I think some of the issues with Apple Watch are easily solved with 3rd party apps, like Atheletics for recovery, or Workoutdoors for routes, offline maps and great activity tracking. Apple Watch as a flashlight too. But yeah, the applewatch definitly sucks in terms of battery life
@@appartrivard-laurier6803but then again those apps are third party and are not smooth with apples software or even with Apple health . Unfortunately that’s why I didn’t like using the third party apps on Apple . Dual uploads to Strava a lot of times
@@appartrivard-laurier6803 mine gets me past the 24 hr. mark and that's all mine needs to do because I charge them both every morning while in the shower and both AWU and my Garmin pro 2 51mm are always ready to go..
One thing to note is that even though quite a few Garmin watches have maps, not all do. Not all garmins give training suggestions either. Garmin has greater variety in features between their different watches than Apple does, so you need to make sure you are getting the right garmin watch for your needs.
Since I'm a senior with some health issues I use the Apple Watch since I think it is stronger in that departement. It is also better integrated with my other Apple products. However, when I play golf I use my Garmin watch and I'm impressed by the battery life. I tried golf apps on Apple Watch but the battery barely last a full round of golf. No issue with the Garmin. At least 70 % battery left after a round.
@@charleslyall4911 that's because your settings are battery draining do you understand that? I get nearly 36 of 72 hrs., but it doesn't matter I still charge mine every day while I'm getting ready for my day, by the time I walk to my computer its ready at 100% and I know it's enough no matter what I do to last till the next day when I have to get ready to go do it all over again. I exercise, I do almost 10 miles per day so I am not so lazy I can't put a tiny watch on a charger. I really don't know how any of these athletes have an issue with putting a tiny watch on a charger I mean they absolutely cry about charging rolflmmfao!!
my dad is in the Hospital again for falling 2 times yesterday I grabbed his phone and quickly seen where he is having AFIB again after his APPLE WATCH SERIES 8 detected AFIB and PVCs on his ECG I ran on him then we rushed him into the hospital where he is right this moment. Also in APPLE HEALTH it shows where his sleep apnea is causing his heart to dip down in the 30s at night, So we are heading back up there to get the scoop on all tests at 6:30 pm central. My Garmin can only do an ECG, heart rate, and 02 it can't however show me any other stuff, but a Dr. has to read it showing anything other than AFIB! if you even worried about your health AWU.
That’s my experience after 7 years with Garmin. Fed up with the software experience. Every single update breaks something and then it takes forever for them to fix it. The watch is laggy and slow, and imo Garmin hasn’t innovated ANYTHING software wise for years. My Epix Pro 2 felt EXACTLY like my Fenix 5 did software wise.
@@mbrackmann8 this is why I sold my 965 then I bought the Epix pro g2 51mm thinking it would be better and yes exactly the same it's now up on fbmp for sale! ill never buy another Garmin watch ever.
this is the solo reason i gave up on it on the first 30 min of trying it i dont care if your data is 30% better than apple watch ultra but if im getting a high end smart watch in 2024, the app better not feel like 2010
@@KenTVtw high end smart watch in 2024 with day and a half battery life ? Are you serious ? Yo you better buy huawei watch, does the same think like apple but you get at least 5-6 days of battery .
I’ve used Garmin for 7+ years having multiple different watches. I’m a runner and cyclist and weekend hiker. I did love Garmin a long time. I had the Apple Watch Ultra 1 for about a week, but back then the OS was nowhere near close to Garmin in terms of fitness tracking. With Watch OS11, it is MUCH MUCH closer. I picked up the Ultra 2 in black and I think I’m done with Garmin forever. Imo, their software is incredibly buggy and slow for a $1000 watch, and now that Apple has closed the gap enough, it just doesn’t make sense for me to use Garmin anymore.
wow I have the complete opposite opinion... After 7 years using Apple Watch (S1, 2, and 5) I am donde with AW... lack of physiological parameters with use for Athletes, lack of Topological maps for real navigation, and specially lack of an useful battery (Life, and health: since it is necessary to charge it daily all series will degrade around 1000 cycles or 2-3 years depending on use... I ask: what happens if you charge your Garmin watch ONCE PER MONTH? the likely answer is: A lot of years of potential use. However, granted, I have not used the Ultra 1 or 2, or WatchOS 11... so what Garmin Watch did you had? (I am aiming for the Forerunner 955, Fenix 7 Pro, Fenix 8 Solar or Enduro 3) it is really that bad? As I said, I am eager to run away from Apple Watch limitations. Thanks.
the same story :) but I tried garmen fenix 8 for a week and was already done with Garmin 😅fenix 8 costed to me 1.2k$ in Europe, and it's too expensive for such a weak watch. I had worst user experience with such an expensive device ever. The flow of configuring watch face downloaded from ConnectIQ made me laugh out laud, I felt myself back to 2000s 😁btw @TheQuantifiedScientist makes a lot of testing sensors of different wearables (Apple Watch, Garmin, many others). Garmin is not that good for measuring health data in comparation with Apple Watch, according to him. And the difference is significant, counting that Apple Watch Ultra 2 costs almost 300$ cheepier then fenix 8 with titanium frame and sapphire glass. Yeah, probably Garmin could make more sense for guys who need a solid battery life, in this case Garmin much better, but I'm not such a guys. And maybe some professional sportsman's may find Garmin more convenient for the training, but it's debatable.
