A Tempest clone that'll injure you if you don't play it right?
So I guess Polybius is actually a thing now. What an age we live in.
It isn't hard to make a game that hurts your eyes, honestly.
Yeah lmao my eyes hurt after playing a lot pf games
@@TheTheninjagummybear just play a game at lowest settings including resolution, there's a reason i have to update my prescription so often
Send this to Styropyro and have him overclock it. I just can't accept a game of Pong if it doesn't light my walls on fire.
_"I just can't accept a game of Pong if it doesn't light my walls on fire."_
I have no words. I just...I can't even.
@@isaacbailey3681 welcome to the Styropyro Fandom
That sounds FUCKING METAL!!!!!
If the camera can still film properly after the tests, the laser is just too weak
Knowing him, he would probably make it to where it would immediately melt walls.
I can't see anymore 10/10 IGN.
Lol
Ba dum crash
LOL!
3/10 too much photons.
"It has a little something for everyone."
Graphics so "good" it can blind you.
Literally.
Only if you are an idiot and look at the laser projector.
buddhism cockline you can go blind even if you look at the laser projected on the wall

Cannot imagine the burn-in on the wall after a few years of use. :)
This is so cool! Very neon 80s! Rad!
If it's that powerful, forget a few years. It will probably start burning any surface in hours or less.
@@PixelatedH2O if it is scanning or drawing fast enough for persistence of vision it is not sitting on any spot for more than fractions of seconds at a time. But I'm sure at that intensity on static elements of the image could be an issue, if I had to guess. [Cumulative]
Doubtful a painted wall on drywall will catch fire (usually goes out pretty fast, but can be mark or get discolored). I would avoid most wood products. ;)
If it scans slowly, or focus at a point, then it is a laser cutter and will cut through most substrates within a short timeframe.
Just hope there is intensity control setting much like a laser cutter, would crank that down a bit.
Maybe you shouldn't use it on your wall.
A white wall will not do anything even if you try to engrave using this. My other laser is twice the power and still will not. White reflects energy... This is why you would use black balloons to pop them... Just an FYI...
@Saucy Boi I think he's making a CRT joke. All fun I guess.
Virtual Boy: Nobody can hurt your eyes more than me
LaserCube: Hold my vectors
Except with this you have to actively try to hurt yourself with this product, in order to hurt yourself...This product requires stupidity and severe recklessness of some kind, in order to hurt yourself....
R-Zone: Hol' my TTL cartridges, I'll cause a mental disorder
I feel like this could be fairly easily modified into becoming a weapon.
Screw that old rumour of Saddam having a bunch of PS2s, this is more concerning.
You do not even have to do that. It come with built-in engraving mode unlike the original LaserOS.
If you creat emf ball that hold energy insides of it while flying in air like bullet till it hits something boom.
You can modify a lot of things into weapons if you want to
I once made a dangerous laser from a Blu-Ray drive as an experiment
@@Darenz-cg9zg I ma sure the FDA would have nothing to say about THAT!!
It's only one watt of laser power, and two watts in the newest version. Much, much more powerful laser pointers exist and are more practical for nefarious uses, of which the only one is really blinding and disorienting people. Not exactly cutting-edge warfare tools.
It's not a laser, it's a little light bulb that blinks.

That's a classic joke
I wouldn't be surprised if this technology was originally designed to be a weapon.
Your bluray player uses this tech....
@@EricPenn1147 OF COURSE!
THE BLURAY PLAYER WAS DESIGNED TO BE A WEAPON!
Take this nobel prize i must warn the people...
Umm... no. It was made for laser shows. Weaponized lasers are usually pulsed or far, far more powerful. Look at laser cutting machines that can burn through a couple inches of steel. Those might actually have roots in weapon R&D programs. This stuff? It's just low power laser diodes and a scanning system that's pretty standard in the laser show industry. It is possible the scanning system has some roots in weapons R&D as well.
Imagine if Battletoads was on there.....
*Lasertoads*
BUP but with lasers
That would be so hard to play

I wonder if there's an eye surgery simulator 🤣
There are lots of Class IV lasers but most are used in performance venues by license professionals. Many are even more powerful then those used for medical uses.

