If you look at World Soccer's 50 most exciting teenage footballers 2007, At number 5, Giovanni Dos Santos was ranked higher than players like Gareth Bale, Sergio Aguero, Karim Benzema, Di Maria, Toni Kroos, Mesut Ozil, and Alexis Sanchez.
And to make it even more legit - Giovani Dos Santos was a personal favorite of manager Frank Rijkaard who saw his potential and a younger brother and apprentice to the guy who many thought his game was similar to most - Ronaldinho.
But despite all that, today, he’s largely forgotten. So just what happened? Well, Let’s look at the downfall of Giovani Dos Santos.

All of them pretty much flopped in Europe (or didn't even hit primetime). Pato and Renato Augusto, to be fair, had their moments in the sun (especially Pato) but injuries derailed their career trajectories.
Shoutout to #21 Guilherme who, after floundering in Ukraine and Russia, came back to Brazil and became a hero on Atlético Mineiro (Cruzeiro's main rival) for saving them from elimination in the semis of Libertadores by scoring in minute 95 and then a year later scoring 2 in the quarter-finals of the national cup to come back from a 3-0 deficit.

Both of the Dos Santos brothers, Carlos Vela, and Chicharito have all had pretty successful careers in the grand scheme of things. Just because they never went on to play in the champions league consistently or win league titles, doesn’t mean that they didn’t live up to the hype.
They were all fundamental in putting Mexico on the map as a top talent-producing nation in Latin America, and still are considered as the best footballers out of Mexico.
