When watching RUclips videos, it quickly becomes apparent who REALLY knows what they are doing. You are one of them. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you
@@GearBoxVideo Yes Paul Knows what he is doing.. but he also is very articulate and can explain how to rebuild Transmissions..
I rebuild my own 3 speed FWD Transfer cases they weight #1,050 pounds gears ect are priceless you can't buy them anymore..
I made a stand to rebuild them on and wrote a whole note book how to rebuild one.
They use Industrial ball bearings which are very overpriced now days ..
They have Drive and Driven gear clusters and back in the day you could change all the gears to change the ratios just like a quick change rear end..in a stock car..
My son and I prefer Manuel trans. Muncie. And we have 3 Muncie 4 speed 1 Saginaw 4 speed and 3 or 4 Saginaw 3 speed. I have the knowledge to rebuild them I have pick up older shifters here and there. Thanks to you and your videos has help me to work a lot more easy on them. Keep up with your videos I will learn more from them. Thanks again. Eddie Rodriguez
i may never have a use for this, but holy cow that was fascinating.
Thank you for making this video. Very easy to follow, and you've taken the fear out of me to try it myself. Cheers
I downloaded the file and had the assembly fixture printed. I purchased the delux rebuild kit along with the upgraded bushing and clip set. The rebuild went super smooth using the fixture and my shifter works night and day better. Paul's parts and customer service are top notch! I highly recommend having the fixture made to do this job with minimal frustration.
Thank you..im glad it worked out.
I wish I would have had your tool back in 1964 thru 1976 when I was Drag Racing and rebuilding shifters for me and for my friends and for others. The tool would have saved me a lot of time and made my life easier. All the good information and explanation you give along with the video pictures is a great teaching tool ! You do a really great job of explaining the process and why you are doing those things. Thats why I've been watching your videos for a long time, have seen them all. Thank you Paul and may God bless you and your family !!!
Thanks for watching.
Fantastic DIY video, thanks Paul.
Awesome job Paul thanks for sharing!
Thank you for taking the time to put these videos together. I have watched several and have learned a lot from them. I will be purchasing some parts from you soon!
Great skills and information Paul. Thanks for sharing
Again... Awesome stuff ! More please !
Thanks for a very informative video. You have taken the mystery out of disassembling a Hurst shifter . And the unknown ,but critical points of wear & the easy way of reassembly.
Thanks again.
Like the Palmgren vise... and great video as allways!
Another great video with great content! You make it look so easy! Thank you for the great information.
Thank you sir for another great and amazing video! Was a pleasure shaking your hand at this year's SEMA!
Thanks, the pleasure was mine as well.
Great job on the video and demonstration of the shifter rebuild. I took an old shifter apart and put it back together without using a tool as you have shown and it was an absolute dog to do. You did a great job on the fixture design. I also have the shifter going into a 4 speed toploader. I'm not a fan of the 1 piece shifter handle, thanks for the heads up on converting it to a removable handle.
Your videos are fantastic! Nice work!
Thank you very much!
Thanks Paul. Terrific video. I rebuilt my shifter when the gearbox was out but didn't use a rebuild kit...just cleaned, greased and reassembled. Will get a rebuild kit next time the trans is out so I can do it properly.
You are truly a craftsman . Love your vids . Keep them coming , please .
Thanks
Thank you. Invaluable info!
Awesome video! Just used for a rebuild. Much appreciated!
Amazing video. It's good to know that Hurst shifters are rebuildable and configurable to fit different applications. Keep up the good work.
Thanks
Doing this now.Ty so much for vid once again.
Awesome vid, very clear on how these go back together
Thanks!
I was able to put it back together with bar clamp and 2 flat head screw drivers my first time doing any of this first mopar but thank you for doing this I didn't know how it went back together til this video thank you sir
This is awesome! Now I know I can get any Hurst comp shifter and rebuild it the way I want to - sweet!
It's a pretty modular system once you know the basics
Thanx man that shifter is the exact one on my 68 torino GT 390 4 spd and now im going to get myself a it and rebuild it. I do all the work myself engines, trans install, tuning etc.
That's the way to go!
Had one of these on top of Muncy Rock Crusher in a 65 Nova with a built 327, and it was the best shifting car I've ever....
I love your videos. Lots of great info. Love how you explain everything and the upgrades you do/would do on everything. Wish I had the money I would send you a trans from a 1996 ford Ranger just to get a video from it. Want to rebuild one myself but don't have any guidelines to go off of. And the only videos I have found on them are poorly done. Especially compared to the way you do yours. Keep them coming.
