Update: There is apparently an issue with the battery life with certain models (or possibly all models) of this mini arcade. It loses it's charge within an hour or two of playing after a full recharge. You can keep it plugged up to play but these systems do NOT come bundled with a power adapter. I've now noticed this problem with our unit but I'll keep you all posted if a fix becomes available.

@@siskavard They've already removed their tempest model from being sold so I think it might be a bigger issue than just that. They are still trying to sell the centipedes and have yet to fix it on ones being bought. The tempest thing is funny since it came out first and never sold out but now it's at preorder or something last I checked because they pulled it XD

    • @Fungib1e
      @Fungib1e 5 лет назад +3

A firmware fix has been released and fixes this issue. And no, Centipede was kickstarted before Tempest. Tempest was not pulled as it hasn’t released yet. As of 1/27/19 Tempest is now shipping. This is not a guess, as I have personally kickstarted both.

I picked up an original cocktail cabinet for $10, yes T-E-N American dollars (but wait there’s more) at a garage sale. Was told it made sound but no video. I figured I could take a look at it and if I couldn’t fix it for cheap I would use it as a desk or possibly just part it out. Got it home, opened the top, and reconnected some loose wires. It started right up in all of its neon colored, synth orchestrated glory! The coin box was locked and I almost ave up after an hour or so of trying to get it open. But,! when I did, I found like $6-$8 in coinage.
I love that machine, my body and die became so good that we could easily go on to do a three hour marathon‘s. Unfortunately I had to move and didn’t have room, so it sits in my uncles basement two hours away, but something like this or 1ups 4ft cabinet have been calling my name. Great video bro!

    a few points:
    1) as mentioned, there is a hardware issues with retaining a charge, which cant be fixed, so be aware of that
    2) it's NOT a 1:1 replica, the bezel is wrong, and missing elements, the spacing of the buttons and trackball
is wrong, and not accurate with the arcade version, and of course the scale is wrong on the start buttons
    3) since a mouse uses a ball (unless its optical pad), it is possible to play this just as accurately on a pc,
if you adjust the analog settings in MAME, i've gotten several hundred thousand using a mouse. also there
are plenty of trackball controllers for the PC
    4) its a nice attempt at recreating centipede, but it's most for collectors and for looks. anyone that's good
at the game would never actually use this to play the game due to its scale.
i love centipede, but not $160 worth.

    Rerez,
I love my New Wave Toys Centipede as well, but mine came with a faulty battery. I have to keep it plugged in to play it. It stopped keeping a charge after the first 3 days of having it. You may want to test yours by charging it up, letting it sit for 24 hours, and then trying to turn it on. My battery discharges completely after that amount of time, and on a full charge, I can now only get about 5 minutes of play time before the battery dies. But you may as well not report the problem to New Wave Toys.
Customer service? None that I've seen. I've reached out to New Wave Toys about my battery issue via their trouble ticket process back on September 28th and they still have yet to respond. They provided me an email, confirming that I put in a ticket, along with a link to check on the status. Unfortunately, the link is bogus. If you try to click on the link, it will bring you to their website and ask you to login. Problem is, I've never been asked to create an account. I tried the "forgot password" method, which just returns an error. I tried to create an account using my email address, and it said there was already an account. I even tried creating a new account, but to no avail. As a last ditch effort, I replied to the trouble ticket email, and still have gotten no response.
Don't get me wrong, I still love this little Centipede machine, but I am beyond frustrated with the lack of support to make things right. Unfortunately for me, I backed another one of their mini arcade projects on Kickstarter, a Tempest machine. If this experience is indicative of how they treat their backers, and I don't care how cool their next project is, this will be the last time they'll see another cent from me.
Thanks as always for your great video game content!

Just for note, but analog sticks can accurately translate trackballs. Also, this Centipede mini-arcade looks like it's running MAME4ALL.

    how to make your own
first, grab any old plug and play console
second, grab some cardboard (a ton)
third, get an old small tv
last(for the materials anyway), also get some tape
    assembly
first, cut your pieces into arcade shaped bit
then put em together and cut a hole for your plug and play thingy and tv stick em in there and presto chango you have an arcade game

They have issues, Trackball ic drains battery when stored. They said theres nothing they can do since its soldered on the board, just leave it plugged in . Half Ass fix $160 and it wont charge properly lol

It charges fine, It's just that the IC drains. If your good with electronics, you could easily solder a switch to the battery and use that to disconnect power altogether, that way it does not drain. For the average collector, not much you can do.

Why should you have to add a switch yourself.Probably voids the warranty

That's very, very, true, However I was just stating that that's something you can do about it you have the skill. You're totally right that it shouldn't be something we have to do though. I wonder how it made it past quality control? or Maybe such a small and new company just doesn't have one yet?

I bought one and love it. I emailed New Wave Toys about it and they're sending a cable with instructions to update the firmware to fix this issue. They responded very quickly...within an hour...and were very courteous about it. My bro in law and I have had a great time competing on it. I actually bought another one to give him for Christmas.

Bruh centipede wasn't that bad. It ran good and the only bad thing was the graphics. And even then do graphics matter when the gameplay is the same. And i preferably hated the trackball.
