New LASER Power Record on my LPM?!? | LaserCube Ultra 750K Subs Special

  • Time to beat my all-time laser power record! The latest and largest LaserCube should be the strongest laser I have ever tested. I will use a laser power meter and spectrometer to hopefully verify its specs.
    I will also open it up to see its inner workings and figure out the laser beam paths inside it. Quite complicated! This also means I can include instructions on how to open it up - for example to change the rechargeable battery after years of use. Perhaps the first time this has been published?
    Anyway, this was meant as something special to celebrate reaching 750,000 subscribers! Thank you so much!

    Thanks for the shout out! Looks like the laser head might be manufactured by OPT. Very glad to see that there is a glass plate installed in front of your reds. Those are probably open can and I have seen those glass plates be a savior for open can reds. That is a bit of power in a nice little box. I don't recognize the galvos, any markings on them/the amp?
    Excellent video, and review!
    Oh, one interesting thing to try with your higher power laser. Hang a black piece of thin fabric up and can the laser on it with a pattern. You should clearly hear the laser firing on the fabric from 2 foot away!

    • @Zenodilodon
      @Zenodilodon Год назад +6

      Also, a slight correction to your understanding of the lenses. You're partially correct, however the fast axis correction is normally on the laser diode, I think they are on your reds. The 3 optics after the laser diode/FAC that you see kind of work like this. The first lens is there to allow correction by shifting the collimating point and angle of the laser beam on the horizontal axis. The last 2 lenses are the collimating lenses, one for horizontal and one for vertical. Since the focal point of the horizontal output has been shifted the collimating lenses per axis can be done with lenses in different spaces from the laser diode. This break of the 2 axis allows for various trade offs like having a thinner fast axis for the knife edge mirrors with I think slightly more divergence VS the slow having a wider beam at the start but lower divergence overall. With cylindrical lenses the real trick is to think of a single laser is behaving like 2 independent ones in the same space, or at least is does for me. It's actually astonishing how well these lenses collimate multimode lasers diodes. I might be a fan of good old spherical lenses, but they limitations in flexibility.

    Damn this laser must have the same diode that is used in the handheld sanwu striker 7.5W model that is only 450$ USD. Its one hell of a beast.

    I think at this power level, safety goggles should look like ski goggles so light can't enter from the sides.

      That would add some safety, though they are rated for much, much stronger lasers. Thanks for the early watch!

      @@brainiac75 They're no good if the glass from the goggles isn't actually in the path of the light, even if rated at higher energies. You're the expert, so I don't need to explain it to you, but at 7.5W+, just looking at the (stationary) spot on a white background can be harmful ("indirect or non-specular reflections of the beam" and "as a result of direct, diffuse or indirect beam viewing").