Not sure if you know this but there’s an app called Athlytic and you can have almost the same data as on a Garmin in terms of recovery, sleep and so on
Apple and Garmin fan here. I use both. You don’t have to use the screen on Apple. All you have to do is push the one button and say a command. You don’t even have to say “Siri” if you push it. You can say, “start outdoor run”, “pause workout”, “stop workout”, “resume workout “. You can answer a call when running and don’t have to take your phone if you want as long as you have cellular. As far as someone said below that Garmin is a superior health tracker I disagree but agree it is a better fitness tracker as he stated also. The Apple as far as health tracking as always on fall detection, medication reminders, sleep apnea detection, and it checks for Afib in the background. It has car crash detection and many other things the Garmin doesn’t. Some Garmin watches have ecg but you have to have symptoms and then check for it.
The Ultra has dual band and a pretty great heart rate sensor as well, so unless we talk battery life, the Ultra is a great device. I have been using one for a couple of years now as marathon training watch and love it. The combination of LTE and the metrics I need (and Apple having caught up regarding custom interval runs etc.) make it super. Do I wish it had better battery life? Of course! Would be amazing if we could get five days without worry
Everyone has their own use case , obviously if sport and fitness are your main concern the Garmin looks pretty good , but as already mentioned by others , all the other smart features on the Apple Watch some of which relate to personal safety with crash detection , fall detection , and being able to take and make phone calls without a phone are imo invaluable. When it hits the fan and you cannot get help , because the Garmin has no phone function , you may see the value of the apple device. You cant help using more battery if you have more features, most of the time if you plan on going into the sticks for an extended period you plan for things like charging smart devices with a power bank , so not that much of a big deal.
It's a great device, but being able to have a smartwatch tied to an entire ecosystem of apps and capabilities is hard to pass up. Charging it every night while sleeping is a small price to pay.
@@theswillz3456it's not a matter of it being hard. It's more that it is annoying, unnecessary, and pathetic that a watch cannot last longer than 2 days without having to put it on a charger. How stupid is that!? Very. Garmin superior in all regards.
Let's be real, garmin is a laggy piece of crap that measures the pulse of even a sausage, 99% of all this noise like body battery, deep sleep and hrv are useless. I woke up and I feel great or maybe my head hurts, who cares what the clock says, today I have a workout and a lot of work.
Always been apple i watch user. Had fenix 6 pro for few years then bought apple ultra. Apple ultra is literally a regular i watch with extra day battery life. Apple ultra was nice but since i am very active with running, weight lifting, and soccer. I went back to Garmin with 7 pro solar. The only thing i miss about Apple ultra is Siri , calculator and able to talk and reply from watch. I mainly switched back to garmin because of garmin emphasis on your training. Basically garmin has exact same feature as whoop and mix of apple without the whoop subscription. If you look the whoop recovery recommendations then garmin is way to go plus the amazing battery life.
Thank u for this comment, that’s exactly what I’m debating rt 😅 I want to get a whoop to get my sleep, nd strain data but that subscription it’s stopping me, that’s why I’m looking at the Garmin Watch option instead, since I also do weight lifting.
battery life is a fair point. what makes me stick to apple is sensor accuracy. it's been demonstrated that garmin's heart rate sensors are not as accurate as the apple watch. many people on reddit report that sleep tracking is useless on the garmin as well
I haven’t run into any issues with heart rate tracking on my Garmin Forerunner 265s, it’s pretty much aligned with my Apple Watch. As for sleep, Apple Watch is marginally better, where I see the most difference is that Apple is better at recognizing how long you wake in the middle of the night(potty breaks) and Garmin sometimes registers you being awake for a half hr when maybe you were tossing around a bit instead of actually being “awake”. I trust neither for nor do I care about sleep stages at this time in life so not sure how reliable either is. I’ve always heard no wearable is great with sleep stages at this time. But both devices as well as my Coros Pace 3 does great with identifying the time you fell asleep and when you officially woke up. If you’re not a stickler about the potentially awake times in the middle of the night then Garmins other features will definitely be rewarding, especially that battery life! But there’s tons more to it.
They must have older Garmins. My Enduro 2 is spot on, and the latest sensor module in the Fenix 8 and Enduro 3 exceed Apple - and Garmin measures Pulse OX while Apple cannot.
To a small extent I would agree, maybe when I am walking and not in a workout it can be slightly out. However when doing a workout it is always pretty much spot on, so much so that I never bother using my Garmin Chest Heart rate strap with my watch.
I've had 3 Garmin Fenix watches over the years and they were all good. But in day to day life I have never needed all the stuff the Garmin offers. My biggest problem with Garmin is and was the slow response. Whenever I needed offline maps or something like that it took forever to navigate. The physical buttons are very nice tho, but I have had a way better experience with the Apple Watch Ultra so far. I think if you are a very serious sports person you should consider a Garmin, but if you are more of an enthusiast the Apple Watch covers your need very well.
Love my Garmin Marq! Great fitness watches. Crazy battery life, great fitness app. Being able to swap phones and even pair to multiple phones is also really handy for me.
