    From the point of view of a non ultra endurance athlete, but a man who likes to keep in shape and have a nice, long lasting watch (me), I still think my 6X pro is quite enough to cover all my needs (just this summer two triathlons, one marathon, couple of swimming events and a lot of hiking and biking and running for the holidays) with quality to spare.
    But if I have to choose an upgrade today, I'll go for the Enduro 3.
    Don't really care for the "smart" features of mic/speaker (I understand the pressure from the Apple Watch Ultra, but I still don't care), I don't dive, and since I actually like the MiP screen, I cannot justify the price upgrade of a Fenix 8 with MiP. The Enduro fits better in my needs and the threshold I'll not cross about the price (and in 6 months it'll be far, far cheaper).
    Obviously just my two cents and also my 6x pro is going to last a long, long time still... so I'll probably cross that bridge around the Fenix 10 and Enduro 5 release. :D
    Still thanks for all your good work and dedication to keep us informed customers. ;)

If you don't have the need for a speaker/mic (don't want to use your watch as a phone) or dive support, Fenix 7 pro is as good as Fenix 8 and not that expensive! Great choice!

    The confusing thing about the "Pro" vs the "number" version is that from the consumer POV the Fenix 7 Pro was a bigger improvement than the Fenix 8.
    I guess the difference is more obvious under the hood and there will be features only available for the Fenix 8 but the naming doesn't make a lot of sense for the user.

    I went from Epix 2 to the Enduro 3. I go tired of constantly charging when using AOD. I also didn't like that AOD on the AMOLED didn't show all the info unless "activated". It was a great watch, but the Enduro 3 is absolutely amazing.

      BUT thaks a lot as I took time to compare AOD and, as I switch from Galaxy watch ultra I was dissapointed to see how dim AOD is in Garmin compared to Galaxy watch ultra (or even AWU). I understand the battery life but for ,e this is a dealbreaker. AOD is half the value of the watch for me because, as a watch, I need all info alleays ant don't have to move the wrist to see the info
      I was about to swith from Galaxy to Fenix 8 for better battery life and better design, but now I saw this dimmer AOD not to mention how much better AOD GWU or AWU have.

    Here's what I think Garmin should've done (or should do in the future): Drop the two MIP options from the Fenix _and_ make the Enduro in 3 different sizes. That would be the same number of models, but the difference between the two lines would be crystal clear and there would again be a small MIP option.

    Great video from two of the very best. I’ve got the Fenix 8 43 mm and love it. The price is questionable though. I sold 2 older Garmin devices and managed to get a discount so wasn’t too much of a pinch. Would be great I Garmin could introduce trade in’s in the future. Where we get a partial refund when they receive our older device’. This would be a big sustainability tick for them.
    For future iterations I’d still like to see a slimmer watch for the 43mm and would be happy for the screen size to increase a little more for this. However, that said I 100 % agree about wanting a siren. Being a solo female runner it would give some kind of assurance or for when out on trails, if I was to fall in a place with limited or no reception etc.

    Good review sirs!
    To each their own but it might be time to upgrade and relegate my Forerunner 920xt (the OG Square body trisports watch, which is still rocking as my daily!) to the tribars on my bike. I'm a guy with thick wrists but these watches are getting goofy big, hell, I'd do the 43mm if it could be configured in solar. I'm up in the air on F8 47mm colors though. The black is classic sleek and understated but the titanium (if switching out the yellow band) would also look good and not look like every other tactical/trisports watch bro that's out there. The amoled is beautiful but I'm thinking that the benefit of having to charge less often would be worth it with a solar version.

