It’s clearly for right handed people like an rc car controller.
I've never had an RC car with that kind of controller before and I've owned at least 4 or 5 all of the RC cars I had had joysticks that you could only push in One Direction the one on the left being up and down and the one on the right being left and right I did have one that had buttons instead of joysticks but otherwise they we're all identical
Yeah thats a standard rc controller, i dont know if hes figured that out
Came to post this.
The review is kinda unfair because of not taking into account that there is a number of people out there who know and like this type of controller. The bad deadzone might be an issue though.
@TheBlasterGameGuy It seemed to work well in GT, which is all that I'd expect from such a controller. I know Rerez' over-the-top style but I just can't get myself to like someone ripping apart a bad piece of hardware while being oblivious to its origins but instead remaining wondering why it even exists. Makes him look a bit silly in my eyes. But I know, it's for shits n giggles and nobody cares.
This is right handed.
Rc transmitters use the dom hand for steering
It doesn't feel natural though. That's probably why he didn't realize.
both things i wanted to say right there on top of the comments. nice
So you could technically play crash bandicoot, metal gear solid, and kingdom hearts 2 with this controller? Well time to throw away my dual shock.
??? Are you left handed like myself?
Code loyko
yep

@@luigiq2861 Fellow leftie, whaddup 👋
So basically, Mad Catz made a controller out of an RC remote. In this case, you probably haven't got your hands on an RC car in your life, or like forever, hence the Lefty master race design.
Except that's extremely debatable. I think most left handed people would be much more frustrated with this than most right handed people. I think Shane misspoke. After all, if you were left handed, why would you want to use your right hand to do the most precision-needy task on it?
@@awesomeferret Well, I wouldn't say strictly left-handed. A bit ambidextrous, actually. Besides, I don't really have much problem when I own a few RCs with the twisty knob remote. The way to hold the controller was face the knob towards you and you could just twist the knob to turn left or right.
left handed right handed WHAT ABOUT US PEOPLE THAT USE OUR FEET HUH?
I had couple of rc cars as a child but none had a controller like that. They had buttons.
RC remotes have always been designed for right handed people due to that being the majority of people.
Not to mention a left handed RC remote would have everything on the opposite side since it would feel more natural for a left handed person to swivel the wheel back and forth.
I’m glad everyone else has already made the point that you haven’t had experience with an RC remote
Personally, i really like this type of controller. Been driving RC cars for some time, and it feels more natural to steer with right hand.
I know it’s wierd, but it was okay controller to use, for me at least.
Also I’m left handed.
Triangle doesn’t bothered me that much - cause at racers I’ve played it usually was for mapped for some additional functions, like camera switch.
Also it resembles RC cars controller, and I had such club at elementary school, so I was already pretty used to this form.
All the RC cars i had growing up literally just looked like PS1/2 controllers with weird rod things instead of joysticks
Lucky lol i had to get into rc by myself
Do you have no experience with RC cars???
Shane wouldn't know because RC cars don't exist in Canadia. FACT.
Disclaimer: Preceding statement is not fact.
Tempora158 what about ty tessman
it's still very awkward to control. all RC need is a wheel and forward/reverse trigger but in video games with more control options, this is a nightmare.
@@rockncoop665 Hell yeah. He's my fave pro.
If someone can beat Castlevania using a dance pad, surely someone can play through Duke Nukem 3D using that controller. =P
Someone out there can play Tekken 2 with that controller
I saw someone playing Unreal Tournament on DC with the fishing rod.
Looks who's talking
Check the speed running people
They did w h a t ?
I swear someone else reviewed this thing like 4 or 5 years back. Was it Classic Game Room? I miss that channel.
what happened to this channel anyway?? all it have now is some T-shirt commercials
Mark Bussler claimed RUclips stifled his creativity and the monetary side of his channel. He basically disowned his RUclips audience for a new one on amazon. He was the start of this whole trend and now others are following suit. The latter point I made actually has some merit, as over the years, Classic Game Room became overshadowed by a lot of other (garbage) channels, lessening its relevancy as a whole...which was a sad fact. However, I never agreed or supported Mark's sudden and swift hop to amazon. For one, being creative doesn't require a paycheck, but that's debatable. To me, You shouldn't have to have amazon prime to watch his zany reviews and I hardly even use the site to begin with but that may just be my opinion. What is fact is that Mark had global fans and now they can't even support him on amazon even if they wanted to. It was a bold move and it may only work out in the short term. I can only hope it works out in the long term.
