- This is Garmin’s all new Epix. But it’s actually the Fenix 8. If that sounds confusing. It’s because it is. Or at least it was. Let me explain.

You are amazing
@@bonn1771 - You're too kind. Is this the watch you've been waiting for?
@@mlegrand I am between this and the epic2 pro we see the Felix 3 non heart rate is still kicking it for shorter races. But not sure for half iron.
@@bonn1771 - Is the half your last race of the season? The only problem is that the Fenix is getting really tricky to get ahold of right now. I think they're 3-5 weeks out. I'm just asking because I *might* be able to set one aside for you.
Here for the B-Roll 🔥
The B-Roll? I figured you were just a random guy that was confused as hell about what Garmin is doing with the ole' Epix watch.
HOW ARE YOU EVEN DOING THESE FANCY THINGS W THIS OPENING BIT?! Holy cow next level. You win all the reviewer awards.
Ha! And I wonder why this guy's videos are always super late. 🤔
@@mlegrand🤣🤣🤣
I will never not be amazed by the quality of your videos. The content of your reviews are always great too!
Wow, thank you! That is super nice of you to say.
I have seen the 8 already, but your video's have the highest b-roll value, just nice to watch ;-)
Wow, thank you!!! I love that part of making these videos.
That 43mm version looks awesome! Hope to get it later at some point, not paying retail prices. They are crazy expensive.
Maybe Black Friday? Hopefully these things get discounted at some point. I'm going to go broke buying watches to review here. 🤦♂️
I like the care and creativity you put in to your videos, Matt. And it is Fun to experiment with fonts. But this experiment proves that you shouldn't use fonts with very thin serifs on a video where you don't know the resolution that people will be viewing it at .🤣
100% agree with you on the font choice. I need some bigger block fonts. There's some spots in this video where it's completely unreadable. I'm working on the Enduro 3 video and will keep this in mind. Thanks 👍
Wonderful intro of the Fenix 8. The 100 days is something that I am looking forward to. Comparing the Fenix 7x Pro solar/Epix Pro with Fenix 8 would be good gauge as well on the worth to upgrade maybe. Keep it going Matt!
Great recommendations Jeremy! Thanks for checking this one out. 👌
I’m just so disappointed on the battery life for the 43mm bc I need the smaller watch. But I guess it just means charging often. Thanks for the info - best video I’ve come across!
Yeah, in this case, size really does matter. That 51mm watch has excellent battery life. Thank you for the kind words about the video and for taking the time to watch and comment.
Amazing video as always. The king of b rolls.
Yes to 100 day review if you can do it.
Hope your season of races going well. My season ends soon for Tris..
Happy training
One more race this season? It is getting to be that time of year. Are you going to take some down time? Hope it's been a good summer. 🙌
This is what i call a review: thorough and honest. Ended up in your channel because of the info of the Fenix 8 i was on the lookout for, staying for the quality.
As for the Fenix 8, i was really looking forward to a major upgrade that justifies the price jump, but it's not quite cutting up for me. Perhaps I'll wait for your 100-day review to give it a second chance!
Thank you so much Abigail!!! If we're patient we might also see black friday deals. The big question is 'when do you need a new watch?'
@mlegrand there is no urgency to get a new watch:), I got mine less than a 1.5 year ago. In all honesty, I was looking for an excuse to buy a new one, and a major upgrade would have been the perfect one.
I'm not discarding yet the idea of the Fenix 8. I will definitely be on the lookout for all the content you put out on this. Thanks again for the quality!
Can we take a step back and recognize that timeline animation. 👏👏👏
Wow, thank you Miguel!!! I love making these parts of the video. It’s time consuming but fun. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Very well put together video. Thanks for the content. Prefer the slimmer bezel on the 47MM amoled. I know most are hating it but an improvement for me. Look forward to receiving it.
Nice! I'm glad you got one ordered quickly. I heard that wait times are already out to 5 weeks. Thanks for the kind words.
Honestly, searched for your vid before the usual suspects for the production quality. It was worth the wait! I unfortunately don’t see any hardware or software updates that will improve or impact triathlon training, although the extra waterproofed buttons is comforting. Looking forward to pushing buttons underwater
I push Garmin buttons under water all the time. I am aware of the issues other people have had and really feel like Garmin should have figured this out by now. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I've been using Garmin Pay since the Fenix 5, it's fantastic.