1:45 The other big advantage of the buttons over touchscreen is if you're hiking in somewhere cold and you wear gloves. It's why I'm sticking with the Garmin, although I have to admit that LTE would be nice when trail running by myself.
I've been meaning to upgrade my Apple Watch for a while now and really have been curious with Garmin's lineup, but there's just a few things that's not made me feel the urgency to do so atm. 1) I have fitness goals but my life goals are generally not fitness based. I exercise to be healthier and feel better but ultimately fitness is a means rather than the goal in itself for me. 2) Charging the watch is already part of the daily ritual at this point, leave it when you get ready in the morning, and once when you get ready for the evening. Shower, cooking, working from home/watching YT, not really wearing a watch. 3) Just the little things that I do a lot, use find my (which Garmin can too), reply to messages via voice-to-text, and take pictures with the Apple Watch at times. Will still look around tho, but not feeling the need for now 🍃 great vid !
I am a marathoner. I used Garmin for several years. Once Apple got a better battery that would last a full marathon I switched. Will not go back. I like that I can choose my own run tracker.
I ran yesterday one with streaming music the entire time, worked out great. I had 20% left when I got home: 10-6pm, while not plenty I did not feel that the watch will run out of juice during the race
As someone who just loves tech in general and has used both apple AND android devices I honestly appreciate when someone is an apple user but not a fully committed cult member and willing to at least TRY out different devices outside of Apple lmao. This watch honestly has me intrigued and I may end up trying it out. Definitely sounds interesting and has a lot of cool things my ultra is lacking.
I am a triathlon enthusiast and a technophile that had been away from the Apple ecosystem for about 15 years, but since buying a new Macbook I got sucked back in and switched my Garmin Epix Gen 2 for the Apple Watch Ultra 2. I agree with all the points here and they are the reasons that I keep thinking about going back. But... ... Garmin lost my trust when the back button stopped working and they left me without it for a month. After getting it back, it broke again in a week, the same exact problem: the contact oxidized. Since i need it to work in water and not break, I moved away. Also it seems to be a chronic problem of the model. I have already participated in a 70.3 with the Ultra 2 and finished it with just above half the battery. So it can take it. I think it is important to state that I do not live in the US and that may have importance on the repair experience.
I switched from Apple to Garmin because of battery life, but after 6 months I’m still struggling with the settings, it’s too complicated. I liked the button operation, but I’ll soon go back to Apple to have a better user experience.
For me, I actually switched back from Garmin back to Apple. Haha! After running Chicago with the Ultra 2, my pace/distance was on point with all those tall buildings, I was like I’m sticking with it!
I choose Apple Watch, cuz when I go on my training I don’t need my phone. Can call, but more what make my decision to switch to Apple Watch is that I can play music on EarPods even without internet. Big minus is to battery. On my Instinct x2 solar 44 days without charge. Apple Watch every 2 days … btw nice video 😊
Completely agree! The amoled Garmin's are a good balance offering most of the smartwatch features, but with tons of training data! I also didn't think I would be using the flashlight, but every time I try to go back to a normal smartwatch, the on screen one just doesn't compare. If you're not a smartwatch super-user, Garmin will provide most of the information that you need!
That’s true. But from my experience (I am not a runner) a lot of the data really doesn’t matter. Coming from Apple I was really excited about all the data Garmin provides, but after 8 months I am rather disappointed. The new training readiness feature for example is something that never worked out for me. The problem is that it is highly dependent on the sleep data, which in my case is always way off. 8 Month and I am always sleeping poorly, which I am strongly doubt. So the data shows that my training readiness is always low. Besides that the feature is not needed since Garmin already shows me the estimated recovery time. They also have a separate HRV tracking, but HRV is already included in the sleep segment. The body battery is also way off. And they don’t even show me the steps for a run or walk. They don’t show the heart rate stress score or the heart rate recovery score. I got all those features from an app on my AW that was 7 €! That’s ridiculous. So they are basically blowing up the watch with features that are total unnecessary, but are really missing key features. Another disappointment was the app, which is not as good at all. I didn’t like the Apple App, but the Garmin App is not that much better. So far Garmin has been a total disappointment for me.
@@mr.sonnyrocket I am in the same boat, body battery always wrong sleep always wrong unless you pair with a heart rate strap its just not correct, I have a measured walk that is dead on 6mile and one measured dead on 10 and my Garmin has always been so far off stopping point till I don't track a walk/run with it anymore. now the watch is pretty but my top choise for an accurate watch with just as much data will always be AWU os 11 paired with athlytic app and work outdoors.
@@mr.sonnyrocket also I have only used the connect app for a few watch faces which if it isn't a Garmin Face it's really worthless to me some cause heavy batter drain and some are just bad, the complications are horrible on the watch you have to press a million times for them to work wet screen or not, very anoying when my AWU's will pop right up. I still love the Garmin it's just not my go to watch anymore.
Very accurate points, I just started running last year and after my 3 year old AW starting dying mid runs decided to get a Garmin. Ultimately landed on the Forerunner 965 after testing 4 different models, I'd love an Epix Pro 2 or Fenix 8 but couldn't justify the price difference.