    I have Garmin Fenix 7X Pro. When deciding which to get, Fenix or Epix, I went with Fenix, because I just prefer MIP over AMOLED for rugged outdoor watch. Previously I was G-Shock user. I know AMOLED is great nowadays, battery last a while. But, just personal preference. When I decide to change watch, I'll probably go with Enduro. I don't need it, I'm not an ultra runner, but I run, trail run, hike, ride mtb, weight lift... Plus, due to hand size, I gotta go with 51mm, or else watch looks like a child's 😁 as I said, nothing against AMOLED, but just too bright and colourful for me. Regarding new lineup, there's nothing that would make me to upgrade to gen 8 from 7X Pro. I don't dive, and I don't need microphone and speaker on my watch. Actually, don't know what future iterations have to bring, to want to upgrade. Not sure does LTE looks interesting, not sure how will that work in my country and what plans would be available from my carrier. But 7X Pro is a damn capable watch! Great episode guys, and great reviews on your channels. And that trip in Spain was awesome, it seems. And you guys really go an extra mile (or should I say kilometre, since I'm European?) to present us with most accurate and in depth reviews.

    Thank you always for the content. I think Garmin is doing a fantastic job and hopefully they continue the push. To have a pretty full dive function and all the other functions and battery life on a single watch is amazing. Maybe showing my age, but as a kid I could not figure why I was unable to get the money, my money, from my bank account on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday. My mom swears they invented ATMs because of me -- and now of course I can use my money from my watch. My point is, for my age group, these watches are finally hitting the marks that we have always dreamed of, so the prices do not seem that out of place (compare a Rolex that shows the time and date for $20k --- ?????? WTHeck). Anyway, Amazing times!!

    @pauljbl 2 дня назад

    For me, a MIP is much more practical and beautiful as a watch, in addition to the autonomy and not having to charge the watch almost like a mobile phone. I used to have Samsung watches and I was delighted with those watches and the beautiful Amoled screen, but I got tired of taking my watch off one day and another day not. The times I haven't had the watch, the main thing and what you miss, even if it seems silly, is to look at the time and that is the main job of a watch, that's what they were created for. Anyway, I'll go on and on because I ended up taking my watch off almost every day and I changed to the Enduro 2 2 years ago and I'm delighted. I also have to say that I go for workouts every day and a lot of swimming and for swimming I can always see the MIP without having to spend 90 minutes on the Amoled screen. This year, after studying it a lot and with the new models, I was thinking of going for the Enduro 3, but I was put off by the cheap plastic case cover, the loss of microphone and speaker and, above all, the sealed buttons, since I swim a lot every day and can touch them in the pool. Of course, I will miss the lighter weight at the expense of the cheap cover, of course, and the super autonomy and, of course, the price, but I got my Fenix 8 51mm Solar for €1055, not so bad.
    I am a defender of applied technologies where they belong, and a watch should have a MIP screen in any case, and the Fenix 8 51mm Amoled has a 29-day screen, but that's with the turn of the wrist and then the screen is off all the time, and if you leave it fixed, the screen can burn. The MIP looks fantastic, it's not the same, of course, but it's a watch, you have to take it into account. All watches nowadays look the same with the screen always black, the Fenix are so pretty they look gorgeous, many people ask me about the watch and tell me what a beautiful watch the numbers look so good.
    I'll stop bothering you now. I look forward to your opinions.
    MIP X EVER!!!!!

    Des did you not have gesture backlight enabled on enduro? I’ve had MIP display and didn’t have a problem seeing it in shade/night because I had gesture backlight on. If I didn’t have that, I wouldn’t be able to see the screen in those conditions. Epix pro was ANNOYING. When I drive, I can’t read the screen. I had to give an exaggerated gesture to get the screen to go bright to read it, whereas with MIP, I could read it.

    Well, I am a die-hard Garmin fanboy. I have always bought the latest and greatest Fenix/Tactix since the Tactix Bravo series... However, I have to admit that this is the first time that I feel that the new model would be a waste of money.... I currently own a Fenix 7 pro and I have to admit that the latest model doesn't offer anything that I don't already have. The MIP screen is a must for me as I usually go on multi-day events such as sailing, hiking or cycling... The Fenix 7 pro already has the 5th heart rate sensor, so that's something I already have. The microphone is completely unnecessary for me. I also appreciate the more mature, more reliable firmware (I used to test betas but there was far too much unnecessary frustration and wasted battery cycles...). So Garmin has made my life easier this time around, because I can't see any advantage with this model compared to my Fenix 7 pro... Maybe the Enduro 3 would be grate however I switched back to the 47mm case size because I feel more comfortable for daily driver.

