@@PixelatedH2O if it is scanning or drawing fast enough for persistence of vision it is not sitting on any spot for more than fractions of seconds at a time. But I'm sure at that intensity on static elements of the image could be an issue, if I had to guess. [Cumulative]
Doubtful a painted wall on drywall will catch fire (usually goes out pretty fast, but can be mark or get discolored). I would avoid most wood products. ;)
If it scans slowly, or focus at a point, then it is a laser cutter and will cut through most substrates within a short timeframe.
Just hope there is intensity control setting much like a laser cutter, would crank that down a bit.

Those might actually have roots in weapon R&D programs. This stuff? It's just low power laser diodes and a scanning system that's pretty standard in the laser show industry. It is possible the scanning system has some roots in weapons R&D as well.

"[...] vector graphics without having a vector monitor [...]"
No, the lasercube, like pretty much any similar laser projector is very simular, or even the same as a vector display.
Although in a laser projector you tilt tiny mirrors to move the beam and in a vector display you use electromagnets.
It is still basicly just bending the beam, thus the flickering may occur, beacause if you have a lot of things on the screen,
the slower moving mirrors (slower than a crt beam) just can't keep up and move so fast, that our dumb eyes, thanks to
persistance of vision see it as a full line, but see the actual beam path wich as with any laser projector that doesn't use
a separate laser diode for every part of the screen (wich would be not very efficient), it only can display the same ammount
of dots at a time, as it has actuall lasers.
    [TLDR]
it has only 3 lasers, so it can only display 3 dots at a time, and our dumb eyes, due to a persistance of vision, can blur them
into solid lines, but if there's too much on the screen our eyes can see a part of the beam path that is not currently lit...

Talk about a whole new meaning to the term burn in.. like nexium levels of burn... Definitely the kind of device that you want to leave those static images on so you can have them forever! Talk about a whole new way to print screen! Man this really is a a all-in-one object it does all the things! It's a literal laser printer! Even has basic party crashing functionality, cuz you know what.. sometimes you just got to pop all the balloons and let everybody have a good cry.. it's how you teach kids and getting older ain't no walk in the park.. going to have to learn to live with disappointment.. and they'll get over it soon you know cuz it's like they got a freaking laser.. all their friends only got was robux, and this is where we can find out who's truly a friend or who's about to get burned! Absentee parenting am I right? It's the way, they got to learn themselves you know just let him let him do their thing let him be free don't don't get involved.. but you know buy them things cuz that's that's how you show that you love them and despite not wanting to actually bother with them I'll be around them they need you.. and thus parent!

That is because they use Magnum Lighting for their OEM laser source. They make professional quality lasers of various power levels. If you look at the old LaserDock demos you can see their M-1000 has more true color renditions and less distortion then most of the alternative choices. The same company makes $8000 lasers.

This product is not meant as a gaming system. I think Techmoan did a review on this (might have a competitor, though). His use was for it's intended purpose of providing a laser/light show. The games were just a cool extra.

To be fair, old-school vector displays had the same issue with flicker - and pretty much for the same reason. Atari Star Wars had that problem especially during the crawling text.

    • @JLilliquist

They would flicker but did not have the round corners and gaps issue.

This thing has a ton of potential in the hands of dedicated enthusiasts. New consumer tech really can’t be graded until it’s been properly exploited and as was stated the devs didn’t put a ton of effort into that. But I mean, how many of these things are they gonna sell for casual gamers anyway, so I see their point. Let’s give it a couple more years and see what happens. I don’t plan on buying one anytime soon given the risks....yeesh. We could definitely use a crowdsourced updated Vectrex though.
