Fair does to Dave ( the seller) he presented the RR in a nice clean condition and informed you of its niggling problems. Well done Dave. Yes Matt, do a follow up. 👍
Matt, I would love to see a follow-up video on the Range Rover Vogue after you had fixed everything. It would be interesting to know how much it all cost you and what needed to be fixed after the service.
I miss my L322 so much. There’s just something about them. I’d have another in a heartbeat even though my last one gave me massive problems. Weird I know. They get under your skin.
Me too. I ran a TD6 for a few years about 10 years ago and every time it went wrong ( which was often ! ) it would cost some multiple of £800 to fix 😞 However I fancy a TDV8 now !
Hello Matt That smoke is indeed the webasto heater. I have a td6 and its the same. Under 4 degrees Celsius outside temperature the webasto heater kicks in to help the engine warm up quicker. When the engine is warm it stops. If it don’t stops your thermostat is broken. I pulled out the fuse in the glove compartment. I mean why would u need this. Heated steering wheel, heated seat, heated front window, and the engine can warm up on its own like every other car😂😜 Cant wait to see more video’s about this car. Keep up the good work.
£16k spend over 17 years isn't bad at all, it's £941 a year, at least half of that would be servicing, then tyres.... most Mercs would have had probably double that spent in that time.
Am back in Marrakech Sunday . Flying not driving. If you've not been I recommend it. It's an amazing place. Note the speed limit is mainly 60 mph , 355 miles from Tangier. 6 hrs 50 mins . But, don't drive in Marrakech, nothing good will come of that , not even in a Rangey. Oh and there is nowhere to park in Central Marrakech. Unless you stay at The Savoy😂
Ive also got a 2007 TDV8, and for the price it is everything you want from a car. It’s still 80% the same feel as my old 2019 L405 SDV6. The reality is, it cost me £1500 and I’ll run it until it’s not viable to repair, but so far so good!
I am in a similar position - I have a 3.9 P38 which I have owned for 20 or so years, a 4.4Tdv8 L322 which I have owned about 4 years and a 4.4 SDV8 L405, which I have just bought a few months ago - I absolutely love them all, each of them have their own character and get used for different roles…. Well that’s how I justify my ‘Habit’ or RR ‘addiction’ 😳.
Honestly, replace the naff 20 years old satnav and the dashboard layout is still spot on… knobs and switches that can be used wearing gloves…. A true classic in the making 👍
Radio issue could be a fault in the MOST system. I sorted mine by getting a fibre optic loop cable and isolated each module until I found the fault, which was the Bluetooth module. Got a Jag replacement and all good since 😃
Matt, I watched one of your videos nearly 4 years on a freelander ..so I bought a 07 HSe I service it every 5000kms..its never let me down apart from a split turbo pipe it's got 250k on the clock great car I'll keep it!
What a bargain - lovely spec and condition. As a life time Ranger Rover owner of many years - treat the older cars the same as a new one, don’t skimp on cheap non OEM parts, and they will look after you… definitely look forward to regular updates and road trips on this car. P.s. What’s the latest on your brand new RR - have I missed a further update?
Hi mate do not sell Vet 9 save it for dry summer drives. So some restoration over the winter so it drives and looking it best for the summer. Use your new to you L322 as your winter run around, Keep Vet 9 it will like you say go up in value! Take it to shows etc!
I was just going to post the same. At the time we had no idea the car was fitted with one and I don't recall the brochure mentioning it. Cue panic on the first cold morning start up with the car wreathed in smoke.
Nice to see you in a proper Range Rover again. Now....notchy steering will be the uj joints on the steering shaft, they will be dry, oil up and will be all good...mine did this and was not the rack. She's 18 years old....take the plastic sill trim off and check the sills and also check the front and rear subframe and ...the rear boot floor and lanogaurd it. Mine has just gone in for a new rear subframe and...boot floor. As for updates....silly question Matt....of course we want an update date. Keep us posted
If you can get to the back of the arch on a ramp, where it meets the sill is a direct access hole (bad design) that fills with mud and road muck. When they rot out on the arch you can see straight through to the source which is this hole/gap to the rear. Steam it out treat it with Hydrate 80 and fill with good quality clear cavity wax.
