Turned the club who were miles behind their rivals (Anderlecht) not being able to win anything for over a decade, to now dominating domestically and far ahead of the rivals who're struggling. Sadly it was obvious his body couldn't handle that level of intensity, he did everything through technique like a street footballer.
This is both tragic and amazing at the same time. I'm glad he held his own and didn't lose his cool. Not easy to have such pressure mount on you when you are the face of a club, and then other people rise faster and it seems like you're late in life.
I was at the Galaxy/LAFC game this last Saturday (4/9/22) and saw him play. I had absolutely no idea who he was and thought he was the best player by far on the field (at age 35). So smart with the ball. He created something from nothing with just a few moves. Incredible and enjoyable to watch.
Got a few comments from others who watched the LA derby and made similar observations without knowing who he was, you can see his class and prestigious footballing background
I knew him in his la masía days cuz we ( Fc Hospitalet ) played against him when Messi was injured , what a day and what a 90 mins of magic ! We lost 6-0 and all 5 goals were scored by him 😂😂😂
Oh my god, I remember him playing in Bruges in Belgium (where I live), he was widely considered one of the best in the league, but I never knew he had such a promising backstory.
Played my last football match yesterday, im absolutely gutted. I find alot in vasquez, i started off strong in my youth, tore my mcl twice consecutively when i was 13-14. Moved onto academy football, got proper treatment to where i could play again. But it just wasnt the same, i played my last season ending on 7 goals and 13 assists, not a bad last dance in my opinion. I made it alot further than many people and im very grateful. I wish my teammates the best in their footballing careers, because i know a couple of them have the ability to make it far. Retiring at 19, not ideal but it was fun.
Feel u my friend..tore my ACL & MCL on the left, and literally changed my footballing life. Soon after, tore my right ACL..and already hanged my boots in my early 20s.🥲 Im sure there are times where u see some players making mistakes or seeing a pass others can't and really wished if only u have a healthy body to execute that. But that's life i guess, God gives and takes whatever he wishes.
This was great tbh. I had not heard of him, like ever. You can see the talent on these highlights and by the testimonial of his teammates, yet it comes as a reminder to all of us on how hard it is to get to the absolute top and remain there. Incredible. Great job Raymar.
I think more importantly, this video shows us that talent, dedication and talent are not always enough, that's not all it takes. You need some element of good fortune. CR7 will also tell you he was not the best in his academy, and all who were there at that time will say the same. Yet for different reasons, Vasquez and Paim didn't make the big time.
I remember him at Barça B stadium. He was great. Not better than Messi, but great. He was much better than Cesc Fàbregas, but he was injured after a few games with first team, and after 6 months out, he left Barça. When he played with the first team, he didn't play well, he made a lot of mistakes, he was not so magic than he used to be. I think he deserved more opportunities.
I heard his story and I could not control my tears rolling down, the world is unfair. I just wish him all the best for the rest of his life, in Africa we say maybe Leo took his "blessings".
It’s a motivational story I’m glad you were able to make a video ab him and there’s still plenty of footballers that still go through realities like that
Vector Vazquez stats Matches- 431 Goals- 55 Assists- 77 As you can see his Great career And more importantly he is been respected by great players like Gerrad pique and Leo Messi.
Being a 12 year old Club Brugge fan, he was my idol and i will never forget him. I knew he played with Messi once, but never about the potential he had. Great documentary!
@@thewatchtower8330 i mean when he still played for Brugge it was spoken about frequently, how unique it was to have such a player as a result of his injuries
So far this is your most inspirational video ever ! Amazing. I realize Messi himself has a very inspirational story, but didn't realize Victor has his own journey. I only recall him briefly. Those days in football and Barca was packed with talent. I miss those days.
Victor Vazquez was part of the Toronto fc team who won the league in 2017 for the first time ever. He was amazing. And when he scored in the mls cup final he did Messi’s famous shirt celebration. He’s a cult hero for Toronto
You can see by just these highlights hes a world class player and even though he's not had the career he wanted there's so much respect from everyone that just shows how talented he is
He made the best out of his career and still became a great teammate and roll model despite having such a prestigious background. nothing but respect 💯
i'm belgian, when see the 1st picture and name. I thought to myself "no way, isn't this the guy who played for brugge few years ago" and then you confirm it. Even i am a fan of brugges biggest historical rival, i can honestly say i enjoyed to see him play in our league a very technical player with a lot of vista (vision), not fast, not really a dribbler but a pure distributing playmaker who was a joy to watch from time to time. I knew he had a past in Barcalona but not to this extend
@@smetsmariano7065 thanks I would find his reply quite offensive since Belgium league is really top notch and there were many notable players other than him.. Like for example Lukaku??