"[...] vector graphics without having a vector monitor [...]"
No, the lasercube, like pretty much any similar laser projector is very simular, or even the same as a vector display.
Although in a laser projector you tilt tiny mirrors to move the beam and in a vector display you use electromagnets.
It is still basicly just bending the beam, thus the flickering may occur, beacause if you have a lot of things on the screen,
the slower moving mirrors (slower than a crt beam) just can't keep up and move so fast, that our dumb eyes, thanks to
persistance of vision see it as a full line, but see the actual beam path wich as with any laser projector that doesn't use
a separate laser diode for every part of the screen (wich would be not very efficient), it only can display the same ammount
of dots at a time, as it has actuall lasers.
[TLDR]
it has only 3 lasers, so it can only display 3 dots at a time, and our dumb eyes, due to a persistance of vision, can blur them
into solid lines, but if there's too much on the screen our eyes can see a part of the beam path that is not currently lit...
If i was wrong about anything, feel free to comment below
"Too much tellavision will damage you eyes"

I love how it looks, maybe it would be better if through a normal projector I would add a specific background for each game, how would the Vectrex overlays go and even go one step further and be animated.
Skyrim on the Lasercube when?
But can it run Crysis?
[Skyrim opens with an Imperial wagon driving four prisoners down a snowy
mountain pass. All are seated and bound; the one dressed in finery is gagged.]
Ralof: Hey, you. You're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border,
right? Walked right into that Imperial ambush, same as us, and that
thief over there.
Lokir: Damn you Stormcloaks. Skyrim was fine until you came along. Empire was
nice and lazy. If they hadn't been looking for you, I could've stolen
that horse and been half way to Hammerfell. You there. You and me -- we
should be here. It's these Stormcloaks the Empire wants.
Ralof: We're all brothers and sisters in binds now, thief.
Imperial Soldier: Shut up back there!
[Lokir looks at the gagged man.]
Lokir: And what's wrong with him?
Ralof: Watch your tongue! You're speaking to Ulfric Stormcloak, the true High
King.
Lokir: Ulfric? The Jarl of Windhelm? You're the leader of the rebellion. But if
they captured you... Oh gods, where are they taking us?
Ralof: I don't know where we're going, but Sovngarde awaits.
Lokir: No, this can't be happening. This isn't happening.
Ralof: Hey, what village are you from, horse thief?
Lokir: Why do you care?
Ralof: A Nord's last thoughts should be of home.
Lokir: Rorikstead. I'm...I'm from Rorikstead.
[They approach the village of Helgen. A soldier calls out to the lead wagon.]
Imperial Soldier: General Tullius, sir! The headsman is waiting!
General Tullius: Good. Let's get this over with.
Lokir: Shor, Mara, Dibella, Kynareth, Akatosh. Divines, please help me.
Ralof: Look at him, General Tullius the Military Governor. And it looks like
the Thalmor are with him. Damn elves. I bet they had something to do
with this.
This is Helgen. I used to be sweet on a girl from here. Wonder if Vilod
is still making that mead with juniper berries mixed in. Funny...when I
was a boy, Imperial walls and towers used to make me feel so safe.
[A man and son watch the prisoners pull into town.]
Haming: Who are they, daddy? Where are they going?
Torolf: You need to go inside, little cub.
Haming: Why? I want to watch the soldiers.
Torolf: Inside the house. Now.
I hope we get an official port of "Sun Scorcher" from "Penn and Teller's Smoke and Mirrors" for Sega CD for this console. This may be the only modern console that can run it properly.
Instructions unclear....MY HOUSE IS ON FIRE! D:
Christmas Story 2021:
Kid: "I want a class 4 laser based action gaming system that also engraves things like walls and wallets and features a dual key interlock!"