Worth every penny you paid buying, and every pound you’ll be spending to keep it going. I recently bought a RR 2002 4.4 V8, Petrol, and while the list of things to get sorted is a long as my arm, I just love driving the thing, whenever, and wherever I can. Words really can’t describe it to be honest, but I think it would be apt and timely to say that I feel like a kid on Christmas Day every time I get in it and drive. The way I see it, at least I can say i’ve owned one of these before the time the roads are 100% leccy motors.
Matt. If you haven’t got an option on the infotainment screen for timed climate then you may not have the option to just buy a remote for the DPH. All of them had a DPH which automatically kicks in at around 4 degrees. So just because you have a DPH it doesn’t mean you can use a remote. I think you can buy a remote unit to attach to the DPH so a remote will then work. I am looking forward to your updates. I have had two L320 sports, my last has just died with a crankshaft and I have just bought a 2012 L322 4.4 tdv8 which does have a remote.
Inside and out i think this is peak Range Rover. I like the chunkier buttons inside and mix of switches and screen, feels more unique than the newer models and for a while if you were going to get an autograph from a band it was out of the window of one of these. For 90k miles that's worn impressively well.
Can't believe the similarity with mine. I have a totally clean, as it left the factory, all clear glass, no chrome add ons, 2011 4.4d Vogue SE and the plate is.....RRZ 1202
Leave towbar on, just tidy it up with Waxoyle or black metal protector and maybe even have the electrics swapped from 7N/7S to the modern 13 pin socket. 😊
Don’t know what you have local Matt, but I’m running my XC60 on Esso Synergy, reall has made an improvement car is much more responsive than with standard diesel, and I don’t use supermarket stuff.
I'll give you a bit of inside information...I used to work at Sainsbury's years ago. Sainsbury's use BP, hence why they have exactly the same choices as a BP garage. Morrisons used to use Texaco-Haveline. The rumour about supermarket fuel being inferior was started by Shell marketing back in the 90s, after it was feared that they would lose market share to the supermarkets. Obviously the ludicrous idea that somehow fuel that comes from the same refinery and has the same additives is somehow inferior is still believed by a few people out there.
Hi Mat Definitely we need a follow-up video I think there are a number of us with a similar affliction to RANGE ROVERS AS YOU. Keep up the good work Ian in South Africa.
I do like the Beginning Middle End format of your videos. As part of the set up, I do find myself wanting to know why the seller is selling. To learn by the end if they were right or wrong would be a nice part of the Arc.
Got a real hankering for an L322 after a 15 hiatus . . . My fave was an ‘06 MY TD6, Buckingham Blue, clear glass & a standard Vogue. Hard to believe £2k gets one now & I can weld now too 😁
It would be good to see a follow up video. A customer of mine sold his Evoque and bought a Toyota CHR as running costs too high. They couldn't believe how cheap the CHR was to tax and run! I have a 2015 Auris Hybrid estate and £45 virtually fills the tank! I also have an old 1996 Volvo 940 petrol auto estate. My work van that's reliable, and comfy and just run in at 211,000 miles.
Yes to the follow up. And can we all refer to our car(s) by the reg plate. Although I am thinking of retiring RX22WPW doesnt have quite the same ring to it..
Matt another good find, you seem to have the knack, I will be interested in the fix for the radio going on and off as my 2003 Giverney keeps doing the same, only seems to work when stationary or sometimes when going slow. I have put 19 inch Bridgestone all weathers on the back and will put on the front also to replace the 14 year old very hard Wranglers.
Great purchase. I look forward to updates. Re the tow-bar, whether you decide to keep it or not I think you should get Jimmy the Magician to fix the damage on the bumper from careless lining up of trailers. Lets it down.
Get rid of the trailer hitch and keep up the awesome work! Not sure if you take this as a compliment, but you’re my modern-day Top Gear and Grand Tour. Love what you doing!
I have a 2017 D5 Power Pulse XC60 Inscription Pro. Performance is brilliant on ordinary fuel and averages 39.2 mpg (according to the Volvo app) running around locally. 43 mpg on a run. How does that compare with yours?
I think I'd keep the tow bar. My car has a tow bar that's never actually been used and I also considered removing it but honestly if some idiot forgets their brakes exist at the same time they stop looking out of their windscreen I think I'll be glad of that big metal ball as it rips through their radiator!