First of all, Thanks a lot Raymar for this incredible story and letting the world know about a True Life Champion. These are the reasons I love sports. This is absolutely inspirational. It seems like a micro-movie. At start there is a Superhero and then losing his superpowers and fighting within. Eventually picking himself up and finally doing what he loves the most and found happiness with his family. Just wow. Hats off Victor.
I can only imagine how it must feel to see both your club and your national team win all that there is to win, and knowing that you were meant to be on the frontline as a leading figure for them, but you end up watching that happen from the sidelines
Dunno, that's more like the way a young person may think, but when you grow older you see how empty and subjective is the concept of "success". The guy is happy doing what he loves the most, that's what I call a successful life. Probably, at the time that that happened, he was frustrated but I bet now he just laugh remembering those times.
@@kakalammaka7074 you're just assuming. Look at megadeth founder, Dave mustaine...he was supposed to be rocking out as a guitarist for Metallica but they kicked him out. He started his own band and sold maybe half the records Metallica did. He's rich and famous now, but he considers himself a failure for not outselling Metallica. Just cuz he has money dosnt mean he's happy for his success or what we think is success to him.
It's increasingly incredible for me to know that such a person exists in football. For me, he is the best cause he was able to rise above his frustrations. To imagine one regarded as the best being left behind for the bigger league and group by those who honoured him is infact, disheartening. Bigger known clubs would have chosen him and who knows, he would have been a terror to barcelona from another team. I'm pretty sure leo Messi would still pay homage in his insane humility and humane spirit as perhaps why Victor named his kid Leo.
Wow, this is interesting. I actually have Victor Vazquez's name on my Toronto FC jersey. He was a huge boon to our team, but I didn't know he was considered more promising than Messi at one point.
When you or maybe your son face a situation where someone is seen as more talented, remember: Even Lionel Messi had to overcome a guy who was seen by SPECIALISTS as more talented than him. So dont let nobody, not even yourself, tell you that your talents can't be more important to the game you play than his'. Train your ass and heart out, keep the focus on the gold and you will find a way and once youve found it, your spot at the top will be there, waiting for you.
@@Joshflemin there will always be someone more talented than Messi. Or anybody in general. Some people just don't get the chance to become professional
Same with ronaldo im actually surprised neither were seen as the star of their youth clubs ,i guess it was a blessing from god to have someone above you to keep you down to earth
@@Joshflemin in south american countries you can literally go to ANY neighborhood and there will be a guy as talented (skill wise) as Messi. What differs Messi from most is his brains. Intelligence, emotional intelligence and a kind of a hyperfocus.
I saw him play in Toronto a few years back with giovinco and they both played so well together as well as noticed this guy got a TOTS card and was like “who is this mans?” Welp now we know thanks to Raymar
I think Victor has achieved more external respect than any football players in Spain if not the world. Success doesn't just come from fame and fortune. It's a combination of everything in your life like attitudes, manners, dedication and respect to your profession and even raking care of your health and family. Victor has done it all.
As Club Brugge fan who saw him play for us, he was absolutely brilliant but he was a man made out of glass. Without injuries he could have played for any team in the world. The vision, control and speed of execution he had, put him in a class of his own. He always stayed humble and he was loved very much. He's one of the best midfielders i've seen pass at club brugge and the belgian league in the last 20 years that i've been a fan, keep in mind Kevin De Bruyne also played in the belgian league.
A very touching short video. Unfortunetly knee related injuries can truly be difficult to fully recover from. Yet it seems no matter where he plays. Once he steps onto the pitch his leadership and play making. Both are allowing him to play the game he loves. 💪🏻🙏🏻✨
This is very heartwarming, we hear of the most talented footballers not even reaching the top flight due to various things, some beyond their control. I'm touched by his passion, endurance, and perseverance. Victor has my respect and I'm glad he still made the most of his career despite the hardship.
Wow, I've never heard of him! Definitely appreciate the video Raymar. Vazquez deserves more attention for sure. Being considered more talented than Messi at ANY point in the career is something almost no one can say about themselves. Sadly Vazquez didn't make it to the very top, but hats off to him for not giving up and sticking to the game to make the best out of it!
He used to play for my favorite team which is Cruz Azul and he was honestly a great player technically. I never knew that he was once considered a better player than messi which is mind-blowing.
I still remember Victor! I just never knew he was so revered as a youth product nor that he was touted to be so great. I only remember watching him play a few times here and there and my friends who were Barça fans talked about him like Messi wasn’t even a thing. This video put it all into perspective!