Well maybe you should send it then?
Thanks for your videos Paul. I wish i had found you earlier. the last time I installed a Hurst Kit took me about 3 Day to make it work properly.
More videos coming!
This and the last video convinced me to just rebuild mine.
Very very very good info, thank you so much for teaching us these great services and showing me how to save my old linkage
I have all the parts of you need them.
GearBoxVideo I have already been pricing the stuff out and gonna buy all my good from you, do you sell the billet shift selector forks? I’m re building a 65 M20
Great video gave me confidence to do this job! I'd suggest that avoid reversing the shims should be mentioned however so they clear the rear plate. Thanks.
Great content. Thank you.
Thank you for getting
Wow! Looking at those stop bolts. .. I now think I know why that foxcraft 3-speed floor shifter I had on my 1949 Monarch, back in 1964, used to eat the synchronizer rings. . . (Monarch was the Canadian version of the Mercury).
Thanks for the files.
Have fun. Use the hash tag if you make it.
Finished rebuilding mine today, its SOOOOO much better now
I didn't use a fixture to put the springs back in the carrier, managed to do that by hand. If I did this bbn on a regular basis though I'd definitely get/make a fixture to compress the springs.
First time watching I really enjoyed this
Awesome awesome video. Thank you Sir.
Nice!! Great instructional video, I'm sure it will prevent a ton of head scratching.... :-)
Thanks a lot the video was very helpful, I have one to do soon
Good stuff Paul I also have your muncie book I have an M 22 in my 1965 GTO real informative
Thank you
great video !!!!
Ironic I was just watching your other comp video when I was reassembling my M20. Did my first rebuild with your book
Thanks it shifts perfect
Thanks for the feedback!
Your videos ROCK! You have helped me more times than I can say. Silly note on my part, the anti-rattle (wave) plate is wrong side up in that reassemble video per Hurst guide 3327303 F (3) the upper hole goes to the right.
Watch my video short on the wave plate
Very informative Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I just watched your videos on the Toyota W58 rebuild, amazing videos. Please please make one on a late model Toyota R154 rebuild !!
Please send me a transmission
Awesome brother 💪🇦🇺
Great Job Paul, excellent, very good information, I am working on 69 Camaroe shifter
I have all the parts if you need anything
GearBoxVideo I will call you, thanks
wooow great tool ... thank you.
You are welcome!
Nice.
I think this video was great. I have subscriber as well😀
Great videos Paul....just wondering if you have any information on the correct hurst levers to be able to have the reverse lockout/back up light linkage adapted and working for the 69-72 chevelles? I am going to be removing an old worn out muncie shifter and install the hurst shifter, but want to retain the original style linkages to keep everything working like it should. I believe there has to be a specifis amount of movement to make this work properly?? Any help or feedback is greatly appreciated. 1972 Chevelle, M20 Muncie, Console shift.
Thank you for the excellent work! Have you ever planned to make a video about rebuilding a Toploader? I have two of those, and I would like to rebuild one of them. Your guidance in a project like that would be fantastic! Thanks again.
Send it to me! I have ZERO toploader cores here
@@GearBoxVideo Thanks for the offer! The problem is that I live in a different country than yours, and probably it would be troubles$$some sending back and forth (through the customs) the relatively heavy package and issues like that. I was trying to bring this idea of a Toploader rebuild, because I saw in your videos, that particular subject was missing and I thought, maybe, combining your great skills with such a popular transmission would make a great video.
You should do a comprehensive video on the differences between the M20 M21 and M22. This is a question I get all the time but you are more qualified than I am to answer it.
It's in some of my videos but I guess because of attention spans and search inquires few people take the time to read descriptions of the video posted. Good idea.
@@GearBoxVideo I searched for it before I posted but couldn't find it.
Simple yet Unique fixture..........you make things easy.........(where do you find the Time)
Work work work!
Great video, well done ,car guys all can relate, looking forward to the 66 gto shifter rebuild, also do you have a website and shop to send out Munich’s for rebuild or upgrade?
The GTO shifter video is up. Currently I am rebuilding shifters but not taking in transmission rebuild work
I bought a new competition plus shifter. installed it on a new m22 from Midwest Muncie's. The shifter never worked right. sometimes it wouldn't pull out of first gear, I would have to get under car and manually move 1 ,2 Arm to neutral. i tried ever thing , readjusted arms steel shift arm bushings, oiled linkage, mover travel stop out of the way nothing would work. Called hurst tech line and was given the run around calling all the phone numbers they gave me. My friends had a older competiton plus in his car and his shifter seemed to have less slop in the neutral position than my new one . So I forked out a another 450$ on another one and it worked fine. so my question is would you take my first shifter and see why it never worked for me?
