Your videos gave me much confidence in my refreshing of a very valued customer's M21 (my First Muncie). Transmissions are not a common thing I overhaul as an independent auto mechanic. I really appreciate your videos and contributions to the industry. You are truly a master of your trade. Thank you,
This was probably one of the most comprehensive and informative videos I have seen to date. I only wish I found it before I installed the hurst shifter in my 69 Camaro. Good stuff!
Like a lot of people I do not thank those who help me the most. I received my new Hurst shifter , laid everything out just as Paul did and went to work. My transmission was already in the car so it was a little different than in the video, but not much. I even took my laptop to the garage with me. You see, I am not much of a mechanic, but I installed the shifter in one day and never had to take anything off to adjust the linkage, it went on right the first time. Now my little 64 Nova two door hardtop is even more fun to drive and I am off to bigger projects. It always helps that I have had this car since 1967, never gets old, Thanks again Paul, doubt that I would have done it without you.
Samwasthebest Thanks for the detailed feedback.
Your story is cool! You rebuilt the transmission while it was still IN THE CAR?! Wow. To think you had the car since '67 is also amazing.
awesome video! doing this on my own and at first i saw the instruction and i thought it would be impossible for me to do it but as i kept seeing the video it became easier by just staying patient and paying attention!
i will be doing my first shifter on my chevelle! :)thanks
just bought back my 70 gs that i had as a kid, with a factory muncie and hurst. after watching this video, i was able to correct a binding shifter and mysterious neutral issue in under 5 minutes. thanks very much for your tips. cheers.
Great video. Pulled my muncie/Hurst setup out of my 69 camaro to change out the clutch assembly and needed a guide to make sure the shifter was setup properly when putting everything back together. This helped a ton!
This is a great video and i thank you Paul for always sharing your wisdom with us . Makes the job a cinch.
Great video. I'm reinstalling a 1968 Camaro motor with a 4 speed muncie, and someone else took it apart. This definitely helps me to put it all back together ... Thanks man
I took your advice and the trans stays in 4th gear now even with my hand on it while cruising. I can't thank you enough. We were going to have it rebuilt or do a swap locally. You saved us a lot of money. thanks for the video and tech help.
I applaud your hard work in putting these video's up. A wealth of information.
Paul I can not thank you enough. This video showed me exactly what I was doing wrong and fighting the install for a few hours. I was at a disadvantage as I was installing the shifter laying on my back. I had several things wrong and was at a dead end until I found your video. Thank you so very much!
Glad it helped
It's been 21 years since I set a new Comp + shifter up like that. Thanks for the education and memories.
great video sir. I learned a lot. The Muncie is the only piece in my old Camaro (71) that has always been a mystery. This was very informative, and gave me what I needed to get the tail cover off to get to the speedo gear for changing.
+Maverick TV Thanks. Please share it.
im so glad to have FINALLY found a how-to on muncie shift linkage! THANK YOU!!
Thanks, please share the video.
Thanks Paul for a well done video. It gave me the knowledge to resolve my shifter problem on my 1960 Corvette with a M20.. Made all the difference in the world.. Job well Done!
Thank you for showing the stop adjustments! Other videos skip that important part, no wonder mine were never set correctly. Thank You!
Excellent Video, very helpful. I hung up my mechanic license 20 years ago and went into management (but a good mech always keeps his tools) This was easy to follow and understand, Mahalos.
Thank you. Adjusted my stops perfectly because of this info. You the man
Great video Paul - thanks for sharing your vast knowledge of setting these up! The small details are the best for newcomers such as myself. Cheers
Paul I love how meticulous you are with working on these trans. Your a good teacher on the subject
Thank you very much.
was going to have some one do the trans for me but after watching your video I am going to do it myself. thanks for that great clip, jim
Glad that someone knows about Muncie. You be hearing from me soon.
I rarely comment on a video, but I feel compelled to now. This was this most helpful how to video Ive ever watched!! I followed along and installed mine (with your bushing and spring kit) as you went. It was done at such a reasonable Pace that I only had to pause a couple times. Thank you for what you do!! And to anyone wondering about the bushing a spring kit, stop.... Just buy it! The quality and fit is night and day.