My bank has never allowed for Garmin Pay. It's so disappointing that I've never been able to test this for viewers. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand why you dont creat a revolut or similar account ?
@@mariosimas - I'll look into it. 🤔
For me it works just about anywhere google/apple does.
Good to see you show the smaller 43mm watch. I have a 180mm (7") wrist and these 47/51mm watches would just look ridiculous on me.
I have really small wrists and have gotten pretty used to large watches 🤷🏻♂️. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
You are a very talented video editor! (epix pro owner not upgrading because it makes no sense)
The friggin flashlight is the most useful thing I have ever had. If you know, you know.
Exactly! 🔦 Thanks for the kind words Erik!!!
My 47mm sapphire edition with the orange band is in transit. Stepping up from the Epix2.
Oh man! You're going to love this thing. That's probably the way that I would go if I were buying also. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Love my fenix 8. Have had since day 1.
Awesome! Glad you're enjoying it. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
As i age, i bought the 965 only for the Amoled and size. I like 5 data fields on 1 page and i can now run in the evenings ... not sure why I'm still watching Garmin reviews when i only run 10km maximum nowadays but these Amoled screens are fantastic not only because they make the data fields more legible but you could use your Garmin as a daily watch (to the office even) with the really nice watch faces.
Btw, Garmin Share (workouts particularly) is a winner because the run community is consistently trying to share/improve by sharing their "killer workouts" 😅
Well, I appreciate you taking the time to watch this review. It's nice to know about these things even if you're not buying. Thanks Ming!
Excellent video and you just earned a new subscriber. I will stay with the Fenix 7 for now
Wow, thank you! I think that's smart. I'd make that Fenix 7 last as long as possible and max out the value! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Would ❤30, 60, 90, and 100-day reviews. Can't get enough of the Summit. Couldn't locate the links, though.
Which links were missing?
Hey Matt, smooth one! Thanks for the review, now I am sure that I will very calmly stay with my Epix pro. Absolutely no reason to upgrade, as I am rather leaning towards less of a smart watch on my wrist. The enduro remains interesting, but more for mere voyeuristic reasons, I love that Garmin is making this high and specialized versions for those who need both the reliability of the sensor as well as battery life for a month. Great to see both Garmin and you shine.
I'm working on my Enduro 3 review now. I do love never having to charge this thing up. Thanks Mat for the kind words! 👍
Thanks a lot for a 43 mm version review!
You're welcome but I only get to review whatever I can scrape up quickly after these announcements. So it's just random. 😆 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Suprisingly good video. Good Job!
Thank you!!! And thanks for taking the time to comment. 👍
Getting MIP for sure.
Awesome! Report back and let me know what you think (if you remember)
I don't see how it's a "good upgrade". Will keep my 7 Pro, until the 8 pro MIP or perhaps the 9 MIP.
@@alepioveable I don't have the 7 Pro version. So for me it's an upgrade from normal 7.
i had the epix in black but if it scratches you can see the titanium shining through so i picked the uncoated version of the fenix 8 because the scratches arent that visible on this model
I see. That makes sense. I think that's similar to my Epix gen 2 which did get scraped up a good bit but wasn't noticeable from a distance. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
The price is high! I think a lot of fenix (pre Pro) users are not used to spending $1k on a watch - which fair enough. As a former Epix user the $100 bump doesn’t hurt as much but I think for many longtime fēnix stans this and the solar models won’t make sense until there’s sales and discounts.
I wonder if there will be Black Friday sales. That might be prime time to buy. Who knows. Thanks for checking this one out Max! Hope you get back to making videos. Your content is always fantastic! 👌🏻
Honeslty, I would look at the new Enduro 3. For me it has all the features I want from the Fenix, better battery life and its cheaper.
I’ve always gone 51mm, but the same size screen in a smaller case is a game changer. I understand the battery trade off though this is my dilemma.
I know right?!? I'm not sure what to do either. This little one is going back to Garmin and I'm not sure if I should go 51 or 47. 🤔 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrandwhich one did you end up keeping?
