Great tutorial - as yours always are! One thing worth adding is that there's a hidden setting so that b-roll clips automatically go full screen, rather than needing adjusting. It's buried in the cog-wheel top right and then in "preferences" and then in "fill style for PIP". Set that to "fill" and then there's no need to resize b-roll....
Hi does vn show editing time on Mac? Like how long you’ve been editing?
Thankyou I was getting so sick of adding photos and getting the blurry border, that helped heaps cheers
This tutorial is so so so good. Such high quality content! Thank you so much for this tutorial. Much love to you and your team 💕
So awesome to hear it! You're welcome! 😊
😊@@PrimalVideo
I just posted my first video that I edited with VN Video Editor. It was a basic 4 minute video that I used pieces of 5 short videos. This tutorial was key in helping me do it without losing my mind or giving up. Thanks!
Man, I literally loved the tutorial. Just so simple and to the point. Loved it
Awesome - glad you enjoyed it 😊
It’s amazing how powerful this VN is .. and what is the next stage is even more interesting
I've tried different video editing apps and vn is my favorite just cuz it's super user friendly. Thank you for these videos they have helped a ton on getting started with RUclips!
That's awesome to hear, Amy! All the best on your channel! 👍
I normally use capcut to edit but I think I like this already, I’ll give it a trial. My problem now is adding the music to my videos, I already got copyright claim on my first RUclips video because I used the music that came with the app( didn’t know I wasn’t suppose to use it🤧). Now I tried using the epidemic sound and RUclips music free trial to see how it works first before I start paying, it’s not working 😩😩 Help I’m confused!!
@@Dele_Ps_Advice this was helpful, thanks!
JUST SAME!!!!
I totally agree with you. VN is simple to use but can produce a high quality edit
I love the way you direct to the point. No gibberish or blabling non related talk at all. Thank you so much. 🙏
You're welcome - great to hear that 😊
Thank you so much❤
I have also started my own RUclips channel and uploaded a video after editing on VN App after watching this video😊
Fantastic! Best of luck with your RUclips channel! Glad the video helped with your editing! 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
That was one of the best structured tutorials I have watched. Thank you!
Wow, thanks - so awesome to hear it 😊
Thank you Justin, what a tutorial. Good fast pace, concise, thorough and with a progress bar below the tutorial. And it is free! Much appreciated.
You're welcome - glad you enjoyed it. Cheers! 😊
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I'd switched from an aging Windows PC to an iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard combo as my main "laptop" and your tutorial has really helped me get up to speed with editing on the iPad. I'm able to continue making videos for my channel now :) Thank youu
You're welcome - great to hear that 😃
Of the the greatest tutorial, no gibberish, everything to the point 👍👍
Justin always giving the real deal. Explained with not a glitch. Thank you 😊
Really appreciate the comment Anna! 🙏
Many thanks Justin for this helpful tutorial. I have 2 questions for VN Video Editor on Macbook: 1. how to set exact duration for a photo clip instead of dragging the edge of the clip in timeline 2. On the iPad version I can easily insert animated stickers by just clicking the Insert Stocks/Sticker button, but on the Mac version, after clicking the same button nothing happens, can't find these stickers anymore. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
I like the fact that you're straight forward with your explanations. It's very easy and simple to follow you through. Keep it up. Don't stop.
Thanks - so awesome to hear it 😊
I just started using VN and this tutorial was absolutely perfect. Thank you Primal Videos
You're welcome - glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Thanks justin! Loved your tutorials! Really love how you explain everything
You're welcome - see you on the next video! 😊
That was brilliant Justin! Very timely so thank you. (I have a question about the repurposing a clip but don't want that to be a distraction from the main goal so will tap you/someone up about that in the group another time!!). Cheers. Colin
You're welcome - glad you like it! 👍
Thank you so much, Justin! I have just edited my first video ever and I'm really thinking in crediting you in the end. Those tips were awesome. You've made it seem so easy. Thanks a lot! It was huge for me, man.
You’re welcome - so awesome to hear it! 😃
Thank you. Very educational. I'm struggling to figure out which video editor actually has the features I need. There has to be a better way than individually testing each one.
Love you guys , this is what I exactly wanted 🤗
Awesome - glad you made it here, Joshua! 😊
I tried DaVinci Resolve and it’s super advanced and I do think some things don’t need to be so isolated. Like the fact that VN has the magnetic overall feature makes it so much user friendly and I don’t know maybe I can’t use DaVinci Resolve but I couldn’t find a feature like that. Also when I tried to add text like the footage would freeze. Like every clip that had text would freeze it was so annoying. Lastly some of my footage got distorted in the process of rendering and that was the hammer on the nail. I had to take a week off editing for my mental health 🙃 I had to try and save that video 8 times because it told me at a time which clips where distorted. Like it couldn’t just make a pop list of which clips couldn’t save. Each time I thought okay now I can save it. Nope. Wow. So tomorrow I was going to start editing again and I am DEFINITELY trying this one. It looks user friendly and seamless. Thank you so much Justin and your team for these videos. This lowkey film school for RUclipsrs!
I like that, keep going! Never stop trying until you get to what works best for you. Hope the editing goes well! 😊
Thank you so much for your amazing videos! I published my channel this week and the Primal Video recommendations and tutorials like this one were awesome to help me get started!
As a person with a mac laptop and an android phone, this video was timely to find. The tutorial here is awesome. Well done. I have some work to do.
So awesome to hear it! 😃
Thank you Justin. I have tried Power Director and Kinemaster, and the layout with VN seems far more logical and intuitive. For basic editing, do you think this is the best? Also do you know when it will be available for Windows?
Well, it's best if you keep practicing to get better in using it. Whichever editor you use you can always maximize the features it has to offer. 😊
Having transferred about 37 video8 tapes to digital I tested several free video editors both on windows and Macbook OS and never quite found an easy way to edit them. Until you presented VN editor, that is. It is really quick and fairly simple to use. For home video it is the best, imo👍and your tutorials are great. Thanks!
One Q: my recordings are mono, one channel only. I would like to enable to duplicate the sound track to both channels. Iss this possible?
I can't find VN for windows. So what can you advise?
@@gorkaurzelai5072 gave up using windows for video as it was never really stable..but you have a built in video editor in win10
I’ve been looking for tutorial like this. Thank you so much Justin! Great job!👍👍👍
Glad you made it here! You're welcome! 👍
I started my channel and i use kinemaster to edit...i still have alot to learn but i think it has a learning curve to it...seeing this video gives me hope that my channel will do better with learning another editing app and how much easier it seems...good luck to everyone on their new youtube channel journey...we got this!!!!