Thanks so much for taking the time to comment.
Great video, Paul!
I have an A833 and this video was extremely helpful. Thank you!
Paul, this video was spot on and very helpful on the install of my new Hurst shifter. Also, I called and talked to you yesterday about the adapter clips and you called me back to place my order for those clips. Thank you. And you also took the time to answer some tech questions for me. I recommend your videos to everybody.
Thank you for the great comment.
I have no Reverse in my 4 speed I got 1 2 3 4 ?,
Take a look under the car and see if reverse is actually moving.
Thank you for the video! My 1968 Camaro was "hanging up" when trying to shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. After watching, I had a much better understanding of how the entire mechanism worked. The 1-2 rod had a lot of play and after replacing the bushings and resynchronizing all of them to the neutral position, it shifts like never before. My only regret is not buying the steel bushings, as I needed to fix it within a certain timeframe. Thanks!
Thanks for the video Paul - I'm in the process of helping a friend put together a 1970 Z-28 Camaro, It has a 4-speed Muncie and I have to install a Hurst shifter which I never did before, But now after watching your video I'm a lot more confident, Thanks Again.
+Scott Escobar Thanks, glad the video helped.
A complete and detailed disassembly and rebuild of the Vintage Hurst Competition Plus Shifter would be appreciated. Nice video and great info. Thank you !
You just answered all my questions. A huge thank you for that. Now, hopefully Hurst will have that collar for the upper mounting bolt, which I need for my shifter!
Thanks again, awesome video!
Thanks for watching
On my transmission ( 4 speed toploader ) I used a 16 penny nail to stick in there. Worked great
Awesome video just got a Muncie transmissions for my Nova I appreciate the knowledge you share gives me confidence to work on my own. Thanks.
I needed that.My Hurst was already on my muncie when i bought it. it needs some adjustment and now i know how to do it. Thanks.

I have watched this video at least 25 times, very detailed, very helpful, will put this information to use next Monday when my new Hurst shifter arrives. I did not know that 5 Speed sold shifters and installation kits, for less than the Hurst website. Please check this guys store out.
Your videos are awesome.
Thanks for the education.
5speed.com is great, Paul is top shelf! I have purchased (2) Muncie 4-speeds from him. Its the best you can buy!!

You're such an awesome teacher! Thank you for this video! I was able to troubleshoot my Hurst Super Shifter on my '69 Chevelle
Glad it helped!
Well done video. Ordered parts from you. Thanks!
Paul, I know this video is a little old, but I wanted to let you know I am finishing up on my 67 rs/ss 396 Camaro ground-up restore. The car has a muncie with the hurst shifter. The gears/shifter didn't shift well and I was a little worried because I have never adjusted a shifter before. I followed your video step by step and now my muncie shifts like a dream. Just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make this video! John-Charlotte, NC
Thank you
Great video. You just saved me a big headache with my reverse. Rod on shifter was on the wrong side.
Thanks
Larry Mutz

Thank you, I will have a new shifter video coming next week so please subscribe to my channel to keep informed
Thanks for the great instructive video. This is very well done.
Thank you!
WOW!
Just WOW!
What a piece of information that is! Explained to me like I'm a six year old, just the way I need it to be. This is a clinic on how to explain complex mechanisms in digestible pieces so that dummies like me can understand and use the information. That was more enjoyable to watch than any silly Marvel movie.
My goodness, Paul, you are a great man!
Thank you so much, I think I can figure out what is keeping my muncie from shifting into neutral and 1 through 4. Right now all she has is reverse. At least I have a starting place now and an idea what I'm looking at.
Best Video on youtube!
Wow just wow!!! Don't describe yourself as a dummy. After all, you are smart enough to watch my videos.. thank you.
Thank you very much for your knowledge!
Thanks!
Excellent video, well demonstrated. Thank you
Your welcome

Excellent , Informative , might have a saved me lots of Dollars
That's a very generous offer and while I sure appreciate it, I don't have a good subject for the video at the moment. Perhaps one of the other requesters below will be able to provide a complete one. Thank you though.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge! This is a very helpful video for those of us who have never done this before.
Glad I could help.