I like the amp yellow but too bad that doesn’t come in AMOLED screen. Still doesn’t seem a big enough update from the Epix pro, gotta rep the Epix as this is the end of the Epix line lol.
I like that one too. I had an Amp Yellow 945 that I loved. Or was it a 935 🤔 Whatever it was, that color came as part of the triathlon pack. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand I have mentioned this before, but in case you’ve forgotten, your artistic approach to these video reviews are awesome! 👏🏻
@@aclsass - Thank you!!! I've really been enjoying that aspect of making these.
With that price increase Matt they should’ve included LTE in there. Still a big miss from Garmin. And I agree with you, they included the diving stuff because of what Apple did. I think they have to include LTE as well to keep Apple from gaining traction on them because Apple keeps getting closer and closer.
I'm so confused about Garmin's LTE plans. It seems so odd that they've had it on older devices and not really moved forward with it. I actually expected it to be an option on every watch by this point. 🤷🏻♂️ Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment Greg! I really appreciate it. 👍
Amazing video as always! But to me this seems a pretty tiny update b7t with a not so tiny price bump
Yeah, I think it depends. If Scuba diving is your thing than this is a big update otherwise maybe not. For me, personally, it's not a huge deal. I guess I'm still learning what all is in here. LTE would have been nice. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment Dee! I really appreciate it. 👍
Great video Matt! Could you touch on the swim capabilities? if there have been any updated to that
Parker!!! I did swim with it but didn't notice anything new with the Fenix. I will say the lap button uses the speaker and I don't like the sound of it under water. It sounds like an annoying siren and not a noise that means I'm starting a swim split. 🤷♂️ You thinking about picking this one up?
Garmin needs to continue consolidating models and simplifying just choosing a watch. the find a watch system also needs to have the ability to get granular with features so you can eliminate watches that don't have the feature your looking for. too many dam watches probably killed a bunch of sales from analysis paralysis.
Good point. I wonder if Garmin would explore the use of AI with something like their Find A Watch web app. Seems like a good use for AI. Until then, let me know if I can help. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Yes agree, they have too many products that overlap each other in features and use cases and it makes it difficult for a new customer to choose a watch. Compare that to Apple or Coros who offer 3 very solid base models, and makes it trivial to decide
Great video. Looking forward to a long term video but I probably won’t be able to hold back buying one. Leaning towards the 51.
I think the 51mm for the battery is the way to go! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hi Matt, what's the battery life on 43mm when using AOD? Also, what is your wrist size/ circumference? Could you also please measure the watch lug to lug and compare it to fenix / epix 47mm? Thanks a lot
My wrists are about 165mm. Battery life on the 43mm when using in always on mode (that's the mode I prefer) is only about 4 days. The small size and AMOLED screen really make this difficult on the battery life. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
The watch response seems slow with the voice commands. Think they can speed this up with future firmware updates?
I thought the same thing. Hopefully they can speed things up. I wonder if they’re round tripping out to servers somewhere. 🤔
@@mlegrand LOL!
Matt!!! Been too long, forgive me. Wow, the intro is spectacular. Wowzers. This shows so many tricks you've developed over the year. It is so nice, I would love to be creepy and watch some of that magic happen sometime.
The speaker/microphone is mighty interesting. I tried the original Karoo years ago and loved it, but no audio meant turn by turn queues was impossible! I returned it. BUT - back to the watch, interested.
15 different versions!? Garmin isn't worried about all the SKUs? Are they not heeding the bike world? I am mighty curious about their sales across all the different models...are they spread pretty equally, or scattered all over?
NOOOOOOO ORANGE!!! (I'm a bright color hater for many fashion bits).
The graphics are so good Matt, you have done SO WELL HERE.
AHAHA! I love the "wait, you said there was 15."
The 8E is an interesting addition to the market...like they're using up spare parts!(?). And for $800.....that seems $$$.
Heheeheh, "kills batteries." Love your use of language. The battery graphic is incredible. Matt, you are so skilled. You have honed those skills. This video shows so much care and attention to detail.
HR data....at what point will wrist HR match chest straps? I there there is a bit of drop off, meaning if you are really going, your wrist might say 180, while your chest strap says 190. The numbers and ratio would be different per person, but does that seem right? Am I just philosophizing? Darn pseudo science alert!
Oh that sax!!!??? What do you use for your music options?