Great video! Just a quick note regarding the Garmin's being "not as smart" - they do have two models that support taking phone calls (Venu 3 and Fenix 8) and many more that support responding to messages directly on device, however, these functions are only available when paired to an Android phone due to artificial limitations on Apple's side. Apple intentionally limits integration with third-party accessories to help sell more Apple Watches.
the thing about the AWU is it has cellular without having to have your phone in your pocket or anywhere near you.....Garmin doesn't have that yet and probably never will because of battery drain, they would no longer be able to claim longest batter life!
@@davidbraswell1481 no they did make a cellular watch a couple of years back. I think its discontinued now though, not sure if it just didnt sell or what. But I mean lets be honest, if the fenix/epix is your type of watch and you really want to take a "phone" with you, if you can afford the 1000k price you can almost certainly stretch to the cheapest AW cellular to have in a pocket without a big phone flapping around.
As you have the apple watch just sitting in a drawer - why not use it like I do mine - take it on activities as a pure 1 inch iphone :) I wear my garmin 24/7 and just take the apple watch on activities so have apple music , phone connectivity in an emergency etc etc without the need to take a full phone, but track the activity on the garmin.
I switched for much the same reasons - the battery life wasn't such a big push for day to day life, but for weekends away it's handy, the fitness stuff in the Garmin ecosystem is really compelling. The built-in maps for hiking are very useful too, I'd find it hard to go back to Apple even though the AW is a *far* better smart watch for almost everything else!
The problem with Garmin watch is the step calculation, it also counts your steps when you're driving or commuting with vehicles. Which is quite annoying when you're trying to get your step calculations correct for your exercise.
They all kinda stink on this. My Apple Watch Ultra has closed my step ring when I've been sitting at my desk typing before. A prior wrist worn fitness device from fitbit gave me TONS of steps when I was chopping stuff with a knife while cooking.
Awesome video. I also changed from the AW-Ultra to the garmin Fenix 8. And I really loved my AW but at the end the battery-life and the fact that the AW accidently stopped several times recording my activities. I was really pissed of at the end. So I decided to switch to garmin. The menu structure is far away from good, but at the end the feature package and the awesome battery life is outstanding. Would I switch again? YES!
Nice job on this video. 👏👏👏 You are right. The Garmin comes out of the box with some great features. The Apple Watch can access many of those features, but does so via a very robust 3rd party app store. For example, the Apple Watch app WorkOutDoors has all of the mapping features of the Garmin, plus a lot, LOT more! It cost $7.00 US. (6 Euros). But, man, what an incredible app! The flashlight on the Garmin is super nice. But the Ultra 2 uses its 3000 nit screen as a very functional flashlight that can also be set to strobe mode or red light mode. I use it all the time if riding my bike in the dark and when involved in evening astronomy activities. I hope this doesn't come off as defensive. I think the Garmin is a fantastic watch. I'd be happy to own one. But the Ultra 2 is also a fantastic watch. You just need to access that "fantasticness" in different ways at times.
I have to charge my Apple watch 8 twice a day, this is ridiculous. And if I have to turn off all features for it to last one day, it's pretty stupid as it turns into a regular watch that you have to charge every day. Moving to a Garmin (probably the Vivomove 5) watch very soon.
The only one reason why I use Garmin is the longer battery life. Garmin is not smart enough to compare with Apple or Samsung watches, but since battery life is longer more than 10 times, it really makes a difference.
I only want to point out the hand gestures from Apple Watch, when you start it can be a bit difficult to use, but once you get used to it is super easy to use your watch even when it is wet or when your other hand is not available at the moment.
Pretty much convinced me to get a Garmin, but I'm still not quite sure what feature I lose (what Apple Watch has that Garmin doesn't). Could you elaborate more on that/do a video?
you can't reply to messages directly from the watch. for me that feature doesn't matter to me, i reply every message through my phone anyway. you're not losing any feature at all actually
You can go out on a run without your phone, you can stream music while running, make/take calls, have Siri make reminders or appointments while on the run (a lot of things comes to mind when I go on a casual run), ask Siri random stuff like sports score, and etc. I have tried Garmin, but besides long battery life it doesn’t really do anything better. I don’t track my sleep with watches because I hate wearing them to bed so for me AW’s charging isn’t an issue since I just charge it along with the phone while going to bed. Apple was able to miniaturize their SoC for AW10 but the fact that they didn’t take this opportunity to insert a bigger battery just tells you for majority of AW users, having to charge frequently isn’t a big deal for them. That’s why Apple preferred to make the watch thinner than having a longer battery life.
I have worn an apple watch ultra for 2 1/2 years now and in the last year I have worn an apple watch ultra and a Garmin Epix Pro g2 51 mm and I by far would choose AWU over the Garmin any day of the week. you have freedom from your phone with apple watch ultra you can make calls take emergency calls if you're in an accident it will call EMS to your location even if you are unconscious and not able to speak I have this and the accident I was in last year my AWU called EMS for me and when I came to, I was in the hospital, and the watch I bought my father detected AFIB and trigeminy on him and saved his life they did an ablation and all is good the health benefits of the AWU far exceed the battery life on a Garmin watch, that can run an ECG but it doesn't alert you to having the condition like AWU does!