I also miss Derek Buck, but luckily he's remained very transparent and active since 2016 on his twitter and facebook.
Apart from the deadzone it looks like a pretty convenient RC style Gran Turismo controller for Right handed people.
I can imagine playing Ratchet: Deadlocked with that thing. It looks more like a weapon than a controller for a racing game.
It looks like a mix of a nail gun and a hair dryer
I've seen these in the past, I always felt like it would be like controlling a RC car the whole time. For RC games it would be great as it would represent what it feels like controlling an RC. For Simulation Racing and Arcade racing....That Varies for my taste.
Would be perfect for RC De Go
They clearly must of looked at RC car controllers and thought this would be a good idea. Problem with this vs rcs, is the fact rcs literally are just driving and turning. Videogames tend to require more buttons. So what seems like a good idea, just ended up being terrible.
Well from your whole video the only important part for people wanting something like this was at the final couple of minutes: The deadzone. This was clearly a controller aiming at players wanting something like a steering wheel but not having the space (or money) to get one. We are not talking about Wipeout or Vigilante, but actual racing games like Gran Turismo, Colin McRay Rally, maybe Ridge Racer, games that you only need a couple of buttons other than gas and brake (change camera and handbrake, maybe gear shifts at worst).
Personally, during the whole video I was expecting you to first try it on an actual car racing game and secondly mention how good/bad was the deadzone.
Also, he never tried it on steering wheel mode, even in Gran Turismo 4 he was using it in dual analog mode, and I'm sure GT4 does support steering wheels.
This kind of controllers need to be supported by the game, the game needs to know there's a steering wheel attached for the controller to work even half decently.
No steering wheel, no matter how good it is, can work well with any game that doesn't explicitly support steering wheels.
TL;DR this review was useless.
“Ruby Ridge Racer” change the meaning of the game by one word
you don't even use that many buttons in most racing games. to try and use it for a car combat game seems unfair. it was clearly meant for traditional racers, not car combat games.
That's not an excuse. That's like saying that you bought a laptop with half the keys swapped in the wrong places and some of them even slightly broken and saying "oh well, I only got this to play games that use only the arrow keys and no mouse!" If it has all of the buttons, they should all feel good to use and be in convenient and natural locations to make playing *any game that uses those buttons* easy and fun to play. If it has the buttons but you can't use them, what's the point of owning it when you could just use your standard dual shock controller which was designed to be easy and ergonomic to use and makes playing *any game* fun and engaging?
Ah yes. Like the couple of traditional racing games he played. In this video.
He even played Grand Turismo.
Rerez briefly mentioned the fact that the custom button settings don't save with the controller after you unplug it or cut power to it. Now consider this: the controller could have worked with an EEPROM to store and load the custom settings for each game. It probably could work. But *the controller also locked up.* Now, if it had that EEPROM, unplugging it wouldn't have reset it! It would be completely *bricked.* This controller is so bad that missing an important feature actually saves it from randomly breaking itself.
Can't believe you've never seen an RC controller before. :)
I like that you try out vintage aftermarket controllers. So many wacky controllers that you don't see anymore. It would be nice if you could get more aftermarket controllers four modern-day video game systems. I hate the fact if I want another controller for my PlayStation 4 I pretty much have only one option.
There is a reason why MadCatz went out of business... this is one of them!
Uhhh, no? It was the Xbox/Mascatz exclusivity that killed them.
its based off on wheel and trigger RC car controllers, which are still our bread and butter in the RC car hobby. I would LOVE to have one of these for a modern console.
This is a great in-depth review.
This would be PERFECT for RC De Go!
I had this controller & my friends hated when I used it... I would always beat them in racing games like Gran Turismo.
I used the program feature to put most used buttons where it was most comfortable.
Mine broke,
I wish I could find it again.
RC cars
I remember the comercials for Vigalante 8: "Vigilante 8. Blow sh!t up!" Of course I don't remember the voiceover calling it "Vigilawntay 8"...