I laugh continuously when you have Kristen's wrist on the video, but sometimes you have your wrist because sometimes I have to really pause and look. You do have tiny wrists!!!!
Okay- the big one....and it has nothing to do with watches. Bike GPS (specifically Garmin)....they all seem to be crap at mapping in Europe. I tried all the different settings all the different tricks that I know... I was still put on to bike paths that turned into gravel, deadended in a field, or some combination of the two....non-bike transversable terrain. It was infuriating. The route planner on the head unit, the route planner on the app, then send to the head unit....they were all rubbish! What gives? The internet seems to support this, but isn't uber specific, this feels like it might just be me?? Am I doing it wrong?? Hold my hand. Please.
XOXOXOXOX (sorry it has been so long, looooooooooooonnnnnnnnngggggggggggggg- but really good summer full of all the things!)
I don't think you're doing anything wrong over there in Europe. As long as you've got the right maps for where you are installed. I think you might just get stuck with some crapy definition of rideable routes. 😬 #teamBrightColorWatches
@@mlegrand So.............am I understanding you telling me ALL bike computers stink at Europe? That is music to my ears, because I don't need to spend any money then. Just learn to be less dumb.
If you were planning a route from A to B, you can't use the 'auto' features (or at least the ones I've tried). Recommend using Strava's heat maps, or something else? Allegedly, Garmin uses heat maps to make those AI routes that all.............were terrible and took me on not traversable roads. Should I be patient and the technology will improve?
Thank you for lending your expertise to Freddly me.

As always.. Killer video! 🔥 The Enduro 3 looks like my next daily trainer. Pretty impressed with the specs and price actually 😍 Can you see yourself using the mic/speaker in the long term?
I don't think I'll use the mic and speaker very much. I'm guessing I'll answer a call at some point without my phone at arms length. I do love the Enduro. It's one of my go to devices. I'll have my Enduro 3 review out as soon as possible. Keep up the great work on your channel. It's so good!!!
@@mlegrand Too kind Matt 👊🏽❤️ Bring it on, proper looking forward to the Enduro Video!

Yeah, hold out as long as possible and max out the value of that Epix Pro. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@mlegrand do you know if they will back port things like dynamic round-trip routing or the new UI? Feels weird to upgrade from an Epix Pro Gen2 but those are the main things that are interesting to me.
I don't know if Garmin is planning to add that to the Pro series. Seems like they should. That watch is only a year old. Come on Garmin 🤞🏻
Quick question, does it have audible turn by turn direction like the Edge 1050 as it has a speaker?
Yeah, that's very understandable. I wonder if we'll see any black friday deals. Best of luck with the iPhone and Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Nice video Matt! And great watch… do you think they will extend the UI to older models?
That's a really good question and I don't know the answer. I'll reach out to Garmin and try to figure out some more details. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Can you do an in depth test on call quality on the watch? Is it really usable in practice? I worry about poor audio quality and being too silent.
I know there are a few videos showing call quality and how quiet it is. I'll do some testing to see if there's a major issue but I'm not sure I'll do an entire video on the subject. Maybe as part of a 100 day review? My video take a ridiculously long time to put together. So that plus my other jobs means that I tend to make less videos that other creators on this platform.
Got one last week - it’s great 👍
Great to hear! Hope you enjoy it!!! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Garmin claiming Fenix 8 solar having significantly better solar charging seems misleading (except for Enduro 3 which did double). Rather seems they have more efficient chipsets now and the loss of inner solar area is made up with more efficient outer ring but barely:
Fenix 7 Pro: 0.39% per hour charge
Fenix 8 Solar: 0.41% per hour charge
Max battery:
Fenix 7 Pro: 57-173 days
Fenix 8 Solar: 34-58 days
Smartwatch:
Fenix 7 Pro: 18-22 days
Fenix 8 Solar: 21-28 days
GPS Only
Fenix 7 Pro: 57-73 hours
Fenix 8 Solar: 67-92 hours
I don't know. If the main gains were in chipset designs don't you think we'd see a bigger increase in battery life when comparing non solar conditions on the Enduro 3 compared to the Enduro 2. (only 2 extra hours) ?