exactly what they wanted!!
Every single time, the joke gets more and more skewered.
I hope this could emulate any Vectrex games.
Leonard Greenland I thought I saw a few Vectrex games at the start of the video...
Honestly, looking back at it, I feel like they would be well served by just using a weaker laser. The image wouldn't be nearly as sharp, but it would be much less dangerous.
Dude this looks awesome.
Pretty damn unique edit.. I'd love to see classic Mario on this lol
Even if it's potentially dangerous to use, this device gives the games a cool art style. It'd be nice to have other games that had this same neon aesthetic.
The thumbnail is priceless.
Maaan, I don't care for the weird angles, soft edges, and the wiggly and unfinished lines, they look absolute unique and awesome. Really makes this look different from anything else, and I much else prefer it that way, than to have it look like a projected image. This is cool!
That’s a lethal weapon!
The right word for this is nifty. Give it a few good years and a handful of passionate people and I can totally see myself projecting this on the side of a house
Brandon Romero are we just going to forget that you aren’t supposed to use these outdoors
and accidentally get people blind
They have outdoor Christmas decorations that use lasers for graphics, they don't seem to blind anyone
It still looks very colorful and vibrant, with the little shaky looking beams, gives another cool cartoonish retro draw style that never gets old, simply amazing yet dangerous!
You reminded me of missile commander. Used to love that game. Which led me to find the game "missiles". Which I also forgot about and enjoy thoroughly.
So... is it safe to say that the LaserCube is like a spiritual-successor to the Vectrex?
I think in order for something to be a spiritual successor to the Vectrex, it needs a screen.
I get where you're coming from. Not to mention, a spiritual-successor wouldn't have the capabilities of literally blinding you (and burning your skin too). *NERV* *Agent* mentioned that if you buy a LaserCube, you would have to also get a pair of safety goggles.
It's safe to say, but not so safe to use.
Oh, that's a good one, lol.
This is like something you would see in a 80s movie where they try to make the game look high tech and amazing. Like year 3000 graphics
I guess you could say that they were using cutting edge technology!
Okay, I'll see myself out now!
"LOL imma firin muh lazorz"
😂
Thanks for the video. Been researching the capabilities of lasers to repo vector displays for my Solaroids game project. I can see that the number of lines is very limited on this cube, and probably all but the faster 90k pps laser parts costing several thousands of dollars.
This reminds me a device that I tried to design many years ago, which is basically a VGA monitor with laser display(I never finished it though).
I tried to design it kinda like CRT(which moves beam quickly to make raster image) back in the day, but this one looks more like a vector display.
It's a XY scanner as 20K pps.
This is what people in the 80s thought the future would look like.
Haven't heard that brand in a long time since the early Kipkay days. And they still sell the LaserSaber after all of these years!
The world's first truly immersive 2 in 1 gaming experience available; you can have epileptic seizures while going blind simultaneously
Honestly I'd want one now just for that laser engraving. I could totally see myself laser engraving decals onto my PC case.
It's amazing how clean the lines look!
That is because they use Magnum Lighting for their OEM laser source. They make professional quality lasers of various power levels. If you look at the old LaserDock demos you can see their M-1000 has more true color renditions and less distortion then most of the alternative choices. The same company makes $8000 lasers.
The rhythm game looks closer to Groove Coaster then DDR tbh
This is the stuff 80’s sci-fi writers have been waiting for
I always wanted a system that would vaporize me. That's next level interaction! 😂
Dude your thumbnails keep getting funnier and funnier
With proper protection and being in a controlled environment this thing is incredible
This definitely reminds me of my Vectrex game system, including simpler adaptations of several of the games for that system (e.g., the Bedlam clone near the end).
I actually love the hand drawn aesthetic
That Famicorner T-shirt from GameDave though. All hail GameDave!
I think we'd need a safe version of the laser display before it could get popular.
Nice. (Nice video and product)
This is the future of gaming... And it looks radical
This would be neat in a controlled environment with supervision like in a museum or something
This is amazing for a first try can't wait for them to improve this tech
I hope that one day, somebody will make a similar product, yet with a safer technology. It looks super awesome.
I love the shirt! Giving some love to Game Dave!
Ah... This genuinely takes me back to the days of the Vectrex. ...Which could also damage your eyes, come to think of it.
Rerez's slow decent into madness
The thumbnail is making me hard to sleep
*Rerez is like : HOPE YOU SLEEP WELL*
It is like really cool but dangerous. Perfect.
It would be fun to see what could be done with multiple units at the same time.
I like the hand draw look of the graphics
Okay this is kinda neat! had to figure the best games on this thing were all inspired by vector arcade games.
Honestly, i rather call it the vectrex color
your thumbnail's epic, i watched the video specifically because of it. 😃
To be fair, old-school vector displays had the same issue with flicker - and pretty much for the same reason. Atari Star Wars had that problem especially during the crawling text.
They would flicker but did not have the round corners and gaps issue.
People in 1980: We will have flying cars in the future!
2019: Play Pong in lasers.
Also a ps4, ps3 and xbox360 controller works fine... And ipega ones also
That tank one is scorched earth
Man, imagine the future where there might be the possibility of something like Geometry Wars on something like this.
The rhythm game seems far more reminiscent of Groove Coaster (probably my favorite rhythm game). Seems neat
Oh wow it can pop balloons. I'm *so glad this is a toy that was actually allowed to release.*
These have been around for over 20 years... This is just a new model with LOWER power and scanning PPS.
Well that was fun. Of course all "graphical" cons can be explained by physics and mechanics of laser emitter(s).
genuinely cool & unique
Styropyro would love this
This cube might need a wall saver to stop burn in
The future of gaming!
Just imagine a full SMB game on there that would be awesome
Scorched Earth might be fun on here. I think Doom would be too, but for the flickering.
God the laser cube is so fucking badass. Much like a gun you'll have to take alot of safety precautions before you can actually use one with it literally projecting lasers.
Very very cool
It would be very cool if it would had a demo that takes full advantage of system like "pets not allowed" for commodore pet
"Ooh, pretty!"
"Yes, things that can kill you often are."
This is Low key kind of dope
