My Origin Story: Where I Grew Up In Small Town Southwest Virginia....

- In this video we take a look at my home town of St. Paul Virginia. Its a small town set in southwestern virginia, coal mining area. I show you some of the small houses we lived in, the urban decay, and the school and pool I spent my teen years in. I traveled with McJuggernuggets and had the plan of visiting the old house that my mom left me when she passed in Pound. Let's take a look.

Jessy's reactions exemplify why we have a schism in our society these days. People who grew up in upper middle class suburbia and big cities just don't understand what it's like for poorer people living in small towns and they think that everyone in the US is as privileged as they are. We are not. There are some people in the US living in 3rd world conditions, can't find a job, their local schools are run down and the teachers suck or are overwhelmed with students with social problems. The place where I grew up was a bigger town but I grew up poor and there was a lot of social problems, high teen pregnancy, drugs, gangs, domestic violence situations etc. People seem to think this is an inner city problem but it's not. It's a poor problem. I'm sick of being told I'm privileged by people more privileged than me.
I feel exactly the same way. I'm from a small, rural town, and probably had it harder as a child than many people from the poor parts of the city.
I grew up outside Wroclaw in a rural town, i dont remmeber the name, life was hard for us, especially since the cold war ended only 17 yrs before
Jessie doesn't really know the kind of life he has lived in all honesty he's never seen the down and outside of life and many don't but its hard hitting when you see how some people have to live
Seriously. I think the exposure helped him though. Certainly a lot of perspective to take in.
He's fucking entitled and is full of himself. He doesn't get what people had to go through, like me.
@@HeyItsZee_ You think boogie calls his dear friend "fucking entitled" because his childhood was different? That it's the child's fault what they had to go through? And not to belittle your experiences, but I can absolutely assure you there are people out there who had it even worse than you, so in comparison should you be called "fucking entitled" too? It's not an epee contest about who got the worst start in life..

Jessie just sounds condescending the whole time
I think a lot of people don't know this kind of life exists. In these small towns, it amazes people who haven't been exposed how life in a place like this can go on.
I have to agree, however, I think if Jesse did a small series, maybe one video, just living the way that I do and Boogie did, he might get a better respect for it. Maybe I'm just being hopeful though.