@@mlegrand I was comparing Fenix 7 to 8, but for Enduro 2 you see more evenly
Interested in the 100 day review! You’ve video is the only one I found talking about the 43mm model and as I’m hoping to replace my 6s (dying battery) I’m not sure I want to get something I have to charge just as frequently (or go with 7s pro). Thanks!
This 43mm will have to go back to Garmin so my 100 day review might be a different size or color. I'm not sure. One thing I am sure about . . . I'm going to go broke making these watch review videos. 🫰🏻 Come on Garmin! 😂

Thanka for awesome review appreciate that !! Just wondering what's your go to size if you gonna get the new fenix im having issue deciding plus i have same wrist size as you
Ok, great question. I needed to return this Fenix to Garmin and buy my own. I really wanted the larger size because of the better batter life but ended up buying the 47mm. Are you picking up the Fenix 8?
Matt, after the fenix 8 come out, waht the prefer for daily activity and a little bit of (gym, runs maybe swim)
I don't know what to buy
Fenix 8 or epix pro (is the same price)

Well, with the Fenix 8 at $1,800 Australian, my 'old' Epix Gen 2 will be perfectly fine thanks. I picked it up for $400 second hand but actually brand new.
Oh yeah, that Epxi gen 2 is a great watch! And wow, $400! That's a screaming deal!
How does the Fenix 8 screen compare to the Epix 2? Not in terms of size, but clarity/colour?
Looking at them side by side, I don't see any major difference in clarity or color. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Constructive criticism, that font/colour combo it's hard to read over that gray background. Maybe something thicker and a drop shadow/stroke could help. Great review mate.
100% agree with you. That was a mistake. I actually added a drop shadow to that to try to help but it's just the wrong font choice for something people are trying to quickly read (and possibly on their small phones). Thanks for the constructive criticism. It's well received here. 👌🏻
@@mlegrand it's all good mate, now not thanks to you I'm trying to justify getting a 1,200 buck watch 🤣🤣
Did they change the charging method yet? That is the only thing that would convince me to upgrade. Hate Garmin Charging port and Cables.
I'd love to see conductive charging of some sort. It's be great to just drop these Garmin watches on something and have them charge. Come on Garmin!?!?!
The dive features are nice as a backup computer but for me it is no replacement for a proper dive computer.
Yeah, I noticed that with the Apple Watch Ultra. People felt it was nice to have but that they were not going to replace a dive computer. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment Rob! I really appreciate it. 👍
The Garmin offers more features then the Apple for diving, once they release the new marq series with this capability, it will replace my current dive comp.
Nice video! What is the lug to lug length please ? I have a smaller wrist. My 5S Plus is 52mm from one end to the other one. Thank you!
Measuring with the watch bands folded down top to bottom measures about 49mm here for me.
@@mlegrand Thank youI just hope this is the distance as from the lugs themselves or identical.
I am a 7 years Apple Watch user (series 2, 3, 5) and I am eager for the Garmin Fenix 7 Pro, and now the Fenix 8 Solar with MIP... I don't care about the AMOLED screens consuming battery.
I think there are things that you'll love about Garmin and things that you will miss about Apple. But I guess, that just how these things go. Let me know what you think once you've picked up one of these! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hi! Apple Watch user here! 🙋🏻♀️ you can definitely keep them both! I just purchased my first Garmin now, for workouts and outdoor activities, but for daily use, I am definitely using my apple watch. This way I get to keep all the pros from both categories: longer battery life while running/hiking bla bla and the iOS sync, wireless charging and so on for the normal daily life. Needless to say, I bought a cheaper Garmin

I Thought I could get a fenix solar WITH the Amoled display now !?
I don't think we'll see Solar mixed with AMOLED displays in the near future. The benefits of Solar are much more pronounced when you have a lower battery draw device. The Garmin Instinct with is monochrome display is probably the best example of this. I think we're still at the same point of picking between great battery life and great vibrant displays. Let me know if I can help. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment Robert. I really appreciate it. 👍
If the price is going down a little bit I would prefer the 47mm Saphire amoled fenix 8, because I have so mach different color bands from my actual epix gen first gen. The features look great, but the price tag at the moment is to high for me right now.