I have an idea for you - how about tearing down and inspecting mechanical part of some dual clutch transmission. Since you seem to be working with longitudinal transmissions, how about taking a look at Audi's DL501. Everyone has torn down the hydraulic part, but nobody ever tore down the mechanical part and assessed it in depth as well as identified what would likely to wear and can and cannot be replaced.
P.S. have a dl501 trans with rusted bearings in the mechanical part, if I can't work out the return to the seller, we can think of getting it to you
Great idea. Send one to me.
I like your videos as always, and am a fan. I have a Long shifter on my Richmond 4+1 trans, that I bought both new from Summit racing, in a 69 Camaro. This trans is getting harder to shift, or stiff to shift, and wants to get stuck in 3rd gear or doesn't smoothly shift out to 4th. I've had this combo for about 20 years. I use the B&M quick shift trans lub in this trans and always have. My question is. Could this be a shifter wearing out, or could this be a symptom of a wearing transmission? Ps. I have seen your 4+1 video on the Richmond trans and think that could be some of my issues. thank you.
Usually in the transmission. The Long Shifter would not cause that issue. It is prone to getting dirt in it, so you may want to give it a good cleaning.
I’m wondering what if anything you would recommend as a lubricant that I can spray or apply into the linkage housing to lube it while it’s installed in the car? My linkage seems to be a bit stiff when driving. Was hoping some lube might help. I. ertainly don’t want anything that will attract dirt and cause more wear. Enjoy your channel. Thanks.
Blaster makes a marine lube and coating..Any spray on lube for marine use is best
Can you make a video on the Getrag MT82 transmission for the 11+ Ford Mustangs? I'm currently rebuilding one and would love to hear what you have to say about those transmissions. Thanks for these awesome videos!
I don't have any to build here. Send me one
@@GearBoxVideo the one I have is already disassembled. They can be had fairly cheap when broken. I picked this one up for $250
At about 25:45, you mentioned that the bridge shouldn't be tightened so much that they bend. My shifter's bridge was on way too tight, so it was severely bent. My shifter was having a lot of trouble finding gears, and wonder if this may have been part of the reason?
Could be
Hello... I have a 2010 infiniti g37s manual... can you use synchromesh fluid in the transmission for this car?
Please use the recommended oil in your cars maintenance book
I got a 65 mustang with a 4 speed it has a hurst shifter on it but it has a removable handle does that mean it's the wrong shifter.
Hard to tell since I can't see it. Email support@5speeds.com to continue
Can you do a video on rebuilding a T86 with Borg Warner Overdrive? I have one you can rebuild for the video
😃
Send it in
I needed a bolt on GM receiver like the one that you used in this video. I eventually found one on an eBay "shifter for parts" and it cost me $90 to my door. Can I get parts like that from you? I could use an end plate threaded for stops too.
I stock all the individual parts for most shifters
Impressed as always.Does your printing service have your file in their library and if so can an individual just order one from them direct? Would save a couple of steps and insure that program/file is not corrupted as it bounces around the internet. I think you should get something for you intellectual property. Perhaps you can work a deal where the buyer pays you and you make the order with drop shipping. I don't think a 20% design surcharge is unreasonable.
The idea is for everyone to share and improve on the design. The files are on Grabcad. Think of it as open source. Link is in the description. If the file is corrupt you would not get an initial render. You can use any printing service you like. Some people may have a student in school that has access to free printing.
What do you think about gearbox oil additives? Which brand is good? I'm from India.
I never used additives in any transmission. There is no need if you use a good quality oil
UPS is Christmas every day . I have MIG welders Plasma arc and Drill Press .. but no MIll to get all those little groves..
how much did the 3 D printed part cost you ?
They can vary anywhere from $50 to $100 depending on materials chosen and fill rates. Some can be done cheaper
@@GearBoxVideo Sounds Reasonable .. You would need your own Printer .. if you want to print some guns however..