fpssandwiches didn’t say he was. Just saying that day boogie needed support and that guy was barely it. Maybe that’s how their friendship works. As i said, I’m sure he’s not a bad guy. Just the vid painted a bad picture.
As a sufferer of childhood trauma, I can relate so much. No matter how much I want to, my mind cannot forget what happened. People tell me to forget it, as if I had a choice. No matter how painful, no matter how much it hurts to remember, the memories have not gone away from my brain no matter how much I want it to.
Please find better friends Boogie. Respect among friends is vital.
I think they are great friends but its a character hes playing but gosh i hate it. It seems so mean to boogie. :(
Lost a lot of respect for Jessie after this video.
TheBulstrom yea he seem like a little bitch
He was a bit annoying I can't tell if it's a bit of a persona for the camera
Edit: but obviously it was lovely of him to go with boogie / support etc
That's a hard trip to take with anybody, just as we see Boogie raw and emotional we see Jessie raw and emotional, his defense mechanisms activate due to the discomfort so he makes half-hearted jokes and asks redundant questions to compensate. At least from what I see, he's a good friend but bad at handling raw emotions.
so far, I'm not liking this Jessie guy... at all!
“Learn science, ya’ bus driver!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lol I Was like wtf ily xD my gym teacher STILL has a bus in front of his house tho... And I don't even know if he's still around anymore >
i feel like Boogie is truly himself back at home, he seems so outgoing and happy, not shy at all. i liked that.
I often come back to this video, to remember Boogie and the way he used to be.
It’s so crazy seeing him come back here. My friend, 58:51, got to see him and be in the video and I got so jealous😂 love you boogie, hopefully I get to see you next time your around
I grew up in Norton. I live in Abingdon now. It’s such a “step up” 😂 I totally understand how you feel, Boogie.
My dad and I just came across this video and we actually live in Castlewood! It’s so cool to see this and to see that you have moved on and succeed especially coming from such a small place. Would love to get the chance to meet you next time you come in! Mad respect for you!
Ma and Pa's looks like it'll have the best food you can get at their prices!!!
Im glad jesse was nice enough to be their for you in this time.. It was also good for him to see life in a different perspective. To know that not everyone had a luxurious life *not saying his life was perfect* but definitely had more help throughout his childhood. He may have aggravated boogie with some of his comments but he was their for him and gave him good responses to keep the topic going. This is a great video because its 2 people who grew up with completely different luxuries. Good for the soul. Hopefully it helps alot of us realize how good we had it. Much love to you boogie❤ been a fan for 6 years and its crazy seeing how good you look now. The glow up you did is seriously inspiring❤
Every time someone gets introduced to Superman ice cream an angel gets its wings.
And the Santa train still runs
This is where I live now. I go to Castlewood high school, and yes everything stays the same for years here lol. But things are starting to change as the town is trying to bring in tourists, you should really check out the new mural on the side of the bridge inbetween the post office and the hardware store.
Boogie thanks for sharing this.. I'm a Pediatric Flight Paramedic. I see child abuse daily at work .. I'm glad you made this to show children that there's life after abuse.. Sadly Child Abuse happens way to often .. But you are a Living example that even if you have been abused that you can still come out on top.. Thanks again for uploading this.. I pray that it helps abused children see the light at the end of the tunnel .. Stay safe
I bet the area makes boogie go full "deliverance" and he starts tormenting jessie.
In 1989 Jesse Jackson had a major rally in St. Paul VA. We drove down from Norton VA. This was during the Pittston Strike. This video brings back some powerful memories.
I was at that rally Glenn!!
The only positive memory I have of St Paul. I was an Asst. Professor at Clinch Valley College at the time. Working people of SW VA are very resilient.
I really appreciated this video. I like how around 47 minutes, Boogie says how it's nice to remember now that it's over, and I can't stop thinking of how wonderful it is for him to be out of all that. He never has to be subject to that again.
It's nice to see him now victorious over his past pains, although he does seem pretty bitter over it still, which I think anyone would be.
I’ve only watched sporadic videos on this channel here & there. But I never subscribed... until today.
People may never understand life in a small town unless they grew up in one. I got away from the one I grew up in only to return to a totally different one in my adulthood to raise my 3 kids in this environment. They have learned self reliance, financial discipline, & strong core values. These skills are essential when growing up in rural America. There is a discipline in everything related to daily life that young people must learn living in an area that is short on opportunity or filled with memories both good & bad. That strong desire to escape to something more or better. Yet that pull from the past is always there & never goes away. The internet revolution was a great equalizer for rural communities in many ways yet they are still so far behind. This walk into your memories I could practically do in my own hometown. I’d smile & cry at the same time if I did.
Excellent video! And best wishes going forward.
*mind blown*
MAN what an eye opening experience and a great way for us to learn about you
You are an amazing person, Boogie 💜You’ve been through a lot, but you chose to go the opposite direction and make something out of your life...you make millions of people laugh & happy. Now you’re helping those who grew up in a similar situation see how hard yet therapeutic it is to face and conquer the past. As serious as this is supposed to be, still love the parts where you get excited and happy having a good memory! What a roller coaster.
20 minutes in, I'm loving this boogie! your friend doesnt appreciate the quait ruralness of your childhood towns! If you ever need a road trip buddy let me know!
52:44 4.5 million subscribers, who made it, jabba, i felt that well done, proud moment
I will say I don’t like Jesses comments, but he doesn’t understand what boggie truly grew up in And tbh I don’t either, but Jesse doesn’t really understand
He doesn't care he's entitled
"That's why I wanted to come back here. I wanna remember the good stuff." -->Honestly, one of the most important takeaways.
As for the 100k: I'd use it to get my folks out of Cedar Bluff, VA and make sure they're never homeless again.
Very true. Depression has a way of making you forget basically everything good that happened until you're in a place where something good did happen that kicks down the door to the good times.
Boogie's friend came across as condescending.
May be off putting for you, but there's a disconnect with RUclips where we don't know the true extent of their friendship
he was also like "LOOK AT THIS PLACE SO SHITTY" and the place really wasn't shitty at all
Mr Egusi that’s just how Jessie always is he means no actual harm
@@FatprincessNfatroles "That's just how Jesse is" is not an excuse to be an elitist, condescending dick, which he is.
Yeah my guy is showing his entitlement just a bit
