Now you see why things were built so much better back in the day, just by watching you disassemble with all those parts. Now a day’s it’s 3 or 4 screws and a couple of plastic clips. Great job brother
I once had a similar toy 51yrs ago by Tonka, as I grew into adolescence, I ended up tossing it into the pond behind my house, during a dry spell 3yrs ago that truck revealed itself again & I retrieved it, even though it was to far gone to save, it actually made me think, of how much I loved it as a kid, & wished I hadn't done such stupid thing! At least now I have a real truck...lol
It's remarkable how once upon a time in America, this much quality of workmanship and attention to detail went into even a little kid's toy like this. They were made here in the States and the people who worked in the factories could live on what they earned, and there were no suicide nets on top of the buildings.
@@joe_diy OMG!!! Thank you so much for restoring that toy. It is an American LaFrance series 800 pumper truck. I drove one of those, for real, for 11 years. If it had been scaled out, that would've been the 200 gallon water tank version. Mine had a 750 gallon water tank, so it was longer than your run of the mill 800's. The sound of that V-12 engine, the air siren-it gets in your blood and never goes away.
@@The_Dudester Awesome story and history! Never knew much about the old pumpers but a lot of people have been psoting various facts! Doepke makes a ladder truck version as well
@@joe_diy I always wanted the Doepke models, but when they were available money was tight. Buddy L also makes an awesome series 900. The pickup truck you restored earlier, a family that adopted me not only owned that model of truck, they gave me the toy version and I played with it until the wheels fell off. No one restored toys back then and I am sorry to say it ended up in the city dump.
This restoration was a real labour of love. I couldn't believe the attention to detail this manufacturer went into for a toy of that period! Today's manufacturers would be hard pressed putting out such quality in their toys. You really went all out, this resto is no less than a work of art in my opinion. Just magnificent.
I remember seeing a bright red fire engine in the 60's when I was a child. It was at a small substation in Indianapolis. Your restoration reminded me of that fire truck. Your attention to detail is greatly appreciated. Thank you for making this video.
Congratulations for your patience. I don't have any. This toy is also my favourite. There's a lot of engineering in this truck, respect to Doepke brothers!
This is a great project !! Today’s toys vehicles and items are made of nothing at all but plastic !! These very old ones are made of STEEL !! These antique pieces last so much longer than the new ones do !! Thank you 🙏📚📖🚒 !!
Now that was a labor of love for this old toy that deserves a special spot on the display shelf. Very well done and very well presented. I especially liked that you didn't tear it all the way down to individual little pieces. This truck stood just fine without tearing the fenders off, the bottom off, ect.. Thanks for sharing this video with me.
Cheryl Hartwig After performing an amazing restore on a similar fire truck, he topped it off by wadding the hose around the spool like a madman. Much love to R&R, but the hose roll was weird. He’s a flawed hero.
Let's face it. ANYONE can take stuff apart. Hell, even I can. The talent, skills & knowledge to know what to with it after it's disassembled, is what really matters. If that was me, I'd have parts left over. Your ability to bring things "back to life" is absolutely amazing. Keep being you.
Dung Trumpet Never ceases to amaze me how I can be watching “Andes Goat Herding” one minute, then here the next. And you don’t know how you got to either place lol!
What a good quality madenfire truck. Back in the days they realy know what they were doing. Thanks for showing us this restoration man i enjoied every minute of it😎
Watching you fight with those compression washers, reminded me of a great tool I’ve used. Its basically a pair of needle-nose pliers, but the bottom jaw is a thin fork (a “V”). Aircraft mechanics use them for something, but they are perfect for removing those washers. It was thinking how nice it would look to paint the caps and control wheels on the side pump panel shiny silver (paint pen). Just a beautiful job, on a nice classic toy, thanks for sharing !

Having grown up in Elmira NY where they manufactured American LaFrance fire trucks. This restore project is very cool. Very nice piece
That was one of the best engineered and designed toys i've ever seen, someone put their heart in making that fire truck
So True
I had this very same toy firetruck in 1957. Just awesome to see it restored like that thank you.
Good morning Greg. Did the pump actually spray water?
The detail and craftsmanship back in the day was ridiculous.
The crap from China is ridiculuos.

Made to last
@@markboyle9769 for sure mark, I dont think my real truck would last that long... Lol
'RIDICULOUS!?' A really poor choice of word, don't you think?
The complex assembly of old toy trucks is amazing. Nothing like that today.
That toy would win in a crash with most modern sedans....
@@jaystarsky7271 hes talking about the toy, the complexity of it you simpleton
Fantastic you are so clever and dedicated and patient ,you bring new life to all the broken toys

Great job. Interesting toy.
You did a great job! I'm happy to see this fire truck is ready to be played with once again.
Thanks! Our may need to team up and put out a doll house fire!

@@The_Dudester Are you talking about the older fire Engines that required a firefighter on the back end to steer the rear of the truck?
The original quality of the steel used in this toy really comes across in your wonderful restoration well done
I was thinking the same thing it looks very sturdy

That really bugged me , after all that hard work!

Bravo. Very nicely done. Encore, encore.
My favorite restoration so far! What a cute fire truck! Very well made.
Love classic firetrucks- beautiful restoration !
GORGEOUS!!! All it needs now is a fan siren up front and a red 'bubblegum' rotator on top!
Very nice restoration....my favorite part is the effort and creativity that goes into the fabrication of replacement parts. Thanks.
Such well made toys. Beautiful restore.
Absolutely Beautiful Restoration Job. I’m hoping to buy that same fire truck and restore it some day.

Ironic perhaps. A restored fire truck that survived a fire. Excellent job.
Nice work,we don't see this kind of toys, that often, many of the companies that used to make this, disappear.this are like treasures, and very rare.👏👍👍
Nicely done. The finished product is beautiful.
Excellent! I love just watching the process without constant babble or cheesy music. Great job!!