Lost spring Trick tie a stout string to the spring and ankor it to something done .😁
How different is a ITM shifter ? It appears to me that a ITM shifter like in my 78 Camaro is very similar in design. Is there rebuild kits for an ITM shifter ? By the way I really appreciate what you do ! TY
Good question. I need to get an ITM shifter and do a video
@@GearBoxVideo Please do
So when suppose get the M22Z gear sets back in or as far as that goes,, Your sold out of a lot of things! Any Christmas specials going on or how bout a raffle? ;-)
They are Italian gears and should be in stock shortly. I cannot control how fast international shipments happen. I really don't do raffles or specials. Nobody sponsors me, nobody gives me anything for free to give away.
Do you make a bunch of these or are they made to order..? Interesting stuff...
Depends. With shifters, most are custom but I do sell the Hurst full line and parts. The tool I only have for myself and a few backups
Hi Paul. Nice video. Where can i purchase the repair kits from? Do you sell and ship to DK? Ford toploader 4 speed HEH-CL Hurst Competetion plus . Brgds Michael
Kits can be purchased from my website. I think we will have kits in stock Mid sept
Hi paul i have a 56 chevy corvette with a muncie m20 with a hurst competition plus shifter just started not being able to get out of reverse only way is to smack the shifter kinda hard to the passenger side to go out of reverse any ideas thank you..
Try aligning it and sometimes just spray some wd 40 into the shifter, if it appears dirty
@@GearBoxVideo ok thank you
Hi Paul, are you still selling the rebuild kit? I noticed there sold out.
Use the notify me button . Will be back in stock soon
the reverse plunger if it is bad it wont go in reverse right ? and do you sell that tool on your website ?
The plunger rarely goes bad, but the spring does. Please read the video description. Links for the tool files are in most of my shifter rebuild videos. I do not sell the tool
@@GearBoxVideo ok thankx
How can you shorten the throw on the Comp Plus shifter ???????????
A comp plus shifter install kit is shorter throw than a standard shifter. Any shortening of the arm spacing will increase shift effort
Does the printed tool not work for an oem shifter or will it work? Im rebuilding an oem and the description in the CAD site says non oem. Don’t want to waste the time and money if it won’t work. Thanks.
The idea of the FREE file is that people modify the file and share information so we all learn from one another. What you can do is simply grind away some material to make the OEM carrier fit.
@@GearBoxVideo Awesome, very much appreciated. I’m looking forward to trying it. And thank you for making the file available along with your videos.
What is the price to rebuilt mustang toploader shifter
depends on the condition. Most OEM Hurst rebuilds start at $250
para repuestos donde los puedo adquirir
No tego repustos para esto projecto. Lo siento
Im still on the fence about doing mine only bc a new shifter is $500 dollars now
Depends. Sometimes I have deals on new shifters. Contact me. All my information is in the about me section of this channel or in the video description
And grade and I can just pick up some new ones.
We sell them. Look at the video description
I figured but I need to get the car going by tomorrow evening.
Going through an old comp plus now, 67 gto. 1-2 3-4 ok but can't get it into reverse
Make sure you have space in the backside of the shifter body to allow the reverse plunger to exist past it
@@GearBoxVideo thanks! Took it apart per your video. The reverse lockout detent was seized up knocked it loose cleaned up now to hopefully get back together. I layed it all out like you have.
How much is you rebuild kit OEM HURST SHIFTER
See www.shifterfix.com
Hey brother, Eric coronado here. I got my shifter back, but you won’t believe it. I miss placed my bracket mounting bolts. You would t happen to be able to send me the sizes on the bolts would you???
Contact me on the info on your invoice with your invoice number. RUclips is not the place for that
"But I think with the two shifter videos, you should get a real good HANDLE on how to rebuild these shifters" .... no pun intended....
Wait to the third one comes out...
Please tell me about those different receivers that can move the stick placement to the center line of the transmission...
There are 4 different receivers with different offsets. Best to contact me via phone after 7pm eastern time. All contact info is in videos
Paul,
I think it best if your creation would have the correct tap and clearance sized holes from the start. Why put some random size holes in when you could put the size holes in that is needed?
First they are not random size holes. You obviously are not paying attention to the video. The holes in the design have to do with the spring sizes. Also as mentioned it is a 3D printed part and in my experience you do not want to try and 3D print threads since your can print with a variety of materials. Problem with comments such as yours is that it is evident that you either never watched the full video, or perhaps I have failed explaining why things were designed in such a fashion. The concept was for people to share knowledge. The files are FREE on grabcad.com. The idea is for people to share knowledge and work together to improve the design. So since you seem to know about 3D design make a part and share the link here on Grabcad.
" ... and stay tuned for Part Two in a few days."
Did that ever happen? (I'm not finding it in your videos ... )
A little late but happening 2nd week in Jan 2020
