Coming into the 2021-2022 season, PSG was thought to be the most fearsome club in the world. But now, this superteam looked more and more like a disappointment. Do they have what it takes to become the world's best club, or are they a failure? Here's why I think they were a failed superteam last season.

They might have the best front three on paper, but it's clear that they have yet to truly mesh. In Barcelona, the team was designed to function for Messi, but in PSG it's for Mbappe. Not to mention, while they have great players, their defenders and midfielders are not on the same level as the other big teams like Liverpool, City, Bayern, Madrid and etc. It's still a team that is run by individuals. Real basically got completely destroyed the first leg but courtois pulled out an insane performance so they only scored one. The 2nd leg they started the same way but then first donnarumma completely bottled it, and then marquinhos, the one who's usually the most reliable gave away another goal for free. Psg and man City are glass cannons, yea they pack a punch but they're very easy to break and have no resistance to sustained pressure. It's the formation which is the problem. In 4-3-3 formation, wingers and striker are not the only important player. The most important players is central midfielder. Because in this formation striker gets easily isolated if you're relying him on too much. Also it's difficult for winger to score goal because most of the time they have to take diagonal shots which are difficult to execute. One more thing they can do is crossing but for that you need really good player with incredible strength and heading accuracy which their forwards lack. So here comes the role of central midfielder because they can exploit the space in middle and either take a shot or can create chance for a striker to score a goal with their through passes.

PSG best opportunity to win the UCL was 2020 and this year. I can’t see them winning soon I would have loved/like to see Mbappe win it even after what he did to Madrid 😂

Real Madrid offered Mbappe very similar terms to PSG according to his mother. Maybe, just maybe, as a French superstar and an icon for the youth he wants to show them you can build a legacy in France as a French player? Not everything is about money mate, PSG is a lot bigger than that.

I agree with everything you said. I do have to say tho, Messi is probably discouraged with the club because hes playing with selfish players like pbappe. The dude has messi on the edge of the box in crucial moments almost every time. Messi’s positioning is elite but other players care about their egos more than winning. That’s probably why messi is so discouraged with psg. At barca players like alba is always passing it to him. It sucks seeing messi like this man it rlly does

Mbappe has the unique opportunity to lift this team into stardom. It would mean more for his career, then going to an established Champions League contender like Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich.... And PSG should stop bringing veteran star players who are there just to score more on their bank accounts, and concentrate on bringing in some young promissing talents....

True I always thought the lack of a project was a big reason for the crumbling of PSG every year. No real style or identity because stars with different profiles were always in and out. Mbappe and Ney are the first real identity PSG has ever had. Building a system around them and knowing the game plan can eliminate a lot of nerves and uncertainty when things get hard. All they need now is a good solid manager to not get fired one season into the job

The problem with superteams is having too many people who like creating plays. Glad you used basketball because that sport makes it more obvious about the issues of acquiring star players. Kyrie and Harden, just like Messi and Neymar need the ball to create. Players like them just need specialist around them, not another creative star player. PSG´s problem is not the players imo it´s team management and recruitment. They should not have got these 3 players together.

PSG is feeling the lack of competition. If the league was like La Liga or EPL, no other team can match up to it's potential. Even Bayern players faced competition before joining. They don't buy players to earn money but to dominate. PSG does not want to dominate, they are just a fancy club to showcase fancy players and flex money. Galacticos still had much more passion to win than PSG

    • @usersixnine347

What competition did Bayern face? Bayern dominates bundesliga even more than psg does ligue 1. The league competition argument isn’t correct. It’s time to simply point out that this is a psg problem, and they need to take accountability for bottling so much. Don’t look at when psg loses, look at HOW they lose. Literally the biggest bottler club in the world. They choke away wins.

@@usersixnine347 Bayern takes players that plays well in other teams. All those players has proven well in Bayern. Germans side is always consistant for a reason. France was never known as a consistant side. Bayern got their top players of bundesliga in their team. Also they have different environment there. Not blaming their league but bayern also rarely win UCL but still keeps their performance top notch. PSG on other hand, has arrogant environment. Too much money, no seriousness, no opponents to face. When you get easy money and titles without breaking a sweat, won't most of the players will be happy with it? Bayern never spends that load of money and has strict regulations. They keep the players hungry, not happy

@@gginfuser7157 do you remember psg vs Barca 2017? 4-0 aggregate lead turned into a 6-1 2nd leg loss elimination. How? That is absolutely shameless. It’s not like I don’t want to give Barca credit for one of if not the greatest comebacks in football, but Jesus, I think it’s seriously more of psg bottling it than anything. How does that even happen? How can that happen? (Of course the referees in this match was questionable, but still.) 2019 had a 2-0 aggregate against Man U and somehow got eliminated in the 2nd leg. Again. 2020 we know they lost the final. Where they only had to play 1 leg. Can’t bottle if you play 1 leg right? Psg can only make the final if there is 1 leg. And they still Simply can not win. Last season against Madrid psg was up 2-0 aggregate with 30 minutes left in the 2nd leg and somehow someway got eliminated in the end after Madrid scored 3 goals. You’d think if psg choked up that aggregate lead they’d still go into extra time at least, but no, they completely bottled and lost in 30 minutes.
Psg can dominate. But they choke. You will never see psg absolutely get fully overperformed, but they choke. You can expect psg to be up 5-0 in the first leg and you can bet in the 2nd they will somehow get eliminated. Its crazy, it’s like this club purposefully fixes it so that they lose from a comeback, and specifically in the last minutes, lmfao. Always on the other end of a movie like comeback story, at this point no psg lead is ever safe.
Honestly, if the champions league was 1 leg psg would have already won maybe even 2 ucls at least by now.
