Great video dude💚He has 17 goals + assists in 23 games. It's a good stat; but when we're talking about Messi, we expect him to have about 23 goals + assists in 23 games. But we should consider one thing: He has hit the ball to the crossbar 9 times! So to be honest, I think he's been great at PSG and the main problem is that he's been unlucky! Not only because of that, but also because his teammates lost about 6 times the great chances he had created and if they had not missed them, he would now have about 6 more assists!
Messi has always said he prefers titles over goals or personal achievements. When he scored 72 goals in a season Barça only won the Copa del Rey, Club world cup and Spanish & European supercups but he said he'd prefer to have 5 goals and win the league and champions league. After all those goals records he's broken, I don't expect him to try to compete with his teammate Mbappe who's less than ten years younger than him for most goals; better to try to help Mbappe score more so the entire team can win titles. Messi really shows how players should age and mature. He is willing to take any role that is needed by the club and I can see him embracing the role of set-up man and playmaker. I actually did not see him as having an off season in PSG. I saw him as happy to let Mbappe and Neymar have the glory while he would make plays and make them look better.

Doing that with a sluggish start after 2 different niggling injuries + Covid is actually special.
This was my thought process exactly when I saw/heard all the complaints. Mbappe is much younger and is a rising star, and Messi is now the "wiser", more experienced player that can lead. SO it makes sense for him to back off in being the star and just being one of the major cogs in the PSG system.
Let's not forget that he's going to his last World Cup this year, he just won Copa América with Argentina and PSG's coach is the Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino, they're keeping him well rested by minimizing any serious risks of injury. Messi's focus is 100% on the World Cup to finish his career with that amazing cherry on top.
Some things I agree with and others I disagree with. Addressing the first part of the video. I disagree with the extent of how much you said Messi "learned" from the other players you mentioned. Messi was an alien with god given talent and just got better and better and more refined. From his very first training session you could see that in his finishing, dribbling and passing. The Joan Gamper Trophy is widely regarded as the game where Messi first made the world stand up and take notice. He was dribbling around the greatest defenders and set up Andres Iniesta beautifully for the goal. He didnt learn how to dribble from Iniesta or how to score from Henry or Eto'o. He was already doing all of those things and just kept getting better at an exponential rate. Even Xavi said that it was incredible how Messi understood everything (in terms of decision making and and how to play) at such a young age. Also, Messi started off on the wing and when Pep had the vision to play Messi centrally and closer to goal thats when you really saw Messi's scoring go through the roof. Also there is no such thing as a system player. Barca have a philosophy not a system, there is a huge difference. Messi has played in numerous systems and under a multitude of coaches as well as different teammates. Individually, he has always remained consistently the best no matter the every changing conditions around him. Now on to his current form in the French League. First of all its not as easy as his detractors would suggest. Look at the teams the French teams have knocked out of the Champions League in the past years (CR7's Juventus and Man City come to mind). Also the first observation I made is the physicality of the French League. They play a lot more physical and are allowed to get away with it. I am not suggesting that Messi cant play in a physical environment as he has done it his entire career with Argentina. I am just saying its going to be tougher. Also Messi is once again being played on the wing instead of centrally at the age of 34-35. He is also spending more time dropping deeper than he has ever done in the past. Look at his recent heatmaps of where he is receiving the ball. You will not get the same goal output from him as at Barca. At Barca Messi was the center of everything and now he doesnt have to carry that offensive burden alone. When teams play deep to block Messi out he can rely on feeding Mbappe who is fast, lethal and dependable. But its not like Messi hasnt tried to score. He is extremely competitive. He has hit the woodwork more than any other player. Had those chances gone in, this wouldn't be a video. The great part about Messi is that he never needed to be just a goal scorer to impact a game. He is like Batman, when one tool runs out he can reach into his pocket and bring out something else. What makes him an outlier is that if he cant score he still has the vision and ability to make key passes, facilitate the offense and assist in any game.
1. Because he has a different role where he's supposed to progress the ball into the final third & create even more than before. 2. Because the little team dynamics with linkup are missing for example with wide outlets who'd create for him (Alba) so he gets less good chances to score. 3. Because his finishing has been below average for the first time in his career.
@@enganche5584 Same Logic could work for Ozil who everyone praises like crazy. Definitely helped that he had prime Ronaldo to feed balls to. Who many meme as a “tap in” merchant
i really appreciate that even a Ronaldo fan has these great words about Messi, i always was a Messi fan but it is true that we have to cherish these 2 legends of football as long as they are still playing, much love and respect for Messi and Ronaldo
Another factor is age, he just cant make dribbles out of nowhere and score like 2011, he's 34. He has to either stay foward and get goals but sacrifice the magic of dribbles and vision he has. He can move back and dictate the play. Something that doesn't happen often in a ronaldo type position. He just can't score often there. Go watch his games and you will see his vision, control, and mastery of the game. His freekick is still magnificant and thats one thing that doesnt go with age. He will score, but not every match like he used to.
u know people will say smthng like "ronaldo is 37 but still can play better than messi". they need to understand that cr7 got a really really good physical body than messi. we cant deny the fact that cr7 will do better than messi even if he is older than messi. but all of it bcs of their physical difference. damn
First of all although im a messi fan i respect both of the goats🇦🇷🇵🇹. At the age of 35 and 37 its incredible what they are doing. We are lucky that we lived to see them play and i believe that there will be no other players like them. When they retire it will be one of the biggest moments in football history. *You truly admire something when you no longer have it*.🙏🙏
Idk if we can talk about Messi wanting to preserve his body, but the system he's playing under definetly doesn't fit him: a counter-attacking team that overrelies on their forwards. That's why Messi has dropped deeper; he used to do that at Barça when the teammates just weren't able to withstand press and pass to him. This is why Pochettino also invites Messi to play that deep, so they could control the game better and use better passes for the attackers.
i feel like psg is full of stars who dont know how to work together properly. messi just needs time to adapt to psg dont forget that he played in barca for about 2 decades. and never once transfered to another coub
Messi’s playmaking ability and his vision to pass the ball is something I have never seen anyone do before 🐐, but I would love for him to score more goals this season

