it’s been said Hasbro’s ONLY profitable IP is WotC. Ouch.
Which is insane considering all they do is sell plastic and paper in interesting shapes. All we want are fun and interesting amusment and they cant even do that despite all of the artists just dumping cool shit in thier lap constantly.
The marketing people got up thier own ass under protection from HR and the executive leadership ultimatley does not care because its easier to take your money and go be rich instead of fight dificult and controversial battles

I wish only 4 new Magic sets would drop a year. That's it. If so, I'd play standard again and probably end up buying a lot more packs but can't even keep up anymore.
Yes! New and original sets. Damn I miss block sets. Maybe do one main block set per year together with minor sets.

I feel as though both Hasbro and Wizards are to blame for the decline of both IP's. Wizard's for pumping political nonsense into their games and Hasbro for prioritizing quantity over quality. Making shitty products and trash talking your consumer base is a prime way to ruin a business.
Or maybe they figured out that furries, my little pony and diversity aren't profitable.

I am happy to see WOTC fail. They have produced nothing but garbage for D&D for years now. Larian showed them how to elevate D&D to the next level but WOTC are too worried about woke politics to get the hint. The next line up of D&D video games already looks like boring trash. I am so glad Larian left them. BG3 was amazing but not for anything WOTC did. They only restricted Larian and probably charged an astronomical amount for the licensing.
Maybe if they stop making silly sets about cowboys and New York and weddings and Lord of the Rings.

That's the reason for sure.
I know they oversaturated me. I got back into MtG around 2014 I think, whenever Khans came out, and then in 2022 when they were pumping out so much product and they made Alchemy, I just said I was sick of keeping up and sick of the value proposition of the game being so low. It's a great game. I'd have even paid $10 a month to play Standard with access to all the cards in Standard. I had no interest digitally collecting. And while I still follow what's going on somewhat, they lost a captured audience. But I imagine they could have lost 10 consumers like me in the market and easily found 1 consumer they made 20 times what I would spend on their products at the prices I was willing. From a business perspective it probably still makes sense.
they def flood the market with cards and not even good ones either the only cards people are hype for are reprints anyway, i agree on just proxying, buying sealed product isnt worth it anymore, dont even get me started on the universe beyond sets.....
Culture messages weren't beneficial now they're trying to capitalize on nostalgia trying to get the old players back into the game.

TakeTwo interactive bought the company that they "interacted" with to create the Borderlands franchise.
This cultural destruction has been going on for far longer than we have been noticing it.

@TheCirclekeeper WOTC forced larian to add woke and gay characters to BG3 that's why they are making anymore DnD games. Look at how all the girls are powerful and the guys are femboys in BG3.
It's just the cost of inflation and our hourly pay isn't going up to match inflation we just don't have the money anymore to buy unnecessary things unnecessary things

Rip wizards
These upper positions are short term jobs. Spend a few years here and there and each time you make more and more money. Get in. Get a few positive moves in place and get out before anything goes wrong. Right the ship and move on. Or tank a company and move on. Often to another company that made out well from the others misfortune. Most CEOs don't care what the company does or sells. They are trained to be CEOs. They solve an issue and move on.
I love reading and WotC basically axed their novels entirely a decade ago.
People love things and then they get milked. They become adults and keep getting milked and then they're surprised?

MTG comes out with too many sets now adays and with the way the economy is most people cant keep up with it. The last couple of sets i bought i couldnt even come up with an idea for a deck so i just voxed up the cards.

Magic is doing so badly that it keeps Hasbro alive quarter after quarter! Karlov Manor was a total bust, but Outlaws of Thunder Junction is doing fantastically well. I doubt anything will change with Cynthia gone. Hasbro will still demand more and more🤷♂️
Been playing since early 1995. Playing AD&D/D&D since 1979. So saw how MtG almost killed D&D and how Peter saved it and now how it’s just identity politics. Drow, Mind Flayers, Orc… are evil…
Stopped buying DnD products when they went woke.
When it comes to DND, there are still stuff from the book's they still haven't added to the beyond app, despite the book's having been out for year's. They said they would, but apparently still haven't done it
Swen Vincke (ceo of Larian), said they didn't want to get stuck in just make D&D games. Idk why people read into that there is bad blood with wotc and Larian over that.
To be honest; the collabs with warhammer 40k was FIRE; I also liked the LOTR crossover; but they moved on too fast; they should have really delved into each universe and ride out the lifespan
Boogie I think the lack of sales and specifically toys and other memorabilia… Is the sign of the times the cost of living is out of control. People can’t do the things they used to do.

Trading cards make an absolute fortune if they are successful. It's why everyone tried jumping on the bandwagon before.

Actually I think changes in leadership might help I know hasbro are fucking everything royally but i think at this time new leadership could be positive
Yeah, it used to my favorite TCG but I became quickly disillusioned with all the cash grabs. They release a new product on an almost bi-weekly basis now. It’s insane. Then they separated the packs into different tiers and paywalled all the cooler variants into the most expensive products. I left it for Flesh and Blood which is a much better TCG to play and collect IMO.
Maybe if Hasbro with Disney decided to make you know Old Republic Star Wars toys I would buy them because that is my favorite era of Star Wars from Knights of the Old Republic 1 to Star Wars the Old Republic

When did everybody forget about the pro tour collector sets WOTC made years and years ago. Like yall have amnesia they didnt print proxy's then and they didnt know its a collector item and they dont wanna effect the game heavily with these reprints. Worked at an LGS and everyone thinks its ok to proxy on tournaments and events now because of the anniversary set ITS NOT A PROXY SET IT NEVER WAS
I stopped playing magic in 2001 ish.. So my cards are all from that era.. My kids just got into it so we are now relearning the game.. What the actual F happened? Buying these new sets is wild and almost not fun. I agree keeping up is more work than fun.. Maybe that will change but for now.. this all seems like a money grab.

there are good proxies out there. I proxy every card and not just dual lands, mana crypts etc.

i quit magic when they put their cool, original, in-house planeswalker and multiverse lore they had created over the years on the backburner and decided to focus on franchise crossovers instead. DnD magic, Lotr magic, Warhammer magic, Fallout magic. Cause it's so great having Aragorn and Dogmeat face off a Tyranid, isnt it? Ugh.

I quit about 2 years and actually i dont care about the game anymore with this garbage marketing strategy of reprint every singles good old card 2 times per year... fucking Secret Lair and thats stupid shit.
