This man showed something incredible that is alien to most sports fans.
Study and Theory > Natural talent and practice
A path that is rarely tried and rarely executed in such an amazing manner
As mentioned, he is neither the fastest nor the strongest nor the most naturally gifted player, but he uses his mega mind to optimize every scenario he finds himself in. He doesn't intuitively dribble but instead has an entire systematized and theory driven dribbling style. This man is literally computing on the pitch and thinking about his moves before he makes them.

Nakata is such an overrated player who was way overhyped by the Japanese media. He wasn’t regular in any of the sides he played for, he turned the ball over way too often, he couldn’t really score, and had absolutely atrocious international records. The only reason his name still gets mentioned here and there is because of him being the first Japanese player who was brought into Europe to sell jerseys and the Japanese media milking every last drop of his false hype. That and kids playing him in FIFA and thinking FIFA is a good indicator of greatness.
      1. Park, Son
      2. Kagawa, Honda, Hasebe
      3. Nakamura
      Nakata who?

    • @CilantroJason7855

@@p1890sd not sure what you wanna say. He was the first Japanese player to play overseas and that's enough of a reason for Japanese medias to hype for.
Also if you know anything about Japanese manga/anime, Nakata's story was just like real life Captain Tsubasa for many Japanese people. Without Nakata's influence, Japanese football would never be as big as what it is now. HIS STORY INSPIRED A GENERATION OF JAPANESE FOOTBALLERS.
Also, why you including son/park in this conversation? So weird.

TSUBASA OZORA. Early 2000s, me coming back from school and watching this in post war Croatia. Weather was hot, clouds were bluer than blue. Nostalgia hits like a train this time. This message is only for me. Like a message in a bottle. Time is the key. Concept of time is a key of finding meaning.

He reminds me when I was young, imagining how I would get out of some situations. A lot of us did that when we were younger. We would perform some dribbles alone while imagining how our opponent would react to a feint and then comes the trick lol. While growing up, we usually stop that. I myself had quite few successful dribbles. Mitoma took it seriously and now he's destroying some defense. He makes me want to go back in the past and do it properly. If I was 12 years old, I would read his thesis and practice. I think japanese kids will take his thesis seriously, specially the strikers and midfielders. I'll keep that in my mind, in 10 years we might see some smooth skillers from Japan thanks to Mitoma.

Mitoma played here in our Belgian league last season and just from the summary of his first match I knew he was something special. He literally did everything right. I didn't understand why he was still under-used at Union and in the first half the of season for Brighton, but Brighton's manager finally seems to see it and reaping the fruits.

one reason might be his character. he has much power than what people think , almost 180cm and 73kg, but he is too reserved. To be top players, they need to appeal their agresiveness and self confidence.

That is a good point; there is a huge roadblock for youngsters hoping to break into the first teams of any big league clubs. Makes a lot of sense for Mitoma to earn a degree instead of getting potentially loaned out incessantly, and it worked out nicely.

Going to university before joining a pro team is far from "unusual". There are four other Japanese players in the UK alone who went to uni before entering the pro ranks, and some of Japan's most famous historical stars went to university (everyone from Gon Nakayama to Yuto Nagatomo). The university leagues in Japan are quite competitive and several schools are in the fourth and fifth tier of Japan's pyramid. In fact, a lot of teams go out of their way to scout and sign university grads. Kashima Antlers, among others, has a long history of signing guys out of university and turning them into star players.

Sadly Japan's market ain't get a look for bigger European club. But hopefully after several Japanese players doing great this season like Daichi, Take, Tomi and Kyogo + phenomenal world cup runs it could be different for Japanese football. And I can't get more excited when my club Barcelona seriously consider Daichi as their target for summer.