Yes, please, Matt. A follow-up video would be great, as always. 👍... With all that smoke coming from the RR, I thought it had been converted to an EV. 😂
Hi Matt you can find the pre heater remote on line and there’s also a good RUclips on how to re-sync to the car. Sorted my missing remote and works perfectly now on frosty morning. TD V8 3.6 LD10 @@@ with 43,500 miles I’m the 2nd owner. Love the Range Rover videos.
I definitely fancy one of these but u have a D3 at the moment. The sticky steering is likely to be down to a steering column UJ easy to replace and well worth it. If you are keeping it only fit an original spec one, as others will fail too quickly! Enjoy 😁
I am sure I have a diesil heater remote at home from my 07 plate that died from rust this year, its sat in the key box in the kitchen, ill send it up if you want it. The boot gas struts will just be cold, and the banging on ocasional pull away is most likely the rear propshaft support bearings.
Great purchase!. Providing a running report on your new purchase over 12 months is an excellent idea - I bet a lot of folks would like to buy something similar, but are scared off by the potential costs. Of course, the feedback over that period might confirm the costs were as high as they had guessed 😊.
Definitely do a follow-up, this is one of my all time favorite Range Rovers and especially nice to see one unmolested by silly bling and I'd leave the tow bar
A Morocco trip would be amazing, why not replicate the trip done by Harry metcalfe, the Range Rover would be perfect and provide evidence that a properly maintained older RR is still up to the job
The L322 is my favourite range rover. The videos on this is what made me subscribe so of course doing a year following and documenting this cars journey is a great idea. Maybe I'll finally buy one myself.
I’ve just bought the 2019 version of this with almost identical specs. Would love to see a follow up video as this car looks amazing! Why is it that everyone else gets the bargain!😂😂😂
This looks like fun Matt. Nice motor. Please do a follow up when sorted and then, as you suggested, perhaps an update after 6 or 12 months. Good luck fella. Cheers Roj
Matt, yes please to a follow up. Looks a bargain car but Governments ambitions to increase road tax would worry me. Then again that makes them cheaper to buy.
Unfortunately your webasto is close to repair. No webasto either diesel or gasoline do smoke like that when they are full working order. You better fix it before it goes to lock because it did not start. It may only need that equipment in the combustion chamber to get rid of the smoke. Pre heaters will smoke heavily when temperature outside is -15 and colder. Then the moisture in the exhaust is clearly seen. If you do not want to repair the webasto. Turn the autostart off so it does not start with the engine.
Do either 1 video update a month or a 1 hour special in 12. Either way cap it off with a good road trip and maybe a challenge... Drive up something steep maybe or drive to the bardenes reales...
Thats a beautiful car! Seems like a damn good deal. Best of luck with it Matt. ...and yes please to follow-ups. One after it's fixed, and - depending on how Range Rovery it behaves - one or several showing how the first year went. The L322 is still, and will likely always be, my favourite Range Rover.
My Webasto did that on initial start up and occasionally it would misfire too. I took it apart and it was all coked up, cleaned it all out and rebuilt with fresh gaskets and seals then it was perfect again. Mine didn't have the Telestart remote either.
Buying that much car for £2600, I'd say you have massively underspent! :) Maintenance cost isn't too bad for an old, large luxury car, averaged at £1000 per year? Would love to see more about this through your ownership of it. I'd love to have one, but for me the cream/beige/sand interior would be a must-have.
Excellent bargain. Those TDV6's need to be driven a good distance every couple of weeks or so. Keep the tow bar, or you'll be looking at that rash on the bumper every day and it will niggle you until you end up paying to get it sorted. Most people will use the TDV6 for towing anyway, which makes sense with such a high torque motor.
Thanks, I had one a while back, company car , yours looks good, but as always at this age you are often only one major breakdown from becoming a bad buy. Good luck with this one.
Another great vid Matt, I haven’t yet purchased an L322, but I am slowly but surely falling for its charm, would love to see a longer term series on this, lovin the channel fella
Range Rover; looks very good and drives well; only 17 years and 100k miles. The excellent service record is a very positive factor - hopefully previous careful owner will prove that proper maintenance pays off. What could possibly go wrong? Look forward to eventual follow-on video.
HVO will sort out all your injectors & your DPF Matt! Run any of your diesels on it if you can find somewhere that sells it!! Also why don't you carry plastic gloves with you for those filthy nozzles?
