Great tutorial! I will add it to our tutorials page. At 23:05, all the clips on the video track moved when you dropped to the audio track because you have the "Ripple All Tracks" turned on - se the Timeline menu option or the (*) icon on the toolbar and the video track is not locked. This option is intended to keep things across tracks in sync as you make edits. It is off by default, but this trips up a lot of people. Also, be aware that the 32-bit version has been discontinued as that is too memory limited for today's world of HD and up video.

Excellent Shotcut tutorial for beginners! Great work, Kevin!
I'll add one very important tip for future users. If your project is ever lagging a lot when editing there are two options under "settings" that take care of it. One is "preview scaling" which cuts down the lag that happens after adding filters and the other is "proxy" that makes lower resolution copies of your videos that are easier to edit with in case your original video files are also giving you lag. If you use both "preview scaling" and "proxy" at the same time it'll cut down on lag from all possible angles.

    • @colesparrow8144

Great tutorial (like all of your tutorials):
    Questions and observations:
-- Can you mark a time on the timeline, or mark a frame on the timeline?
In other words, is there a way to tag locations, based either on time or on content, so that you can easily go to those points on your timeline?
    For example:
Can you tag / mark the 2:18 time in the video (so that you do not have to remember that time for something you need to get back to)?
Can you tag / mark a specific frame, such that the tag (or mark) will stay glued to that frame as you move that media around during your editing? This would be useful if you want to make changes to that section, but do not want to lose track of it as you are moving things around.
-- Can you click (or step), frame by frame, in order to make precise edits? Can you identify a single frame and remove it?
-- Can you stack media, such that when two or more items overlap a segment of time, the one in the top-most position will be the one that gets viewed / rendered?
-- Can you tag (or grab) multiple items on your timeline and move them together as a group, or adjust their audio or video properties together as a group?
-- Can you separate the audio from a media clip?
I have seen videos where the video and the audio are out of sync (sometimes the video lags behind audio by, perhaps, ½ a second (or the other way around)).
So once you separate the audio from the video, you can drag the audio section slightly to the right (or left, as the case may be), and have the clip's audio and video now be in sync.
-- Can you pixelate frames (or regions within frames). For example, to hide a face or a credit card number, etc.
    -- Can you blur ^^^ditto^^^.
-- Can you record your screen with the Shotcut program, resulting in Shotcut producing a new media file that gets added to your media bin (and optionally added to your timeline)?
    -- Can you add captions?
-- Does ShotCut render with the aid of all CPU cores?
    -- @23:30
The audio is too loud. When the bar graph is filling 90% of the display, it is either too loud or too compressed -- and compression kills dynamics.
I plan on divorcing myself from all closed-source products when I buy my next computer. So my current video editor (TechSmith's Camtasia) is not an option, and neither is Windows (I will be running Linux). Camtasia can do all of the things that I asked questions above. I want whatever I replace Camtasia with to be able to perform those same edits.
Thanks again for a great tutorial.

Coming from final cut pro,. I struggled with resolve for a while. But it really is very simply if you just avoid the fusion, color and audio page. I find I get on very well without them... Most of the time. Really resolve only becomes difficult when you need to chroma key or do advanced color grading. Don't give up on resolve. It will be worth it once you turn the corner. I can say that now but I felt exactly like you did for several months.

@@pixelpoop5024 right click to an empty area at the bottom thing, click “track options” then “add video tracker” go to your files and find that image, then you have your image on top of a video/image, for a regular image its “open file” and go to the area you put your photo (eg: downloads)

Hey Kevin one question can we add more transition effect in the video apart from fade out ?
    Please reply 🙏

    • @KevinStratvert
      @KevinStratvert  3 года назад +3

Yes! When you overlay two clips to create the fade transition, right click on the transition on your timeline and click on properties to expose all the transition effects. There are a ton, like Dissolve, Matrix Waterfall, Iris Circle, etc. You also have a bunch of settings to control the transition, like which direction, how soft, etc.

Kevin you are an awesome teacher. However, I’m looking for something simpler. I’ll never be a professional and just want to add some pizzazz to to some of my videos. I’m looking for something that can add text with ease and dress it up. There seems to be to many steps in which I want to do. Is Clipchamp the only option? I’m a novice at best. Is Mac the only option?

25:52 here is where he explains how to add text using shot cut... i'll admit, it seems like it
could've been a bit simpler, but I think once you get the hang of it, it will be really easy! hope this helps :)

Thank you so much for the information and for truly walking step by step. When watching other RUclipsrs explain it's normally very rushed and not as detailed. I took notes and drew the symbols so I can look back and follow if I get confused and not waste time editing. I really appreciate this video.