Hey man. I'm glad you went out of your way for this video and the effort put into the details were incredible. No matter how much hate you may get, just know that we true fans appreciate the effort.
It is not even comparations between Messi and Ronaldo. MESSI is a playmaker , Ronaldo a Striker this says all about The Greatest Player off all- times Lionel Messi
People are just so used him being the center of the team and scoring goals for fun, this new role will help him play a lot longer he is still playing very well his assist numbers say it all.
We are lucky to enjoy 2 legends play at our time… CR7 & Messi changed football for ever, they took this game to different level. Love & respect for those 2 goats
Messi has demonstrated that he doesn't prioritize goals over what's best for the team. Towards the end of the 2014-15 season, he showed it by giving Neymar the penalty he created while he was leveled with Ronaldo on goals that season. He didn't prioritize scoring more than Ronaldo. He wanted Neymar to join Suarez and himself on the score sheet to get some confidence ahead of the semi final against Bayern. And it looks like it paid off.
Just a fan of the game, I can have my opinions and favorites but I try to be as respectful and objective as possible. Anyone who thinks Messi is finished is 🤦♂️
This is so true, Messi is not selfish neither is he a ball hog. When your new somewhere you don't come with the attitude like it's all about you, and Messi is humble and a team player. Definitely the best player in my eyes.
A lot of great points, and I wholly agree. It's insane how people start criticizing Messi, at this point. I don't know how many hundred Barca games I've watched, just to be able to see this little magician make it look like he's playing an entirely different sport than everyone else on the field. May he live long, and may he keep playing as long as his love for the game lasts
As not just a cr7 fan, but as a football fan who respects every single player with good sportsmanship; I can say Leo Messi completed football. Also helped his teammates to make it in the game.
90% of people dont really pay attention to what happens in games. He was pretty much the key player for Argentina in almost every match (PARTICULARLY in our 2014 wc endeavor that took us to the finals) yet many people in Argentina wanted him out.
I disagree Mbappe has been overlooked for many years at psg and people often thought Neymar was doing all the work …what I like most about this season is the fact that more people are watching psg games (because of messi ) and kylian is finally getting the credit he deserves Weather he leaves or not every psg fan would say with the most confidence “Mbappe was and still is the best player for psg ahead of Neymar ,zlatan, messi etc” What he’s doing for them is unbelievable
People really had to wait until Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo were in their 30s past their prime to call them finished 💀. The logic some people have…. Maradona, R9, Ronaldinho, Cruyff etc had a much bigger decline than Those two, but back then we didn’t have social media right now so everyone can see that they’re declining much more closely today
Messi has less goals and assists this season but he doesn't turn into a ghost in between matches you can see him making impact in the games. He creates lots of chances that mbappe and di maria bottles
@@he_brew6623 he still signed a contract and knew the plan for CL and didn’t deliver. Even if he’s the best ever arguably it’s still a team sport with contracts, obligations, commitments
I know practically nothing about football, but this comment at 11:15, it really resonates. speaking of the 3rd goal during the WC 2022 final, it indeed appears that when he wants, he scores... if there wasn't the unfortunate handball towards the end of the extra time, the match would have ended without penalty shootout...
I always said this: Messi came to PSG to assist. He knows he has two guys there previously, with a massive Ego: Mbappe and Neymar. So, as kind guy he is, he thought he didn’t come there to take away anything from them. So he preferred to serve them as much as possible if that will mean a lot to these two. And he can also take advantage of being a playmaker with more intention which would benefit the Argentina squad. His game IQ is never to be matched. Everything he does is with a higher purpose. 75% of goals he served his teammates here could’ve easily been scored by himself. So think again. At this points he owns all records and deep inside he knows he can afford to focus on play making without ever being under risks of losing any.
He has 17 goals + assists in 23 games.
Since when did hitting the crossbar became a stay? Also the amount of assist Mbappe could have had if Messi converted his chances. I remember when people were calling Mbappe greedy but I wonder why I don’t hear that anymore! Same could be said about Ronaldo, he had chances but didn’t convert them!
I remember years ago when Messi would get an 8/10 match performance many sports critics/analysts would say he under performed. Messi and Ronaldo set an extremely high standard in their prime that People forget they’re in their 30s now lol