That's a lovely L322 Matt! I personally prefer the petrol V8's though. Not even remotely a proper V8 sound of it's a diesel. Like you mentioned these are very torquey so will pull like a train. Only thing about these TDV8's I see more of these diesel V8's for sale for spares or repairs than the M62 or AJV8 for sale. Every time I click on an advert "engine seized" or blown turbos... It's a shame if you sell the black 4.4. keep you with the L322 content though can't beat it! 😀
I am amazed at the price of second hand cars in the UK , so cheap ,,,,,!!! it surely makes a very expensive business buying from new due to the depreciation
I’m convinced it’s better to properly maintain a good used car and change every few years than buying the new boring appliances being pushed at us today. Good video project.
Hi Matt. Please do a video on which automatic runaround to buy between 5k and 10k. Lots of other people asking in comment sections. Also, any advice on potential semi-autos, or is it just a flat out 'avoid'? Thanks.

Nope
The diesel heaters do smoke until they get hot, normal. Leave it on for half an hour, it will show a code if there is a fault. They can be serviced.
The more I watch this channel, the more certain I am that Matt is actually Rick Astley's younger brother
Bahahaha. Good one.
Never gonna give you up ( a JLR product) Never gonna let you down ( definitely a JLR L322) 😂
I'd defo buy a second hand car trailer.. Save you loads on car transportation
You mean my uncle Rick?
They're no strangers...... To love.
Yes you should do a follow up. I would take the towing hitch off and sort out the area of the rear bumper which is damaged because of it.

Reminds me of why I first started following you 4 years ago ! Go the OG Range Rover videos
Great car, I have one the same age. Love it to bits. Sometimes it’s a pain but nothing is nicer to drive. Love the 3.6
This looks like fun Matt.
Lovely cars but the road Tax is a killer.
How much is it?
@alex_ob1 over £700 a year
That's why I won't buy a newer saab ,there 710 ,for a 2.0 turbo ,crazy .
Try SGS Engineering for your gas struts👍
And Miller's Diesel Additive really works wonders.
Good luck with your new purchase. New subscriber. Loving your presentation style. Obviously enthusiastic about the subject matter. 👍🏻
Definitely interested in seeing how this pans out (speaking as a serial 'old' car buyer - Bentley, a couple of SL's etc.)
Great video
Good luck with your new Range
Look forward to the update
Thank you
My Webasto did that on initial start up and occasionally it would misfire too.
I took it apart and it was all coked up, cleaned it all out and rebuilt with fresh gaskets and seals then it was perfect again.
Mine didn't have the Telestart remote either.
Look forward to seeing the finished article
Of course you should do a follow up on this one! Your RR vids are the main reason I watch.
Buying that much car for £2600, I'd say you have massively underspent! :)
Maintenance cost isn't too bad for an old, large luxury car, averaged at £1000 per year?
Would love to see more about this through your ownership of it. I'd love to have one, but for me the cream/beige/sand interior would be a must-have.
Superb stuff as usual Matt, love to see you pick up a P38 and hopefully not massively overspend on it. Better than the L322 in my humble opinion
Your idea of a series following life with the car sounds great.
Can’t wait to watch this later
I am amazed at the price of second hand cars in the UK , so cheap ,,,,,!!! it surely makes a very expensive business buying from new due to the depreciation
Cheap for a reason 😂. It's alright buying them it's running them and keeping them going that is the expensive stuff
Keep the towbar Matt, it's always a handy parking aid.
I’m convinced it’s better to properly maintain a good used car and change every few years than buying the new boring appliances being pushed at us today. Good video project.
That’s a lovely example 🥰 take the tow bar off (unless you’re going to use it) they’re ugly. Look forward to an update 😀👍🏻
Yes follow up please. What about the gearbox and transfer box oils? Did you fix the heated sest and rear roof lining?
Excellent video as always Matt. Looking forward to the follow up video
9:34 that smoke is from the diesel heater, perfectly normal
Looks like a good buy Matt, a follow up video once all your jobs are done would be good.👍
Hello Matt, nice looking Range Rover, looking forward to a follow-up video. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged.
Look forward to part 2
Hi Matt. Please do a video on which automatic runaround to buy between 5k and 10k. Lots of other people asking in comment sections. Also, any advice on potential semi-autos, or is it just a flat out 'avoid'? Thanks.
Yes to the follow up video please!!!