I have high hopes that there might be some Black Friday Deals. 🤞🏻 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
It's a pity they didn't included lte. Nice watch but I don't think it's worth the upgrade(my opinion of course). I ll stick to my forerunner 965. Thank you for the video
Yeah, agreed. I can't figure out what Garmin is doing with LTE. I was so sure that it was going to be an option on all of their watches by this point. And it's just not. . . 🤷🏻♂️
How do you like the size compared to fenix epix pro gen 2? Noticeably bigger than the 42mm? One is 1.2 inch one is 1.3 inch screen?
Any extra size is not something I noticed. Are you thinking about picking up one of the smaller versions?
@@mlegrand got the 47mm but my wrist size is 16.5cm not sure if I should swap it for the 43? 47 felt huge because of the thin bezels
Thanks for the good review. I really like the design of the Fenix 8 and the new solar panel. Is it worth upgrading from the Solar 7 Pro to the Fenix Solar 8 if I don't need the microphone and I don't diver? Will I get any extra perks on the 8?
Yes, there are a few other things you'd get with the Fenix 8. Probably the updated user interface is the most obvious. But I'd probably suggest waiting as long as possible to max out your value. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand Thank you
Fenix line used to be 500 bucks, now there are variants that reach 1300?? Crazy what these companies want to charge for a device that youll dump in 5 years.
Super crazy. But I guess price sensitivity is somewhat personal. I'm sure some people are a lot less worried about dropping $1000 than I am. I'm cheap! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
My thought is its going to outlast most of the flagship phones it will be paired to. That said, a 35% increase in price is a huge jump and will no doubt alienate customers.
Considering i picked up my Fenix 6x Pro for 500 a few years ago, I consider myself in the "alienated" camp. But im used to it at this point. Seems every time I get a dollar raise, companies want 1.50 more for products. Infinite growth and all that is good for society if you ask them.
I noticed the colors are more vivid on my tactix amoled. It was the first thing I noticed when I powered on the Fenix 8. I have the 47mm. Am I the only one here noticing this?
I haven't noticed that. I wonder what's going on. Is your Tactix 51mm? That would do it.
I’ve asked you a while ago for a bicycle watch or computer . And you answered really fast. I’m honestly in between epix gen 2 or fenix 8 for Mtb mapping and heart rate . Not sure which one to buy epix gen 2 will be way cheaper and has the same features except the mic and speaker
Yeah, I'm not sure I'll be able to help. I think it really comes down to price sensitivity. I think the old Epix would be just fine but part of me is worried that it won't get software updates as long into the future as this new Fenix.
@@mlegrand the software updates is my only gripe I’ll have with the epix . Anyway thanks , again . And great content und videos .
Matt, with the latest discounts I snagged a Forerunner 965 ($450) and Epix Standard Gen 2 ($350). What's the better watch in your opinion? which would you say provides the best value? The biggest thing that makes me go towards the 965 is dual band which seems to be missing from the Epix 2 according to the Garmin comparing site.,
I think the Epix Gen 2 has Duel Band in the titanium edition but not the standard. (If I'm remember correctly 🤔) I wouldn't expect the GPS quality to be all that different between the two unless you're doing some interesting hikes or run in the city near skyscrapers. I still think that makes for a tricky call. This might not be a good question but which one do you like the look of better?
@@mlegrand not a bad question, looks wise I like the 965 better, it fits a bit smaller and lighter too. That’s one of the biggest draws to the 965 for me, but at the same time I could save $100 with the Epix getting similar features.
@@nefitru - I think you and I are both odd in that we both like the look of the 965 over the Epix. (I was asked about it recently on a podcast). It's just a nice slim watch. I wonder if the 965 will also get updates for longer than the Epix gen 2? Who knows.
@@mlegrand Epix looks great don’t get me wrong but the 965 seems more sleek and simple, easier to wear daily imo. Plus I like the 965 UI better too, Epix seems outdated. What podcast were you on? I’d be interested to check it out
@@nefitru - The podcast that asked me that question was the Chase the Summit podcast: ruclips.net/video/OwTFvAuqYNI/видео.htmlsi=NtvdacbuUv-b0GdO
But I'm a regular on a cycling podcast called the Dialed Podcast: dialedcyclinglab.com/dialed-podcast
Excellent review!