They all talk about him,but all the coachs and manager already saw that messi boy is outstanding. This is what i read from the La Masia coach. He probably good but not coach choice.Regardless he had his moment.
Great job, Raymar. In Italy, Sebastian Giovinco was a great player with superb talent and drive just like Victor Vazquez. Injuries haunted him as well but he still excelled on the pitch wherever he played (we had him in Parma and he was very special). Great coincidence: he played for Toronto with Vazquez during the 2017 season and was born in 1987. Both men have heart to spare...
There were many pressures to keep up with his youth . A struggle that could have devasted players and drive them to sad endings. But Victor Vazquez shown a love that many of lesser talent and ability would absolutely agree on. Its the love of the game. He played for himself and for his team . Sounds like victor enjoyed the game he loves. Thank you Raymar for sharing this gem.
This is a really sad story. But it's great to see everything still turned out all right for him. Hope he does great during the remainder of his football career
As a Club Bruges fan, I've seen him play live and although he was probably far away from the level he could have been, he will always be one of the best players that the belgian football fields have seen. He showed us fans some real magic. No wonder he was called "the magician of Bruges". Phenomenal player!!!
Thank God for people like Vazquez. It is people like him that make the world a better place. Giving their all no matter the short comings and hardships. Great Video 👍👍
"No matter your situation in Life, make the most of out of it. Stay kind & humble. Enjoy the good times, as they might not be there forever" Great message!
The disappointment could have led him to self destruction. But Victor was mentally strong. May God bring him back as Barcelona coach in the future 🤲❤️🇪🇸
Really good vid! I never heard of him and I thought I heard some wild stories of players not living up to their potential, but I haven't heard of a player like this since Bojan. They are both still really good and serve as a great example to people that the "mental side" of futbol (confidence+mentality not futbol IQ) can be just as important as the physical.
This the best football story I have heard ever in my life... And that's to tell you that no matter what life brings at you, remain HUMBLE AND WORK HARD
Damn, as a rival fan , I have bad memories of Vasquez's time at Club Brugge. He was a menace. I remember wondering why my team wasn't able to snatch a player of his calibre. Hearing this backstory that I didn't know, I even wonder how Club Brugge did. Interesting history.
Youre missing that Pepe put him in that game knowing he wasn't going to keep him, because he worked so hard and deserved to play at least one game for the first team. Victor was the reason why tfc went from the worst team in the world to the first Mls team to win 3 trophies in a year and only because of concacaf rule and tournament structure changes would have been continental champions and appear at the club world cup. He was literally a pk shot out away from that on a team that a few years earlier was the biggest laughing stock. His greatness was witnessed and he sound be an example to all what you can achieve when you don't give up.
Thank you Raymar for being humanitarian in your approach instead of facilitating a narrative for cracking smart jokes at his expense. Deserves everyone's respect for fighting through everything
this just makes me respect legend of the game like messi, ronaldo, xavi, iniesta, benzema, suarez, etc that have risen above all WHILE maintaining themselves, not falling to injuries, mental problems, etc and maintain a top level for SO MANY years. ESPECIALLY messi and ronaldo. nice video Raymar! It was sad but also inspirational to hear the story of Victor, my hair raised imagining what barca could have achieved more if him and messi were up front for barca (even crazier to think that they DID dominate football for a few years, and were the most magical team I have seen play)
I completely forgot about him. He was considered our best player back in Bruges and we were proud to have a La Masia product in our team. His last year he was kinda seen as a bad apple though because he was clearly tired of Bruges and didn't seem to put in the efford he did in the previous years. I know his carreer wasn't what he envisioned back when he was young but I hope it was a fulfilling one nonetheless.
The fact that he had so much shit to go through and still ended up in a club like Brugge, just shows how insane he could've been, he's someone to look up to
Wow, quite heart breaking to be the guy that was named better and a bigger talent than Messi and than not making it because of the injuries. Unfortunately we hear stories similar to that fairly often in football. Some players make it back to the elite level of football, some unfortunately don't. I wish all the best to this guy. Victor Vasquez.
It appears dude was super talented. See the moves he’s got. That pass split the defense. See that free kick! See that curl. Damn, dude is good. Oh! Life’s just unfair 😔
If i remember correctly i played against him in Dallas Cup of 98 or 99 he was an awesome play maker. We lost 4-1 but it was a great overall experience. I was playing for FC Monterrey 87 as left midfield, in that tournament Wayne Rooney was also playing but in the 85 category
Such a touching story, he still gave his best though he didn't get to the height he desired and I can understand it's his destiny. Messi and the rest got to where they are because they were destined to be. in all he is a great player.
