    FYI the 48 v battery requires a 12v ignition supply to close the internal contactor, so testing with a multimeter with ignition off with always show 0v.
    Also these only charge when engine is running so don't let it go too flat as they are eye-wateringly expensive 😂

    Cracking video Chaps. Those Volvos are very expensive when it comes to bits. A mate, last week, was quoted £495 for a replacement key fob. £790 for a blown headlight. Sealed unit. The days of buying a £5 bulb are going!
    It’s a bit daft that you can’t even move the drivers seat after a bump.

    I have a V50, and I had to replace a rear light cluster, because the brake light had stopped working on one side. The side light and indicator bulbs are just conventional bulbs, but the brake lights are LED's soldered onto little circuit boards X 4 boards connected to each other with narrow ribbon cables.
    The entire rear light cluster was nearly £300 new, but I managed to a used one for less than £100 delivered. And later on, I found a spare set of the boards with the LED's attached for £20, so I bought those as well.
    I had to buy a headlight unit too, as the electric height adjuster had stopped working. And on the V50, they are just standard projector units, unless you have the Xenon's factory fitted, which aren't very common. But the headlight unit was about £200 new.
    So yeah, these modern light units can be eye wateringly expensive, especially the newer LED variety. And unless you are a tech wizz, you cannot just replace a bulb when they stop working, you have to buy the whole thing, which is criminal really, and wasteful, unless the broken ones can be recycled or fixed.
    Lovely V60 it will be when it's all done. My V50 has the 'Calcite' leather interior, the same colour as this I think.

Best wishes from Lincolnshire.

    This might help you. Lead acid batteries unlike lithium follow the rule of maximum charge at 10% of capacity. This means that a dead flat battery will not charge to full charge for at least ten hours. You should allow 2 hours up front to balance. After 20 years in the battery industry and a lot of money made from successfully “ reconditioning “ batteries I hope this saves you money.

    An interesting one pulled out of the hat, your joy at making the breakthrough was justified, by all the hot tiring build up you had to get there. It almost feels like the rebuilding will be the easy part, the mountain you have to climb was the real issue. Bad news, you have climbed one mountain of challenges, now you have the other set of 'difficulties' getting all the hard to find and expensive parts. Good luck with your shopping basket over your arm as you head off!

    48V batter work with a integrated starter generator (hefty alternator) and a thicker drive belt (on ford which I work with at least) and they assist the car with a small boost in power when accelerating to support the engine. On the fords when you actually drive the MHEV (48v mild hybrid electric vehicle) they actually get better economy than if you poodle about all slowly

    • @neilgorin1037
      @neilgorin1037 Год назад

      Same with these. I have a new one, exactly the same colour combo as this. You get better mpg putting your foot down to accelerate as the electric motor does a lot of the work, to gently and it actually uses more fuel.

    You’ll be surprised at some prices direct from Volvo.. I’ve had service parts and some replacement parts cheaper from them than going online for them new after market 😅 not always of course!
