just got my epix Pro G2 Sapphire 51 in Jan this year so no upgrades for a while :). Thanks!
Got the Enduro 3. I will wait for more mature voice technology and quality of the microphone, maybe Fenix 10. As long as they always keep the flashlight!
Great review, as always. It is an amazing watch. Thank you so much, Dave.
I have the epix pro and after watching this I really want fenix 8
I will stay with my FR 955 solar :D. Simply because it still works great and will upgrade to Fenix 10 :D
Thank You fo a great review ! Whats Your opinion on Garmin upgrading the Tactix 7 to Tactix 8 ?
I agree with the UI back porting to at least F7. They had in the past done some of that, but this came with very few HW upgrades so I think they’re gonna keep the SW exclusive per DC rainmaker. Sucks and think we should try to petition
very good review! your videos are very good. i am one of those who still prefer mips. :)
Great review, as always.
Do you know is sport focused strength training coming to other "older" watches, Fenix 7, Epix, Enduro, FR 955 965 etc ?
