Great tutorial - as yours always are! One thing worth adding is that there's a hidden setting so that b-roll clips automatically go full screen, rather than needing adjusting. It's buried in the cog-wheel top right and then in "preferences" and then in "fill style for PIP". Set that to "fill" and then there's no need to resize b-roll....
I just posted my first video that I edited with VN Video Editor. It was a basic 4 minute video that I used pieces of 5 short videos. This tutorial was key in helping me do it without losing my mind or giving up. Thanks!
I've tried different video editing apps and vn is my favorite just cuz it's super user friendly. Thank you for these videos they have helped a ton on getting started with RUclips!
I normally use capcut to edit but I think I like this already, I’ll give it a trial. My problem now is adding the music to my videos, I already got copyright claim on my first RUclips video because I used the music that came with the app( didn’t know I wasn’t suppose to use it🤧). Now I tried using the epidemic sound and RUclips music free trial to see how it works first before I start paying, it’s not working 😩😩 Help I’m confused!!
I started my channel and i use kinemaster to edit...i still have alot to learn but i think it has a learning curve to it...seeing this video gives me hope that my channel will do better with learning another editing app and how much easier it seems...good luck to everyone on their new youtube channel journey...we got this!!!!
Same here... I used Kinemaster for my videos but I would like to try VN app also later on.But for now my paid subscription still belongs with Kinemaster.
That was brilliant Justin! Very timely so thank you. (I have a question about the repurposing a clip but don't want that to be a distraction from the main goal so will tap you/someone up about that in the group another time!!). Cheers. Colin
I tried DaVinci Resolve and it’s super advanced and I do think some things don’t need to be so isolated. Like the fact that VN has the magnetic overall feature makes it so much user friendly and I don’t know maybe I can’t use DaVinci Resolve but I couldn’t find a feature like that. Also when I tried to add text like the footage would freeze. Like every clip that had text would freeze it was so annoying. Lastly some of my footage got distorted in the process of rendering and that was the hammer on the nail. I had to take a week off editing for my mental health 🙃 I had to try and save that video 8 times because it told me at a time which clips where distorted. Like it couldn’t just make a pop list of which clips couldn’t save. Each time I thought okay now I can save it. Nope. Wow. So tomorrow I was going to start editing again and I am DEFINITELY trying this one. It looks user friendly and seamless. Thank you so much Justin and your team for these videos. This lowkey film school for RUclipsrs!
Thank you so much, Justin! I have just edited my first video ever and I'm really thinking in crediting you in the end. Those tips were awesome. You've made it seem so easy. Thanks a lot! It was huge for me, man.
Having transferred about 37 video8 tapes to digital I tested several free video editors both on windows and Macbook OS and never quite found an easy way to edit them. Until you presented VN editor, that is. It is really quick and fairly simple to use. For home video it is the best, imo👍and your tutorials are great. Thanks! One Q: my recordings are mono, one channel only. I would like to enable to duplicate the sound track to both channels. Iss this possible?
I started using vn editor app when i started my tube content starter you can see i didnt know how to edit videos properly but because of justin i am able to edit videos properly and the way i want
Update March 2022: Aside from the few annoying things about using VN its still my go to video editor and much much better than iMovie. I have used to make several amazing videos and there are a lot of great tools that I discover the more I use it. Just hope they could iron out the frustrating components mentioned below. ---------- After playing around with this tool, the big downside to VN video editor for Mac for me is the following: 1. You cannot sort your imported media by what you already used in your timeline like you can with filmora or almost any video editing tool. 2. If you are working with a lot of clips and already added many to your timeline there is no check mark, bar or similar that shows you that you already used the clip. This together with no being able to sort makes it very hard to know what you already used in your timeline. 3. When you import media it will create duplicates of clips already imported. This is bad if you are working with hundreds of images and clips. In Filmora or iMovie clips that are already in your media stash wont import and therefore wont create dozens of duplicate clips. 4. Dragging clips to the timeline is hit or miss. Sometimes the clip will drag down to the timeline and sometime nothing will happen. Whats even more frustrating is that while you are trying to drag the clip to the timeline it will instead open in full screen requiring you to hit the esc button and try again and again. Unfortunately there is no keyboard shortcut to add a clip to the end of the timeline. Overall its quite a frustrating tool. It took me twice the amount of time to create a 15 minute video in VN than it did in Filmora.
Many thanks Justin for this helpful tutorial. I have 2 questions for VN Video Editor on Macbook: 1. how to set exact duration for a photo clip instead of dragging the edge of the clip in timeline 2. On the iPad version I can easily insert animated stickers by just clicking the Insert Stocks/Sticker button, but on the Mac version, after clicking the same button nothing happens, can't find these stickers anymore. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Great, helpful video! Thanks. The only thing I haven’t been able to figure out is when I have 2 or 3 separate video clips that I want to combine into 1 video, there are no plus signs between each clip so I can’t add a transition between them. I add them in the order I want them but can’t add a transition between them to make them flow better. What am I doing wrong?
Thank you Justin. I have tried Power Director and Kinemaster, and the layout with VN seems far more logical and intuitive. For basic editing, do you think this is the best? Also do you know when it will be available for Windows?
Hi Justin, thanks for this tutorial. I downloaded the app onto my android phone based on your editor of the year video. I'd like to ask how we can implement a little animated subscribe button to appear at the beginning? Do we use templates or just a title? I'd like to add a subscribe button with my thumbnail on it. How do we do that? Thanks!! 😊
This is good if you are using on a big screen or a computer. I tried to use on my smartphone, and it´s rather difficult to adjust the right point I want to cut or trim a clip, because the arrows on the screen are too small for the fingers and there´s no keyboard attached to my phone, so that I can precisely trim at the correct point. I tried to sync a recording I made with my smartphone with the external audio I captured with an external audio recorder just to have a better sound. Synchronize them is a pain, we don´t see the exact 2 places to let them be perfectly aligned. So, for just cut some clips it´s fine, but to use professionaly on a smartphone, far away from a computer is a pain.
@@manorhouse3556 And there's a serious problem with this editor: We can't raise the audio volume level for more than 100% which is the actual volume. If I have a video clip with a very low audio, I can't boost it to 400% ou 800% to match the correct volume ( at least on a smartphone, no option beyond 100% ). Nor landscape option to choose interface... Terrible !!!
Hi Justin, Love your content thank you for sharing this with the community ! One quick question on VN edtitor : I could not find how you can extract just a clip from the timeline. I'd like to be ableo to have a full video and then "slice" it in pieces for social media. Is there an easy way to cut out bites from VN timeline ?
Great tutorial Justin! I am creating a slideshow with music of about 60 jpgs. I would like to know if I can change all to 2 seconds, down from the default 3.5 seconds. Or do I need to adjust each one manually?

@@PrimalVideo Just a thought, it would have been really great if you had edited the actual video so we could see how you did it, but all your videos are great. Thanks, Justin
Thank you for this tutorial, am a noob but I was able to edit my video in minutes. The software is also very easy to understand. It's good enough for me, I don't need anything other features.
You're welcome - well done! 👍

This is the best damn free video software tutorial I've ever seen. Thanks so much. I use canva and it doesn't allow a smooth transition for frames. 🥰🥰🥰❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
You're welcome - glad you enjoyed the tutorial 😊
Thank for sharing this!
Because I installed VN on my iPad and android phone.. last year
Which one of my friends who is a vlogger suggested me to install this app since I’m started to create a toy related RUclips channel..
You're welcome! Hope the editing goes well! 😊
