Wow, not used traditional jesses since the mid 80s . Would never go back to using them either as they twist up so much more than having separate anklets and jesses. Brought back some old memories of untangling them. Great video though👍.

Very nice and clear as you say the traditional jess is a useful thing to know how to make and is part of the history and tradition of falconry and you resisted saying " heres one I prepared earlier"😃 Do you have a handy way of doing false Aylmeri ?

It’s the opinion of many falconers that traditional jesses should be retired for good. It is not worth risking the life of a raptor just to keep it restrained. There is always a chance that a bird could escape while wearing the jesses and get hung up and die. If it is such a worry that an anklet could break in the field, it would probably be easier to carry removable anklets while hunting. To each their own though, at the end of the day it is your bird not mine

How do you get a hawk or a bird of prepay if you want to be a falconer

Sorry that’s not something I’m willing to reveal, I have the opinion that if you don’t know how to get a hawk then you don’t have enough Knowledge to properly look after one

If you are in the US then it is a long legal process. Start by doing research, you will need to buy lots of books on falconry. It takes lots of time and work, if you are not willing to dedicate most of your free time to a bird then do not consider falconry