My Fenix 6 Pro 47 mm is going strong. It’s my iPhone that drives me bonkers and Apple’s spell check!🤡
At some point, when the price is more reasonable, I’ll consider the Fenix 8 47 mm with the Orange band. 51 mm is too large regardless of the battery. I did not want a speaker or phone features in the Fenix!
Maybe Black Friday?
I think I will get the Fenix 8 to replace my 5. It's got enough to justify over the cheaper Epix including the the non-advertised faster CPU for that snappy UI. I think the 8 will be slightly more future proofed. But I'll still wait a few months for more reviews and later in the year it'll be 10% off somewhere.
Also, if you can wait a bit, there's always the possibility of a black friday sale. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Was everyone crying out for a new mic and speaker on Garmin watches? This would make zero difference to me.
Probably a very vocal minority. It's something I hear about when reviewing a Venu or VivoActive. But yeah, I'm like you. I don't expect to use this all that much. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment Steven. I really appreciate it. 👍
E = Essential
Is that what Garmin says? Seems like that would make sense. Thanks Alex!
100 day review, yes please.
I'm on it!
Has anyone found fenix 8 wristbands for less than $40? Does the Fenix 7 band fit the Fenix 8?
Yeah, $40 is a good bit. I guess it could be worse. I remember Apple's AWU wrist bands being $100 each. That's just crazy. 🤦♂️ Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I have Epix 2 pro . Does this has that many features making it worth $1200. I have 51 mm .
I really like the Epix Pro. I don't think I would upgrade if it were me personally. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Bought a used tactix 7 pro ballistics for $600 ($1500 new)
Couldn't be happier!
Wow, amazing deal on a really fantastic watch. You're going to love that thing. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I'm trying REAL HARD to understand what was the purpose of releasing the Garmin Epix Pro (Gen 2) or the Fenix 7 Pro 👉LAST YEAR👈!?
.
I was under the impression that these were LARGE INVESTMENT watches were supposed to have a longer "shelf-life" than 12 months.
.
Also, as someone who purchased the LARGER Epix Pro 51mm (Gen 2), I find it very frustrating to have the larger battery but NO PERSONAL USER CONTROL over "HOW" I prefer to make use of that battery. I can't control inactive AOD screen brightness and I can't control how "I" want SLEEP MODE to operate.🙄
I would love more fine grain control over how these watches sips on battery. Maybe even some battery profiles as opposed to all on or battery saver mode. 🤷🏻♂️ Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
The price goes to : Enduro 3 :)
I'm working on my Enduro 3 video right now. Maybe out on Friday? 🤷🏻♂️
Isn't the Enduro also the new EPIX too? :)
No. The Enduro is still the Enduro
Ha!!! It's the Enduro-pix now! 😆 I am working on my Enduro 3 video. Hopefully by the end of the week if I get my butt in hear. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I came here just for the video quality, I am team Coros 😂
#teamCOROS!!! 😂 🙌 I love it! Thanks for stopping in. I do have a COROS video coming up in the next 2-3 weeks or so. "10 Things That You Didn't Know Your COROS Could Do" I've got about 5-6 so far. Let me know if you have ideas to round it out to 10! 🙌
Is there a price yet??
$800 - $1200
I have the original instinct solar. Been waiting to see what the 8 would get over the 7 pro. Pretty sure I’m going to upgrade. Now I’m just not sure about amoled or solar. I like the solar a lot, but those amoled animations are suuuuuuuper clean.
Tricky call. I think you'd be able to get used to the lack of battery life. You're spoiled with that Instinct! Or you could wait and see if Garmin does anything cool with an Instinct 3. But I haven't heard any news or dates about that. 🤷♂️
If I didn't have an Apple Watch Ultra, this would be the watch I'd get
Yeah, it's a great alternative. I have both here and they're both good at slightly different things. Garmin is getting slightly smarter and Apple is getting slightly better at training metrics. Could make for an interesting topic for a future video. 🤔
Holly crap gone the old days of picking a Fenix for £400! Got to sell a kidney now to get one. Nah, sticking g with my Epix Gen2 until the fenix 8 becomes history 😂
Yeah, these prices are scary. I wonder if we'll see any Black Friday deals. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand With pleasure 🙏
I don't scuba or have an interest in talking into my watch. My Shokz are connected to my phone on long runs and bike rides so I can answer calls on those. So I'm thinking the Fenix E might be my best bet to save a few bucks.