I did not know this player was that good. Nice to see the history of this player and indeed of what he became. This is not only about football but this story has a lesson in it that counts for everyone. Thanks for these reactions about football history. They are outstanding.
Awesome work mate. It would be awesome if you could make videos about great footballers who somehow never received the recognition they deserved simply because they played in an era when social media was not around or played much before our time. Players like Hristo Stoichkov, Gheorghe Hagi, Gabriel Batistuta, Eusebio etc.
It's quite suprising that Messi wanted to compare to someone as Victor Vázquez. A natural leader, good at both feet, usually loves to score, an attacking player. It reminds me of Ronaldo, doesn't it? He is exactly like that. Ronaldo would usually get described as that. No wonder, why Messi loves to compete against him. He is getting that nostalgia from the past.
I don't know, I've never known Messi, based on what I've seen of his character and personality to be about personal achievement above all else, sure he's gotta be competitive, but Messi was always going to be Messi. CR7 though I could believe. He's a narcissist through and through.
Wow.... being a non Barca fans, I never knew about him. For real, even the tiniest bad luck in one day, could drive a river of life. But he is still amazing, his dedication never fade even when his name did.
He's a cult legend for Toronto FC. Please add how he was adored here too, and that we won 4 trophies in a season with him and were one final away from the North American Champions League.
Have to say- he showed excellent technique and class in Belgium. This is a success story imo- injuries are part of the game- and even though he's not at the level of his teammates- he's still playing and loving the game. Good on him-
amazing story ,the main thing which I've just seen below is that he didn't stop playing. As we've heard of many great young players that stop playing after an injury or being told no by one football club, an injury or a no does not define us what defines us is our actions after the negative. I wish this guy the most happiness and health for him and he's family.
Never knew this, thank you for sharing. I like the guy even more when I hear he's a nice person as well. That 7:50 was top class "outside of the foot" goal, excellent.
We can all learn a thing or two from this strong man. Life and its drama happens regardless of your dreams. But he's kept pushing on which is one of the hardest things to do in life when you're down
Yoo i love your vids man raymar. I got into football pretty late (around about after the 2018 world cup) so I really really appreciate these quality videos and look forward to vids where you talk about the older generation as I don't have a clue about that era. This is both tragic and amazing at the same time. I'm glad he held his own and didn't lose his cool. Not easy to have such pressure mount on you when you are the face of a club, and then other people rise faster and it seems like you're late in life.
This guy still scored wonder goals after all the forces that were against him. His drive was awesome.👏
those were some pretty insane goals for sure 🔥
I was at the Galaxy/LAFC game this last Saturday (4/9/22) and saw him play. I had absolutely no idea who he was and thought he was the best player by far on the field (at age 35). So smart with the ball. He created something from nothing with just a few moves. Incredible and enjoyable to watch.
Got a few comments from others who watched the LA derby and made similar observations without knowing who he was, you can see his class and prestigious footballing background

Soon after, tore my right ACL..and already hanged my boots in my early 20s.🥲
Im sure there are times where u see some players making mistakes or seeing a pass others can't and really wished if only u have a healthy body to execute that. But that's life i guess, God gives and takes whatever he wishes.
You could have been one of the goats wealth fame but all gone!

This was great tbh. I had not heard of him, like ever. You can see the talent on these highlights and by the testimonial of his teammates, yet it comes as a reminder to all of us on how hard it is to get to the absolute top and remain there. Incredible. Great job Raymar.
Yup the flashes of greatness is definitely there! Sad he couldn’t live up to the potential but damn did he never give up or let up!
I think more importantly, this video shows us that talent, dedication and talent are not always enough, that's not all it takes. You need some element of good fortune.
CR7 will also tell you he was not the best in his academy, and all who were there at that time will say the same. Yet for different reasons, Vasquez and Paim didn't make the big time.
im a penaldo fan but i agree 👍🏿
I remember him at Barça B stadium. He was great. Not better than Messi, but great. He was much better than Cesc Fàbregas, but he was injured after a few games with first team, and after 6 months out, he left Barça. When he played with the first team, he didn't play well, he made a lot of mistakes, he was not so magic than he used to be. I think he deserved more opportunities.
I knew of him in the MLS but did not know he had this history. Really cool

It's increasingly incredible for me to know that such a person exists in football. For me, he is the best cause he was able to rise above his frustrations.

@@Joshflemin in south american countries you can literally go to ANY neighborhood and there will be a guy as talented (skill wise) as Messi.
What differs Messi from most is his brains. Intelligence, emotional intelligence and a kind of a hyperfocus.

Yes, I remember Juve were hoping he could turn out to be for them what Messi was for Barca.