GearBoxVideo hi
GearBoxVideo hi there I’m in Australia but I would like to buy some of the harden bushes and three of them other washer that clip into the offset flat plates how can I contact?
Email: support@5speeds.com
thank you for sharing
Paul , I just got your new book on Muncie transmissions. Has a great amount of info on these trans. Would highly recommend it to anyone working on one. I'll be in touch . Need to order some parts from you. Thanks
kick ass video. You can't get any better than this.
Thank you, and thanks for sharing it.
I’m 59 years old and I’ve never known how manual transmissions work. Thanks a million!
Any time!
Isn't it awesome?! I'm 62 and I feel like I can fix anything with such great tutelage Paul provides.
@VideoMyLifeLLC thank you
WoW, Thank You So much for posting this video! You saved me Hundreds
of dollars, Watching your video gave me the confidence to look for the Problem
that was ONLY a Backed out bolt that was causing me to completely lose Reverse in my Muncie. I was even able to fix it by going through the top of the shift tunnel.
One trans place i called said it would be $1400-2000 to fix it. LOL
Thanks.
Awesome video!!!! Thank you!!
Thx so much I installed my hurst on to my Muncie easily
Great video! I bought a 57 chevy and it had a 350 chevy engine and Super T10 that needed a new bushing kit as the stick was super sloppy!
Great videos
I'm an authorized Autogear reseller. So I build my own M22 type transmissions with their components and have had some design input into them as well. I DO NOT like the gear vendors system. The problem is I do not think the extension housing adapter has good alignment with the transmission and overdrive unit. Its very long and makes for a very short driveshaft and clearance issues. Your money is better spent on a Tremec TKO 600 5 speed.
Paul is the best
Excellent video, thanks for alot of great information 👍
Thanks for watching
Awesome instructional video.
Glad you liked it
nice, I'm doing 3 camaros next week and this will be of great assistance...
You can always email me for other tech questions...
Good Video I broke off a stud shifter on my muncie. I ground the excess of and drilled and tapped the part to accept a bolt. Worked fine. I may need those adapters you have. Always wondered why there was some slop in the hurst shift plates.
Great Job...
Best channel ever
I wish! Thank you
Awesome video, thanks. I'm swapping a Saginaw 3 speed for an M-20 in old C10, I haven't messed around with setting up shifters in years, your video was a great refresher, plus it's even better to learn a few tricks of the trade from guys who do this stuff everyday! I'm intrigued by the steel bushings you used, and how'd they feel in a daily driver or if they'd be overkill. Thanks again.
I sell a lot of steel bushing kits. I really have not had any complaints. The problem with the plastic bushings is that they are deteriorating fairly quickly and as a result causing poor shift feel.
Awesome video!!!!
Thank you
How can someone not like this shit. You cant get any better directions and knowledge on Transmissions
Thank you for liking it. Some people complain about sound issues and stupid stuff. Reality is that likes and dislikes are so off relative to the amount of views, so its hard to judge.
Outstanding video. I don’t say that much. Thank you.
Thanks for watching
awesome vid by the way ..thank you
Thank You!
Thanks, Paul, for a very thorough setup and adjustment process.
I swapped an LS6 in my '72 Zee around 79 and replaced the old shifter with a comp plus (it had a steel alignment rod) it was a daily driver for me, many miles! I had a few occasions where the spring rod retainers at the shift fork lever would "disappear" and leave me in 3rd or 4th gear. After walking the shoulder, I would find a nail, and once another spring retainer, then I would crawl underneath and get the muncie back shifting. So I decided to add ground washers and cotter pins, and I never had this problem again, they seemed to always disappear on a busy highway in the summer and I hated for my car and I to be seen "broke down" for something this simple, have you heard of any problems with retaining shift rods this way?
I'll be on Super661 when I start disassembling...
Thanks for watching! Please share it.
Glad I found your page.
How about rebuilding a vintage competition plus shifter unit?
FYI the extra bracket @ 18:11 is for a switch that operates the reverse lights. great vid by the way watched it twice
Thanks for pointing that out. The bracket is for the Hurst optional switch. I never understood why they include it. It should be included with the switch not the shifter. Thanks so much for watching my vids.
Great this really helps i have a 4 speed Saginaw is set up semi simalar