Hi Justin, thanks for this tutorial. I downloaded the app onto my android phone based on your editor of the year video. I'd like to ask how we can implement a little animated subscribe button to appear at the beginning? Do we use templates or just a title? I'd like to add a subscribe button with my thumbnail on it. How do we do that? Thanks!! 😊
Your video saved my time, I was struggling with Davinci, thank you so much! I just uploaded my first with VN! I appreciate your effort in this video!
You're welcome - cheers on your first uploaded video! 😊
You make it easy! Thanks for your thoroughness and attention to detail! Your lessons are appreciated. Cheers
So glad to hear that, cheers! 😊 - Hazel, PV Team
Great, helpful video! Thanks. The only thing I haven’t been able to figure out is when I have 2 or 3 separate video clips that I want to combine into 1 video, there are no plus signs between each clip so I can’t add a transition between them. I add them in the order I want them but can’t add a transition between them to make them flow better. What am I doing wrong?
even im not getting the plus sign at many places
:(
same issue here..
yep same here . not even going to watch this video all the way through.
Hi Justin, Love your content thank you for sharing this with the community ! One quick question on VN edtitor : I could not find how you can extract just a clip from the timeline. I'd like to be ableo to have a full video and then "slice" it in pieces for social media. Is there an easy way to cut out bites from VN timeline ?
Watch your previous video on free video editing and I have to say the VN has been absolutely brilliant. So easy to use but now after watching this I’ve learned a few more things thank you very much it has made my life a lot easier video editing and making my videos really stand out👍
You're welcome - all the best with your edits 👍
Thank you for this. I get frustrated with editing and you really helped me learn a better way.
You're welcome - good luck with your edits 😊
Update March 2022:
Aside from the few annoying things about using VN its still my go to video editor and much much better than iMovie. I have used to make several amazing videos and there are a lot of great tools that I discover the more I use it. Just hope they could iron out the frustrating components mentioned below.
----------
After playing around with this tool, the big downside to VN video editor for Mac for me is the following:
1. You cannot sort your imported media by what you already used in your timeline like you can with filmora or almost any video editing tool.
2. If you are working with a lot of clips and already added many to your timeline there is no check mark, bar or similar that shows you that you already used the clip. This together with no being able to sort makes it very hard to know what you already used in your timeline.
3. When you import media it will create duplicates of clips already imported. This is bad if you are working with hundreds of images and clips. In Filmora or iMovie clips that are already in your media stash wont import and therefore wont create dozens of duplicate clips.
4. Dragging clips to the timeline is hit or miss. Sometimes the clip will drag down to the timeline and sometime nothing will happen. Whats even more frustrating is that while you are trying to drag the clip to the timeline it will instead open in full screen requiring you to hit the esc button and try again and again. Unfortunately there is no keyboard shortcut to add a clip to the end of the timeline.
Overall its quite a frustrating tool. It took me twice the amount of time to create a 15 minute video in VN than it did in Filmora.
I feel like I’m the only one who read your whole comment @reln72
@@aanya_edits i also read the whole comment.
very good comments - thank you
@@KimchimanInSeoul I agree it is a great tool. I use it often. I've updated my comment.
Great tutorial Justin! I am creating a slideshow with music of about 60 jpgs. I would like to know if I can change all to 2 seconds, down from the default 3.5 seconds. Or do I need to adjust each one manually?
U can there’s a video on it , u change it from the presences page and apply to all photos
Your videos are invaluable and I appreciate all of your hard work! I'm researching how to start up my channel and your videos are so helpful!
Thanks, so awesome to hear that. All the best 👍
Trying to get my first text to speech video with no video footage just a screenshot. This was by far the best tutorial vid.
Can't get VN to upload anything, fails everytime !
Oh gosh. That’s literally why I’m on this video 😅 I was using the free app / video editor called InShot, but the export fails every time! My first 3 videos were fine, but the 4th one won’t export no matter what I do. So now I’m wanting to switch apps to VN Video Editor. Did you figure out why your video fails??
This is good if you are using on a big screen or a computer. I tried to use on my smartphone, and it´s rather difficult to adjust the right point I want to cut or trim a clip, because the arrows on the screen are too small for the fingers and there´s no keyboard attached to my phone, so that I can precisely trim at the correct point. I tried to sync a recording I made with my smartphone with the external audio I captured with an external audio recorder just to have a better sound. Synchronize them is a pain, we don´t see the exact 2 places to let them be perfectly aligned. So, for just cut some clips it´s fine, but to use professionaly on a smartphone, far away from a computer is a pain.
All new to me, and I agree. I think would be better on laptop or PC as everything is very tight on phone.
@@manorhouse3556 And there's a serious problem with this editor: We can't raise the audio volume level for more than 100% which is the actual volume. If I have a video clip with a very low audio, I can't boost it to 400% ou 800% to match the correct volume ( at least on a smartphone, no option beyond 100% ). Nor landscape option to choose interface... Terrible !!!
Awesome tutorial, followed it step by step, made my first video last night with just the footage on my phone, which was not intended to be a video, but that is all I had and did a few amazing things. Thanks guys
That's cool! You're welcome! 😊
@@PrimalVideo Just a thought, it would have been really great if you had edited the actual video so we could see how you did it, but all your videos are great. Thanks, Justin

