Now you see why things were built so much better back in the day, just by watching you disassemble with all those parts. Now a day’s it’s 3 or 4 screws and a couple of plastic clips. Great job brother

I once had a similar toy 51yrs ago by Tonka, as I grew into adolescence, I ended up tossing it into the pond behind my house, during a dry spell 3yrs ago that truck revealed itself again & I retrieved it, even though it was to far gone to save, it actually made me think, of how much I loved it as a kid, & wished I hadn't done such stupid thing!
At least now I have a real truck...lol

It's remarkable how once upon a time in America, this much quality of workmanship and attention to detail went into even a little kid's toy like this. They were made here in the States and the people who worked in the factories could live on what they earned, and there were no suicide nets on top of the buildings.

@@joe_diy OMG!!! Thank you so much for restoring that toy. It is an American LaFrance series 800 pumper truck. I drove one of those, for real, for 11 years. If it had been scaled out, that would've been the 200 gallon water tank version. Mine had a 750 gallon water tank, so it was longer than your run of the mill 800's. The sound of that V-12 engine, the air siren-it gets in your blood and never goes away.

@@joe_diy I always wanted the Doepke models, but when they were available money was tight. Buddy L also makes an awesome series 900.
The pickup truck you restored earlier, a family that adopted me not only owned that model of truck, they gave me the toy version and I played with it until the wheels fell off. No one restored toys back then and I am sorry to say it ended up in the city dump.

This restoration was a real labour of love. I couldn't believe the attention to detail this manufacturer went into for a toy of that period! Today's manufacturers would be hard pressed putting out such quality in their toys. You really went all out, this resto is no less than a work of art in my opinion. Just magnificent.

Let's face it. ANYONE can take stuff apart. Hell, even I can. The talent, skills & knowledge to know what to with it after it's disassembled, is what really matters. If that was me, I'd have parts left over. Your ability to bring things "back to life" is absolutely amazing. Keep being you.

Watching you fight with those compression washers, reminded me of a great tool I’ve used. Its basically a pair of needle-nose pliers, but the bottom jaw is a thin fork (a “V”). Aircraft mechanics use them for something, but they are perfect for removing those washers. It was thinking how nice it would look to paint the caps and control wheels on the side pump panel shiny silver (paint pen). Just a beautiful job, on a nice classic toy, thanks for sharing !