    We need to stop talking about going deeper than 40 meters diving. So few divers are going more than 130 feet.

    • @MattSwain1
      @MattSwain1 12 дней назад +1

      It’s true. PADI open water only allows dives down to around 18m and even the PADI advanced certification only goes to around 30m so you’re definitely getting pretty specialist if 40m isn’t deep enough for you. It’s not a typical depth for a recreational diver

    Great conversation. I'm excited for the Fenix 8. Gonna go with an AMOLED for my upgrade from my Forerunner 945 but probably going to wait a couple months for Garmin to work out a few bugs and polish the new software a bit more. I'd maybe consider an Epix on sale this holiday if it got the new OS/UI. That's important to me to be able to wear it as a daily wear watch and not just during activities.

    One thing people seem to overlook whenever comparing the AWU and Garmin is how much more you get from Garmin with the price of admission. Yes, the AWU is a wonderful device but you need to buy or subscribe to apps to get what you get for "free" from Garmin. This diving discussion is a perfect example.

    The upgraded the code base. They aren’t going to invest in putting new UI nor features in previous versions. It’s unfortunate for those who just got a new device but they had to do it sometime. I was in the Epix Gen 2 (not pro) and while the Fenix 8 didn’t offer really anything new, I wanted the flashlight, lol, and it gets me on the new code base so I’ll get future updates if/as they come if hardware supports it. I was holding out for LTE, mostly got live track for Ironman racing. But I’m on an Ironman break, so I don’t really need LTE now. 2 days into the Fenix 8 (from TPC) and really liking it. I actually like the new buttons. I hated the buttons on the Epix. My only complaint is there is a little lag here and there. But it’s really not a big deal.

    • @sunhead-x
      @sunhead-x 12 дней назад

      What are you referring to with the code base? Is this anything official? Is there anything crucial related to that? I guess that the flagships of last year will get updates as well ..

    • @SteveSmith-xw7xi
      @SteveSmith-xw7xi 12 дней назад +1

      @@sunhead-x yes. Garmin said the new line is on the new code base. What that means is they basically started from scratch with the software. Usually with the new releases they build on top of software they already wrote. Just adding new logic and cleaning logic up. In this case they are inferring that that wrote all new software. This is required from time to time for several reasons. Most importantly code needs to be up to security standards. Some old types of code just can’t be updated to not be vulnerable. Sometimes it’s to stay with industry standards so things can interact with other things. Sometimes old code just can’t perform as fast as new code. I don’t know why Gamin did this now. But it’s not uncommon. That said the new and old code likely are not compatible. And Garmin isn’t going to write code the old way for olds devices. This would be double the effort in design, code, testing and maintenance. And that’s just not a good ROI. I’d expect Garmin to get back to pushed features to older models when the next version comes out. As long as the hardware can handle it.

    Great work, guys! I'm very happy with my epix Pro (Gen 2) purchase as my first Garmin last November. I'm actually okay with the new UI not coming to this watch. From everything I've seen from you guys and others the new UI doesn't add much for my usage. I know you like the new 'swipe to unlock' feature, but I just have a programmed hot key to turn the touch screen on/off that I'll argue is easier for me to use than the swiping would be (it looks clunky and I've seen others needing to swipe twice for it to unlock).
    My bigger picture observation which you and others notice is not much new. But what exactly do we want (other than cellular connectivity)? I'd propose these companies waiting every two years instead of one to release new hardware. I know that's a losing battle but at some point it's too much and they're making new stuff just because it's the industry norm to do so and consumers expect the new and shiny object.

    Hi guys,
    I bought a Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar Edition and then the Fenix 7X Pro was released. I was a bit annoyed because they improved the optical reader and it is very important. With the new Fenix 8 I have been disappointed because there is no improvement for my needs (the AMOLED screen is not important to me, neither are the diving options, I would not use the microphone and speaker, etc.)

The down side to the new Fenix is it seems like they just were not finished yet and wanted to throw it out and they had 2 1-2 years to get this thing ready