@@LVO0708 Hitting crossbars from free-kick or outside the box is just unlucky it isn't like he missed an open goal and hit the crossbar even if half of them went in he'd have 1 G/A per game it makes huge difference
Don’t tell me Messi wouldn’t want another ballon dor or golden boot tighter to his belt…he wants them all ,the truth is Ronaldo really fooled us all to believe that playing in different leagues and scoring 40plus goals is very easy…Messi played Barca his entire life and they basically know how to play with him..with psg there are too many egos going on and mbappe wants to be the star..if you tell me Messi doesn’t wanna score then he shouldn’t shoot at all or even try to take pens because he’s not supposed to score so he shouldn’t go no where near the goal post or even position himself in a goals scoring position…the fact is things are not working for him and it’s no secret that he wished he had stayed in Barca..same as Ronaldo who wished he had stayed in juve rn…with mbappe available,Messi won’t be scoring in the regular…he will probably get 1 in every 5/6 matches which doesn’t suit him as the player he is and the name he has made for himself…think bout it,Ronaldo is 37,yet the expectations is so much high people expect him to score 40 goals a season..he can tho is he gets more services because he can’t run much more like he used to back when he was young and even at 35 he was running like a beast ,scroring goals you wouldn’t expect from a 35 yo ,but that’s Ronaldo…he’s built different…Messi doesn’t have the physical powers of Ronaldo and am afraid he might probably retire at 36
And plus Messi isn’t used to DoorDash league, you need to give him time as well. But Ronaldo fans will trash him either way even though Ronaldo isn’t doing good either
Messi has always been his best as a playmaker. The fact he scores that many goals in the first place is ridiculous. Its like modric scoring 91 goals in a season
Not to mention most of the Ligue 1 teams play with 10 men in box and it's far more physical than Laliga yet he has maintained great G/A ratio this season and he's been good in UCL too with most goals for PSG in group stages, it's just not up to the Messi standards but it's just first half of the season he'll bounce back again
Lol so suddenly messi fans starting seeing Uber eats farmers league as a tough league. They won't say same if Cristiano would have joined PSG in past...
i agree to some extent. it is important to remember cristiano played a winger for a large portion of his career as well… (not nearly as much as leo did) but it is something to take into consideration.
They say “ put the poison in the honey 🍯 “ This is exactly what is the vedio about: - Messi lucky he has learned from xavi and inesta. - Mentioning CR7 next to Messi as they are in same level or even close!! I appreciate that you demonstrate the analysis from different triangles, and i do agree that Messi is the system for Barca and he is the System of all football clubs cuz he is the only one playing the football the way it should be, he is the system of this game no matter which club he plays for, and no one else has the capability to be a system like him even CR7 or Maradona .. No one ever has proofed yet that he could become the system of all the team and every one plays with his vision and spirit.. we saw PSG when they lost against Real Madrid, I wasn’t sad but happy to see the best game ever for PSG together they controlled everything and for a moment i thought Barca is playing not PSG( Messi is instructed them individually before the match) not front cameras as others do to keep the respect for his teammates.. Unfortunately Benzema was lucky to score two goal which cuz the lost .. God Plans that it but they don’t deserve it Messi is IOS/Android other players including CR7 are just applications in the system .. without the system the football will be forgotten
Look at Messi at Argentina. Completely different person. Completely different player. That just shows to his dedication and abilities. His role and goals are different for PSG. I've always admired Leo. Although Ronnie always remains my favourite, I have had equal admiration for Messi. Both are almost near their days. I hope all tha fans around the world realize its not right to compare them. They are the greatest of all time.
Raymar - what a great video and very well said 👏 someone who actually knows about football and what their talking about. The media and younger generation football fans look at it in such an ignorant way. Messi has been tearing it up for decades. Most players now have 1 or 2 good seasons. Messi and Ronaldo have been dominating for years, years, years and years. You’re right! We will never see anyone like Messi or Ronaldo again. Give the respect Messi deserves. He doesn’t have/need to score. He’s done it for 15 years. His main assignment at PSG is to help score goals, link up play, passing and assists. I don’t think Messi is bothered about scoring goals. I think he wants to help his team mates, such as Neymar and M’bappe to score. I don’t think M’bappe will be anywhere near as good as Messi or Ronaldo… PSG have Neymar, M’bappe and Di Maria who are expected to be scoring. Messi is like Iniesta now. He’s not a goal scorer. He’s a playmaker now
