Thanks for the review. I had a plan to buy Fenix 8 until I found this. Looks like it has all I need for a lower price, plus bigger battery, which is almost no-brainer. There are two things that concern me though:
    1. Enduro 3 hasn’t got “leak-proof buttons” of the Fenix. What does that mean for an average non-swimmer? That I cannot dive with it below a certain depth, or that I cannot use it in a pool? I assume that I can still use it in rain, because that would be immediate show stopper for most people.
    2. I need to record short reminders from time to time. Fenix 8 has got a note recording feature, which is obviously missing on Enduro 3, because it hasn’t got a microphone. But what about the bluetooth headeset? You can connect one to listen to music, so it would be great if it could record short audio notes using the headset’s microphone, but I couldn’t find any info on that anywhere. Can it? If not, is there any other way to save a short note on the watch without having a phone nearby (type a text on the screen for example)?

  • @aexetanius

Weight and cost savings are achieved through its plastic rear cover, which replaces the titanium of previous models. Additionally, the front bezel is narrower compared to the same sized (51mm) Fenix 8 Solar, allowing for the larger solar ring while further reducing both weight and cost.

I'm a good boy and always watch your videos all the way through. One thing I'd really love is for you to go through how I can use my Fenix to navigate when cycling walking. What I'd like to be able to do is enter a postcode (I'm in the UK) of my destination and just have it navigate. I'm aware there are ways to save a destination natively on the phone and by connecting to a computer, but surely, with all the nav tech in the Fenix, there's a way to use it simply as a tiny satnav, so I don't need to buy a separate cycle nav. Many thanks.

the problem I found with solar charging devices is results are always going to be variable, and even on a bright sunny day, the device itself is very rarely actually facing the sun... is it clear or cloudy? is it pouring rain so you're wearing a rain jacket? is the watch face directly facing the Sun(on your left wrist it's going to be shaded if you're traveling north in the morning, etc)? is the trail entirely shaded through the forest (cloudy day simulator)? I would guess that 300 hours is the best case scenario(Sahara desert) to make the numbers sound good, and not the worst case scenario (Northern latitudes on the winter solstice)

  • @ShawnIsBatman
    @ShawnIsBatman 5 месяцев назад +1

Thanks for your continued fabulous coverage of these new devices. It is no surprise that you are the first channel I turn to and the one that I trust the most.
I went through some mental struggles last year as to which Garmin watch to buy, my biggest issue was that I am primarily a cyclist, so my Garmin cycling computer is the device need that I have, a watch was more of a 'nice to have' item for walking, rucking, general health tracking, etc. Of course I wanted some functionality, but did not want to spend a fortune. I settled on the Forerunner 265, which has done everything I wanted (with the AMOLED display), absolutely no complaints. Note, I am not even coming close to using all of the functionality of the 365 device at this time.
Being a tech geek, the new shiny things are always attractive. Watching your detailed review on the Fenix 8, it seemed very cool, however, maybe not a ton of new functionality. The big detractor was the price. In no way was a device at over $1k justifiable.
This new Enduro 3 seems much more promising. Of course I would be giving-up the AMOLED display, I am unsure how much I would miss that, but it is nice and I would be picking-up the solar functionality and the insane battery life. As for new/enhanced features that would directly impact me, I am not sure that they are there given that at about $800 this is still significantly more expensive than what my 365 cost me.
I am wondering that while the new Fenix and Enduro watching seem to be great, will Garmin be a victim of their own previous success and see disappointing sales numbers for these new devices because the old devices are still really good? I have the same dilemma with the Edge 1030+ that I run on my road bike, it does absolutely everything I need it to do. While the new Edge 1050 is really cool, measuring the price vs. the "need" for any new features, it is a tough sell.

Im not an ultra runner and I bought my Fenix 6x Pro primarily for hiking and backwoods navigation. The new Fenix watches are nice, but this has all the features I want in an "outdoor" watch. To me, the increased battery life is a nice bonus.
Definitely putting this on the consideration list if my Fenix 6 starts to go.
Also, I am looking forward to the new Instinct line if they are able to get this much battery life in a color display.
Edit: can you set up a data page that shows both the map and some other data, like current time/elevation and that sort of thing? The Fenix 7 pro models can do that if my memory of your reviews holds up. It would be nice to just have one or two data pages for hiking.

I am not a pro, but I don't understand a lot of garmin products. I honestly would consider to buy one, if there weren't 800 models that are almost identical. The swim, is a downsized forerunner, not exactly cheap (250) same thing for the s70: specially made for golf, except that the flagship forerunner is better than it ev3n in golf...
This enduro is kind of the fenix /epix with more battery? But with less functions. Who need a 30 days long lasting sportwatch? Dont you come back home? Or at least you can bring with you a pocket battery pack. I am always overwhelmed by all the different models in the lineup... and then everyone buy the fenix or the epix.
Who buy the tactix? Or the golf? Or the aquatix? One has the sp2, the other one the sleep coach, the other one has 43000 golf court but lacks of a thing... Make a 3 or 4 models line up and stop. (Ok maybe ten, 6 pro + 4 "amateur").
For garmin has 0 costs put a couple of options in existing models. And considering they are all +500$ (more likely 1000 or 1200) sportwatches it s nonsense that I should buy 2 or 3 models for different sports.
Sorry. Maybe someone can tell me the garmin philosphy.

Thank you for great review. I really prefer the AMOLED screen on my Epix Gen 2 to the less visible more efficient design. Has it been mentioned there are no prompts (beep/vibration) about turns during navigation? You need to constantly observe the map screen, and if you switch to another data screen, you will completely lose the navigation feature. Only a small, silent red triangle with a slight delay changes position by 180 degrees to indicate that you need to turn around.

Your comment at 4:56 about the solar claim is incorrect. For the GPS ONLY battery life, the solar duration is calculated assuming constant 50,000 lux conditions the entire time (not 3 hours per day).

I really REALLY wish the Instinct 2X didnt place the label printing right above the solar ring, both Enduros do it right
Its like they forgot that shading any part of a solar cell limits the rest of the cell to only take in what that shaded part can take in, but only for the Instinct
So if the cell can normally collect 100w/m² but the shaded area can only take in 5w/m², well then the whole cell is limited to that 5w/m² Just glad they have the clear solar layer as a backup that seems to maybe be on top of the label printing

I really am interested to know the battery life when navigating a very long distance course with the map screen on just about all the time for the enduro 3 vs fenix amoled 47mm? I think DCr mentioned it was was only 20 hours for the fenix 8 because the map screen drains better more than other screens. Do you have any data on this issue as i participate in loads of ultramarathons and multiday adventures which require constant following gpx routes.