Love Garmins, all I’ve owned are great and offer so much in terms of fitness tools, especially for runners. Would love to upgrade to a more integrated smart watch version since i’m currently rocking the Forerunner 255, but even the 255 works amazing for all my running needs
One thing he failed to mention, you can use the AWU without having to use the touch screen. You can enable the feature to squeeze your fist and pinch your fingers and you can do just about anything without ever touching the watch. It does take a little getting use to but it works supringly well. I rarely touch the screen on mine
keep your apple, I went and bought the Garmin Epix Pro g2 51mm and by the time I do my 2 hr walk/run every night I only get 5 days battery using the strobe function and I have to take my phone to bounce flop and it just pisses me off with my ultra I can run with my Bose ear buds and not worry with bringing my phone to piss me off. GPS on the AWU is better everything is better with work outdoors app 1 time fee of 5.99 and your still 400 bucks cheaper with a way better watch that you don't need button presses !
Fenix 7 pro user but… There is ah EPIC reason why I still maintain the AW, that sadly no garmin can replace… cellular connectivity is such an obvious advantage
Apple Watch with 2 apps: Workoutpro for detailed offline maps and Athlytic for workout suggesting and monitoring recuperation (even though new launched Vitals can evolve for replacing that eventually)....I considered buying a Garmin but pretty much I hate that almost all "titanium" Garmin watches are not actually made by titanium (with the exception of the REALLY expensive ones), instead are plated with it...and the rest is like Casio resin....
😎Apple Watch does so much more and is the “smartest” watch which is why the battery life is what it is. For Apple’s ecosystem, Apple Watch is the better choice, however of course everyone has the freedom to choose. That’s the great option of life.✌️
I respectfully disagree. Functionality between two comparable Garmin/Apple watches is a wash in terms of OS requirements. You can connect Garmins to Android phones just like AW to iPhones. Watch OS is simply less efficient than Garmin OS. I don’t know if Apple is using code generators or what, but there is some reason why a Garmin Enduro 3 has 10 times the battery life of an AW Ultra. It’s not “smartness “.
Honestly I can’t get over the fact that the Garmin watches aren’t looking smooth at all animation wise…That’s actually a no go for me. When I have a watch I want it to be fluid, not laggy AF
As a Triathlete, I actually wear both of my watches daily. I was introduced to Garmin two years ago and fell in love oxoxox. However I couldn't bring myself to ditch my Apple. Plus the screen is nicer for pictures :)
True better fitness watch. But the calls and messaging is a feature on the Apple Watch is something I use all the time. But what the best inexpensive garmin watch?
A friend recently got a Garmin because he is into paddling sports. While using the Garmin, he noticed that his heart rate was off. After visiting the doctor, it turned out that he has atrial fibrillation. He didn't buy the most expensive watch, but if he had purchased an Apple Watch, it would have alerted him to this condition. Apple's advancements in health are what they will be remembered for, not just for computers or phones. The Garmin may be a sports watch, but the Apple Watch could potentially save your life.
it saved my dad's life last year; my dad's watch (series 8) found a dangerous AFIB and also trigeminy they did an ablation and now all is gone, and he is doing so much more before he had no energy and always sitting watching tv too tired to do much of anything.
I'm not sure which Garmin model he had but quite a few of Garmin's models do in fact support abnormal heart rate alerts and would notify you in the case of afib. That's not to downplay Apple's advancements in the health detection area, they're definitely leading the pack there, just wanted to point out in that particular scenario, a more capable Garmin would have also alerted him.
@@carloscssr No it will not notify you only Apple watches do that period. what Garmin does is let you run a ECG to see if you have AFIB it does NOT notify you. I have an Ultra and a Garmin Epix pro 51mm and it does not notify. The way Apple does it is it watches your heart 24/7 and in Apple health app I get a notice every Monday about my heart and AFIB my Garmin has never gave me any update or anything about my heart unless I go looking for it or run an ECG on my own.
Two different watches, but Garmin Fenix/Epix series is still the King on Tracking and sports. But far behind the Aw Ultra on Smartwatch features and the LTE is necessary for me for daily use. :)
I tried switching to an AWU2 from my Epix Pro and went back to Garmin in a week. AWU2 was 79g with the trail loop, Epix Pro is 52g with the ultra fit band and this is very noticeable. Better data screens, maps within the activity app, buttons, actually useful HRV measurements for training readiness, and the flashlight are things I couldn’t give up for a training device. The AWU2’s big wins were a more readable always on display, and haptic engine. Can’t have it all…
My friend, if 1.3 oz is "very noticeable" on your wrist, you need to hit the gym. Maybe if you go back and forth within a few seconds you'll notice it. But after a week nobody will notice a 1.3 oz difference on the wrist after wearing it daily.
Garmin is ok but apple is better in all aspects. I know people will say battery life, but Garmin is only doing 10% of what Apple Watches are doing. I’m always on the go and my Apple Watch Ultra 2 a beast! Tracking my fitness activities for my goals, I can leave my phone in my car and focus on my workouts without the bulk of my phone. It’s a perfect wingman for my physical and mental health.
great video... and bonus for me I just bought this watch... I have the Apple watch ultra2 on one wrist and the other the Garmin Epix pro gen 2 and the flashlight feature is Genius on a watch - will definitely use it on a hiking trip... just figured out how to use the light but ... Blitz mode I have to figure that one out... thanks again - there are alternatives to apple watch...