I'm curious what the advantage would be over the sale Epix gen 2?
@@mlegrand probably none outside of being newer, so supported for longer? In reality the next time I'm in the market I'll likely get whatever model is on sale. My fenix 6 pro was almost half price. The only reason I chose it over one of the forerunner models
@@JoshButton - I think that's a really smart call Josh. No reason to rush to spend twice as much money unless you're backed against a wall and need something urgently.
Subscribed. Nice video 👍🏻🤝.
Wow, thank you! I think the Enduro 3 video will be up next on the channel. Then some smart ring content and we'll see after that.

I wonder what the Fenix 8 Pro version is going to have. 😅
The last time, it was the sensor and flashlight. Most people would probably skip this and get the Pro.
Maybe Garmin should cancel the Pro version and launch a watch every two years. Alao more people would upgrade if they had a trade-in deal like Apple and Samsung.
Or every year without naming them pro and also a trade in deal
The trade in deal is a really smart idea. Hopefully Garmin is watching 👀 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Crazy prices. I will stick to my Fenix 7.
Smart man! Yeah, these prices are something. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
The Storytelling is so damn good, I almost hate it
Ha!!! Is my tone within this video a bit annoying? Sorry 😬 But thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand No, otherwise! Entrance, explanation, videography, all is really good. Enjoyed it. 🙃
@@busrasaracoglu7873 - Thanks buddy!
Bravo!
Wow, thank you!
Just ordered mine. Went for the 47mm. Currently have the Forerunner 965 after converting from being a long time Apple Watch user. There are a couple of true smart watch features that I miss, but overall prefer Garmin. This Fenix 8 should help close the gap on those couple of smart features that I miss. The one thing that I wish Garmin would do is get rid of the physical plug and switch to wireless charging. The connection is flimsy and only lasts about 18 months before breaking.
Wireless charging should be very high up on the list for Garmin to do next. That's a great idea. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment James! I really appreciate it. 👍
The real winner is the Enduro 3. What you get for the price = 🔥
Yeah, I love that watch. I have a review of the Enduro 3 coming up next! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
The price 🤣 yeah right
I know right? Crazy. And somehow people are buying this thing up like crazy. I think orders are getting pushed out 3-5 weeks now. 😬 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
How did you get that watch face. The version of the “Rock” face that has the 2 extra data graphs on it? Mine only have the 3 small circular data spots. It doesn’t have the 2 bar graphs
Are you on the Fenix 8? It's possible that I'm on an odd software update or even outdated.
I am. Fenix 8 51mm there was an update available out of the box that I applied
its the price and no real upgrade from epix2. if suunto can improve and the price point they offer now garmin may face issues next few years
Oh man, I'm so impressed with Suunto's price, quality and value. I have a Suunto Race S video coming out soon. Maybe 2-3 weeks or so. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
just picked up the 51mm AMOLED spark orange version im coming over from an Apple Watch
Very cool. I'll be very interested to hear what you think of it. Personally, I think that's the one to get! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand you would think with a high price tag that they would have it ready to go. But it’s a 3-5 week wait for it. And no problem keep on the good content you’ve earned yourself a new subscriber

the "e" in fenix "e" should be a "u" for unsaleable. :D

@@mlegrand marketing is a mysterious topic. :D
I'm really pissed. I bought my epix pro gen 2 51mm sapphire two and a half months ago. I didn't know new watches were coming out. I paid 900 and something euros. Now I'm finding out that the epix probably won't get any more software updates. I bought an high end watch. I'm feeling garmin does not give a flying f about their costumers. The least they could do is sending upgrades to the epix pro gen 2 ,because it came out last year. I do triathlon, been using garmin for long now, even before the epix. But I'm wondering if it's not the last time. Don't like being treated like this 👎👎👎
I would expect that the Epix Pro would get software upgrades. Did you hear that it wouldn't? That would be pretty nasty of Garmin.
@@mlegrand that's what I understood from dc rainmaker's take on it.
It's one thing for them to no longer continue manufacturing the Epix line, and quite another for them not to update their software. I highly doubt that will happen, and I hope so because I am an Epix Pro user.
