Hi Rob, Chris. Not really this Range Rover related but certainly JLR related. I took my XF to JR vehicle services after watching numerous videos of yours and the one of Josh changing the dreaded timing chains on the Ingenium engine. What a great chap he is. He found numerous issues with the chain and the ancillaries, but sought permission from myself before changing any of them as the original quote was only for the chain, guides and tensioners. He kept the old bits to show me when i collected the car too. The car now drives so much better than it ever has previously. Certainly quieter and more responsive too. Thank you for showing that video, it certainly made my mind up. The best bit was the total bill. Half the cost of my local JLR main stealer and with all the other parts fitted too. Hi Rob and Chris, Just a longshot, If you have a problem of lack of electrical power between the rear and front of the vehicle the main supply cable that runs underfloor sometimes rubs through the outer cover and shorts out with the rear subframe, There is a tight spot where the cable passes between the floor and the rear subframe, the rough surface of the Aluminumn casting does the damage when the cable isn't routed or clipped in the correct place and the subframe moves around on the rubber mounts , doesnt explain why the engine wont turn over though , Good luck hope you get it sorted 🤞
No need to apologise Rob I found it very interesting watching you try and figure it out I had nothing to offer Well at least you just need a motor and since you just did one this one will be easy 😢😢 Looking forward to the tear down 👍👍🇦🇺
Can't win them all first time guys but you guys will sort it as you always do .. keep up the fantastic work guys . Always a pleasure to watch your videos..
Looks to be a very early autobiography with the extremely rare executive seating option. I believe at the time this was a £3000 option and was discontinued not long after - only being brought back on the SV Autobiography and LWB models. My dad's got an 2012 supercharged V8 with the exact same option and I believe this is only the 3rd or 4th one I've actually seen. You'll probably find it'll have the updated meridian sound system too - again another expensive option!
@@HowardLeVert certainly is. I believe that was around a £1500 option back then. Not sure if it’s standard now or not. Can speak from experience it’s a very worthwhile option!
I’m by no means a trader but as soon as I heard that loud click my mind went to grab a breaker bar. Beautiful vehicle with purple calipers have to pay extra for that I bet. Thanks so much Gentlemen for getting involved.
This was a tough day at the office! I hope with your connections you can resolve this somehow. It just goes to show how hard it is in this trade. Thanks for the great video
Invest in a clamp ammeter that reads DC amps (most only read AC amps). The meter should show 60-80A on cranking - any more and there's a definite short. Such meters also show much lower current readings too and can be great at identifying leakage current and pointing to what could be causing it. the current I state would be 'running' and not cranking.
@@HowardLeVert Fair comment. Typical starter motor wattage ranges from 500W to 1400W so amperage on the larger motors would be 100+ but for a seized engine - and ultimately a stalled starter motor - that current is limited by the internal motor resistance and will be a lot higher than the average and could even be 500A+ - easily spotted 'instantly' on such a meter and reason enough to stop what you're doing!
i would assume without a battery connected, there would be no circuit, so jump pack would not power system up. also, with new starter, alternator and turbo, i would suspect driven thru flood, and tried to repair before realizing engine was seized.
Hi Rob and Chris, good looking car.. one thing these video's have shown me is, even if I could afford one I wouldn't buy a Range Rover. Looking like another engine swap for you guy's. Alex.
I had an apparent seized engine on a Freelander 2, the actual fault turned out to be a jammed solenoid, which had locked the pinion in, so locking the engine, and the ECU start-up sequence did not complete, showing a communications failure. It was a brand new starter motor, too.
With the cost of spares and running cost's you really have to consider why you keep buying these especially with the bad press they keep attracting. Time to move it on for breaking and go on with what you do best.
I would say it’s definitely likely that a new engine would sort it, and lets be fair there have been more than enough of these robbed over the last 18 months to be able to find an engine available, or strip it and and see what’s up instead, it would be excellent content if nothing else

LOL I think nowadays people with little money buy expensive cars which they can just about afford to run but can't afford to maintain and cut out basic servicing, killing turbos, engines etc... Likely the case with this one and then it's ended up at a backstreet garage who have fitted a starter motor, alternator and turbo. Why would someone not have already turned the engine over by hand, if you have to change a starter motor you should most of the time turn it over by hand
That was a very interesting video Rob & Chris and so will the following one be. I have every faith in you that you’ll will get to the bottom of what happened, how and why. I can’t wait to see how this progresses. 😊

Ok, just a novice here, but if this is anything like the Jags, you shouldnt try starting car from the 2 points in the engine. The risk is you can blow some modules. Those 2 points are to connect 12 volts to so you can open the boot (i think). Then you access the battery to put the power there. From my experience you may have just blown a fuse which stops the modules from being blown. The other thing others have said is to close all doors lock, then re open, and try to start again. 🤷🏼
I agree with Chris, it would be unusual for a brand new starter motor to be toast. It is all guess work as you say but the new turbo might be a clue for a seized engine. On the other hand is something else seized that is connected to the engine? It is a gamble as you always say Rob but I have faith in both of you that you will come up with the best solution. Thanks for the video Rob and Chris well done for filming what you did manage to film in those tight spaces. 👍👍