Hi! I own an epix pro gen 2. Can you really use this for diving? I thought mk2i/mk3i is the watch made for diving and though epix pro gen 2 says it can go 100 meters. Not sure if that really is. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.
I’m an iphone & mac user but for watch, i’m using garmin fenix 7….basically its the battery & gps endurance. I only need to charge it maybe abt once every 2 weeks. Btw, i’m doing trialthlon etc…nothing beat garmin for swim, run & bike
hello! nice to hear that. i also am thinking to buy a garmin watch.. i swim in the sea and runing a lot. are you happy with the accuracy when you swim?
One thing I really hate about Garmin watches is their software segmentation. I was looking at replacing my Apple watch 7 with either a Venu 3 or a Forerunner 265, but none offer as comprehensive a software solution as the Apple watch. Both are lacking random features that the other one has, for seemingly no reason other than to drive customers to the next higher Model. The Joke is that even the Venu 3 is more expensive than a normal Apple watch, yet the software is much less complete and the sensors measurably worse. I guess I will be sticking with the fruit company and maybe buying a used ultra instead.
TBH I gonna wear both watches. Apple Music on Ultra is an unbeatable experience. I think buying a low-end garmin is enough for those additional function.
If you like outdoor activity such as Camping, hiking, long distance running, and etc, Garmin is awesome with great GPS and battery life. Enduro 3 has 90day battery life. If you are just living in the city and want to use smartwatch for paying transportation, movie theater and indoor fitness, Apple Watch is better.
Just upgraded to the Series 10 for my birthday, the faster charging makes it way more capable for using it like I use to have my Whoop strap. (I use the Bevel app on the Apple Watch to account for tracking daily Strain)
the garninm also pairs to their inreach satelite system so you can control it all from the watch... so you can just hang the trasmitter and not worry about gettig to it. \ but BATTERY BATTERY BATTERY is the one and main reason im not switching to an apple watch from my 3 year old!! garmin.
I bought my Pixel 8 Pro for $850 AUD and my Garmin Epix Pro 2 51 for $998. Still less than just a Pro Max. I wasn't up for paying apple tax. Imagine if anything breaks LMAO. Last Garmin watch I had was the Venu SQ and bought it on launch, I got a free replacement from Garmin 2 years after, complaining and being petty. But the good customer service, reliability, durability and value sold me on getting the upgrade. Sad because of the limited functionality due to Apple ecosystem, sorry for your loss.
Hmmm you didn’t mention what I’ll have to give up switching to the Garmin. Just a video suggestion. I don’t believe that it is possible for a watch with all of the features I use daily on the apple watch ultra can last more than a few days without charging, but I am ready to be proven wrong. Also whats with that price tag…. Did you get the watch for free?
I chose a Garmin Epix gen 2 over an Apple Watch Ultra simply because Apple can't do bike routing in the UK (except as a demo feature in central London). It's been years since Apple Maps on my iPhone was supposed to do bike routing and it still doesn't work. The Garmin works everywhere without a cell signal and it works with my old but perfectly functional powe-rmeter. As to LTE functionality, what I really need for safety is satellite, so I'm always going to have my iPhone on me anyway.
I switched from Garmin to Apple watch because the garmin watch was starting very clunky in the UI , lot of lags . Personally I want a daily smartwatch not some uber sports training watch
The Apple Ultra was better as smart watch for a tethered city/metro person, but the 1.5 day max battery life became increasingly annoying for serious multi-day outdoor use and great map access. There is no perfect solution so you have to rank the features you want and compromise on the rest. I am moving to Garmin.
People complaining about the battery life, just take a shower at least once a day and charge it, whenever your sitting at work take 5 mins and charge it, it will show the hour and it will also expose your skin to some fresh air, if you are driving guess what? you can charge it!, you will never have batttery issues and you will get an awesome iOS experience and ecosystem interaction.
There is really no comparison possible, one of them is a SmartWatch with some sports functions and another is a sports watch with some smart functions. If you are really serious about your training and health, Garmin, if you play sports but you are not an athlete or don't need to have high performance, Apple. Greetings
Apple is not trying to catch up. They are trying to string people along thinking there is something there or coming but you are left hollow. Why Apple when you could do it with Garmin years ago. Go Garmin!
Uhh this is the mindset of people who buys a product thinking of possible future updates, which is not right. You should be buying a product based on what features it offers on the day you buy it. If you think another product fulfills all your needs, then you should choose that over everything else.
I switched from AWU to the Epix Pro Gen 2 51mm as well. Far better for training. Another cool feature with shortcuts is you can still use wireless pay as well.
Actually, almost same reasons for me to abandon apple. Constant worrying about battery level. With Garmin I don't even bother to check the battery level before a trip.

HOWEVER, some comments have mention that the software experience in Garmin watches is (relative -to AW-) not good. it is really that bad? It is buggy? or it is just different?. Thanks.