Messi is really a goat... But I think the main problem is that the PSG doesn't play as a team... I still can believe lewandowski is older than Messi but still deliver because they play as a team
I am a Messi fan. I have followed him since he started and I train my own team in a similar fashion to Barca's program. He is the greatest of all time. All of what you said is true about his play, how he learned etc. However, the notion that this man doesn't score goals because he doesn't want to is the most rediculous thing I've heard in a while. Messi without a doubt wants to score goals. He has had a lifetime of doing so. You can see the frustration in his face every game he plays. His problem is that he has slowed down to the point where he cannot create the space for himself to take those beautiful left footed curlers from the top of the box, or to break through all defenders while still in control of the ball at top speed and slip one gently by the keeper. Also, playing with a new team, new players, a new city has all contributed to his performance. You are correct that his play making is still top notch however the goal of the club would not be to only focus on feeding Mbappe. He is leaving PSG and this was known before they signed Messi. It will be left to Messi and Neymar to pick up the slack, unless PSG can bring in an amazing replacement for Mbappe. They would not want Messi to lose his goal scoring form just so that they can perform well for 1 more season, that is incredibly short sighted. I did enjoy this video though and I really enjoyed your focus on the Xavi Iniesta era. Thank you.
You make it sounds like Messi learned from all of the above mentioned players... but the ironic thing is.... Ronaldinho himself said ... "Messi just knows.." lol. I love Xavi and Iniesta, but saying that Messi learned from both players and create a new style, is nonsense.
I was thinking about this situation of Messi's goal drought about two months ago. It was always the high expectations (as you rightly pointed out). But it has a double- sided nature to it. If Messi stopped scoring, people would lash out (like the present scenario). They would think that he would score many goals in an apparent "farmer's league". On the other hand; if he scored a lot of goals, people would discredit it as he was playing in a "league with less quality" and would say that it doesn't challenge him and he's doing that for the money. Great video!
Im a Real Madrid fan, but seeing Messi and Neymar gets disrespected by PSG is such a shameful act from the PSG fans. They surely take things for granted...
As a Messi fan, I always had high level of respect for Cristiano Ronaldo. It made me sad that I couldn't find the same on the other side. It's good to see some finally. Messi is also spending a lot of time injured this season too. He pulled a lot last season.
I agree it’s not like Messi is finished the guy still has amazing finesse and legendary touch he could definitely score more goals if he needed to but PSG tends to be able to carry it’s own weight so he doesn’t have to relied on as much as he was at barca
Messi can never get over the fact that he was trashed by Barcelona. The pain can heal but the scar will always stay. Poor GOAT Messi. Hope you’ll be always happy with your family. Hope his kids will be legendary like their father. I can wait another 15-20 years lol
He is playing as the playmaker in PSG and had 7 shots on the framework. If he scored those he would be a hero. The only thing that he failed was the missed penalty against Madrid.
Messi's stats are impressive. However, he does frustrate me when I watch in big games. He needs to be more involved on the defensive side when the ball is higher up in the pitch. Just like moderately press you know. Not too much... Other than this, I think he is performing well
I agree that he hasn't been pressing a lot lately, but that is unlike him. He is the type of player to run back and win the ball or at least press. But I think we need to give attention to the fact to his age and his attacking role, which makes defensive moves physically demanding and exhausting
Messi’s finishing has simply been off. He used to do it effortlessly, now it's like he thinks too much and takes too many touches. Creative wise I think he's doing quite well. Messi as a playmaker is still doing his job
Messi is such a great unrepeatable player because he can adapt new skills to his repertoire and still learn/improve new techniques and the ones he already has. I’d argue he even learned to push for perfection a little bit more because of his rivalry with CR7. If he were a scholar or researcher he’d be the trailblazing genius that still learns new things from seasoned professionals, rivals, and students alike.
The thing is that even if Messi was the top scorer in ligue 1 last season, haters would still clown him and say that it was too easy to do it in a farmers league.