I loved Vigilante 8. I have some fond memories of playing that over the weekend during my youth
MadCatz, Big Ben and Thrustmaster, names that were pretty reliable for 3rd party controllers. As long as they kept it to simply being controllers and not some crazy contraptions like this.
I had an Ultra Racer for the PS1 and it was brilliant for Gran Turismo 1&2.
This was one of the greatest controllers ever made for racing games. Period. I have gutted and modded these to work on PC and xbox360. Currently building a ps4 version.
Uhh I dissagree
@@killerkirby366 lucky for you that's just my opinion. Had it been fact, well then you're just sol.
This brings to light my problems with Madcatz as a whole. Their products were either sub par from the start, or they would begin to malfunction within a month or two of purchase regardless of how well you took care of them.
This looks amazing. Hopefully brookaccsory can add this to the super converter so i can use this on my PS4 and PC.
Vigilante 8, got me right in the childhood with that one. Time to find an emulator
I suspect Steering Wheel mode is just an input wrapper for neGcon compatibility. That means that it would work dramatically better (deadzone perhaps excepting, but that might also not be a huge problem when it's actually in Steering Wheel mode) for any game that supported the neGcon and dramatically worse when it's trying to pretend to be analog sticks. GT4 doesn't support the neGcon, so that's probably why it seemed pretty weird on that as well.
I had a mad catz gamecube controller that caused my gamecube to randomly shut off whenever it was plugged in.
He's back!
I need this for RC De Go!
The hori zerotech is probably the better one of the two.
That controller is a nightmare
This is clearly modelled to be reminicent to an RC controller and yeah as people have said it's actually a right-handed design, as in RC the dominant hand is used for the steering. The difference is, on an RC controller any extra buttons generally aren't things you have to use in motion but are usually used to tweak the settings of the controller or program it, so having them on top isn't an issue.
Mega Man: Battle and Chase must be a nightmare with this thing.
I only use my forefingers for both sets of shoulder buttons/triggers. The top of the controller always feels uncomfortably crowded if I use my forefingers AND middle fingers, and honestly it's easier to hit either button (or both) with one finger resting in between. Even on controllers with triggers.
Me as a lefty, seeing the controller makes me happy I don’t know why
You might be able to turn the wheel with your thumb + ring finger, while using the pointer finger for the L buttons, and the middle finger for the R buttons. I should note, however, that I am assuming the controller was not intended to be pointed forward, but held at an angle, with the controller pointing to the right.
I had one of these and it was awesome. I don't understand why one is not made for current consoles.
I remember madcatz as the early king of unofficial PlayStation accessories.
MadCatz is prob 50% of the off season reasons GameStop was still in business in the PS2 era. Oh... soooooo many in the bins, yet still never tempted unless I wanted a 3rd+ design just for kicks
"Vigilawntee 8"
*Triggered*
You put two fingers on the shoulder buttons? I just put one on them and alternate between the two on each side. Then again, I'm used to using controllers with one shoulder button on each side, like the SNES and N64 controllers.
I wonder if I could essentially set this on its left side so that the steering wheel part is upright and use my right hand on the buttons and trigger. It should work I think
imagine playing re:volt with this controller
A steering wheel for a motorcycle doesn't really work. This controller reminds me of the old RC car controllers.
Madlads
Vigilante 8 is amazing. It should be on that awful PSOne Classic
Rather play Vigilante 8 than Twisted Metal 1.
dario HC they made a neat remake/remaster/reboot of it on ps3 and xbox 360
Kind of reminds me of my old rc car control for my feog and rc 10
Probably the only left handed oriented controller
HKS Racing Controller for the PS3, still tryna get that controller
Rerez SERIOUSLY needs to take a look at the Madcatz L. Y. N. X mobile controllers. They are some of the weirdest controllers i have ever seen that folds and stretches to fit phones and tablets. It looks "interesting", but does NOT look like it would either work well OR be comfortable to hold. I would LOVE for you to do a video on them. I've even seen a silver one called the L.Y.N.X 9, so I'm assuming there are 8 other versions. So there's plenty to look at.