It’s just different. The Garmin Connect UI does not mimic Apple. You have to get familiar with it. And, my Enduro 2 has so many more customizable features than my AW did, it can be overwhelming. Check out the Enduro 3; I just bought one for my son. Even better solar charging than mine, upgraded sensors, and Garmin dropped the price by $200.
Two weeks ago I had to choose my new watch after using Apple Watch 4 for over 5 years. Guess what I've bought? Yes... Garmin Fenix 7x. I'm not the sportsmen type, more like fat ass trying to get into shape, but my watch need to give me data, reliability and most important - it doesn't have to be charged every few hours. Right now I'm at the level of learning about my watch but I can say, that I'm already happy with that choice.
1 day battery is a jail. Semi-smart watch, that receives calls and show messages, with a good heart rate sensor is enough. There is $100 options now. Last 5 days for me, wireless charged from phone if I forget that it is 15% battery in morning.
as a person who constantly changing smartwatches (Apple Watch, Garmin, Coros, etc.), this is fair points.

At least 70 % battery left after a round.

my dad is in the Hospital again for falling 2 times yesterday I grabbed his phone and quickly seen where he is having AFIB again after his APPLE WATCH SERIES 8 detected AFIB and PVCs on his ECG I ran on him then we rushed him into the hospital where he is right this moment. Also in APPLE HEALTH it shows where his sleep apnea is causing his heart to dip down in the 30s at night, So we are heading back up there to get the scoop on all tests at 6:30 pm central.

Wow 7 years with a garmin and a week later ditched garmin 4ever.
with 2 days battery life?

the same story :) but I tried garmen fenix 8 for a week and was already done with Garmin 😅fenix 8 costed to me 1.2k$ in Europe, and it's too expensive for such a weak watch.
Do that while diving

Let's be real, Garmin is superior as a fitness and health tracker with longevity of battery life.
Why is it so hard to place a watch on a puck for a few minutes to charge it ?
It's funny that the squats are shown incorrectly on the clock) the dummy collapses its knees inward in the lower phase
@@David-nx2vm Apple Watch 6 or later has Pulse Ox.
Which watch do you daily? 🤔
1:45 The other big advantage of the buttons over touchscreen is if you're hiking in somewhere cold and you wear gloves. It's why I'm sticking with the Garmin, although I have to admit that LTE would be nice when trail running by myself.
I switch between Ultra2, Garmin Epix, Ticwatch and Suunto Peak depending on usage. Your points are dead-on.

If you're not a smartwatch super-user, Garmin will provide most of the information that you need!
so will AWU you just need to learn how.....
@@davidbraswell1481 Yeah, thinking about going back to Apple. Is athlytic working for you?
I got the Fenix 8 last week and was debating getting the Apple Watch - I made the right choice (Garmin is just great)
You get Fénix 8 MIP or Amoled ?
As you have the apple watch just sitting in a drawer - why not use it like I do mine - take it on activities as a pure 1 inch iphone :) I wear my garmin 24/7 and just take the apple watch on activities so have apple music , phone connectivity in an emergency etc etc without the need to take a full phone, but track the activity on the garmin.
Diving with apple watch ultra for 2 years. Recently getting myself Garmin Mk3i, it was best decision ever. No more charging every day. 😅
I just switched from Apple Watch Ultra 2 to Garmin Fenix 8. I glad to make this decision.
is there a workout app like that garmin one on apple watches with detailed info and stuff?.. i hate subscriptions but i'd definitely pay for that
The problem with Garmin watch is the step calculation, it also counts your steps when you're driving or commuting with vehicles.
Bar in doesn’t have noise measuring, its important feature apple automatically measure when u are expose to loud environment
Moving to a Garmin (probably the Vivomove 5) watch very soon.
looking at the price for Garmin Epix Pro compares to Samsung Galaxy Watch 7, I am sticking to smart watch
@@nuhagunawanthe replies are canned though. So if it’s something complicated, you have to use your phone to reply back.

One thing he failed to mention, you can use the AWU without having to use the touch screen. You can enable the feature to squeeze your fist and pinch your fingers and you can do just about anything without ever touching the watch. It does take a little getting use to but it works supringly well. I rarely touch the screen on mine
As an Apple Watch Ultra User I can confidently say..
Garmin is better.
I have an Apple Watch Ultra and would love to switch to Fenix 8. But the Price for Garmin is too high.
keep your apple, I went and bought the Garmin Epix Pro g2 51mm and by the time I do my 2 hr walk/run every night I only get 5 days battery using the strobe function and I have to take my phone to bounce flop and it just pisses me off with my ultra I can run with my Bose ear buds and not worry with bringing my phone to piss me off. GPS on the AWU is better everything is better with work outdoors app 1 time fee of 5.99 and your still 400 bucks cheaper with a way better watch that you don't need button presses !
Fenix 7 pro user but… There is ah EPIC reason why I still maintain the AW, that sadly no garmin can replace… cellular connectivity is such an obvious advantage
same - trumps everything else
Apple Watch with 2 apps: Workoutpro for detailed offline maps and Athlytic for workout suggesting and monitoring recuperation (even though new launched Vitals can evolve for replacing that eventually)....I considered buying a Garmin but pretty much I hate that almost all "titanium" Garmin watches are not actually made by titanium (with the exception of the REALLY expensive ones), instead are plated with it...and the rest is like Casio resin....