Wow you actually listened to my request, this guy is unbiased,he cares about his subscribers.Thank you for the video
I had to do it 💯
This was my thought process exactly when I saw/heard all the complaints. Mbappe is much younger and is a rising star, and Messi is now the "wiser", more experienced player that can lead. SO it makes sense for him to back off in being the star and just being one of the major cogs in the PSG system.
plus people forget Messi always was a playmaker, he creates chances. Now at PSG he can be purely a playmaker, he doesn't have to compete with Mbappe
That's has become a reality now 🔥
Some things I agree with and others I disagree with.
Love this
I just love your comment ❤️💯
The man Barca needs but don’t deserve 🦇
Amazing, can I just use this script to create a whole video? :D
Perfect.

He adjust his playing style for 7 years and that his way of playing
u know people will say smthng like "ronaldo is 37 but still can play better than messi". they need to understand that cr7 got a really really good physical body than messi. we cant deny the fact that cr7 will do better than messi even if he is older than messi. but all of it bcs of their physical difference. damn

And it looks like it paid off.

speaking of the 3rd goal during the WC 2022 final, it indeed appears that when he wants, he scores...
if there wasn't the unfortunate handball towards the end of the extra time, the match would have ended without penalty shootout...

What a great way to analyze and recognize a great player.thank u .
He has 17 goals + assists in 23 games.
Hitting the crossbar 9 times is not something to brag about. It just means that his finishing/shooting is not quite there yet.
I remember years ago when Messi would get an 8/10 match performance many sports critics/analysts would say he under performed. Messi and Ronaldo set an extremely high standard in their prime that People forget they’re in their 30s now lol

There’s no need to real football fans know he’s miles ahead of both xavi and iniesta.
He’s a playmaker now
Wow! This is lovely... ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You nailed it 👌
Messi is really a goat...
Thank you.
He's being treated for vaccine related issues. He'll be Fully "Back" in a few; You'll see!😎
You make it sounds like Messi learned from all of the above mentioned players... but the ironic thing is....

Age like fine wine
Messi's stats are impressive. However, he does frustrate me when I watch in big games. He needs to be more involved on the defensive side when the ball is higher up in the pitch. Just like moderately press you know. Not too much... Other than this, I think he is performing well
I agree that he hasn't been pressing a lot lately, but that is unlike him. He is the type of player to run back and win the ball or at least press. But I think we need to give attention to the fact to his age and his attacking role, which makes defensive moves physically demanding and exhausting
I feel like Messi is not the one with the problem, is mostly PSG's fault
This was a good video...
I wasn't expecting this kind of thinking.
You said what I think, but explained it plain!

I feel like he's keeping his legs fresh for the world cup also
Messi’s finishing has simply been off. He used to do it effortlessly, now it's like he thinks too much and takes too many touches.
Creative wise I think he's doing quite well. Messi as a playmaker is still doing his job
Exactly
Messi is such a great unrepeatable player because he can adapt new skills to his repertoire and still learn/improve new techniques and the ones he already has. I’d argue he even learned to push for perfection a little bit more because of his rivalry with CR7. If he were a scholar or researcher he’d be the trailblazing genius that still learns new things from seasoned professionals, rivals, and students alike.
Beautiful man!!!! Just beautiful!!! A completed in-depth analysis
The thing is that even if Messi was the top scorer in ligue 1 last season, haters would still clown him and say that it was too easy to do it in a farmers league.
