looking at the numberplate that car was last sold by Riviera Automotive. I'd give them a call to find out if a Ghost II or Pandora Elite was installed. Those SVR motors are pretty robust. You'll have her purring back to life in no time 👌
So pleased that after Rob's 'Oh, no! Oh, no!' that the water wasn't coming out of another huge hole in the engine. Should be a cheap fix and a huge profit hopefully. 🤞👍👍
I have a Ghost 2 fitted, allows the car to start but without the secret input any attempt to drive it stops the engine and it is backed up with a Scorpion S5 tracker
If you're getting SOS limited functionality message, it could mean the Telematics module is offline - and if it is, that would explain the no start situation, verify it is online with a scan tool. Pine Hollow Auto Diagnostics did a video on similar model of vehicle - with same symptoms
Gosh fantastic video. But the best bit was I diagnosed head gasket from early information. Well chuffed but I have had a couple of engines over my 45 years with the same problem. Once Rob managed to turn the engine by hand no noise then that was me onto head gasket. Not very often I can diagnose before you guys .
It’s good to see an obvious fault on something so complicated !. I’ve never seen a head gasket leak that fast ! - wow, must be no gasket left. All fingers crossed Rob it’s just the gasket and not the head damaged. Time for the spanner’s 😊…
Lock and unlock your doors- had the same problem with a Mini after I disconnected the battery to do a service, after reconnecting the battery it wouldn't start until I did the door locks. 116,000 for one of those things- P.T. Barnum was right.
@@TimmsyTFG Yes, but some fool paid 116K back in 2018 and lost 70K in depreciation plus a fortune in maintenance. 300 yards away and it looks like a dozen other grocery getters.
I would be checking inlet manifold before head gasket, that's getting in there at a rate of knots.maybe inlet manifold is water cooled ? Try blocking coolant channels and refill system maybe ?
As nice as these motors are it’s like playing a game of Russian roulette whenever you buy one. You’ve got to be good with the spanner’s to own anything Land Rover. Looking forward to seeing how this build goes. Good luck with the project 👍
They are truly not that bad, says the man happily on his seventh Range Rover. But it helps to understand what you've got so that you don't panic if there is a problem.
i really wish people would get off this soapbox about "unreliable Land Rovers", its utter rubbish - all modern cars have there fair share of issues, these are no worse...
I would double check that the water isnt coming from the y pipe under the supercharger a d running into the bores down the side, the same engine in my ftype and when the y pipe went it poured down the side of the engine. Put the plugs back in and i bet it still flows out
seatbelt burns used to be common on seats, changed a few in my times you don't know if this is it's first rodeo, airbag deployment previously due to OSF suspension damage ?, repaired on cheap [hence missing shield]because someone couldn't afford a claim? let's hope some answers appear in comments...
My thoughts completely. I will say that they usually come up with a transmission fault or EML if tried to be started without the code being entered, because of loss of communication.
To me it looked like the water was coming out too fast for a head gasket problem. Someone suggested inlet manifold. I think that is more likely as the leak is so fast. A piece blown out to create a large hole maybe.
when you said it was Corris grey it made me 🤣🤣. Corris is a village in mid Wales and it used to be a slate mining area so there is a lot of slate waste around the area and the hills around Corris are grey

Excellent, I can't wait to watch the second part. One thing I know, you two make nothing impossible and I'm old school. Keep it coming, lads. Positive thinking wins the day.
These are complicated engines they need very regular servicing, brought up to temp before being driven hard. Most of them have been abused by owners with more money than sense.

That was great when the notification hit Chris,s phone 😂 well done for catching him out Rob and having the microphone on but I can't see 100 odd k in a range
Doubt it would be covered warranty if its still valid. Got a feeling it's got hot from another leak and cooked the head. Previous owner carried on driving it with all the warning lights on
Love the look on Chris face. Great purchase. I’m certain you will make a good profit on it. Why am I certain? Because after watching over 500 of your videos I don’t think I can recall you ever not making one 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Most likely will have a Ghost immobiliser fitted and that’s why it won’t start. Shame about the head gasket but I’m sure it will be worth it at the end.
Very nice car which im quite sure you will coerce back into life. The condition of the car itself states that someone tried to diagnose but to no avail... keep us updated and crack on
Wonder if it's been hydrolocked (water in the inlet) causing a head gasket failure? Hence they pulled the oil filter to see if the bottom end has suffered damage.
Hi I fit ghosts and that’s what the dash does it sweeps your best bet is checking the fuse area and relay area they stick out like a sore thumb, take the relay out and bridge the wires over or crimp them to touch them together that’s how to get past the ghost ….
I love range rovers especially the svrs their such a nice piece of kit an lovely to drive but whats always put me off owning one is the reliabilty of them i work in the trade aswell an ive seen how expensive they can be to be repaired so always been in the back of my mind every time ive considered buying one so have always ended up buying something else not brave enough 😂

Wondering if the car won’t try and start off the button due to an immobiliser, Autowatch Ghost is common on these
Highly possible i was gonna suggest the exact same thing.
I was going to comment the same thing

Ghost immobiliser stopping that from starting I think
Immobiliser
I had "All creatures great and small" flash backs to vet checking the cows when Chris had his hand down the front of the engine "feels like a 19mm" :)