Thank you for this wonderful tutorial, this is the only one worth watching for me as I didn't learn anything from other tutorials. I'm able to do lot of stuff in half an hour starting from scratch. One feature I don't see is the speed icon, should it be in the menu where crop delete etc are as I don't see speed over there. Its a very important feature I want to learn it.

Which one of my friends who is a vlogger suggested me to install this app since I’m started to create a toy related RUclips channel..
You're welcome! Hope the editing goes well! 😊
Hello Justin!
i'm a new viewer here and just wanted to thank you for your vivid help. I took extensive notes from this. I'm trying to get back into content creating after taking a long hiatus and I'm trying to brush up on my editing skills after not editing for so long. I have VN on my iPhone but wanted to have it on my Mac because I'm doing still image videos and needed to download enough audio and videos from the internet and my phone doesn't have the storage for that. I also plan to record my own audio and edit it on my computer as it's easier and clearer to do so.
I will be returning to you anytime I need more help, if that's fin with you :).
It's so hard to stay motivated as a content creator especially when you don't have much of an audience or budget but I'm remaining optimistic.
Thank you again ^>^!
You're welcome, all the best with your channel 👍 - Hazel, PV Team

I'm a real beginner at video editing, and since I upgraded my iMac to Monterey from El Capitan, iMovie, (which I thought was great for my needs), doesnt work properly, freezes, or painfully slow, or both, so tried a couple of others and so far this looks like the best...in my limited opinion. Though it looks different on my screen, (is that an ugrade?), but hopefully everything there. Thanks for the tutorial.

Hi Justin! Your tutorial is really speeding up my learning curve, thanks! Question, on my macbook, the "motion" icon doesn't appear when I select b roll and therefore cannot insert b roll transitions. Is this a mac problem or have they changed the interface since your video? Anyone else with this problem?
Justin, when adding music, is it easy to change in case a mistake is made? Say the volume is too loud or you want to pick a different song?