Haven’t touched my Apple Watch since I got my Garmin Fenix 6x Great video
😎Apple Watch does so much more and is the “smartest” watch which is why the battery life is what it is. For Apple’s ecosystem, Apple Watch is the better choice, however of course everyone has the freedom to choose. That’s the great option of life.✌️
Love the open mindedness!
@@David-nx2vm As an Enduro 3 owner, I fully agree.
amazing video, I have the Fenix 7 pro solar, didn't even know some of the stuff you mention, wow
Honestly I can’t get over the fact that the Garmin watches aren’t looking smooth at all animation wise…That’s actually a no go for me. When I have a watch I want it to be fluid, not laggy AF
Great video. What is the name of your Garmin watchface please ?
Any top garmin will do that...
@@carloscssr Sure?, - where is this documented by Garmin
I actaully dislike the Apple watch a lot. Having to charge it every night is insane. I also only use the watch for the time and working out.
I switched from Ultra 1 to series 10 this year, battery is almost as good, and charges faster. Much more comfortable.
After getting the very first Apple Watch I never upgraded because of the battery life. This Garmin watch sounds very tempting.
great video... and bonus for me I just bought this watch...
I think buying a low-end garmin is enough for those additional function.
does garmin support showing calendar info from outlook on iOS?
If you like outdoor activity such as Camping, hiking, long distance running, and etc, Garmin is awesome with great GPS and battery life. Enduro 3 has 90day battery life. If you are just living in the city and want to use smartwatch for paying transportation, movie theater and indoor fitness, Apple Watch is better.
How is the surf tracking and tides charts on the garmin?
Just upgraded to the Series 10 for my birthday, the faster charging makes it way more capable for using it like I use to have my Whoop strap. (I use the Bevel app on the Apple Watch to account for tracking daily Strain)
That workout animation is very useful
Do those routes and maps come on all Garmin watches? I’m considering getting a Enduro 3. Thanks.
Battery life sold me on the Garmin as a replacement. Evaluating the Fenix 8 models now.
the garninm also pairs to their inreach satelite system so you can control it all from the watch... so you can just hang the trasmitter and not worry about gettig to it. \
but BATTERY BATTERY BATTERY is the one and main reason im not switching to an apple watch from my 3 year old!! garmin.
When it comest to notification, is it all apps or i can set which app pop up on the watch ?
Garmin is max laggy, how you can use these maps ? :D
Great vid. I’ve always had a IPhone but currently have a Garmin MARQ and would never go to any Apple Watch
Garmin software and UI/UX is slow. How many buttons to set it? Apple Watch user who gave a Garmin a fair whack for workouts then dumped the Garmin
My only gripe with IPhone + Gamrin is that you cant turn off phone alarm with your watch. I miss this feature moving from my android phone.
Epix Pro 51mm is a beast
Nothing compares to it, except Fenix 8 amoled AND Tactix 8 amoled
The Apple Ultra was better as smart watch for a tethered city/metro person, but the 1.5 day max battery life became increasingly annoying for serious multi-day outdoor use and great map access. There is no perfect solution so you have to rank the features you want and compromise on the rest. I am moving to Garmin.
Does the oxygen sensor work in the US?
Greetings
I play sports but not athlete and don’t need high performance, but do like premium build quality and material design, hence I went for a Garmin.
I think that the most sensible comment I read so far
Bought a seiko presage open heart. Never returning to a smart watch again
What in particular do you feel is better with the garmin training wise?
Actually, almost same reasons for me to abandon apple. Constant worrying about battery level. With Garmin I don't even bother to check the battery level before a trip.
I think some of the issues with Apple Watch are easily solved with 3rd party apps, like Atheletics for recovery, or Workoutdoors for routes, offline maps and great activity tracking. Apple Watch as a flashlight too.
But yeah, the applewatch definitly sucks in terms of battery life
Sorry ,I’ve changed my mind I’m going with Garmin ,I’ve got the ultra and fenix 6 sapphire but I’m going for a newer garmin thanks 🏴❤️😊
What model of this garmin watch?
Agree... I am aiming for the Forerunner 955, Fenix 7 Pro, Fenix 8 Solar or Enduro 3..
Even better solar charging than mine, upgraded sensors, and Garmin dropped the price by $200.
what is the name of the white band of the thumbnail? Seems it is no ocean band 🤔

I love my Sunnto Vertical. I hast Garmin for 3 years but I Like the Vertical a bit more
Two weeks ago I had to choose my new watch after using Apple Watch 4 for over 5 years. Guess what I've bought? Yes... Garmin Fenix 7x. I'm not the sportsmen type, more like fat ass trying to get into shape, but my watch need to give me data, reliability and most important - it doesn't have to be charged every few hours. Right now I'm at the level of learning about my watch but I can say, that I'm already happy with that choice.
if you apple watch ultra is collecting dust in the drawer can you send it over so i can use it 😅
I will always choose garmin due to battery life. My MIP version lasts around 27 days lol
1 day battery is a jail. Semi-smart watch, that receives calls and show messages, with a good heart rate sensor is enough. There is $100 options now. Last 5 days for me, wireless charged from phone if I forget that it is 15% battery in morning.