Madcatz did make wonderful wireless original Xbox controllers, that were even smaller than the controller-S that Microsoft put out.
Besides gaming, I mess about a lot with r/c cars, so controlling a racing game with a controller like that would pretty much be second nature to me :) well probably not this specific Madcatz one, but if a company would make one and actually put some research into it...
The did for RC De Go
I loved playing vigilante 8 with a normal human controller not an alien one
Left Handed Master Race!
Looks like the perfect controller for Capcom's Forgotten World.
As a kid I played a PlayStation game called Rc tyco.
Or something like that great game Rc cars yeee.
I would also like to point out that in some modern Rc vehicles there are controllers that are more complicated then this I realize this is just a video and I love the rerez videos.
Either way just wished you would have played the Rc car game with the Rc car controller
I kept hoping you'd mention how it plays re-volt.
Wait whats up with the Renault DeZir in the background
They also made memory cards
Hint: they work
I play a FPS game with xim.mouse+Sony nav. Have you more ideas from my left stick and hand? Everything you can think of as crazy as it may be, I tried tartarus v2 and I didn't like the stick, even an airplane joystick.
you never used one of those old school RC cars, did you?
I had a nunchuck on the left with a mouse on the right for the ps3, think it was from madcats aswel but not sure
1900:MadCatz exists,cheap moms:( ͡o ͜ʖ ͡o) n64
Some people don't know that they think people are just born with just using both hands know you could learn to use your both hands it takes dedication that's it
I wanna see someone play Crash Bandicoot with this thing, lol
IT LOOKS LIKE A CIRCULAR SAW!!!
Real talk, I wanna see something like God of War, Tekken, or even frickin' Bubsy 3D ran with this piece! 🤣👌
I think it's cool looking.
alright MetalJesusRocks, i'm sure he just called you on this...time for a new "I Hate U" episode with this controller playing Doom!
If anyone is interested in purchasing one, I have one, still sealed in the packaging, never used. It comes with a memory card and extension cable for the controller.
I love the odd controller videos, I am wondering if there are any terrible switch controllers.
" don't touch that dial now, we're just getting started"
Its literally an RC Radio as a controller lol
that is a right handed controller based on pistol rc transmitters
you hold it in the left hand and stear with the right (that is why it is called a right handed controller)
Vigil-aunty 8 with my left-handed controller made for righties. Mmmmkayyy
The reason that the triangle button is there because on the DualShock 2 it’s analog.
If you have to that hand that you mostly use you put it behind your back and use your other hand that you don't use until it doesn't feel awkward anymore
It worked pretty good. Especially with Burnout Revenge... while placed on my crotch.
Good times.
As I pro rc racer I can confirm this does resemble a rc remote that’s why I have this profile
As a low life gamer that can only afford console, this seems like it would take a LONG time to get used to that dial thing. My dad may now how to use it well but no casual gamer could deal with this long enough to understand it.
I use both index fingers for l1 and 2 and r1 and 2
This whole review made it pretty clear you've never used a standard RC Car controller lol
Yes my friend yes! I run hobby grade 60mph+ RC cars and this is pretty much the standard controller.
And why should that be a gaming controller
@@weegeewegee639 Because It's the Meta controller IRL
I wonder if someone can beat Klonoa with that controller.
Wow!
It looked so cool!
But it has SO many issues!
Madcatz did have some quality products though!
It reminds me of a GeoTrax remote.
Review a force feedback wheel
Oh shit mad Katz
I have a ripoff xbox360 controller by madcatz the "lb" button broke within the first 30 minutes
datat atat and i have an official ps4 cotroller. It can not run fast in a game without pressing rt or rb. For example. I am able to run fast in fifa. But i am not able to run fast in madden. Up right and up left is also broken. Again. Since it was completly new. Stuff like that can happen to every controller. Mistakes happen in productions
What twisted metal was that?
Looks like a controller made for an alien.
Gotta say I think they were correct with the hand placement, I’d rather hold it with my left hand and use my right hand to turn. Looks like a right handed controller to me, would be awkward using the wheel with my left hand you need the fine tuning your dominant is used too
That thing looks like a futuristic hairdryer.
I need this for XBOX. Its an RC controller
